gees! for $850 bucks that thing better be perfect and it sounds like its far from it.
Besides the issues of it not functioning correctly I'm not a fan of combo units when it comes to any type of electronics. It reminds of me of those old TV/VCR combos from the '90s. If one component fails, radar detector or dashcam, then you don't have anything when it needs to be sent off for repair or replacement. I'd rather have separate components even if the form factor isn't as clean as having everything in one unit.
as just an average consumer who wants just a decent dash can and decent detector, this thing sounds amazing. the only reason i never bought a dashcam was because setting it up along my 360c was just too much. i definitely think escort is on to something in terms of a good product (like i said, for everyday consumers) . as an everyday, no one wants to deal with wiring batteries for dash cam and all that mess, etc. but a combo unit sounds amazing. as with all initial launches, it's going to be rough for a bit before it starts getting way better. like the iphone 2,3,4... look forward to this unit getting more powerful, better and clearer dash results, and smaller lol. that thing is huge.
Great video!!. I'm glad you point out these issues, when you call in for support, some of them will deny any issues and put the blame on your vehicle. This is what I've been going through. Units turns off for no reasons, don't like that it doesn't turn on automatically like you said, need third wire trigger. You covered it all. I hope cedar fix this. And their driver dumb app!. Thanks again..
The standard 360C is barely worth 650, 850 is just too much

So glad I watched this video. I almost pulled the trigger and purchased the Max Cam 360C. But...after seeing your video, I think it would be prudent to allow Escort to smooth out their issues. I'll be waiting to see future reviews of this unit.

The concept here is totally badass, and I want one. One unit for good radar detection and good camera is very appealing to me. However, all the issues makes me hesitant....maybe I'll buy one in hopes of future updates ( just like I was told not to do lol). Really hope escort gets this thing working like it should. I'd definitely like auto power on when turning my car on, they should use a capacitor like other cams.

I am DynDuo on the Escort Forum. There are even more issues. the JTK interval settings are not present on my MAXcam360c which means the options won't show up in the app as well. I also noticed that I can't re-add my detector to my Drive Smarter app. I get a "device already registered" error. I let Escort know. Hopefully they will get all of these issues fixed soon.

I 100% agree with you. I’ve had mine for a couple weeks and actually like it more than the V1 Gen2 that I sold to get this but the APP is complete TRASH and I hope they are working 24/7 to fix this app.

I have this detector and it’s awesome. App is not great. BSM filtering blows away my uniden r7. Had some really great range on ka 34.7 Over a couple miles easy. If you can get past the app part I think it’s a really good unit. I also think you should test it some more and see how it compares with some long range testing. In the future. Thanks vortex

Bought mine immediately upon launch notice. Just dropped it off at Fed Ex. Bought the Redline 360 at launch too. Went through many updates and improvements to fix the Redline 360 issues. Just didn’t have the patience to go through all that again with the Maxcam. Really a shame they launched with so many problems because it had so much potential.

I ended up just sending mine back, I was getting so many false alerts that it was driving me crazy. My IXc is still fully functional and hardly have any false alerts with it (and I drive all over the east). Also too I couldn't get it to connect to 5ghz at all, tried multiple different sources and just never connected, when I finally got it connected to 2.4ghz it wouldn't show the speed limit. I tried messing with all of the settings (the app didn't work out at all for the most part, but I figured that would be the case) and no matter what I did/change to the settings it just never performed as good as I would expect for a $1k radar detector. All of this was of course before your review so after watching your review I'm starting to think that maybe it was just my unit.

As an avid Snohomish driver, is there actually a speed radar down in the valley or a stationary speed check that I've missed?
Do you have any recommendations to replace the sticky cup that comes with the detector? Even after thoroughly cleaning the windshield, the sticky cup lets go of the windshield and drops my detector to the dash.
I'm having issues connecting mine to the Drive Smarter app (android).... it connects but then when I continue it keeps telling me duplicate something or other - I tried completely deleting the device from paired bluetooth devices then re-connecting but it keeps tell me its a duplicate in the app. Also tried deleting the app, clearing the cache and data....nothing helps :(

I have a Uniden R7 with the latest FW, I want the dashcam convenience but is it on par with the R7’s range and sensitivity?
If the radar locks out a signal I drive by everyday but it still goes off on the screen (muted) and there is a officer over the hill and the radar does not pick him upon lock out mode, how do I solve this on the Max 360
I really want this thing to work perfectly so I can justify spending that much. Without the apps working "OK" it takes away a lot of appeal IMO. Wait and see, maybe Escort will get all hands on deck and get things straightened out with this new product.
Does anyone know how long the videos are before they are rewritten for a 64GB memory card?, 128GB memory card?, or a 256GB memory card? For instance, can I record a 6 hour driving video out of a 64GB memory card?
One thing I don't like about most dashcams is once the built in battery dies the camera will shut down when you turn the car off, and the camera needs that extra few seconds to power off and process the video file.. If it has a built in battery that cannot be changed out easily, the dashcam portion of this model will be useless about 2 years or so...
For such an expensive detector, Im surprised it's not undetectable for states like Virginia.
What if you’re in a anti radar detector state or place and you just want to use this thing as your dash cam will you still be like in trouble or???

