What a pass from the Pistol 60 feet under handed to Gail Goodrich.
That Maravich pass is beyond words..
Once there was player named Pistol Pete....just once.
Just once !
The Great One...
Correct! Just once...
gotta be the best full court pass of all time sorry magic and bird
BUT DAM WOW PISTOL!!!!!
1988showtime lakers nah peja S. Has that crown. Behind the back full court, on target.
It's the first time I've seen that particular pass. It was exquisite. He decided so quickly.
Thanks, you did again 1avardac in classic style. Fan from Miami.
That pass!
Walton gang won league high 58 that year but lost to Seattle in 6 when Walton only played in 2 games.
Very unfortunate and sad how Walton's injury collapsed a (til that time) great season for the Blazers. Likely would've successfully defended their title.
@slip satch Sadly, that was the case. Cause he and Lucas anchored a beautiful team to watch.
They were 50-10 then Walton goes down and misses the final 22 games. With him they could have won 65 to 68 easily. They were that good in that year following the their NBA champs.
Walton was a center Maravich was a 6.5 guard they don't compete directly against one another or didn't Pistol Pete was ahead of his time he use the three point line was only worth 2 back then a constantly made those long shots one of the first great outside shooters suffered a lot of mental problems his whole life died at 40 years old. Still holds the record for most points scored by a college player that's 50 years no one's come close.
name one nba team that has won a finals without at LEAST 2 legitimate all stars/token players. also, ncaa championships don't mean jack squat in college. hell if that was the case shane battier should have 4 or 5 by now then.
Pistol Pete…for those times when And-1 needs a fresh idea! 😂😂
@gensu3k1 Somebody was awesome enough to upload this game a couple months ago!
But, I agree. Sooo many good games. They should at least digitize them and make them available for download or something.
lol crackin up at that one.
@mmcneil777 Dark ages? Both the Bullets and Sonics were worthy champions.
@valigeorges I can agree with that. But its funny how fans don't consider those facts when belittling someone like Iverson's FG%.
Oh, man. This is when the NBA was fun to watch. Not so, anymore. (sigh)
He could have played in this era easily!!!
Of course.. all the great players could play in any era
If Walton hadn't got hurt, the NBA would have been stronger before Magic and Bird came on the scene. Something about him, brought a lot of glory to the NBA for a short period of time. He & Dr. J would have been able to carry the NBA until Magic & Bird arrived, but it wasn't to be, and th NBA went through some 'dark ages', bfore Bird & Magic showed up. Amazing how one guy can be a 'key' like that. Kind of like Len Bias for the Celtics. If only...
Pistol Pete and Dr. J would have played together for the Hawks (and actually did for a couple of games) but the NBA voided Atlanta's contract with Erving. Would have been an amazing team with Lou Hudson and Walt Bellamy.
If you told me Walton was the best player of all time in his prime I wouldn't argue...Not saying he was, but he had a soft touch in the paint and you could win a lot of games with a 77 - 78 Bill Walton
@@impassable double figures in rebounding and lots of blocked shots too
@@TheBent139 yes I remember this
Pistol Petes fg % was low only because he would shoot incredibly low percentage shots yet he made a good percentage of them.. Go look at his shot selection he would take shots that most great shooters would not!!!
Pistol Pete is probably top 3 all time shooter...period!
All 5 defenders were paying attention to him because they knew if they stopped him the Jazz would automatically lose
Same for Baylor and Havlicek, too. Elgin had West, John had Sam Jones. Not a lot else, offensively. Pete had less.
He's still the all time college scorer. He was a lights out shooter and I think only played with the three point shot in the NBA in his final year.
3/14/22, 4:08 p.m.
My favorite pass of all time.
It’s a great one.
I like Birds overhead, backwards bounce pass into McHale under the basket. Just SMH 😆
43.8% shooting at LSU. With every team keying on just you. Pretty much same in his pro career
Many times triple-teamed.
@@clydeb7713 Esp in college.
He was taking shots from 3pt zone triple teamed and off balance. Still killed them!
@@clydeb7713 yes he often was.. he was incredible when he got hot
That stat does not tell the true story.. he shot from way three point range often with two guys on him.. I know I watched him live
IF Pistol Pete played for a seriously good team, he would have 1 or 2 rings. He would have been more highly regarded as a player for his 'career'.
I agree...I just ordered two of his jerseys as I am/was so impressed by his play. Not only a showman but an innovator...Magic admits that it was by watching Maravich that he perfected his passing game. Bird also learned from him as Pistol was a Celtic in his last year and Bird's first.
In another regular season game they played that season, and it was in New Orleans, Maravich won the game for the Jazz with a buzzer beating jump shot.
I wonder if anyone has a clip of that.
Maravich - best ever.
Don't mess with him in a game of horse.
@@rockvilleraven I saw that on youtube: trick shot brilliant; / unbeatable;;; Pete marivich
LOL. That under-hand pass by Maravich. Crazy.
He made passes that left Magic Johnson speechless. But Magic was a better floor general.
Brothers emulated his skills.
@slip satch Along with Stock.
How about the big O too? Oscar Robertson...
We moved from Dallas to LA arriving at LAX on Weds January 9th 1978. I was 9 years old and who was walking ahead of us through the terminal? Big 6'11" Bill Walton. Was weird, in my 1st yr in CA I saw Mr. Roper get out of a limo right next to us on Rodeo Dr, Walton, right upon arrival, and when our Texas friends visited in late 1978 we were on a Balboa harbor cruise in Newport Beach and John Wayne and his wife and their friends were having cocktails in their backyard as we cruised by, and we waved and they waved back.
