I was in the premiere chat of this video and said I will run out of excuses to make my first zine and so I did! I made a mini zine last night about putting off making my first zine. 😅
i love that even though "zines" has been used by folks to name their fully bulk-printed and professionally bound art books - the "zine" essence cannot be co-opted because it's ultimately about what you can do with what you have + you just wanna say something by yourself or with your friends/community - and your video reminded me of that, thank you!!!
lately i decided to take part in a butchfemme zine (beloved zine) for it's third issue titled "flesh" and i submitted a short story! i really loved the idea of a zine and even though i won't be able to hold it in my own hands because i cant afford the printed version, i decided to make my own zine just now. ive binged some of your videos bc youtube seemed to be yelling ZINEEEE MAKE A ZINE at me with it's recommendations and honestly - thank god it did! i can't decide between a fanzine about "bones and all" and "the bastard son and the devil himself". maybe i'll just do both :) im not very artistically talented but if i trace reference photos and just do some doodles i should be fine haha a zine about a music album or a specific musician also sounds fun but i'll focus on my initial ideas for now because those are the two things im so fixated on atm! great video btw!!

Ok but I have this niche manga character that I like a "very normal" amount, and this video gave me the excuse to make a fanzine visually explaining all the aspects that I love about them. II'll get to that once I have some free time! 've already started brainstorming the formatting and everything! ✨

And here I am making zines for all the little nich things I would only save to a pinterest board and actually making them into something to share physically with people! It makes me really happy, and some I've met that get excited to read the new ones I bring with me places! I'm so inspired! I have so many little niche ideas that I could turn into zines! A lot of them are related stuff from star trek to being queer, trans, AFAB non-binary person of color and other little miscellaneous things in between!
I’m a few decades older than you and this video inspired me to create a zine to replace my business cards. I’ve heard of Zines but really never “got” what they were till finding your channel. I started a new business a little over 5 years ago and what I do isn’t easily described (I’m a Fractional CEO - everyone reading this probably had to look it up🤣). HOWEVER… a Zine is the remedy. I can create one with QR codes to my websites, videos and other info. Business cards get trashed as soon as people get back to their office, but a Zine has helpful info. I’m super inspired. Thank you!

I did a treatment for depression that worked great but came with a cost. So it comes with some possibly short term memory loss. -but there’s a lot missing... I may have to do it again because reasons. I want to make zines of memories, and moments and formative experiences that I’m terrified to lose. I didn’t know how to preserve them and then I saw this. I just wanted to say thank you Zine Lady! You’re cool af and I appreciate you. I dunno if you can fathom how grateful and relieved I am to be excited and able to do it and I’m literally gonna start now. -but like it’s a lot. You help people save themselves maybe. One memory at a time you inspired me to save me in case I forget. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

A zine might actually be a good way to finally share some texts about places in my hometown that I wrote for literature class. Only my teacher has properly seen them and I don't think she appreciates them. I don't know if anyone else will, but I guess it's worth trying out.

I’m 50 and started a penpal zine in the late ‘80s - but I was overwhelmed with requests from prisons - as a young teen I hadn’t thought ahead, was incredibly sheltered and yes, autistic 😁 so I kind of tiptoed away awkwardly 🤪 this is great

Zines are something I'd love to try but I'm still unsure about what to make them about. I have some major special interests but for a zine, I'd like to try something that I like but may not the the first thing that comes to my head. One thing I like to think about from time to time is how physics and time are so directly linked--our perception of time is, truly, an illusion, or at least incredibly malleable. I'm not an physicist by any means but it's cool.

I'd like to make a zine for some tabletop RPG characters from a homebrew D&D campaign, and I'd probably use as reference free drawing guides from the JP Coovert channel for drawing simple characters and gear.
I make zines, and your right I did click on for inspo. I make them differently in a homemade scrapbook kinda way and instead of using normal paper I glue it onto ribbon and make it fold

I've been marathoning your videos and they have been very freeing. The first time I encountered the term "zine" was because of the application based fan project "art books" i've seen floating around online (not sure if there's a better way to describe them) -- which do end up really cool while being intimidating/hard to get into due to the skill level involved. But your video cleared up a lot of stuff. It reminded of the times I made little booklets when I was younger, and just how freeing creating is. While I don't have anything specific in mind right now, I'm really excited by all the possibilities (plus it's been nice sewing together little booklets for me to use) Thanks for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm!

Time to finally write that extremely in-depth essay about why one of my favourite characters is Peak Autism using literary analysis and turn that into a zine with accompanying images because why not? (Ok I know why not, it’s because I already have so much material despite his minuscule amount of canonical screentime it would end up being the length of a master’s thesis but we don’t talk about that. *shhhhh*)

It’s called Forever Shelf because these are the books I never get rid of. It’s not printed yet but it’s gonna come with a bookmark (I learned to make bookmark tassels for this!)

