*CORRECTION* At the end of yesterdays video I missed telling you all a step in baking the sourdough bread! It should have stated bake at 500 for 25 minutes in a preheated cast iron pan with the lid on. **Then very carefully remove the lid of the pan with oven mitts and lower oven temperature to 450 and bake uncovered for another 20-25 min. I forgot to mention to remove the lid before the second bake at the lower temperature. Thanks!

Here in Eastern Ontario it is still half winter-ish and very very early spring. We live rurally, and making maple syrup is March's most important job. We make enough for our family, including our adult children and their families for the year, saving everyone alot of $$.

Very productive day. I love seeing Miss Dixie. In between her guard dog duties (guarding her mama), she finds time for a little snooze here and there. Cutie pie! For low cost fun, you can't beat walking, going to the library, cleaning up the yard and keeping an eye out for spring flowers, visiting with neighbors and friends, vacuuming your car and cleaning the windows, clearing out the fridge to make a dinner with all the leftover ingredients, and learning new things on UA-cam. Happy spring!

Sunday I went looking for volunteer tomato plants in my garden area and found two! Then yesterday morning I found two more beside the sidewalk before leaving my yard that I'll move so they don't get stepped on by the dogs. These evergreen tomatoes grow crazy and give me an abundance of tomatoes tinier than a grape tomato. I also have what I think is called longevity spinach that's very hardy and spreads. It started with just a couple of cuttings I got at the farmers market last year that I didn't cook in time so I stuck them in the ground at the recommendation of the lady I bought them from.

What a wonderfully warm share of your day! I like that you don't rush but focus instead on each activity with a Zen like devotion to the process. Each spring I take a warm afternoon to get out the stored boxes of my summer clothing and I try to go through them with "new eyes". This spring it is a particularly joyous activity as I have been doing intermittent fasting and have lost 30 lbs. So nothing should be too pinchy in the middle! I sort items to make new combinations, wash up and repair everything. And then box up those items I no longer want or need to go to our charity thrift shop. After that, I may decide I need a few new things. Right now it looks like it is just a pair of new sneakers as I haven't bought any shoes for 4 years.

Starting my day with daily devotions is a must. I also spend an hour a week in silent meditation at my church. If for some reason I miss that, my week seems incomplete. Taking walks and just enjoying the sunshine and warmer weather is usually part of my day. I plan on working in the yard and doing a general outside cleanup up as the weather permits. This afternoon I actually took a nap, which is not something that happens on a regular basis!!

My favorite springtime, low-cost or no cost activities, include going on plenty of walks during the day, and into the evening, listening to the birds, watching new buds sprout from the ground, and on the trees, and I like to hunt for birds Ness by staring up into the trees, and seeing how many big ones and little ones that I can spot. Call me simple, but I really do just enjoy being in nature and watching Nature and the animals do their thing. Low-cost things that I like to do around the house in springtime include sprucing up my mini patio garden of herbs, I’m going to buy one native butterfly plant to attract butterflies, making sure there’s plenty of birdseed out so I can bird Watch from my back patio, and tending to my indoor plants. again it’s the simple pleasures for me

I love washing windows inside and out on my house in the spring. They tilt in which is a huge help. Also love when we can put all the houseplants back outside. I enjoy seeing the spring flowers coming up every springtime. Snowdrops from my late Mam's garden, lots of hellebores in different colours, then the crocuses, daffodils, and tulips. Paul showed us the chicks and hens. My dad used to grow them in turned out car tyres filled with grit and compost. My daughter now calls them 'tyre plants'! They're also known as houseleeks because they were used to repair holes in roofs in olden times. I now have some of my Dad's in shallow planters. 😊 My daughter said last week that all my plants remind me of someone, and she wants to make her garden the same! 😊
I invent ways of using up leftover food, too, as I don't like throwing money away.
Thanks for sharing your day. Blessings to you too. ❤

Your egg recipe reminded me of a recipe we got from a family friend years ago (close to 45 years ago). He called it "scrambled French toast". He mixed up his eggs, added a bit of milk, a dash of cinnamon and sometimes nutmeg then added cubed up bread. Then into a buttered frying pan! French toast but a little less messy work! We would drizzle with syrup until one time Mom figured out that adding the syrup to the egg mixture worked well too! Bon Appétit!

Hi Emmie, Paul and gorgeous Dixie. It was lovely to see how you spend your day. I never thought of using up bread in the way you did for breakfast but I will be giving it a go. Emmie your sourdough bread looked lovely and I bet it smelt gorgeous. Those crocuses were so pretty, my late mother used to love them and she was such a great gardener. Thank you both for sharing your day, I personally really enjoyed watching. Due to my mobility issues and chronic pain I can't walk too far without resting but I do like to take my dog Buddy with me for a stroll to the local park and my younger son goes with us, just in case I fall. We take a flask of hot tea and packed lunch boxes with a blanket and sit and watch the ducks on the pond. I love seeing all the spring blossom and the lovely flowers. Jack my son will take Buddy for a run and I will sit and read a magazine or book. When we get home Jack will make me rest and he'll make a cup of tea and bring up to me and then he'll wash up the lunch boxes and flask. Jack is my full time carer and is just 23. We get on really well along with my eldest son Matthew who lives about 10 minutes away. I'm so lucky to have two wonderful sons and Buddy my dog. We love the birds, year round. Spring time is very busy at the feeders and they are singing and chatting to attract their mates. I love sitting by the window or on the deck, listening and watching. Early morning is the best. It is quiet then the sun starts rising and gradually the birds wake up and sing their songs.
Warmer weather brings walks. I will walk the acreage, park away from my appts and errands and sttoll. Even though I live rural the roads are narrow, windy and can be busy, so I avoid the roads.