Stephen Curry is Pete Maravich 2.0.
this is the real nba
In pistol Peres 72 point game He was ejected with over 4 minutes to go and did this without the 3 point line, all accounts say that pistol Pete shot more than 7 jumpers beyond 30 feet and did all this while playing with a crappy jazz team that traded Moses Malone before he developed. Now imagine those 2 playing together. But 5 teams traded Malone including the blazers so it's not like they were the only ones
Moses grew uyp in a reed crib down by th'river: jumped to th'NBA--or was iyt ABA--at 18--or just parted th'mfckrs. The rest is writ: Read yr Bible.
57 points/game IF there was a 3 point line in Pistol's college days of 44 points/game and No Shot Clock
back in the 1900s....with NO binkys or "load management"
Unbelievable pass at 0:30... Sorry d wade to lebron, that was way better.
So casual, yet on the money.
Why???????????? Cause a brother threw it? Can't you let the Pistol fans enjoy their moment? Stow your racial bias ok?
pistol pete = greatest player ever
Basketball magician 🎩/ piston Pete marivich
dude you're taking this way out of proportion. trust me i definitely understand the game of basketball, more than you think i do actually. pete did average an enormous amount of T/O's (after they began recording them) and he didn't ever win anything of significance but that doesn't take away from the fact that hes the all time leading college scorer and a hell of a basketball player. he was definitely more of a scoring PG anyways, he was just flashy as hell way ahead of his time.

whatever. hell of a fucking pass at :23 though. what a badass
oh my goodness a white man made a left hand layup 🥳🥳
Pete was the best white or black
A basketball was part of his anatomy, like an arm or a leg.
@@clydeb7713 Larry Bird said so as well.
Walton and Maravich together would've been crazy
Walton would have been top 5 centers of all time if it weren't for all the injuries!💯
If only Walton could stay healthy another 5 years.
Great video thank you
ok wait a second. This game is just sitting in a vault somewhere, and instead of showing it (and other great games like it), we just randomly got a highlight package?
Get your act together NBATV, and start showing these classics!
Pistol Pete would be scary in today's game, incredible passer and handles
not trying to overrate him...you're gettin a little bent outa shape dude. just showing respect for a legend passed on...
all laker fans remember that walton looks down the cnter pwoer contiuum at shaq and kareem
Pistol Pete marivich basketball magician 🎩
Court is so much smaller. Compared 5o now damn
Respond to this video...
They love showing his highlights but I wonder how many turnovers he had pulling off that flashy stuff? If he was a great player he'd have more than just highlight reel stuff.....maybe some playoff appearances or rings eh?
Ernie Banks never played on a winner, guess he was no good. You got eyes? The Pistol did things before palming the ball became de riguer that guys today don't do.
Walton is the King of his Domain
Sorry for my english !
You guessed wrong...!
He's no Brian Shaw
damn it..why are you talking about titles again..thats not the point with maravich..his teams were never good period..not in college and not in pros..great players make their teams good..period..maravich never did that..he is the most overrated player ever..easily.
it does mean something that pete never even played in the ncaa tournyhe was all about individual stats..that is not a great player.
One great star can not carry a team of journeymen, especially as a guard.
west also won only 1 ring. he is the logo...robert horry has many rings and he stinks compared.
his fg % was awfull..period.he was a gunner.
Bill Walton should not even be mentioned with Pete Maravich. Walton is possibly the game's most overrated jackass of all time, and he acts like he is a God. I guess he really believes that his towel swinging aided Larry Bird.
Walton was legendary in all phases of the game in college at UCLA and the NBA when healthy. Great sportscaster too. Anthony has issues.
@@MikeJones-rk1un Pete sadly, had a shortened career. Walton even more so. Each was great in their abbreviated time. Ditto Grant Hill. Grant came back after his Piston's days, but was never the same.
A healthy Walton could have gone down as the best center of all time if he had stayed healthy.
@@dsfddsgh At worst, he would have very close to the top. In the category with Wilt, Bill, Kareem, Moses and Hakeem.
stop with the one man can't win a title crap. in basketball one grea player usually makes your team a contender..maravich never did that. not in college and not in pro. he is the most overrated player ever.
larry bird led a weak team to the ncaa title game, maravich never made it to the tourny
Pistol Pete marivich basketball magician 🎩;; give Larry bird 🐦 a trick shot clinic; then a clinic on dribbling;; pistol Pete was on 1979/ 1980 Boston Celtics with Larry bird:;; gave Larry bird 🐦trick shot& dribbling clinic
he is the all time leading scorer in collee because he played for his father who set him up to be the al time leading scorer.. his field goal % was awful..look at his game by game stats..he was a gunner looking for individual stats..his team sucked because of it..don't reward that crap by overrating him
Here are some numbers in the 3 short years he was able to score 3pt shots, he averaged almost 70% from that distance! That was at the end of his career with damaged legs. He had more lifetime avg pts than Magic Johnson. As many as Larry Bird and as many avg liftime assists as Michael Jordan. Nobody then or now had his ball handling or passing skills. I've seen most of them in my day.
He still had to make those shots you guys yell about stats will read them 50 years he still the leading college player in points he played three years he was magic to watch
He was unguardable in college. If you knew his dad was gonna let him put up 30-40 shots then how come nobody could stop him? AND the other team only had to stall with no shot clock. 44 points a game without a 3point line that would have been a lay up for him. His teammates after the draft didnt like him cuz they didnt understand him. No one on the Hawks then was half as hood as him. They were jealous cuz he got signed for so much. Not his fault.
