- Jesse’s back in the shed for PART 2 of the big GU DIY builds series!

Today marks a special moment for Jesse, as he’s getting very close to putting the GU on four wheels!
This time we’re finishing up the chassis, putting the diffs back together, assembling the lockers, putting the brakes on, and adding the final touches to the M57 BMW motor and gearbox.
If Jesse plays his cards right, the cab will FINALLY go back down onto the chassis for one last time, but there’s a lot of work to go!
Many hours are going into this, but it’ll be so worth it for that first drive out of the shed! So, sit back, grab something with a kick in it because this is a good one!

You will make the M57 engine famous on patrol in Australia. I don't know how often M57s are used in Australia, but I can tell you that in Europe, they are crazy about them, especially in Romania, Poland. greetings from Romania! jesse good driver. MANNNN! I was excited to see the body coming down! Can just imagine how you felt ... the look on your face summed it. Great job, she's looking beautiful. Amazing what a bit of freshening up and some paint can do to old parts. Way to go .... now just need Graham to do the same to his old girl.
I'm 25 and a massive Toyota fan but Jess totally changed my perspective with the way he drives darrol.
I’m for the USA and love seeing the vehicles y’all decide to build and how they are built.. slight lift good suspension and a slightly bigger tire and then send them to the moon….. can’t wait to see this rig on the trails

3 things I’ve taken from this video
1-This will be one of Australia’s best and most used Gu’s.
2-Jesse is an encyclopaedia about patrols and is doing this all off the back of his hand
3-I’m never getting in a car with Jesse because I’ve seen him use the ugga dugga as a torque spec too many times in this video
Rattle gun was set on low mate everything was Tourqued to specs after the initial do you with the gun

Hey Jesse, quick tip with the M57. If it's got the original stainless manifold, chances are it's cracked in several places. For a couple of hundred $$$ you can buy a cast iron kit from China that bolts straight on, kit comes with everything you need and it works well. I had to do it to my E53 X5 with the M57D30, makes a big difference. Also, check the PCV valve, there's two types. The cyclonic type is the later type, it works much better. I have a spare one here that I'd happily send to you if you want to replace yours.
And HDI Tuning in the UK can chase 300hp and over 600nm of torque out of these with a stock motor, and a 6HP behind them, they are quite bulletproof if they've been looked after.
Give me a yell if you ever need any tips, tricks or advice on the engine or trans.
I have been meaning to ask but wasnt sure if this build is going to be 4x4 or 4x2? if you can tell us that would be great.

@@qubadmalik1 Thought someone else would've answered by now, but you'd think the front diff going in, complete with locker, would be a big hint? If that's not enough, the transfer case has also been installed....... Yes it'll be 4WD.

Hey Jesse, you and the boys should collaborate together and come to a agreement on a 4wd to build from chassis up and put it against each of your chosen cars, but film the whole process, great build tho mate, can’t wait to see it done 🍺🍺

Whst an excellent conversion. I have an X5 3lt turbo diesel and what a motor. I also have a gen 5 Iveco Daily 4x4 crew cab. Just love it but in the back of my mind when the unit need an engine freshen up I reacon a BMW 3.OL twin turbo diesel in the Iveco would be the Ducks Guts.

In Europe GU M57 swaps are pretty common, since they don't get any 4.2 version, just the shitty ZD30 and RD28, and their builds are actually nuts, definitely recommend checking some of them out on YT.

wow, some sketch moments when you rigged the powertrain into the frame.. that critical angle loading the tie down strap had me worried mate! very cool build, I love watching the restoration process and breathing new life into a legendary ride.. great job

Tip for anyone cutting the sump, use a long recipro blade can be done in just 2 cuts, and about 10 minutes.
Hell Yea Jesse! I've built a few trucks and you deff know what your doing I've actually learned something I didn't know abt building the diff with the locker! A 03 F250 superduty has a limit slip I never had to mess with but I want a air locker! Glad they finally added you to the team as well! It's deff helping make the videos alot better! Shauno and Graham!!!!!! It's a testament to the show from when it was Ruthy! Having a team that know what they are doing and can do basically any job or problem solving! To get where your going but have fun wheeling crazy tracks! On top of it's hilarious watching you shauno and Jock messing with each other! Congrats man you've earned this! Been enjoying this build series. A budget build series of Darryl the budget Patrol would be interesting. A lift kit, lockers, auto gearbox, and EFI conversion, would make it even more capable in many tough tracks.

100% the 90 series prado are so underrated, i took my 97 prado off my dad 270,000 KM on it ive kept it completely stock its gotten me through Tassys most hardest tracks, westen aussies hardest Tracks Jervis bay hardest tracks mate its tooken me everywhere id love to see one of the boys buy one and do it up.