Yes! There is a sub genre called fanzines where you can make zines like that. Either a fanzine about something you’re a fan of, or you can make up your own stories and self publish them! Remember, zines can be about ANYTHING at all. Ive seen a bunch of artist I watch make a zine. And ive always wanted to do that but I dont want to do it in a "normal" way. I have a bunch of stickers usually for decorating sketchbooks. There avatar the air binder, Pokémon, goth and horror and food and flowers. I plan on getting fall and halloween stickers too. I want take my new ohuhu sketchbook and markere have been becoming one of my new favorite tools. I want to stuff the pages with all the stickers and trace the outter part of the stickers with markere with colors in the sticker and using gel pens to outline and for adding details. I want it do it as like a personal project to start feeling like sketchbooks are more freeing than having it feel like a chore or a place where i can't mess up or just relax ans expirement with either. ❤❤

It can be as simple as making it and then giving them to your friends, donating your copies to a local library, or just leaving them around town for people to find :) Even googling “zine fests near me” or zine workshops in your city may be all you need. I personally like following zine makers on Instagram by searching the #zine hashtag and asking them if they’d like to trade :) I have lots of videos about zines and share my process or sharing zines if you’d like to check em out too. Usually the cover title is pretty 18+ and gives it away that it’s NSW in my experience haha I have a few myself and I personally like to add a warning bc lots of kids can be drawn to zines and I don’t wanna traumatize them by accident 🤣

I've heard of zines before but today it struck me. i wanted to know more. now I need to make them. I'm always making things, art, writing, journaling. I've wanted to make more article-based things. but nothing was creative enough. and blogs are confusing to make. now I'm like "Zines! This might be it!" now I need to find the method that works for me. so here I go down a rabbit hole
I am now realizing that unbeknownst to myself I already tried to make a kind of zine one tine already because I wanted to explain gender identity to my parrnts in comic form. I never finished it and I don't think I will, but I really want to make a zine about something else now. I might research some more or less obscure historical topic and make it about that. Or I'll just share some recipes

I’m 50 and started a penpal zine in the late ‘80s - but I was overwhelmed with requests from prisons - as a young teen I hadn’t thought ahead, was incredibly sheltered and yes, autistic 😁 so I kind of tiptoed away awkwardly 🤪 this is great

I'm a not native English speaker and I clicked to find out what is this zine and why I should want to make it. I'm now 1 minute in and I want want a zine very much
Zines are something I'd love to try but I'm still unsure about what to make them about. I have some major special interests but for a zine, I'd like to try something that I like but may not the the first thing that comes to my head. One thing I like to think about from time to time is how physics and time are so directly linked--our perception of time is, truly, an illusion, or at least incredibly malleable. I'm not an physicist by any means but it's cool.

Excellent video with lots of creative examples! 💖 I didn't have the energy to do anything artistic this weekend, so this was a calming and inspiring way to wind down tonight. I'd like to make a zine for some tabletop RPG characters from a homebrew D&D campaign, and I'd probably use as reference free drawing guides from the JP Coovert channel for drawing simple characters and gear.
I make zines, and your right I did click on for inspo. I make them differently in a homemade scrapbook kinda way and instead of using normal paper I glue it onto ribbon and make it fold

I've been marathoning your videos and they have been very freeing.
The first time I encountered the term "zine" was because of the application based fan project "art books" i've seen floating around online (not sure if there's a better way to describe them) -- which do end up really cool while being intimidating/hard to get into due to the skill level involved.
But your video cleared up a lot of stuff. It reminded of the times I made little booklets when I was younger, and just how freeing creating is. While I don't have anything specific in mind right now, I'm really excited by all the possibilities (plus it's been nice sewing together little booklets for me to use)

I've always had stupid little ideas in my head for comics or short stories. Mostly about fanfiction... but do you think its possible to make zines on fanfiction? Its a bit far stretched but I'm willing to give it a shot!
Yes! There is a sub genre called fanzines where you can make zines like that. Either a fanzine about something you’re a fan of, or you can make up your own stories and self publish them! Remember, zines can be about ANYTHING at all. They are so flexible for this very reason :)

Ive seen a bunch of artist I watch make a zine. And ive always wanted to do that but I dont want to do it in a "normal" way. I have a bunch of stickers usually for decorating sketchbooks. There avatar the air binder, Pokémon, goth and horror and food and flowers. I plan on getting fall and halloween stickers too. I want take my new ohuhu sketchbook and markere have been becoming one of my new favorite tools. I want to stuff the pages with all the stickers and trace the outter part of the stickers with markere with colors in the sticker and using gel pens to outline and for adding details. I want it do it as like a personal project to start feeling like sketchbooks are more freeing than having it feel like a chore or a place where i can't mess up or just relax ans expirement with either. ❤❤

I have a question about zines, because aren't you supposed to share it ? How do you do it ? How do you find people or places to share it ?
It can be as simple as making it and then giving them to your friends, donating your copies to a local library, or just leaving them around town for people to find :)
Even googling “zine fests near me” or zine workshops in your city may be all you need. I personally like following zine makers on Instagram by searching the #zine hashtag and asking them if they’d like to trade :)

Usually the cover title is pretty 18+ and gives it away that it’s NSW in my experience haha I have a few myself and I personally like to add a warning bc lots of kids can be drawn to zines and I don’t wanna traumatize them by accident 🤣

I've heard of zines before but today it struck me. i wanted to know more. now I need to make them. I'm always making things, art, writing, journaling. I've wanted to make more article-based things. but nothing was creative enough. and blogs are confusing to make. now I'm like "Zines! This might be it!" now I need to find the method that works for me. so here I go down a rabbit hole
I am now realizing that unbeknownst to myself I already tried to make a kind of zine one tine already because I wanted to explain gender identity to my parrnts in comic form. I never finished it and I don't think I will, but I really want to make a zine about something else now. I might research some more or less obscure historical topic and make it about that.

yesterday i was trying to figure out how to compile a zine digitally because thats the only format ive been familiar with through watching people create fan zines, and i came across your channel.. i had no cluue about the possibilities and how to create one physically/that was an option... im glad i found this because i learned so much from just a few videos of your channel, thank you for teaching many (including me) i ultimately went with making the zine physically because of this
