To be fair, you are the sole reason I may start doing tutorials in spanish, my native language, at some point, you inspired me and I guess that you did so with a lot of people. You are very didactic and easy to follow. For people wondering why Red Hawk pointedly ignores/avoids saying BudgetMonk's name: Budgetmonk has very right wing views that resulted in him being pseudo-canceled by the EU4 content creation community. Political extremism is so common in Paradox game communities its practically a meme in the HOI4 community that everyone is either communist or fascist so they can't really get rid of him. Paradox themselves is aware of it as well, which is why in more recent games they've toned down the amount of "gamer" things you could do, like you could actually just do the Holocaust in HOI2 for example (it wasn't called that but you could "remove undesirables"), how the ideal government in Vic2 was a fascist dictatorship but in Vic3 the ideal government is a laissez-fair multicultural utopia, or how slavery has basically no downside in EU4 aside from being a low value trade good or the Genocide button in Stellaris. Its also perfectly understandable why the content creators would take offense to Budgetmonk's rhetoric as well, many of them are from countries that suffered because of those ideologies. It also doesn't help that Budgetmonk is, in general, kind of an asshole even if you ignore his political leanings. For people wondering why Red Hawk shits on Ludi: Ludi cheats and tries to act like he doesn't. It's that simple.

Though I agree with @gabri-immortale, to my knowledge he doesn't push these views to hard on YT. He might go on the occasional rant in streams though.

@@SereglothIV Ha, here's the weird thing. Zlewikk is easier for me to follow. The problem isn't Laith's accent, it's that he seems to murmur at a high rate, and that's where I get in trouble. Is it just me?
@@hoi-polloi1863 Zlewikk was the first youtuber that got recommended to me back when I started playing EU4. But I returned to him some time later, armed with more knowledge of the game, and now I love watching his videos, especially MP stuff.
AFAIK reddit has beef with ludi because of some cheating allegations or more specifically, since almost all eu4 yters either use the console or bird sometimes, the beef is about him denying doing it despite his gamestate being literally impossible without(he annexed a nation that takes more than 100%ws at the beginning of a game was one thing i have heard but not verified). If you watch him for his personality or history tidbits this doesnt matter but i do understand that some people are annoyed at videos which appear to be useful nation guides for new players but may literally be impossible.