I am a little bit confused over what you can buy in the US...I have seen channels comparing food that you also can buy in Europe..but in the US it is stuffed with all sorts of poisonous chemicals. And now I saw your not bleached flour..what on earth...is there really bleached flour you can buy?? In Sweden we want more of the whole wheat, so the flour will also be more brownish...
Today I was out in the garden, also raking leaves, my favorite Springtime activity!!! 🤗-gardening,I then put the leaves over the beds, making new dirt...my idea of gardening is a frugal garden, using old materials to almost no cost. I really enjoy your channel..thanks for all tips and tricks...greetings from Sweden🇸🇪

Yes, bleached flour is very much available here in the US. Never buy it though.

Thanks for the great videos y'all do. Being frugal helps my home. I went over our budget to find ways to save and was able to save $130 a month . Me , my hubby and daughter combined our cell phone service into a family plan and saved $30 a month. Since we have a car that's not safe to drive right now but we still have to have insurance and tags (as per land lease agreement) we dropped full coverage and kept liability. $100 savings per month. I was so happy to be able to save that much per month.🎉.

I always look forward to spring because I am back up in Minnesota from being down south for the winter. My mother in law and I go to a wonderful little nursery and buy plants and plan our gardens. It's so refreshing and wonderful to see all the beautiful colors and new plants. It's kinda weird but I am harvesting down here in Florida as we are shutting down our little house down here and getting ready to go back.

We’ve had some warmer temps this last week and I’ve spent time on our backyard swing watching and listening to the birds, looking for the various bulbs popping up in the garden and the other day sowed snap pea, radish and kale seeds in our raised beds. I also switch out some of our blankets and pillows for spring/summer fabrics and give the windows a good cleaning.

Since we live close to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, we will go to the Park and find hikes that have wildflowers. We have a book from the National Park that tells us what trails to take, and will identify many of the flowers that we will find. It's a nice way to spend the day outdoors, enjoying God's beautiful mountains.

I have bad allergies, so spring is a mostly inside time for me. But I still love flowers, so I enjoy sitting on the couch with a cat in my lap, listening to the rain or basking in the sunshine and looking at the blooming daffodils and all of the plants turning green in my yard.

Spring is so wonderful. I love walking around my property to see all the bulbs blooming and tilling the garden up. It’s exciting thinking of what I can grow this year. This will be my first time growing beets. I love beets and could eat them every single day❤ So hopefully 😬it goes well.

We’re morning people so as the sunrise gets earlier and earlier our spring mornings start earlier as well. After some quiet time we walk our dog a good two or three miles then explore our yard to see what life has burst forth. This is an early spring in the northeast and so far I’ve discovered chives, rhubarb and garlic coming up - yea!
During spring I focus on the hope and beauty of the Easter story. I love the visual demonstration our gardens and all of the natural world give us of resurrection. I’m grateful to live in this beautiful country on this beautiful planet. We are so blessed 😇

Happy almost spring, we're jealous our gardens are still under 2 feet of snow! You touched on something that would be of interest to us frugal nerdy types ... your behind the scenes YT production. What editing software, camera equipment, and production items. Of course, can that be done on a frugal budget. We hear other YTers buying expensive production equipment and building studios, we want to do that on a frugal level, and who else to start our quest but with our favorite frugal couple!

    It's a wonderful life.
Spring is my favorite time to wait for a warm, sunny day. I grab an outdoor chair, or if the ground is dry, an old quilt and a pillow, and my worn-out copy of Beatrix Potter's tales. Nothing says spring to me like those sweet critters and their shenanigans. I will neither confirm nor deny that the occasional nap is part of this spring-time ritual. I think it's time to normalize power naps outside in the sun. It was my favorite way to nap/rest as a child and will always be.

You asked what we enjoy about springtime…ours is year round. In our free Bible app, each morning we both take our breakfast coffee and sit together. We silently read “the verse of the day” listed, then talk about what God’s saying and how we can apply it. This is free, and a wonderful way to keep growing!🥰👋

As I was watching you rake the leaves, I was inwardly concerned about copperhead snakes. In Missouri, you have to be so careful because they love to create homes in cozy leaf piles. Not sure if it is a NY thing, but if it is, please be careful.

I'm always surprised when people (not just you! LOL) use plastic wrap to cover bread dough. My grandma taught me to use a clean kitchen towel. No waste and the towel should never touch the dough but if it's clean enough to dry your dishes it shouldn't hurt the dough if it does touch.
