Admittedly this is a ‘throw away’ comment but it does amaze me that despite enormous advances in technology within the last 20 years regarding ‘countermeasures’ we still can’t seem to figure out how to create an iPhone dashboard holder that will retain its suction!
Looking forward to more testing. So far I'm leaning towards this MaxCam. Want that RD and cam in 1 unit so I can take in off in my convertible when not needed.

I was told by an RCMP officer that you can usually win in court against a (radar) speed ticket that was issued in the rain. Rain can throw off the radar to a great enough degree that the gun doesn’t read within specs.

I received one as well and have been using it. Agree that the app is terrible and glitchy and slow and needs the functionality of the other. Vortex Radar, I would l love see/read your thoughts on recommended settings for the radar on the unit - especially for someone living in Northern California! :).
I'm excited about the full review. I've had the unit for a week and it will absolutely not let me recognize ANY WIFI, home or public, no hotspot recognition, and no iPhone as a hotspot either. The date and time are also off about 6 hours when set to my time zone, and when the firmware attempts to update via Bluetooth, it never advances past the point of when you accept the upgrade. I've been running a Max 360 with an M1 since the M1 was released and I've had no problems. I was looking forward to the all-in-one unit and the enhancements. Escort has told me they are working on reports of these issues, but I've received no response yet. One of the frustrating parts is the Detector Tools won't allow for the options of just plugging into my PC and updating the firmware in that manner. When attempting the firmware update, it asks for acceptance of the unit itself as the WIFI, but then fails as not connected.
Yeah I’ve had all similar issues. Wifi can be set up with Driver Smarter, not Escort Live. It works for FW updates in my experience, but not speed limits.
@@VortexRadar Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately mine won’t work with either. It did the initial update on my home WI-FI from the garage, and then just stopped any WI-FI connections. Even after factory reset. Weird. I’ll call Escort support tomorrow and hope for feedback that I can’t get through e-mail. BTW, your channel is great.
I gave in and returned the unit during the 30 day period. This was at the suggestion of the support person since they don't have a time frame on the issues with wireless, updates, and time zones. Those were just some of the issues for me. It was suggested I give it some time while they work out bugs and then reorder. I do appreciate the service they have provided to this point and the honesty concerning the unknown time frame.

Is it possible for Escort to boost the performance of 35.5 to match its performance in the other bands? Would it be at the cost of degrading performance elsewhere?
Also, I am interested in the signal noise it gives off. Some comments give the impression it will cause sparks to fly out of neighboring cars' infotainment systems. Will the performance against the rdd be similar to the Max 360c?

I purchased a R8 after seeing your videos last year and I am very happy with it.
Now, I have another vehicle in the garage and I debating if I should spend money again with another detector, BUT, because I also need a dashcam, I am thinking in purchasing a MAXCAM, which would be both, instead of me removing the R8 from my other car everytime I switch vehicles...

Surprised by the results, but the cost for a windshield RD is a deal killer especially when compared to the price point of the Uniden R7 & V1G2. One also has to consider, should either the RD side or the camera side fail or start having issues, you are looking at significant cost for repairs.
You definitely pay a premium for the combo unit. A viofo dashcam plus a regular 360c is a little cheaper. But if you're a volunteer firefighter and already have a million things on your dash and windshield, this makes a lot of sense.
But this new one performs way better than the max 360c
I just sent back my redline 360c. I hated it. Had to go back to the uniden R7.. escort is definitely not on top anymore. Yeah wifi and Bluetooth..etc. escort live sucks. I ran the app for 2 weeks and I didn't force close it..it would keep running and destroy my battery life on my phone. I consulted rdf forum. I thought I might get a bum unit. The end of the day I have to stay with my R7. It just works so good and it's quiet... At this point I'm not a big escort fan... As always thank you for doing some great testing.
Yeah I find that EL works way better over wifi for many reasons. Even their new app that’s supposed to replace EL is problematic. Either way, glad to hear you’re happy with the R7! That’s a great detector. :)
@@VortexRadar I was just watching this video again and the funny thing I was the first comment. I actually decided to try the MAXcam 360c because of the built-in dash cam. I've had the detector for almost 2 moths now and have been liking it so much so I added the ZW5 laser shifters. Anyway I enjoy all your videos and I'm glad you're back at it. I'm active over on RDF also (love it). I saw your reply to a post that you took the MAXcam with you on a trip so I guess haven't given up on it yet lol. I/we would LOVE to see it get in the mix next time you do some testing with some of the newer detectors that have been released......thanks again!! Cheers

Had r3 upgrade to r7.. it's awesome.. definitely a great upgrade
getting arrows is a huge plus and the range is great. i think the best with arrows for the price point right now
Owned an R3 for a few months & when the R7 came out I upgraded & sold the R3. I've been happy with the R7 over the past 2+ years plus having the arrows is helpful.

Like any Escort product, You’ll own it 1 year before it needs a service or just flat out goes bad. Switching to the Uniden R7 was the best decision I’ve made. There is absolutely no reason this product should command this price, camera or not.
I can't agree with that statement at all. I've had several Escort detectors and they never went bad. I'm still on a Max 360C that has been going strong for over two years.
@@vedder10 glad you’ve had good luck. I stopped buying them after the Second Gen Max 360. Right at the 1-year year mark every single Escort detector I owned, outside of the 9500IX and prior would randomly go constant on Laser or constant on KA. After the 4th detector doing this, and with zero support from Escort, I decided I’d give up on the brand. It would take a miracle product for me to return.

It is not intended to be another massive shootout with 10-20 detectors.

Do any radar detectors work with waze? I quit using radar detectors years ago because they seem to ring all the time with everybody's new radar cruise control.
I'm sure they've corrected that problem now but waze alerts you like more than a mile before you would see the cop seems like that working in conjunction with a radar detector in case the cop is hiding.. would be ideal.
I mean honestly the easiest answer is just quit speeding which I did years ago and haven't gotten a ticket since.
But this is Florida so it's all highway all the time with the speed limit of 70 through town so you don't ever really need to speed as you basically can go 80 anywhere and never get pulled over.
Radar would mainly be for side streets but that's where little kids might run on the road so you'd be an a****** to speed there anyways.
I guess when I started driving and it was 55 mph all over the United States radar detectors made a hell of a lot more sense but since you can basically go 80 miles an hour and never have a fear of being pulled over on any highway.. it's really not as necessary anymore