I'm usually a guy that likes to play a game for hours frequently everyday until I get bored of it and go on to play something else until, at least, 6 to 12 or so months later I return to that same first game mentioned. But I have to say that you're the BEST EU4 motivational player EVER Hawk! Because of your EU4 videos. They always make me want to play it everyday by picking a random nation and go for achievements. Which really says something! The only two times I've not play EU4 for a month were when I was in the finals of one of my years in college and when I actually did the Three mountains achivement who was really tedious and tiresome. Thank you for your motivational videos Hawk! Keep up the good work!
I remember Arumba, Quill18 (follow him for Dwarf Fortress stuff) and, obviously, DDRJake. Who imho is still the GOAT. Now I mainly follow Zlewikk and RH. I unfortunately agree with many comments about Ludi... he's a little too much.
Yeah the lack of DDRJake love was heartbreaking. Maybe I’m just old, but I remember when he stopped streaming as much specifically to go work for Paradox . Like, can’t get more influential as a UA-camr than that. His three mountains run was my first real introduction to how amazing this game could be
I guess the „schnappledoodeling“ with regard to „L.“ is a reference to his in my humble opinion recently (EU5 videos) dreadfully annoying overuse of his favorite word „schnapps“, with „schnapps“ this, „schnapps“ that, schnapps, schnapps, schnapps… blahblahblah… BLERRCH!!! (Sorry.)
He was really fun on the Paradox dev clash when he worked there. I don't know if there was bad blood, because he pretty much completely dropped the game when he left.
Tbf DDRJake hasn't done anything EU4 in like 6-7 years so it's easy to see why recent posts don't know about him. On top of that he was never an educational guy but rather just played for fun.
Is that in his Hisn Kayfa run? xD Feel like it's in most of his videos when he's playing in that area tho but there's one where it's really prevalent throughout, laughed a lot watching that video but don't remember which one it is hahah 🤣
I just want to say something. I played EU IV for the first time one year or something after it came out. I knew nothing, I won with the Ottomans and Russia. I could not win with anyone else. Left the game. Had no clue. I left the game for some years and then came back around 2017-2018. I tried to become better. But I encountered a problem. Most creators just showed off what they could do or just offered general knowledge related to the game. The strategy guides and the opening strategies that almost all of them offered were...not working. They either forgot (or even worse purposefully left out) crucial pieces of information, failed to state anything about loans and their management, they never mentioned what patch those guides were about, they always seemed to get the best case scenario... The biggest example was the Mamluks. 9/10 guides around that time suggested a "No CV" war against Byzantium and then supposedly you cut the Ottomans out and you were stronger than them and... Naaah, it did not work. Byzantium merc'd up the wazoos and that coupled with how fortified Constantinople was, meant years of war. And the Ottomans always declared war sooner if you went to war with Byzantium. That effectively meant that they either attacked Byzantium AND you while you were at war, or that they attacked Byzantium a little bit after it became your vassal, or they just attacked you to take Constantinople. In all cases, you had lost a fair bit of your army and it was really-really hard to deal with the Ottomans. Plus your stability sucked and you already had war fatigue. Of course, no guide gave any instructions on how to fight the ottomans under those conditions because as far as the creators saw it "That didn't happen". Anyhow, I remember seeing a random post somewhere that actually worked. Attack the beyliks, wait for the ottomans to go against byzantium and then strike them and cut them off from Arabia and the rest of Asia. I was hesitant to return to the game after that. I left it for some years and came back around 2021-2022. Thankfully the new breed of creators was A LOT better. They explained what they did, they mentioned all aspects of the strategy, they did not shy away from noting weak points of their strategies and most importantly... Their strategies worked. Mamluks quick conquest of Byzantium? It works. Byzantium fending off the Ottomans with mercenaries? That works too. France dominating the HRE? It can be done. England recreating the Angevin Empire? Sure. Russia conquering the world in less than a century? Sure. TheRedHawk is one of those new creators
I'm the Croshed from 18:35 I'm 26 y/o but really even if I know how to play that country I watch your videos. Even after 3000 hours I need to see what you do as that nation lol
Ludi really shows how hard it is to gain reputation and how easy it is to lose it. I know he's been remaking himself the last year or two, but he has long way to go to regain the respect he once had. I don't have anything against him now, but there is always a cost to ones actions
@@kaisermosh4057 For example in a guide for Florence he cheated himself to have 100 army tradition. You know how Red Hawk disinherited that 6/6/6 heir to make his game more representative for the usual player? This is the opposite end of that spectrum.

Reddit loves to hate Ludi. You are not a cool kid there if you are not bashing him. Personally, I like most of his vids but of course I like a bunch of others (Redhawk included).
This is true. I follow his guides in my early EU4 days and I got really better. In EU4 you can't perfectly replicate things in a guide so I don't find his cheating that bad as he doesn't really does outrageous things with it. Nowdays I don't watch him anymore. Not because of he cheat, but because I can't stand the cringe anymore.
Yeah he's way overhated. He does get a little annoying if you watch a lot of his videos at once, but a lot of his guides are actually superb. I honestly think I learned more from him in the first 500 hours than any other channel. The cheating stuff really sucks though.
@IoanCenturion I mean does it suck who honestly cares at all. Doesn't seem like he's cheating anymore. People are honestly acting like he committed a genocide for maybe cheating.
@@connorsteffey5898 Yeah, he cheated for a video, it's not like he won a competition thanks to it or something. Most of his videos are not hard to replicate TBH.

