Note to all of you that want to farm lox, do so with care. They are prolly the scariest enemy in the game since their attack speed/movement speed buffs.

What is the condition of something to be considered farmable? For example... A farm made from a mob spawner? Greydwarf spawners are farmed for easy afk wood. If we now accept a portal to a building made to kill a mob you know will spawn then drakes also fall into this category. Now we have eyescream. Fish trap?
I'd have to disagree that they buffed food. Sure I had to leave my base, but when my health is stupid high past 250, and my stamina was also dumb high, talking big boi bar, what did an in game days trip really mean when those were the stats I'd be rocking. Now its more of one or the other, or excel at neither for health and stamina, where as before it was really high for both. Lox meat was honestly really easy to get late game, and some plains have pack spawns near each other which means a 5 minute trip could easily yield 2 stacks of meat, one to eat, the other for pies, and then fill in the last slot with something good like blood pudding or fish wraps (both of which weren't actually that hard to acquire either. Sure you had to dedicate like an in game day to gathering stuff for food, but once you had the food, your stats were well worth it. So yeah, just in my opinion, I think it was in fact a huge nerf for food. However I think it was almost a necessary nerf, as foods use to be basically a jack of all trades. Sure there were variations that leaned towards health or stamina, but it always still had a high amount of both regardless (like blood pudding having 90hp, and 50 stamina, that 50 stamina was still good stamina). Now you have to sort of plan your stats accordingly to fit more of what you want to do.
I have the same problem, and I made sure they are nowhere near close to fire. Even the little ones suddenly get the urge to scream and run inside the cage for a couple of seconds and then go back to roaming
Entrails (and thus sausages) can also be on this list, if you can make a base in the drauger village, so technically - renewable without leaving the base Actually - thistle is not renewable... So scratch that
Another awesome video as always! I haven't started a new playthrough yet, been playing 7 Days to Die for the first time, but revisiting Valheim will probably be coming soon. I would like to see you do some videos on 7 days, it's come a LONG way since it was released and is actually pretty fun now. It has some decent content creators, but no one really up to your caliber that I can find. (A LOT of let's plays, but no one doing current in-depth tutorials) There's going to be a big patch coming soon (A20) so I can see a lot of new and returning players getting into the game.
Honestly not a major fan of the change, but I'll adapt. Also, I'm at almost day 400 and I have seen ONE 2 star wolf that killed me (caught me off guard as I was fighting a golem) and no 2 star boars, I really want to know where these mythological creatures are...background, I have 2 mountain bases, one plains base and well, a bunch of smaller outpost all over with my main hub at the stone circle from the start of the game, I consistently get 1 star boars, but 2 star I have never seen.
Rumor is the farther you go from spawn the higher your chance to find a 2 star creature. Also I’m pretty sure the 2 star wolves can only come out at night. I have found 2 star boars several times but only one two star wolf. He came with a pack at night and totally murdered me. I did not get him into my pit :(
Wall of text incoming. I managed to find a 2 star boar relatively quickly. Here are some things I followed: 1. Go at least 2km out from spawn. This is roughly around where the swamp begins to spawn. So any meadows at a similar distance should have a good chance to spawn 2 star boars. I believe starred animals won't even spawn until about 800m out. But I believe going further helps. 2. Try to find a small patch of meadows farther out. Not too big, but not too small. This is purely my intuition, but I think a smaller biome concentrates the spawns of everything more. The meadows I found my 2 star in took about a minute to run across from one side to the other and I was seeing boar spawns like crazy. 3. Run around the meadows you find killing every non 2 star boar you see. I believe there are only so many that will spawn in an area, so constantly killing them should give more chances for a 2 star to spawn. 