    In my opinion older Pajeros for the sub 5k mark are amazing, I bought a gen 2 Paj from 2000 for 3.5 thousand and its taken me all the way from the bottom of Taz to the Daintree and back without missing a beat. Couldn't recommend them more! She now has 435,000km on the clock too.

      @dirtydenzal545 funny that. No rot on mine. Chassis is kept treated. It's basic 4wd maintenance.
      Only land rovers are so bad that they actually have a market for half chassis, quarter chassis, 5/8 chassis, 9/32 chassis and actually abundantly available new boot floors and bulkheads. 😂😂😂.
      Done enough welding for mates with all kinds of 4x4. The majority on discoveries.

    Thanks for the Pajero love there fellas, my 12yr old Autistic son got me into watching you guys, we watch your shows every morning before school. I haven't been wheeling in years, got an 89 Pajero, limited edition with suspension seats, that's been sitting in the driveway for 6yrs, we are going to rebuild it, and get out there. Your mention of the Pajero, made his day. Thanks guys.

      @punk46664 they weren't common, only a few of the top of the line models had them in the late 80's, mine is a limited edition, seats are great on corrugations and rough roads, meant you could have tougher suspension

      @darrenplane3955 My heads just clicked. They had suspension seats in some of the Delicas, I believe, so it would make sense if they used the same ones.

    Picked up my first 4WD about 6 weeks ago, a 2011 NT Pajero RX for $19k with 210000km. The thing in immaculate, I'm the 3rd owner, never been offroad, FULL service history and basically very well looked after. It's my weekender and have done over 1200km in that 6 weeks. It's now got some Maxxis RAZR AT811's and bash plates fitted. I have a diff breather kit to fit soon as well as a rear bash plate to protect the rear bar. Once I sell my VN SS I plan on a 2" lift, roof rack and a rear locker. It'll tow a small tinny perfectly when I get one as well. I've done some wicked stuff and been to some cool places in it that I wouldn't have been able to without a 4WD. There's a lot more wheeling, camping and fishing in my future. Thanks for the great content as I have learnt a lot from you guys. Keep up the great work lads 👌👌👌

    For under 10k you can’t go wrong with an SQ Grand Vitara, I recently bought a V6 one and it’s been amazing. Comes with a real 4wd system. Not a silly AWD. Strong, reliable and heaps of fun. Very smooth on the road but also amazing in the dunes and on the beach.

    • @Toby3610
      @Toby3610 7 днів тому

      I’m new into the 4wd scene. I have a Grand Vitara (2016 2.4 petrol). My brother was trying to teach me how to recover from sand. We were on the beach and it was a low ish tide. Couldn’t get bogged. My brother was a bit miffed. We ended up digging a hole and rolling it into. We fixed the beach up after. It was a funny moment. Another young guy was on the beach and came up to ask us what was going on and my brother explained what was happening and he was right into 4wd and was surprised at how well it handled. Only issue is it sits a bit low. Since then getting on and off the beach with lot’s of ruts and holes it was hitting under the car. While my brothers lifted prado was right my Vitara struggled. But it handles well. It’s light and pretty agile. Whereas my brother’s prado is heavier, has way more lift and power.
      This year it’s getting new suspension and a small lift, new tyres, recovery points and a bash plate. It works as a good daily driver too.

    I bought the Green Landcruiser that Jesse recommended a few months ago from Grays online. They said the engine was good to go but I’ve had to do a complete rebuild and spent way too much on it. The block was “bent like a banana” when stripped. Piston rings bored too big. Blown head gasket. Power steering was dead etc etc etc. what a lemon. Grays were so terrible to deal with as well. If I had known I needed to spend over $45,000 to fix it up to be drivable I never would have bought it. Not a great recommendation Jesse at all!

    Earlier this year I was at the auctions in Perth bidding on a Ford Everest that ended up way out of my price range. I saw an ex Metronet 2019 Holden Colorado LT with canopy, drawers and canvas seat covers. 130,000km and never been offroad. Picked it up for $22,500 and have never looked back. Great car on and off the road, and left me some $ for a few choice upgrades.

I bought a brand new head on eBay listed for $1000. I joined eBay plus which gave me a $180. Discount so paid $820 for it. Sub 30k you can get yourself into a 2017-2019 QE Pajero Sport with sub 140km on it. Basically just an MR Triton in a wagon format… with the 2.4L they’re not the best towing rig but they respond very well to a throttle controller, heap of after market gear / accessories for them available, cheap to run, cheap to service and being that the newer QF is effectively the same car there are heaps of parts available. Something to watch out for, intercooler hoses are known to split, easy enough to replace for a silicone upgrade. Super Select 2 4wd system gets even the most dim-whited wheeler pretty well anywhere. Slightly smaller than the OG Paj, but will still carry a wife and couple of Rugrats in comfort and will tow a sub 2.0t (loaded) camper comfortably.

    They're cheaper to buy, cheaper to run, loads of power and sound awesome. Plus, if you find a nice LX470, it's literally the same car with a nicer interior, for even LESS money because it doesn't have a Toyota badge.

    A few years ago I picked up a lwb Suzuki sierra body for $500 then we got a rust bucket swb tin top sierra for $500 for all the running gear and a chassis off of a mate. That’s my build now and it’s coming along nicely

    Bought a 2012 triton for 15k (coming off the back of covid prices) with 280,000KMs, and it had just had the timing belt done, mew tyres fitted, and a 12 month warranty

    picked up an immaculate 1992 rv troopy with the 1fz-fe in it for only 18k during peak covid times, have had the car for 3 years now and half way around Australia car has not missed a beat. actually has power versus the 1hz and the difference in fuel use is only 2-3L per 100 different for a similarly set up car being driven the same.