He's right up there with you and laith in the comedy department, skill wise idk but isn't that what the Para Bellum channel is all about? I'd like to see him against the best.. I'd like to see you and laith compete more as well! :D I did comment in that subreddit on a post a while back recommending you and your guides to a beginner asking who to watch. I gave you a very good glazing, your guides are my go to guides and from what I remember, he was having the very same issues with the other eu4 youtuber guides, like not being able to watch them and picking up everything from them and he did give me an upvote and commented about how your guides are very easy on the ears and easy to follow! Cheers! (and also thank you very much for making me feel like I didn't waste a lot of money getting this game and every subsequent dlc, hardly played it for the first few years then found a few small eu4 content channels but very dedicated and releasing content like no tomorrow and now I have over 1300 hours in-game.) I was a very hardcore hoi4 player and felt like eu4 was overly complicated.. Not anymore! Have barely touched hoi4 since putting some effort in to learning to play eu4. Ludi, Quarbit, Zlewikk and then finally you are mostly to thank for making it easier and fun at the same time!. Still learning tho! Very much appreciated brother! 😁
Seconding that Golem is worth a watch: I don't think his videos are quite as polished as the likes of Zlewikk, pun fully intended, but his dry sense of humour is absolutely on point.
I thought it would be a low effort video that wouldn't introduce anything of value to my life. I was wrong. I learned about Stellaris UI font mod. I've never really noticed that you had a different font in your videos, but man do I hate the default EU4 font. Yet somehow I've never thought of modding it. I felt like changing the font to a more modern one would ruin immersion, but the one you use actually looks so good.
@@cinnanyan I'm one of the people who absolutely despise and cringe over his V-tuber thing, but I just try to ignore it for the most part. I like Quarbit's energy, his attitude, his content. I don't like his avatar one bit but I still like watching his videos nonetheless.
The guy who said Laith was too chaotic for him to enjoy, same. He seems kinda funny, but also like a jack russell terrier with adhd, and I think it’s just too unconventional for my taste. Obviously, Hawk is my favorite, but I found Quarbit from his trade guide and enjoy his style too, though I have to be careful because I tend to only have time to watch things when I’m feeding my infant these days, and the hormones released during that process make me prone to passing out. Quarbit’s practically EU4 ASMR to a breastfeeding mama. Ludi is funny too. Haven’t really tried any others beyond the 4 mentioned here, though I’m always willing to give views to other EU4 yters if anyone has suggestions.
I had a similar experience with Laith. When I was just learning the game, he seemed like a chaotic guy who has no idea what he's doing and just creates a low effort content with little informative value. But now that I know the game well and don't focus on learning anymore, he's actually one of my favourites to watch for pure entertainment. And he plays a lot of unique scenarios, as opposed to the big countries everyone covers. I like Hawk's A to Z and Releseables for the same reason. As for Quarbit, as a straight heterosexual male, I can totally relate to what you say. Quarbit's voice is just something else 😅
As both somewhat of a beginner and casual player, i would say the thing i noticed when looking for "good" content is that it's kinda hard to find newer videos that actually explain the basics. Most "guides" really aren't useful to someone who struggles with their first year of game time. The way i see it is because the game is 10 years old and people have the basics down and can run "the usual" in their sleep. So you just point out the things that stick out and then cut the video around that aspect, leaving out most of the actual basics and explanations that would be necessary to follow the ideas presented in the video. I haven't found a one-stop-shop that is even close to being up-to-date and remotely comprehensive; It's more of a hopping between multiple resources like vids, the wiki and reddit etc. Not complaining though, after all how many new players pick up a 10 year old game and search for the very basics ? At this point the audience might be quite slim. Very much looking forward to EU5. I fully expect to be some more fundamental knowledge building going on and i aim to be in a frontseat this time.
Budgemonk has said some pretty bad stuff and has gone on some really weird rants. I remember a stream where he got baited into talking about WW2, and he went off how it was "An American war of aggression" or something like that. It was a weird thing and turned me off permanently. He's also just said some weird and not cool stuff, so I don't blame Hawk for not saying his name.
Don't know why you'd think there'd be that much negativity out there. I've been watching since the AI Observation videos era and the only criticism I really had was not liking the intentional nation ruining at the end of the early A to Z videos, but that's been a nonissue for a while now.
Let's try a classification... The Playmaker: break the game Red hawk: highly detailed start Zlewikk, The Student: mathematics Laith: guides on 2x pitch Ludi: adapt, conquer, dominate, kill (someone should keep an eye on him... 😂) Quarbit, Golem, Cool bonobo: twisted and funny things
I remember MarcoAntonio being one of the better players back in the day, watching him and DDRJake was always wild. To think Wealth of Nations when I started was a decade ago 😥
Don't worry Red Hawk, we never watched you for your ability at the game or even the guides (which may not be exactly optimal), we watched because of you. Now, this might sound offensive, but it's actually a good thing and in time you will realise.
about the children thing it happens to me a lot with edited videos from all paradox interactive youtubers. for me specifically, it's the quick cuts. I've never been on tiktok and never went on vine. when the camera/scene cuts every five seconds I can't watch the video. i can't watch any ludi videos and, even though I like laith, it's not easy to watch laith's videos. tommy (hoi4) has an editor and he never goes on his own youtube so he might not even know this, but his main channel is pretty bad about it. I never watch those but I watch the long-ass vods from his twitch streams every time a new one comes out.
The fact that I am halfway through the video and DDR Jake hasn’t been mentioned once is a travesty. I know it’s been a while since he played but cmon man, he’s a legend.
Could have been worse 😂 anyway, check out Golem, he is very very good and competent, definetely one of my must watch, along with TheStudent and ThePlaymaker! Nice video
I'm not 100% up to date on it so I'm sure someone else can explain it better, but my understanding is that he's used cheats in the past without being upfront about it. That's the main reason many don't like him. Personally, I just hate that it feels like 90% of his content now is just going over EU5 dev diaries, that's my main problem with him atm
shnubildiask can be annoying. he loves talking really highly about his abilities. Consistently does the same guide. i liked watching him, but eventually it just got really repetitive. And then there is cheating.
Cringe and goofy wouldn't get him much flak. He got flak over the years because he makes "HOW TO BEAT OTTOMANS BY 1448 WITH NO A.E" vids and then proceeds to cheat during the video. It's simply misleading. If he just stuck to goofy vids meant purely for entertainment and with no desire to brag, it'd be perfectly fine (for Reddit-tier humour).
I enjoy his vids, but some people find him annoying, and he's been caught faking a couple of his videos (full amazing a 100+ WS country without having any modifiers to help with that, refusing to share the save file, stuff like that)
he was actually the first eu4 youtuber i watched way back in like 2017, then after a couple months he went on a small tirade that climate change isn't real and i was like 🤨

