The Pineapple Thief Reaction
Solid band , great song. They are definitely a " mood" band for me. Not what you would call upbeat, happy songs here. But quality musicianship. And some more "polished" Radiohead vibes as well.
Great band for rainy winter nights...

I like their music, although it tends to stay in a narrow zone. Not a huge dynamic range, but good listening.
You nailed it. I've always thought of The Pineapple Thief in terms of mood and vibes and texture. I absolutely love them. I love to immerse myself in the musical elements. Vocally, with Bruce it often just feels like he's just one of the instruments.
Check out Final Thing On My Mind Live, to get a good sense of the band and the talent.
For whatever it's worth, I find myself listening to The Pineapple Thief, Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree and maybe a bit of Floyd in the same sitting, often with a bottle of wine and candles. All about mood.
Great movie soundtrack music
Sounds like Todd Rundgren's more recent stuff. Subtle vocal approach.
Pineapple Thief are sometimes thought of as Porcupine Tree-lite (they even have the same initials). Gavin playing for both bands just cements the similarity. Bruce Soord is a more traditional singer-songwriter than Steven Wilson (in an English indie-rock sort of way), although I rate SW a better songwriter. Still, Pineapple Thief can often scratch the same itch that Porcupine Tree does, so fans of one are often fans of the other. I'm personally pretty lukewarm on Pineapple Thief, but every time I hear them I usually think "This is better than I expected." The other Porcupine Tree-related band folks might want to check out is Blackfield. It's a project between SW and Israeli musician Aviv Geffen (who I believe introduced SW to Ninet Tayib and his current wife.)

"White mist" is their best song to me. Try it if you dare. I am too poor for donations
Gavin elevated this band quite a bit with his playing but I still can't get into them. I find most of their songs kind of build up and up but never resolve (if that makes sense). And yes, his voice has never clicked with me.
