I retired from a jurisdiction right outside DC so I had the opportunity to work w/the Secret Service many times. They are top notch folks, very professional & very serious about their responsibilities. One agent made arrangements for me to have my picture taken, in full uniform, w/President Reagan.
I was a security officer who was assigned to the Presidents helicopter. When any part is removed for repair, it is escorted to and from the repair department by an armed escort officer, and that officer stays with that part, until it is repaired or a certified replacement is found.
Jay is the consummate professional. He was able give us an incredible inside picture of "The Beast" without actually seeing inside himself. He was actually able to get the agents to smile once or twice.
The Beast actually spoke more about himself than the Secret Service when he roared to life. I had a feeling it was diesel powered but it's now been confirmed. Thanks.
Love the story the Secret Service mechanic told. It shows real people deal with real things and how they figured it out and still made it happen. No pretending that these vehicles never have an issue

Agreed. Absolutely amazing that he was able to talk to them about the _current_ Beast. It's one thing if it's an older historical model, which is probably why he couldn't show much. But just seeing this up-close in this video told me a lot, such as the engine. No idea what it is, but it's BEEFY. That's probably closer to a semi-transport's engine. Sheesh!
FYI... The 'kid' who ran into President Ford's limo in Hartford, CT had the green light. It was the presidential motorcade that ran the red light. Apparently there was a miscommunication over which officer was supposed to be covering that particular intersection.
That's why, in my country, every vehicle in a motorcade has the right to run a red light so long as the first vehicle had a green light. Other cars have to give way to the motorcade.

1992, Bush/Quayle era, I was an insurance appraiser in northern Virginia. One of our approved body shops did all the Secret Service vehicle body work. Walked into the body shop one day, big black limo with Agents carrying MAC 10's in front. Body shop manager said, "That's President Bush's car. Secret Service Agents are here 24/7." I know it was too secretive to talk about literally anything at all, but I still learned so much and got a better perspective of what it means to be a secret service agent, how one gets that job, and truly just how unbelievably large that thing is.
It's amazing just how large of a vehicle it is. You don't get that sense when you see it on the news; but when you see Jay and the agents standing next to the car, you get a better sense of how big it is.
Some other interesting facts. The owner of PPEI tuning was asked by the government to make an emissions delete tune for the diesel in the president's limo. Then, that same government, sued him for making emissions delete tunes for the rest of us. "Rules for thee, but not for me".
I read up on the October 1975 crash into President Ford's limo. It was Hartford Connecticut. It was the _President's_ limo that ran the red light, not the _teenager's_ car (and there were six teenagers in the car). Security personnel failed to man one intersection that the President's car was racing through, and a teenager smashed his Buick right into the limo. The teenage driver was amazed to find himself facing Ford sitting in his limo a few feet away. The limo paused for half a minute then drove off at high speed, with minor damage. Trailing agents drew weapons and seized the four teenage boys and two teenage girls. As the limo drove off at high speed, the car in front if it had to stop suddenly for a pedestrian, and the limo hit the back of it. Then a car behind the limo smashed into the back of the limo too. So, completely not the fault of the teenager, and a bunch of damage done to the limo was not by him.
The small stories and the even tinier bits of info about the vehicle were just amazing. And only Jay could loosen up these fine Secret Service gentlemen and humanize them for us. Just seeing it drive in and drive out of the garage - astounding. The ground clearance is insane!!

