  • Because I probably won’t stop revenge bedtime procrastination (AKA, staying up way too late to get some peace) we have had to adapt ways to keep the morning moving with a sleepy momma. I want the smoothest morning with as minimal meltdowns as possible. Here are my favorite hacks for our neurospicy morning routine. 1. Wake Up Window! We wake up fifteen minutes earlier in the morning than we have to to build in a “wake up window”. We snuggle, chat, and connect before we launch into the morning routine. 1. Body Doubling is Everything We body double our morning routine. After our “wake up window”, we brush our teeth and hair at the same time, get dressed at the same time, put on our socks and shoes at the same time, pack our bags for the day, you get it. Everything. We do everything together to limit the power struggles and support the neurospicy motivation. 1. Have a Visual Routine We have a nifty routine chart with pictures that cue each step we should be completing. There is a picture for getting dressed, eating, brushing teeth, brushing hair, shoes, EVERYTHING. Not only do visual cues create a fun “check box” routine (dopamine anyone?), but they also hack our executive function so multi-step directions and routines are easier to follow.