Is there some drama with BudgetMonk or is it just his playstyle that isn't your thing? Edit: disregard, I read a few comments, had no idea (apparently political stuff)
Off the top of my head, the best eu4 UA-camrs outside the established names like Hawk, Laith, Ludi etc have to be: Cool Bonobo Golem StrategySphere TheChairman Lemoncake Playmaker Also there’s that fairly old video of the two guys playing co op on Byzantium which rarely gets mentioned in eu4 circles but it’s the funniest eu4 video I’ve ever seen. I can’t remember the name of the channel who made it but if someone remembers it here, let me know.
Tax dev is insanely underrated People act like deving tax is a move only made by the anti-christ but that's simply untrue. Tax especially in the age of discovery will be your highest form of income because you haven't had a chance take your surrounding trade nodes to funnel trade into your home node. Like sure tax scales poorly but that assumes that all your games will get to 1600 where trade is almost definitely better. People that say tax scales poorly don't fully understand how economy works early game. There's a reason the tax edict at tier 3 is quite popular, it can create huge snowballing potential.
the problem i see is that early game ADM mana is by far the most valuable. but generally speaking if you have points sitting around just dev don´t sweet it most of us dont play opm 1 faith on hard difficulty. nor do we the play elite level multiplayer lobbys. it really isn't that relevant.
@@oKnuTo I mean mana is such a bad system imo because unless you’re doing a massive amount of blobbing you’re gonna have excess points. Agree to both!
He makes the craziest videos haha absolutely genius of an EU4 player
A couple notes:
* Red Hawk is a great EU4 teacher, and is not afraid to show failures and how to recover from bad situations, nice friendly guy!
* Ludi has cringe moments but is really cheerful & entertaining and I think he'd be fun to meet in person
* Laith has great manic energy; I wish I could understand what he's saying when he starts to talk fast
* TheStudent is just ... elegant. Watch him more!
* Chewy is like your cool uncle that lets you sneak a sip of his beer
* Whatever happened to The Chaotic Austrian and Pravus?
* I love Playmaker, but his style doesn't work for me... all the nation/culture/religion-flipping breaks my RP immersion
i like ludi's cringe moments i feel like they make his videos funnier
If you can't understand Laith, I'd like to know how you feel watching Zlewikk 😅
@@SereglothIV Ha, here's the weird thing. Zlewikk is easier for me to follow. The problem isn't Laith's accent, it's that he seems to murmur at a high rate, and that's where I get in trouble. Is it just me?
@@hoi-polloi1863 Zlewikk was the first youtuber that got recommended to me back when I started playing EU4. I didn't learn shit from his videos, both clicking and talking really fast with his 'unique' accent 😅 (btw. I'm Polish too) There are so many reasons why he isn't beginner friendly.
If you watch him for his personality or history tidbits this doesnt matter but i do understand that some people are annoyed at videos which appear to be useful nation guides for new players but may literally be impossible.
man now i cant wait for the ismail RP-stream. hawk starting out as ardabil in a fancy costume forming persia. the story writes itself.
Maybe as a Subscriber milestone? Or an April fools video? I'd watch it.
Would someone be able to tell me what his beef with BudgetMonk is? Any context?
Would be interesting to know, thanks!

