I love you two so much! I find contentment knowing that I am a child of God. Without Christ there really isn’t any true contentment. My home, chickens , garden, family bring me much joy. Simplicity is what I desire most. Learning this is a challenge. God bless you both.

I am 74 years and work at our library which I love! But, I happen to have 6 days off in a row so I’m working on some projects: cleaning up my flower 26:35 🎉 beds, making barbecue sauce and pizza sauce from my garden tomatoes, making cucumber relish from our cucs, catching up on the ironing and reorganizing my sewing/guest room. These projects give me great joy! Yes, even the ironing because I’m watching your video as I iron!!

I am so jealous you work at your library! 😊 When I was a kid, I volunteered at the library and LOVED it. I worked in a bookstore in my teen years. I love libraries. Eventually I see myself volunteering in older age again at a library or being involved somehow on a library board. Libraries are safe spaces and bring me such comfort. ❤️

We found contentment at home when we stopped decorating and arranging our home like it was "supposed" to be and instead made it work for our interests. We have a small home and crammed our past times into cluttered corners for years, out of the way. But why should our interests that we love be out of the way? We decided we wanted an art studio instead of a living room set-up, so that's what we did. Life changing! If we have guests, we make it work, but most of the time it's just us and our projects. Much happier!

I’ve had some major health issues over the years, and what I’ve found to bring contentment is to watch and fill my mind with content like yours or homemaking/cleaning channels. My husband and I have a phrase we often use, “tweaking our systems “. That means making little changes to improve how we do things, store things, etc. So Paul was tweaking your systems, with your under sink storage. So satisfying.
Today my husband and I froze sweet corn. His nephew (he is our neighbor) grows a lot of sweet corn each year. It is a hobby that he enjoys, he shares the corn with family, friends and even has an evening when he invites co-workers to bring their families out to the farm so the kids can run around and everyone can pick sweet corn. When I say he plants a lot of sweet corn, I mean he plants A LOT of sweet corn. Ha, ha.
Anyway, my husband picked 4 dozen ears early this morning and helped me husk it. Then I took over, blanching and cooling it. I now have 18 pints of delicious sweet corn in my freezer.
We are in our 70’s and are no longer able to have the large vegetable garden we used to. So we are blessed to have an opportunity to preserve food, even in a small way.
    Thank you for being encouragers!

Hi Emmy and Paul. Since moving into Hospice care, I have found contentment in just being home. I was so tired of hospitals and nursing homes. I am content being in my own space, fixing my own meals and just enjoying the quiet of being home. You have a whole new perspective on your surroundings and on what brings you peace.

My Mom did that, but she used the plain white index cards. She said she wanted to use the pretty ones to write out for her box and to write out to give to someone. Mom said in the forties, they did a letter called "a round robin" you wrote your letter, and included a recipe. It was addressed to the first person. Then that person read your letter and they would write a letter and a recipe. Then both letters were enclosed together and sent to the next one in line, who read the two letters and then wrote her own and include hers and mailed the three to the next one. Eventually the stack of letters and recipes got back to the beginning person who got to read them all. Then take out her first letter and write a new one and it would go again. And they got passed along so they all read them. It was so precious when she proudly showed me her stacks of letters and recipes. Some would copy them and put in duplicates all with the pretty index cards. One of my Aunt's always included a joke or two. Another one was very artistic she drew on her recipe cards. One gave helpful hints, like "sugar curls" and homemade starch for ironing. One wrote scripture on her cards. Another sent seeds from her own garden. They would all be caught up and have new recipes to tryout. With technology we've lost so much....

@@coffeepotmommah7291that's a wonderful way of keeping a friend/family group in touch and keeping things interesting in the kitchen too.
I don't think I know enough people who regularly collect recipes and cook to even make a Round Robin group. Definitely not enough who know each other for sure.
What a sweet treasure those letters must be for you to read.

Thanks again Emmy & Paul for reminding us in this world of hyper-inflation, things that are thrown out by others can be repurposed . I have a dirty shelf over my washer and dryer. I took a flowery yellow, bright contact paper and lined it. It matches the wall, and now I enjoy looking at it proudly, knowing I did the right thing!! My contentment comes from snuggling my sweet, senior rescue dachshunds. Happy to report my boys were at the vet Wednesday (one for annual shots, and both got blood work--one an annual check and the other for pre-op dental screening). Both their blood work was great. Yoda's thyroid level was low so he was started on a very inexpensive medication abd we will recheck his level next month. The boys are 14 and 15. The vet was shocked at how healthy their blood work was! I am so grateful!❤️❤️

We love to garden, and do home projects to beautify our house. We have a little home gym in the garage we love to workout every morning together and focus on health and activity. I have been decluttering my home for about six months, and it is so freeing and surprisingly easy. Clothes, purses, books and kitchenware have all taken a major editing hit. By editing down clothes, for instance, I got from two dressers down to one in my bedroom, freeing up more walking space and breathing room. I wish I had done it years ago.