4. When transporting your 2 stars, there are multiple methods you can use. I found the easiest for going long distance was as follows: when you find your 2 star, tamr it and breed with any other boar, doesn't matter their tier. Eventually they will breed and you will have two 2 star boars. Breed those and now you have a source of tamed 2 star boars Incase you accidentally lose one. While the boars are babies, you can push them on to a karve or longship and move them around relatively easy on the boat. Things to keep in mind though, you don't want to sail in the ocean. Serpants will mess everything up. You don't want to sail near shore. Boars will chase enemies and destroy the boat/themselves and jump off. You need to sail far enough from shore to not aggro enemies but also far enough from the ocean to avoid serpants. Also a storm will absolutely mess everything up. If you encounter a storm during your sail...well good luck. This is why you have a breeder to try again! Lmao. Also about your 2 star wolf situation. They only spawn at night in the middle of the mountains (not the edges). So you need to get deep in there for a 2 star. I have done it before but it is quite the challenge!
Berries of all sorts can also be farmable from your base, if you build around bushes that respawn. Bit of a grey area ofcourse, since you dont plant them yourself, but imo i would say berries are farmable aswell.
I am always lucky with my Lox spawns in the plains because they are close to my bases and portals but heuh... damm with that new riding skill, I need to build a Lox farm now XD.
Lox "farm" isn't as fun as it sounds, lol If you do, I'd suggest putting iron gates around them, because they will eventually break everything. I've kept lox in; glass walls made from crystals, wood walls, stone walls. Once the lox started to reproduce more babies, they would eventually just walk around and start breaking the walls.
Really solid video, Spark! Tell me, I'd like to ask you about something I've noticed in Valheim since the update (something that might just be in my head). Lately, I've been getting HUGE amounts of base raids. Many of them multiple days in a row! Have you seen anything or heard anything about the math or timing of base raids being increased by Hearth & Home? Or maybe you know something about what triggers base raids in the first place? I'd love it if you have any insight to share!
Not that I know of. But I have noticed them happening to me a lot more while I have been testing things. But that could just be because I am near all the thing needed to allow a raid to trigger. The longer you hang out in a base the larger the chance of being raided. But they could have tweaked things and if they did it would be really hard to tell for sure.
Hey Spark! Thanks for the vids, love them! Was just dropping a line to tell the story of having a 2 star draugr elite controlling a good part of one of my swamps. WAaited til I was in full fully upgraded wolf armor with a max level silver shield and a lvl 2 silver sword and went for him. Faught him fairly easily, but he got one hit in and STILL hit like a truck... Draugr 2 star elites..... wouldn't recommend them...
While the 2 stars do hit like a truck there is no need to wait for wolf armor to beat it. If you have a bow and can just keep dodging it's attacks you can kill it fairly easy. Getting the high ground on one of those big fallen trees in the swamp helps a ton. Even still without a bow, If you have about 35 defence, a level 3 bronze Buckley, level 3 bronze armour, and a fast weapon like a spear, you can make quick work of the 2 stars with some well timed dodges. Just don't run out of stamina! Also always good to have an escape route in case things go sideways. I usually keep a portal open right on the edge of a swamp, preferably I'm a safer biome like the black forest.
Will you be making an updated mods video for changes made to the game because of the update? Also, is training on a rock no longer an option? Any tips on an alternative if this is the case. Thank you as always for making such great videos!
@PallyK thats fair, it doesnt quite fit the theme of the video. But i still think going to the spawner and killing draugrs is as calm and reliable as farming.
@@alecsandru8588 I wouldn't really call camping a spawner "foraging" lol. But it is definitely something that can't be done in your base as thats what seemed to be the point of the video. But you can most certainly setup an afk draugr farm and gain a bunch of entrails for little to no work (excluding setting up the farm).