BudgetMonk went on a tirade about white Christians are supreme, WWII was "an American war of aggression", etc. and the rest of the EU4 community (Red Hawk included) doesn’t like to acknowledge him because of it.

@@grimgorironside look if you think America is wrong for stopping Germany in World War II then you’re just gonna have to get used to the fact that nobody’s gonna like you.
You, Ludi and Chewy have unironically improved a lot my English in all these years
Schnappledooping isn’t a word; just in case 😊. For real tho, that’s cool, and also enjoy those guys.
I completely forgot Budgetmonk existed, it didnt click on me on his shift to his culture war content.
Yeah... I do like me a good culture war from time to time, but there are good ways to be a conservative, and "face-palmy" ways.
I was wondering why he kept avoiding saying his name
I remember Arumba, Quill18 (follow him for Dwarf Fortress stuff) and, obviously, DDRJake. Who imho is still the GOAT.
Now I mainly follow Zlewikk and RH. I unfortunately agree with many comments about Ludi... he's a little too much.
Did Jake ever play EU4? I mostly remember him from playing Cataclysm DDA
@@Abestar123 He played A LOT of EU4, I think the vids are still on his channel, pretty sure he did 3 Mountains achievement etc.
@@Abestar123 He not only played it. He became the game director for a while.
Yeah the lack of DDRJake love was heartbreaking. Maybe I’m just old, but I remember when he stopped streaming as much specifically to go work for Paradox . Like, can’t get more influential as a UA-camr than that. His three mountains run was my first real introduction to how amazing this game could be
Definitely shipping the @TheRedHawk and Laith bromance. Love their collaborative content. Parabellum has been great competitive EU4 content
(Sorry.)
Ludi lost me when he gave up on "Ave, Legion!" I can handle a Prussia obsession if it's nicely balanced with a (much more useful!) Rome obsession.
There’s an extreme lack of DDRJake mentioned on the subreddit
I loved some of his old series like Kalahandi and Imerina, but he hasn't posted EU4 content in ages, I think?
The prome->rome streams hnnggg
Peak eu4 content: OPM Ming into Minghals
I also wanted to mention the Playmaker. He has a calm voice and is doing cool min maxing stuff for more advanced players.
17:40 I really like Golem and his "Ottomanski" totally recommended
Golem's real good, definitely my fav smaller creator
Is that in his Hisn Kayfa run? xD Feel like it's in most of his videos when he's playing in that area tho but there's one where it's really prevalent throughout, laughed a lot watching that video but don't remember which one it is hahah 🤣
Defiantly agree golem is cool.
I love the videos man. Nice easy watching . Always enjoy a to z and releasables, and i usually try whatever nation you do a guide for
I miss Radio Res, he was the major person I watched in my earlier eu4 days
Ludi really shows how hard it is to gain reputation and how easy it is to lose it. I know he's been remaking himself the last year or two, but he has long way to go to regain the respect he once had. I don't have anything against him now, but there is always a cost to ones actions

