The Greatest at trick shots, dribbles ever
Yep. It's ridiculous when people say he was ahead of his time, because people cannot do what he did today!
TNT had to pick top best 60 players of all time. The judges were (Charles, Kenny the Jet Smith, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, Kevin McHale (he chose Celtic players only), and Stephen Kerr, and none of them chose the pitol. Even Ernie Johnon (who hosted) called them out on it at the end.
Pete used to make a lot of shots that are currently three-pointers in the NBA long before it was instilled. Had the 3-point line been a part of the game who knows how many points he would have scored. I don't even want to think about his possible points per game at the collegiate level.
When he scored 68 against the knicks it sure seemed like he shot a ton from three point range,if there were 3 pointers then he would have topped 100 points in that game,Many of his jump shots came from nearly half courts over the years.
@yogd4life
WOW! That makes so much more sense now. I felt like I was missing something there, thank you.
Yes.
Remember, Mount played during the same timeframe as Maravich, was a better pure shooter, and with the 3-pt line would have averaged in the mid 40s per game. And, he was on a very good team - played in the national championship game.
It was Dale Brown, who coached at LSU, who went back thru every game, and calculated from the records if the current college 3pt rule were in effect, Pete Maravich WOULD have had an career average of 13 3pt makes per game & 57 ppg career average. Bill Walton said of Maravih, "That guy was UNBELIEVABLE, what a great friend, what a great human being." See the book 'Maravich'. Great book.
@bluefukingreene Walton was, Pete retired after the 1980 season, one year before the C's won their title.
goooooeeess tooooo the fiiiinaalll rouuuuuuund
@JusssMeee444 thats a man among boys right there.
@Shadofx I would try , you know he would appreciate you coming up with new shots aswell.. remember pistol is a good example for 'THE LOVE OF THE GAME' FUN simple and easy
look at jordan, bird, majic's teammates.....pistol never had any great players around him.Every team keyed on just him the whole game, except in all star games where he showed what he did with talent around him. Tragic
Just look at Bill Walton's Interview on Pete that is posted on You Tube. It will answer everyone's questions about how many points Pete would have averaged with the three point line in effect when he played.
I think he's talking about the final shot of whisky.
Amazing. He was the best. I was at the game in Tuscaloosa whe he scored 69 points against Alabama with everybody in the building knowing he was goint to shoot the ball. A lot of those shots were beyond the colligate 3 point range.
@generatorx no doubt...do people even know that this man averaged 44 points a game in his senior year....no one will ever do that again.
i think he meant his college career, maravich's old coach or supervisor. I forgot who but they calculated all of the layups and jumpshots he took and came up with 13 3's and 57 ppg. Bill Walton mentioned it when talking about his book, it's somewhere on youtube
This was after a HORSE competition.... Not during.
@llBlackSnowl i stand corrected...i always confused greg kite with pete...dont know why.
PP would be the last person I'd ever want to play Horse with..that is if I wanted to win
@bluefukingreene 44.2 pts per game and that was his LSU Career Avg actually... and his freshmen pts don't actually count on his ncaa scoring record and he still has it by a long shot too... lol (SOPHOMORE, Junior, Seinor were only counted) according to my knowledge..
uh....wow. exciting.
@yogd4life
Dude...how would he have to make 13 threes to get from 44 - 57? That's a little over four threes to bring it up to 57.
@generatorx good point and they have gone back and looked.. Especially his College career! and he would avg i think it was 56 pts?
@Iconhulk i think youre right.....he was a man...his nba career must have been riddled with injury....i know him and walton were on a champion team of the celtics 86 i believe.
Poor Pete never realized his dream of an NBA title. He never won one with any team even playing with Bird and Walton for a couple of years.
@@mkbttn played with bird for one year (his last year) & never with Walton(all star games sure, but never during regular season . they were on different teams)
goeeeeeeeesss to the final roundddddddddddddddddddd
If you ever saw Maravich play in college you wouldn't think it was so crazy.. although 13 probably is a little high.. maybe only 9 or 10. Also Maravich was pribably more accurate from long distance than in close because the defense wasn't as tight.. so he was probably in the neighborhood of 45-50% from the modern 3pt. line..
I kinda thought 13 pg more was a little high too. But then you gotta remember college 3's are 4 feet closer than ABA/NBA 3's! So ... Possibly?
I used to practice that kind of shot all day long when I was a kid.. could never make it more than a third of the time. Wouldn't have the guts to try it in front of a crowd.
Haha it sounds like Bob Barker!
I could do that. But it's rare for me to make it in only did it once.
I do it with an arm that has a mangled elbow... practice, practice practice.
The 57 a game is complete and utter nonsense and this is from a Pistol Pete fan. Pistol made 11 FTs a game during that season. So he hit on average 16 2 point shots a game. There is NO way on Earth that he 13 a game were long jumpers that would have been 3s. It's Dale Brown and other older players being illogical.
And you thought "you" were good...
Its funny .... others say Jordan I say Pistol...
Haha good one!