I put those disclaimers like that in there so people understand that its a targeted video. Because if I don't do that I'll get 9000000 comments asking why I didn't talk about this or that and tons of other stuff that has nothing to do with the subject of the video. And while that may be good for video interaction as UA-cam sees it. It does nothing for helping people to learn and only causes more confusion. My community is actual pretty freaking amazing. I agree with almost everything, but... I think Lox Pie is way better than Lox Meat. Yeah, you can't farm cloudberries, but they are very veeeery abundant.
@@Antixandrosactually you can make fish farms without fishing, the fish jump all over the place so if you leave a plataform for them to land on you can just grab them when they're on land
@@nintendoman12111 If you can make that consistent, because the places where fish spawn change all the time, then I guess you could call it a farmable resource. Can you make the platform at a place where you consistently get fish? If so how?
Make the Unbaked Lox Meat Pie at the Cauldron. It takes uncooked Lox Meat, Barley Flour and Cloudberries. Take the unbaked pie and approach the oven. The door will open. Hit E to insert the unbaked pie into the oven. Step back and the door will close. Wait twenty seconds or so and you'll hear a sizzling hiss as with the cooking stands. Step forward and the oven door will open. Hit E to retrieve the baked pie from the oven.

@@Firespark81 Yeah that would be fantastic. I use R2modman as a mod manager for risk of rain and it also is a mod manager for valheim. Super convenient and is what i recommend until steam workshop.
So lox are tameable now? Because afaik you have to leave your base to kill them. And where are fish? I have a fishing spot at few of my bases and don't have to get out.
@@BlackFire69 i mean we are fully geared with plains gear, the black metal sword does not look like that in the craft menu tho. it looks like the black metal knife but different shape.
Seriously disagree with some of your combos. Your stamina doesn't regenerate faster with a bigger bar so having more doesn't really help beyond a certain point. You're also eating stamina for blocking when blocking is now based on health total. Is this why people are saying food was nerfed? Obviously personal opinion but having more stamina than health is useless and makes you weaker.
One way of countering the slow stamina regen (well, aside from being rested) is to carry the Tasty meads. They are not potions, so they have no cooldown, and drinking them speeds up stamina regen by a lot. I find running a few steps away from the enemies, popping the mead, and then going back to the fight to be a decent way of benefiting from a large stamina bar (the tactic is less efficient with small stamina bar, because you don't get the full potential of mead, and have to consume it much more often).
I unno man. Without stamina I can’t hit dodge or run away 🤣 I miss the old system. I liked casually playing and just enjoying the atmosphere of it. Now I’m stressed out anytime I need to get resources lmfao. Need stamina to efficiently farm ore, but no longer can have decent middle ground between health or stamina. Your forced to choose between the two and it sucks.
@@Firespark81 they used to be everywhere, now I have to go looking for them and I don't pull aggro as much as before. I started a new seed/new character. I wonder if they changed something.
The new recipes have been very poorly balanced imo. In Iron Age when you have the Spice Rack but not the Butcher's Table yet, the best balanced food (Boar Jerky), the best Stamina food (Turnip Stew) and the best Health food apart from Serpent Stew (Sausages) all use Boar Meat. In addition, Boar Meat is also used in Minced Meat Sauce, which is decent. By comparison, Deer Meat is only used in Deer Stew, which is rubbish and not as good a Health food as either Minced Meat Sauce or Sausages. Why is it that Deer Meat, which has better stats when cooked than Boar Meat, has no good recipes which use it, while Boar Meat is required in almost all the good recipes in Iron Age?? It makes zero sense. It leads to a crazy reliance on Boar Meat during Iron, while my Deer Meat just rots away in storage because there's nothing good I can make with it. There should have been a Deer Jerky as an upgrade to Boar Jerky, and Deer Meat should have been used instead of Boar Meat for either Sausages or Turnip Stew. At the very least, Deer Stew should have been better than Minced Meat Sauce. There is currently no reason to hunt Deer Meat in the game.
I get what you say about deer meat. My only use for it is to feed my wolves. Before they were happy eating their siblings 'raw meat' but now their smart and know it's wolf meat... I always want more hide to carpet floors so at least my wolves can eat venison while I munch on bread.
Because by the iron age you should easily be able to breed boars where as you cannot breed dear. Breading boars and having a butcher's knife means boar meat is extremely abundant. I get what ya mean, though, the only downside over found to deter stew is the required blueberries, as carrots are also really easy to make is massive bulk

Cant be eaten solo and no foods that contain them contain only farmable foods. But yes technically they can be farmed.

So Im just riddicolously lucky. As Im playing with my mates we manager to catch 2-star boar around day 50. Now we have an entire farm of those

It's not really a grey area. You can't create new berry bushes (yet)
Check out the plant everything mod, it greatly improves the game.

I’m surprised no mention of Carrot Stew or Deer Stew. Pretty easy ingredients to get at the start.

You can choose your base location in a way that the cloudberries are in your garden. I have two groups of them, it's nice.