The Ludi hate on this video goes crasy the only bad thing I remember Ludi doing was the Uzbek incident

This video reminded me of finding EU4 through Quill18 and TheSolarGamer (I watched their Civ videos first and then discovered EU4). After that, I got into Arumba and Shenryyr's TacTeam videos and the Arumba, Quill, Mathas and Northerlion MP games

I did comment in that subreddit on a post a while back recommending you and your guides to a beginner asking who to watch.
@12:00 Hawk, my guy, I need that Ottawa guide...
5:00 whoa whoa there with the German salute, take it easy.
Damn, I like Ludi and Quarbit, Reddit really gonna Reddit
I think they just don't like Quarbit because of the whole V-tuber thing.
Your guides are not meant for beginners but for novices. They are great guides that I use for nations I haven't played yet.
Hawk chose whatever reddit thread, was best, for him.
A to Z and releasables are the two best EU4 series, but I laugh every time you say "Perrrful"
You deserve all the praise Red Hawk
Also this entire video was Red Hawk self promoting himself.

Don't know why you'd think there'd be that much negativity out there. I've been watching since the AI Observation videos era and the only criticism I really had was not liking the intentional nation ruining at the end of the early A to Z videos, but that's been a nonissue for a while now.
I forgot he used to do that. Yeah, I agree.
Let's try a classification...
The Playmaker: break the game
Red hawk: highly detailed start
Zlewikk, The Student: mathematics
Laith: guides on 2x pitch
Ludi: adapt, conquer, dominate, kill (someone should keep an eye on him... 😂)
Quarbit, Golem, Cool bonobo: twisted and funny things
I also like The Chairman cause he's really the only I know of who completes the mission trees in "Paradox's vision" which I find very interesting
add lamoncake to mathematics
Poiuymew: Modded content in total overhaul mods like Anbennar and MEIOU and Taxes
I remember MarcoAntonio being one of the better players back in the day, watching him and DDRJake was always wild. To think Wealth of Nations when I started was a decade ago 😥
9:18 what happened with budgetmonk? Haven’t read that name in years
Don't worry Red Hawk, we never watched you for your ability at the game or even the guides (which may not be exactly optimal), we watched because of you.
I wish you had guides on other pdx games too i think their community lacks good guides
Nice video
Why all the hate on Ludi? yeah he's goofy and cringe, but he's entertaining.
He has the same three 'jokes' over and over, he's repetitive
shnubildiask can be annoying. he loves talking really highly about his abilities.
I enjoy his vids, but some people find him annoying, and he's been caught faking a couple of his videos (full amazing a 100+ WS country without having any modifiers to help with that, refusing to share the save file, stuff like that)
2024 version of "googling yourself"

Tax dev is insanely underrated
People act like deving tax is a move only made by the anti-christ but that's simply untrue.
Releasing vassals and conquering their cores helps massively with getting rid of the adm issues you have too. Idk I just feel like people shit on it too much and it’s clearly giving the wrong idea to players