Currently what brings me joy and contentment is restocking my canning cupboard with this year's garden harvest. All of my months of hard work have paid off, and we have wonderful food to enjoy over the winter months. I am canning up lots of roasted tomato sauce, as well as bread and butter pickles, and sweet pickle relish, and some pickled peppers.

Lately, I have been finding contentment and satisfaction downsizing my “stuff”. After living in this house for over 40 years, it is definitely time! I donate the nice items, throw out the junky stuff!! This is going to be an ongoing project for quite a while, but it’s definitely bringing me joy to finally be doing it!!

    • @S_H9260

Nice! I had a tough time getting started with decluttering at first but the more I do it the easier it becomes to let go of things. I always worried what if I would need it later, but if it isn't used now, or something that makes me smile when I see it I don't need it and if I need it in the future I can find another one of most things.
It's freeing to not have all the "stuff" taking up space in the house and in my thoughts.

My contentment comes from creating unique gifts for my family and friends. Most recently, I created a “family tree” coffee mug design for my cousin’s daughter and her husband for the birth of their daughter. I ordered the mugs for my cousin and his wife, his daughter and her husband, and the in-laws. I design and send birthday, holiday and sympathy cards. Specifically, I send sympathy cards to all public safety agencies which have lost a member in the line of duty, as well as their families.

I'm a single, 64-year-old, retired RN. I love being at home in my 900 sq ft condo, "Rose Cottage." I have a 12-year-old rescue cat, SmokeyRose, who brings me so much joy. I find contentment in simple things: Sitting on my patio, admiring my flowers. Washing dishes by hand (no room in my tiny condo for a dishwasher). Tending to my vegetables and herbs in my container garden. Trying out new recipes (I will be making that corn chowder soon). Watching your videos is one of my favorite pastimes. I feel content and satisfied when I stay within my grocery budget by shopping the loss leaders and markdowns. I just love living a simple lifestyle. Blessings

I don’t know how much money it saves but it brings me contentment. We never buy apples, strawberries or foods we can make with them from the grocery store. Every year we go to pick what we can at local farms. Then I make everything from pies to jams, butters, applesauce and dehydrate fruits for snacks throughout the year. I love looking forward to what we can go pick ourselves each season and then cooking with it.

I’ve been finding such joy and contentment in my prayer time and bible study. Even though the study is for adults, I read it out loud for my kids. I pray out loud so they know how to pray, as in we pray for the needs of others and thank Him for our many blessings. We talk about the Bible verses, expecting all about how we can utilize the verses in our own lives! I am finding peace in having a closer walk with Jesus and being a better mother m to my boys. My husband is happy we got the bat out of our home. The boys were very content that they got their first set of colored pencils….which kept them occupied for a few hours. I’m dealing with some sort of cough/sinus issue so I really needed a few extra hours to nap with them being quiet.

Being outside in my backyard brings me so much contentment. Tending my veggie babies, listening to my hens chattering, pulling weeds and neatening things up brings me joy and a vital feeling of connection with God’s beautiful Earth.
I’m having a big no-waste food week, starting this morning. I had signed up to bring some snacks for our church social hour. In looking through my freezer drawer I found some frozen berries and half a loaf of homemade bread. I cut the bread into cubes, mixed it with the berries, half a dozen eggs, milk and cinnamon and voilà- French Toast cups baked this morning in muffin tin liners. They were a huge hit! Last night I used a ball of pie dough and mozzarella cheese from the freezer to make a Tomato Basil Tart. The rest of this week is devoted to using more contents from that drawer as well as the veggies still coming in from the garden. I haven’t needed a major grocery run for weeks and that’s a great timesaver ⏰

Boy was I looking forward to this video. I just finished watching it. I have contentment in many things. Lately it’s finishing pending diy projects that were delayed since Spring. As I finish, materials go back to their place. And I feel better. I enjoy having a pretty garden. It’s nice when everything is deadheaded and weed free. I need more perennials but our garden store closed. I will look for Rose of Sharon. I need August flowers.
Lastly, I enjoy fall and winter decor. So when fall hits, I put my wreath up, front porch decor, fall bouquets, change out the linens and make wreaths from my vines. I harvest the garden and do canning.

Every 2 weeks, I make a “clean out the refrigerator soup” which is both healthy and frugal. Never heard of corncob broth - great idea!