A year late but:
fish is technically farmable if you live by the shore.
Its not renewable because you need to buy bait. I know its cheap but still. The point of this video was 100% renewable foods.

@@fepethepenguin8287 you need all three Cauldron upgrades (Spice Rack, Butcher's Table, Pots and Pans) before Uncooked Lox Pie is available.
Just remember to not cook your Lox Meat beforehand. I cooked all my Lox Meat initially before finding out that the Pie now requires uncooked meat.

I recommend people check out the Plant Everything mod. Greatly improves this game by removing the chore of going on berry runs.
I just wish they would support modding and the steam workshop.
@@Firespark81 Yeah that would be fantastic. I use R2modman as a mod manager for risk of rain and it also is a mod manager for valheim. Super convenient and is what i recommend until steam workshop.

So lox are tameable now? Because afaik you have to leave your base to kill them. And where are fish? I have a fishing spot at few of my bases and don't have to get out.
They have always been tamable. They just lumbered around your base killing things. What is different now is that they have babies.
do you need to generate a new world for all this stuff to appear?
No all of this will generate in old worlds

That would be the black metal sword. Black metal you get from Fulings in the Plains.
@@BlackFire69 i mean we are fully geared with plains gear, the black metal sword does not look like that in the craft menu tho. it looks like the black metal knife but different shape.

Seriously disagree with some of your combos. Your stamina doesn't regenerate faster with a bigger bar so having more doesn't really help beyond a certain point. You're also eating stamina for blocking when blocking is now based on health total. Is this why people are saying food was nerfed? Obviously personal opinion but having more stamina than health is useless and makes you weaker.
One way of countering the slow stamina regen (well, aside from being rested) is to carry the Tasty meads. They are not potions, so they have no cooldown, and drinking them speeds up stamina regen by a lot.
I find running a few steps away from the enemies, popping the mead, and then going back to the fight to be a decent way of benefiting from a large stamina bar (the tactic is less efficient with small stamina bar, because you don't get the full potential of mead, and have to consume it much more often).
I unno man. Without stamina I can’t hit dodge or run away 🤣 I miss the old system. I liked casually playing and just enjoying the atmosphere of it. Now I’m stressed out anytime I need to get resources lmfao. Need stamina to efficiently farm ore, but no longer can have decent middle ground between health or stamina. Your forced to choose between the two and it sucks.

Maybe you got a lucky because I've been seeing just as many this play through. They seem to come for you rather then your boat so much now
@@Firespark81 they used to be everywhere, now I have to go looking for them and I don't pull aggro as much as before. I started a new seed/new character. I wonder if they changed something.
The new recipes have been very poorly balanced imo. In Iron Age when you have the Spice Rack but not the Butcher's Table yet, the best balanced food (Boar Jerky), the best Stamina food (Turnip Stew) and the best Health food apart from Serpent Stew (Sausages) all use Boar Meat. In addition, Boar Meat is also used in Minced Meat Sauce, which is decent. By comparison, Deer Meat is only used in Deer Stew, which is rubbish and not as good a Health food as either Minced Meat Sauce or Sausages. Why is it that Deer Meat, which has better stats when cooked than Boar Meat, has no good recipes which use it, while Boar Meat is required in almost all the good recipes in Iron Age?? It makes zero sense. It leads to a crazy reliance on Boar Meat during Iron, while my Deer Meat just rots away in storage because there's nothing good I can make with it. There should have been a Deer Jerky as an upgrade to Boar Jerky, and Deer Meat should have been used instead of Boar Meat for either Sausages or Turnip Stew. At the very least, Deer Stew should have been better than Minced Meat Sauce. There is currently no reason to hunt Deer Meat in the game.
I get what you say about deer meat. My only use for it is to feed my wolves. Before they were happy eating their siblings 'raw meat' but now their smart and know it's wolf meat... I always want more hide to carpet floors so at least my wolves can eat venison while I munch on bread.
Because by the iron age you should easily be able to breed boars where as you cannot breed dear. Breading boars and having a butcher's knife means boar meat is extremely abundant. I get what ya mean, though, the only downside over found to deter stew is the required blueberries, as carrots are also really easy to make is massive bulk
