“The new album was a joy to make. More so than any other The Pineapple Thief album before it. Everything came together so effortlessly and I think this comes across when you hear the record.”
    Bruce Soord
After the worldwide acclaim generated by the 2014 anthemic rock release Magnolia, The Pineapple Thief returns with its most ambitious studio album to date, Your Wilderness OUT NOW.
Your Wilderness, their 11th studio album, showcases the band performing without any inhibitions providing a springboard for the ongoing creative growth of The Pineapple Thief.
For the first time, The Pineapple Thief has brought in several special guest performers. “Since our last album Magnolia, the most eye catching change is obviously having Gavin Harrison contribute drums throughout the album” explains Bruce Soord. “This has not only redefined our sound but also redefined how we approached the songs as a band. Gavin's drumming is technically brilliant but also incredibly musical, and it inspired all of us to raise our game. I've also rediscovered my progressive roots in terms of song-writing and arrangement. Added to that, we were lucky enough to have John Helliwell from Supertramp contribute some beautiful clarinet parts and Geoffrey Richardson (Caravan) provided a string quartet. We were also joined by a lovely 4 piece choir and to cap it all off, my friend Darran Charles (Godsticks) added some jaw dropping guitar playing... You've never heard a The Pineapple Thief album like this one! I am convinced people will love this record as much as we do.”
Carl's thought provoking collection of photographs perfectly compliment the concept of the album, something which Soord is tight lipped about. “It should reveal itself to the listener and be open to interpretation. I don’t want what it means to me to influence how it affects you”.
Your Wilderness was recorded entirely by the band with the exception of the drums, which Gavin Harrison produced & engineered at his own studio. The string quartet which was recorded at Geoffrey’s own studio in Canterbury. The album was mixed and produced by Bruce Soord and Steve Kitch with mastering duties also carried out by Steve. There will be a special lossless 5.1 surround mix available with the special edition mixed by Bruce.
Seen as one of the most vital rock bands the UK has produced over the last two decades, The Pineapple Thief was formed in 1999 by founder and chief songwriter Bruce Soord. The band has steadily evolved and refined it’s sound with the bass playing of Jon Sykes and the production and keyboards of Steve Kitch now so integral to the sound. “After so many years, The Pineapple Thief has become way bigger than the sum of it’s parts.” explains Soord.
Bruce Soord has also collaborated with the likes of Wisdom Of Crowds (with Katatonia’s Jonas Renkse), Katatonia (joining the band on its 2014 acoustic European tour), and has created 5.1 remixes for artists such as Opeth, TesseracT, Tim Bowness and Katatonia. Soord also released his debut self titled debut solo album through Kscope in 2015.
The Pineapple Thief is currently booking a European tour for late 2016 and planning live shows in USA / Canada
Your Wilderness will be released by Kscope on CD, LP, digitally and as a special deluxe 12” hardback book

Absolutley 100% and I agree totally underrated (I think the USA had handed Portnoy's drumming accolades out to many times, At least Gavin took Prog Drummer of the year away from Mike a few years back). Been to two of his drum clinics, and he is a down to earth regular dude, very kind, answers even the most simple questions from new drummers totally professionally. After the clinic he comes off stage, hangs around for hours talking and meeting with you and others in the crowd. Totally inspired me to keep on Prog drumming)

For sure ! Another GREAT band stupidly snubbed by deaf or "snobbish" music critics.......... Even the fab' Steven Wilson's Music continues to be ignored or unloved by many of them...
Btw, talking about Riverside, I don't know what Mariuz Duda & partners will do now, without Piotr Grudzinski, but I hope they'll find a way to involve themselves in new projects, that could help to mourn his death together...
Thanks for your answer, 'man ! :)

Didn't even know Gavin Harrison was on this record until I heard it and thought to myself "that sounds an awful lot like Gavin Harrison". You know you're a brilliant drummer with a unique style when that happens. This album is one of my favourite The Pineapple Thief releases to date, absolutely gorgeous.

Kind of how TOOL is unique. You recognize certain sounds that pinetrate the soul. While Maynard has many bands, his voice and style of writing is evident. Just as The Pineapple Thief is... amazing artists due to being unique plus touching the soul (relatable). In fact, NIN and TOOL have been my top favs among others until discovering TPT. Porcupine Tree came LONG before Stephen Wilson or TPT

This band has, ever since their humble beginnings, never ceased to amaze me with the originality and quality of their progressive rock song writing and composing. Add to this the beautifully crafted music of Soord's albums... And to top it all off, add Gavin Harrison's drum dexterity, nuance, and power, you've got a receipe for a truly remarkable album coming. Hold on to your seats folks, and staple your hats... this album will be a tremendous hit and will blow your shorts off! Already bought the magnificent case package coming soon... Great work TPT guys!!!! I'm one of your strong supporters, and will continue to be! Cheers, and be well.

Mellow Sound Treatment You're gonna get your wish! He played this song on his live lesson for Drumeo. It'll be uploaded in a month or two on their channel.

One word : MASTERPIECE ! Thank you so much for such pleasure, guys. For this track and the whole album ! Big ups to Bruce, Steve & Jon... and, of course, the "Amazin' Gavin" :) and the other great guests (John, Geoffrey, Darran... and everyone involved in this real treat !). ***>(**)

I lost count of how many times I have listened to this song and specially to this final solo. The guitar feels so tragic and the whole solo feels like something that is going down in flames towards its end and there is no other possible way. It's really beautiful and the scenes in the video match the feeling. Its amazing. I cried so many times with this final sequence. One of my favorite guitar solos all time together with Confortably Numb and Arriving Somewhere But Not Here. Incredible

as someone posted somewhere, more than a song, an experience. Not to take away from the rest of the great musicians but holy fuck Gavin takes TPT to a different place!

@@alessandromariani99 Ok. Hard to know on the internet if people are joking or not.
Personally I don't find them that similar, they just seem to be conveniently lumped together under the so called 'prog rock' heading.
I kind of like Porcupine Tree but don't like Steve Wilson. I find him pretty arrogant.
Plus some of their material is way to similar to things that I was listening to in the 70's, especially early Genesis.
The Pineapple Thief are also interesting, but pretty much all of their tracks have the same melancholy 'lost love' type of theme, which gets tedious after a while.
There are lots of other bands that I'd rather listen to, who really deserve the title 'progressive'. 🙂
