💪💯I absolutely agree. I love 357 sig. I just picked up another, so we will have a bunch of tests coming in all barrel lengths. Thanks as always my friend, I appreciate ya!!
Thanks to Underwood the 357 Sig is now the most powerful SD caliber on the market at 1500+ fps for a 125gr bullet. More velocity than even Underwood's own 125gr Magnum round!
@@justusbryant7366not anymore all modern 10mm is watered down and if you look at channels like tools&target you will see alot of 40s&w has beaten 10mm in FPS even when compared to same grain same ammo maker
@@kennethferguson4283 there is 125 grain 40s&w that is doing 1321 FPS out of a 4" barrel and 1502 in a 5" barrel there is even a crazy company nov-x that made a 88 grain 40s&w plus P pushing 1,700+ or like a company called SinterFire that also made a 40s&w 125 grain with 1,350fps in 3.5" barrel and 1,578fps in 5" barrel
Very hard for any conventional round to compete with a bottleneck high pressure round...the 357sig ONCE again dumping more kinetic energy into a target more than the 40sw...great tests AZ!!!! 👍
Great video to prove the "bigger is always better" crowd wrong. Bigger rounds may provide larger direct tissue-crushing holes, but as you can clearly see in this video .... the 357 Sig round had a notably smaller expansion diameter for direct tissue-crushing... yet the cavitation was notably greater.🔥
I already knew that the .40 S&W was a hard hitter with a gruesome wound cavity, but that .357 Sig is scary impressive. Faster, greater wound cavity and deeper penetration. If it weren't for the cost/availability issues with the .357 Sig {in some cases, twice the price} I would carry it as my edc, but you have to be able to afford to practice with the handgun you carry. For now, I will stick with my Glock 23.
.357 sig is my EDC go to, but that .40 looked very good. That 155 really had beautiful expansion, as HST usually do. .357 sig is just amazing. Double Tap has a solid copper hollow point in .357 sig that's 115gr. rated at 1500 fps. Would love to see that one put through your testing protocol. As always thanks for the test, and have a wonderful day.
Yeah the latest Gen copper JHP at 1500 f/second would be the best. I bet after that nobody will look at ballistic gel studies on UA-cam. Even a hot 40 cal 125 grains 1350 f/second out of a 4 inch compact pistol would be interesting. Or a cheap second hand G22 for 200 bucks with suppressor tread barell (5 inch).
@@DonDeMarcoKarlsruheI have a glock 35 in .40 with a .357 sig conversion barrel 5.3 inch. The rounds out of this thing are smoken fast. Thanks for the response.

I have both. I actually bought a Glock 33 in 2012 and Glock 31 in 2016. Couple years ago, I bought .40 S&W barrels for both. Ammo is easier to find and easier on the wallet.
2 very impressive rounds indeed. I own a Glock 22 and I do really like the .40 S&W. Of course I would love to get a handgun chambered in .357 Sig but the price and availability of the ammo is what is stopping me right now. I hope that .357 Sig would start gaining popularity because it seems to be a very capable round. Maybe it will end up like 10mm and gain a following and make a big comeback.
They make conversion barrels for the G22 in .357 Sig. I have one. The ammo is harder to find in my area, though, so I generally keep the .40 cal barrel in it.
Prison CO supervisor 22 yrs tdcj. Every offender that survived gunshot from rival gangs to police. Said the 45 caliber was the worst damage of all and felt the most. Most had shattered bones and muscle damage not repairable. When shot by a 45 they were done. 9mm they had to shoot several times to bring them down on most occasions.
Another great, practical comparison video between two top carry rounds! Great to see the different barrels, especially the short barrel tests! 😀 We get to see the results and yet it doesn't cost a penny for such valuable resources of information! It takes alot of time , work , and effort to do what your doing, and I very much appreciate it!
Thank you buddy!! Always appreciate ya!! Had to take a lil break, weather's been bad lately, but I'll have some new tests/content by the end of the week😁. Thank you again!!
357 Sig is harder to find, it's more expensive, and a 9mm projectile in a 40 case will give you those results, especially out of subcompact guns. But the USSS armorers describe it as a gun eater. P229 with more than 10k rounds weren't warrantied by Sig.
The .357Sig uses 9mm bullets which are designed to expand at lower velocities out of a 9x19NATO so when you run it out at a couple hundred FPS fasted you are going to get somewhat larger expansion from the .357. Likewise the .40 is losing its popularity and the R&D is not going into it so you won't get the newest cutting edge bullet designs in .40 while the newest 9mm bullets can be put into the .357Sig so it will improve as time goes on but the .40 will trail behind to some extent
Wrong on both counts. The 357 Sig doesn't use bullets made for 9x19, you just made that up. They are the same caliber, but not the same construction (in order to avoid the problem that you mentioned). On the count of .40 S&W losing popularity, this is true, but not nearly to the same degree as 357 Sig. Stores just aren't moving enough 357 Sig ammo. As a result, they don't stock it, and if they do, it's more expensive than .40 S&W which only requires a barrel change.
Nice test lukewarm SiG. How about doing a 357S 125gr JHP vs 9mm +P+ 90gr XD in G33 length barrels. I bet it’s dead even. I’m saying the XD boosts the terminal performance of the 9 equal to the original SIG design parameters. Having said that a full size frame (over 4”) loaded with 357S/XD produces next level 10mm/JHP tissue disruption.
I picked up a mid 90s sig p229 in 40 because in a firm believer in the 40. Ive been reading a fair bit that you can switch to the 357sig round with a barrel swap. Going to send the pistol in to sig to give it a good look over and replace anything needs replaced and possibly refinish the pistol to make it look new. Really tempted on being able to switch so easily
Simple to say all the 9 mm ballistic testing technology has trickled to most all the rounds. the 40 penetrates perfectly slightly better than the sig., larger diameter too. Advantage 40.
Sure, but it's odd to think a block of gelatin with the equivalent of 4 denim jackets draped over it has become accepted as a human analogue. 12 gauge birdshot point blank that penetrates 10 inches? Inadequate for self defense! .22lr that penetrates 12 inches? Ideally suited for self defense...
