  • How to IFR flight in FSX Steam with a real pilot. Quick (relatively) how to for FSX Steam with ATC on a IFR flight plan. This is pretty much how it would happen in a real aircraft (other than that embarrassing takeoff). I focused on the approach brief and there are lots of ways to brief an approach and this is just how I do it . I find briefing the approach is a weak point for a lot of pilots and it is something that should be quick ( ”brief” ) but with a logical order to help catch things like the Nav/GPS button and verifying your ILS and Nav frequencies. Briefing is also a perfect example of something you can practice in the sim which can really help your flying in real life .
    Flight is from 1S0 (KPLU) to KTIW ...via COTNY , SCENN
    Print the approach plate for KTIW at:
    aeronav.faa.gov/d-tpp/1902/05...
    A free app I like and use is FltPlanGo
    www.fltplan.com/
    It takes a little bit of effort to get it up and running ( download the right charts and data) but is well worth it in the end (it’s a Garmin company). ~

    Like your attention to detail... like CRAFT explained. Please do the same with Approach Brief Mnemonic "FOP PLAN GO"...next video. Thanks!

      Thanks ! I shared the rough draft with some other pilots and and an instrument student suggested adding it.
      The “missed approach and Hold” should be out soon (part
      2 ) I’m working on adding anything I can to that as the hold is confusing for a lot of people to visualize.
      Thank for the suggestions ! I’ll look at adding it .
      Thanks for the comment and for watching !

    ATC is the weakest part of all the top flight sims... sad that in 2019 - we still have robot voices and unrealistic discussions within the software.

      I totally agree ! Bill won’t return my calls about starting FSX 64 bit! If anyone wants to get Bill on that I would appreciate it.
      Building a realistic flight program is a huge undertaking and it’s sad that no one has really stepped up since Microsoft FSX X (2006! ).
      I’m waiting for Xplane to fill the gap ( and I have been waiting for the over 10 years.)
      ATC shouldn’t be that hard to implement as it’s pretty much “ do as I say “ and not even a conversation.

      Stuff like Vatsim or pilotedge can be ok for this, but it can be a pain to setup if you don’t know what you’re doing.

      @@NEROAviation Prepar3d provides some weird zig zag approaches and tailwind landing clearances often.

    I flew my IFR check ride with steam gauges. ha ha. Will that AP fly the approach in the approach mode or do you still have to hand fly the plane when the approach mode is activated? Great video.

      The auto pilot will fly the approach mode. FSX is pretty awesome ! I can’t wait for Microsoft’s new 2020 64 bit flight simulator.
      Garmin has a great free program for practicing IFR. It’s not steam gauges but it’s free and I use it to keep the IFR mindset. ua-cam.com/video/NcMGhMssDco/v-deo.html
      Link to the free software on Garmin’s website is in the description (it will fly the approach using the AP as well).

      Sorry I don’t know ... I hardly ever use the actual weather I just set it to whatever I want.
      I’ll go try mine and see it if works.

    Sadly you use the GPS. Why not try it with Bendix King radio s of the Cessna displayed in your video. Much more of a challenge

      Well I was on vectors so I could have had the GPS off but it’s a cool visual to use in the video. I hope I had it on VLoc for the approach which is the radio Nav and not the GPS. I do love having a GPS available and hate flying IFR for real without one.

    Why in the world when trying to learn to scan why use an auto pilot. They just get you in trouble when they Quit.

    • @NEROAviation
      @NEROAviation  4 роки тому +1

      I don’t suggest using the sim to learn your scan unless it’s a professional simulator with real control feedback. I personally use the sim to practice the thought processes for IFR not the hand flying aspects.

    dude you were overspeeding your flaps.

    • @NEROAviation
      @NEROAviation  3 роки тому

      It’s an R model Cessna so first notch of flaps can be deployed at 110 kts. The white arc doesn’t reflect that but it’s labeled on the flap lever by a blue band.
      Most Cessna 172s built after 1978 allow for 110 kts for the first notch of flaps.
      Thanks for watching and good catch!