I want to say great channel. I have been watching the Max 360C vs R7 and was possibly interested in the maxcam model but am interested in 360c or R7. I just got the 360C in but have not opened it yet because I don’t know if I should keep the 360C or get the R7. I drive a Hellcat so this is just incase for me so I definitely want a great detector. Please help so much data that I’m lost lol

Do you have a recommendation for a dashcam power pack? The price difference between the Blackvue pack and its competitors seems fairly marginal, especially coupled with the price of the detector itself, but I'd like to know if there's a standout option.
They’re all pretty similar. Maybe different capacities and apps, but ultimately all similar.

I bought uniden r3 based on the vortex 's review. So far the uniden r3 has been a great detector, super long range. Cannot wait until uniden comes out with a combo like this.

Things that aren't great with this device not mentioned:
Escort refuses to allow you to block-out Ka signals
Magnetic connector is not robust enough to handle spirited driving
Bluetooth is required to be connected as well as WiFi Hotspot simultaneously for all functions, rendering any other phone connectivity function useless (ie. streaming Pandora, etc.)
Sometimes the DSP mode doesn't work and shuts down
Escort Live costs a bit of cash and like Waze relies on other Escort Live users. There was only 2 in my city of 800k people using it at any given time, so essentially useless (and expensive).
Database is generally outdated and flawed for most of the red-light camera data (and costs a subscription to update)
How does this compare to Uniden R8?

a MINI USB port?? Did this camera come out in 2001?? I hate it when devices that come out now use micro USB instead of USB-C but MINI?? I can't remember the last time I bought a device that had a mini USB port, but I'm sure it was over 10 years ago. That's just insane for a near thousand dollar device to come with that instead of USB C, or micro at the worst.
I would love to test your radars here in NZ since we have a few different things like red light cams and road side mobile van speed camera to which even the R7 wont detect until its too late.
Red light camera though on highway mode with my R& can detect line of sight red light 6kms away.. i kid you not, only cause its the only way to travel to/from wherei live and i near near this red light cam

Well vortex….. I pulled the trigger and picked up a maxcam 360…..
This review is now 3 months old and since you did the review there has been a new firmware release (1.5 to 1.6) and I am sad to say I am encountering about every glitch and fault you detailed in the video! I was very hopeful they would have some of them corrected by now.
I have to say I am not loving the drive smarter app, escort live seemed to be for more intuitive and mesh better with my last max 360C.
I do hope they fix a lot of the issues here and you can get the maxcam again and do a detailed set up and review with a fully functional unit. I think for the price tag escort owe that.
@peteo'reilly has the radar detector worked well for you? I'm still considering this unit because of the mobility of having a good detector (i think) and dash cam in one unit. I don't see myself using the app much beyond setup features. Only time i'll use the camera much is if i'm in an accident of some sort, so hopefully not often!
@@gjkMN I have been using the radar detector for about 1400 miles now and will say I am very pleased over all!
As for the radar detector it has been bombproof, accurate and the BSM works great with few false alerts! The one thing that annoyed me on set up was I could not turn off OSP via Bluetooth link. I contacted Escort and they and they told me to do it via menu options on detector which worked.
1.6 firmware update has not really solved any of the online issues that I can tell and still see the issues that vortex noted. I don’t use those functions often so for me not a big deal!
The camera resolution and quality is a little better then I expected but still does not have thumbnail images on file review.
Overall I am very happy with the stand alone unit! If you intend on just using it as a plug and play unit (not online use) I think you will love it!
It's a good radar detector, the dashcam works, so where is the problem? I don't need to use any apps with it... I ordered it.

Only if you need an integrated dashcam. Given the choice I prefer the regular Max and a standalone dashcam.

Yeah it's okay but you figure the redline is 750 .100 bucks more for the cam I'll pass but the r4 ya would of thought they could of put arrows on that one

@@VortexRadar To be honest I don’t know why it’s not on there. I wouldn’t have turned that off on purpose. Other things like the watermark, speed, etc I chose to to turn off. I don’t recall whether lay/long was an option. Now I dont have the Maxcam anymore so I can’t get into the device settings of the DriveSmarter app to check. I have an iPhone.

This is a technically review, not a tutorial video, but I have part of the video devoted to that. Use the chapters to skip to that section. The best way to do it is via wifi.

I don't understand why would anyone buy such device. Yea, you may think you're saving a tiny bit of space on windshield by such combination, BUT there are major drawbacks with that, some of which are mentioned in video - you can't angle the camera independently from radar (you may not want your camera facing straight ahead depending on things like the size and the shape of the hood on your car or light reflections from your dashboard) and if the detector goes bad - you must return it without having ability to continue using the cam. And you can't upgrade your camera independently from radar detector if you will want to upgrade it to get better quality or better features, and you can't do things like remove the radar detector from windshield when you're driving through area where they are illegal but continue using dashboard cam.
@Randomness I totally get what you are saying, but I’ll answer your question with two words: simply convenience. I don’t have to wire up three cars and it is sleeker in footprint and power source than having independent pieces of hardware. I just purchased two extra mag mounts and I can pop from one car to the other to my truck with zero complexity.
not sure about putting this expensive unit in the car and then get your window broken and stolen. I already own a radar detector and it is a pain removing it when parking in public.
What if you mounted it up high, tucked just under the tint strip? It’s big either way, for sure, but an idea.
Im concerned too. Didn't vortex say it just comes off easy, is it a magnet it looks like. The one thing that i couldn't tell from video is exactly how he is taking it off so quickly from the holder. Magnet??