I can’t think of any entertainer that’s had the same level of presidential access as Jay has had over the years. He’s done episodes about cars with Biden, Obama, and Bush and all involved driving with them which is incredibly rare - and now we have this magnificent episode.
Jay IS government, wake up! Supposed "entertainers' aren't here for our sake. They are paid handsomely to keep the sheep distracted, as the cartel fleece us into serfdom.
Probably timed to coincide with Biden's recent trip to CA. I doubt that they would go to trouble and expense to fly the cars across the country for this. This says it was posted 12 days ago, so July 9, 2024. That is 4 days before the rally in Butler, PA.
The story about the presidental seal on the inside of the limo tells me that the people who make the limo care more about the history of the country than the people that ride in it
Yep - I mean it’s the only way the secret service could ever work. You must be impartial. Obviously everyone has a bias and opinions, but you are doing it for America, not for the sitting president.
A instant cult classic episode. What a honor! Many car collectors to choose from and Jay Leno gets it. This is what being a human being is all about. Thanks Jay!
On 9/11 I was walking home in Sarasota I heard a roar of engines and less than 10 seconds later the Presidential motorcade comes screaming around a corner and each vehicle had it floored. Everything came to a complete stop except that motorcade, it flew by. Those vehicles can move
Listen to the engine as the "beast" pulls out of the garage. I'm hearing a probably quad-turbo'd diesel V6. I have no doubt in my mind that thing could GTFO if it needed to, in a real hurry.
Pretty sure the presidential motorcade doesn't stop for red lights and has the right of way. The issue would have been the police not having the intersection blocked off for the motorcade coming through, not the limo running a red light.
@@brookerobertson2951 Security had evolved dramatically since the Ford Administration. The recent crash into the Presidential Motorcade in which that DUI driver hit a parked Suburban demonstrated the long distances now placed between the limousine and regular traffic.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Al Capone's bullet-proof limo was not a Lincoln, but rather a Cadillac V-16... Reagan's plane was a 707, not a 737, but in fact WAS a longer version of Travolta's plane with is IIRC a 707-138.
Even as a non-American, I can imagine how much of an honour it is to have the incumbent Presidential limousine in your own garage. Although very little was said about the vehicle itself in terms of ordinary vehicle talking points, I still found the conversation interesting. One thing that was made obvious though was that 'The Beast' has air suspension which was clearly visible when loading onto the aircraft at the end. So, that was something fascinating to learn and was reminded about when President Bush's (the latter) limousine got itself grounded as leaving the premises of a building on a visit to the UK. I wonder if that minor hiccup was one of the reasons for adding air suspension (or hydraulic, perhaps?) in the later generation models. I still find it amazing that Jay Leno creates these high quality programmes and distributes them for free on UA-cam. That in itself is testament to his passion for various modes of transport and his desire to share it with anyone who is willing to watch. Thank you Jay for creating these programmes.
Theirs something eternally funny to me about the seal on the door being “low profile” when it’s a car the size of a suburban surrounded by a police escort and several suburbans full of guys with m4s
If you are using a sniper rifle and are 2,000 yards away, then things can appear a bit different. Edit: I probably should clarify that such a sniper would be ineffective against the vehicle or anyone in it. However, there is that brief time when the President is entering or exiting when he is exposed. Good optics would assist in spotting the key vehicles, hence the so-called "low profile" factor does have a purpose.
It's actually pretty impressive he managed to get this done for all of us. The hoops he and his team probably had to jump through to get the USSS approval and cooperation to bring one of those to the garage must have been arduous. It's too bad they couldn't talk about anything technical with it, like the engine, how much it weighs, how on earth they service it (I mean think of how crazy of a lift would be required to get it in the air), but we all understand that there are security concerns. Still really cool to see it. I'd love to have seen them park a long wheelbase Escalade next to it for scale.
It Really Is Interesting Hearing About The Car. That Keeps The President Safe. You All Have A Very Important Job.& Not An Easy One T. Y. For Your Service.& T. Y. Jay. God Bless.
Not immediately. They said later on that they are used for training new drivers, so perhaps they are not all destroyed. But guessing there is a lot of useful information from one vehicle to the next that needs to be protected..

Stepped out of his Canadian tuxedo for a suit.
Just to correct a minor mistake - It was the presidential limousine that ran the red light in Connecticut. The 16-year old had a solid green.
Then the fault was on the local police for not closing the road.
Pretty sure the presidential motorcade doesn't stop for red lights and has the right of way. The issue would have been the police not having the intersection blocked off for the motorcade coming through, not the limo running a red light.
If a kid could have done that by accident imagine what a terrorist could have done with some planning..

Probably needs air suspension, if no other reason that with the long wheelbase, it could easily ground on a kerb.