Hi Paul and Emmy! My Husband Richard and I are early retirees , he retired in 2015 at 52 due to some health issues and I in 2020 during the pandemic. I’m 59 and am still trying to find contentment in our home . I do get a lot of enjoyment and encouragement from your channel. I have to say that this Summer planting and gardening and making our yard look more beautiful has really helped me find this. I’m still learning to be more frugal and recently started thrifting vs going out and buying new things. I’m trying to make our home more comfortable and relaxing. I’m grateful to be able to be home and enjoy my time with Richard, our family and Friends. ❤

Found contentment this week by using up some odds and ends to make a fish pie from scratch. Had a couple of fillets of frozen fish, bag of mixed frozen veg, a couple of potatoes. I defrosted the fish and the veg, threw together a white sauce, made mash, assembled the pie and grated cheese on the top. 40 minutes in the oven. Delicious.

Question of the day: I find I'm more content when I plan extra time for the tasks of the day ... that way, I can do what needs done at a slower, more peaceful pace.
For example, supper is served at 6 - I usually meal plan a day in advance, sometimes a few days (when my children were all still at home, I'd meal plan for 1 week at a time). I do what I can earlier in the day and then begin the rest at 5 pm. Usually it will only take me a half hour, but that's if I rush. Rushing stresses me out, so knowing what I'm making, doing some ahead of time, and then starting at 5 to be ready by 6 means I'm actually ready and relaxed by 6.
I do the same with laundry and cleaning - allow extra time so I'm relaxed instead of stressed.

Hi Emmy and Paul, For your recipes.....if you have ones that you want to keep the actual paper (may have been hand written or have pictures) you can find photo albums with the peelback pages or the replacement pages and use a 3 ring binder. It allows you to place them together by type and is a wipable surface in the kitchen. The rest you can copy onto the beautiful cards you found.
My contentment is 2 fold, first I am content when i pay all my bills, that is such a relief. Second, I feel contentment when I have what I need at home to keep me fed and occupied if I could not get out to the store or other places for enjoyment. I am a homebody to the core so having it all here makes me smile and I can sit back and relax.

First off, it is starting my day with my Savior, thanking him for bringing me through another night and praising him for the many blessings He has given me. Next, I am an avid reader, so sitting down with a good book and cup of tea brings me contentment.
As I do a lot of crocheting, I like to take my leftover yarn and make lapghans for the local Hospice. They are very grateful when they receive them.
And lastly, making my bed every morning. If I don’t get anything else accomplished during the day, at least I have that done.

I don’t own a home, and with the craziness of housing prices, I don’t know if I ever will. I have been really trying to be thankful for having my necessities and even some wants. I’d love to have a home, garden, etc. I live in an apartment with no outdoor space. Being content for me is remembering that there are pro’s & cons to most things, and I need to be thankful for what I have, and find ways to be around nature despite not having my own home/yard, etc. We have so many luxuries that others do not, so being content shouldn’t be hard, but we need to remind ourselves of the blessings we do have and not take it for granted. Thanks Emmy & Paul.

Frugal win of the week… zero waste breakfast burritos. I took five slices of bacon, one cup of instant brown rice, some frozen fajita vegetable, eggs, and some left over tortillas from fajita night. It made a total of ten burritos. We ate some for breakfast this morning and then I made the rest of them up, wrapped them individually in aluminum foil and placed in ziploc bags. For the next week, I now have a quick breakfast that can be reheated in the toaster oven for my husband to eat on his way to work. Normally, those few slices of bacon would have probably been thrown out because it wasn’t enough for us to eat for breakfast like we normally do, but by crumbling it up and adding it to eggs and rice, I stretched it and my husband said they were the best I’ve ever made! ❤

This year I took the Family garden over. My kids who live with me still are working now and I have retired, And a recent widow. My contentment is finding ways to make my garden better.(Buckets for the win, planted zucchini, And bush beans in buckets, had the biggest crop of both we’ve ever had) fact, this year’s been the best garden we’ve ever had. My happy place right now is out in the garden, and I’m enjoying finding new ways of using the The produce. (I have never made corn chowder or even had it so your recipe today is going into my we’re gonna try that next week list )Up to the last two years it’s just been a hobby garden this year. It’s a survival garden and we haven’t wasted very much at all this year. I am really proud of us. We’re getting it into the dehydrators in the freezers And we’ve tried more canning this year. We even did dandelion jelly lol.

There is a verse in the Bible that my husband reminds me of whenever we feel discontent. And I don't remember exactly where it is and I'm kind of paraphrasing it but it says to be content in whatever state we are in. And that's the way I feel about being frugal. We have a home that we are mortgage-free living in we are Consumer Debt free. This is our Oasis we have three and a half acres back in the woods and we are living the life that gives us the most peace joy and contentment. Because my husband is a home improvement contractor he obviously is very handy and he put a family room on the back of our home with high ceilings and a lot of open Timbers and just a really rustic beautiful feel. That has just added more joy and contentment to our home and this will be the home will be in forever.❤
