The 'explaining how to do a thing' voice and word choice is kind of iconic to her channel at this point. Its just part of her brand. She makes it clear enough when she's showing things that *shouldn't* be followed, so there's no reason *not* to do it and changing her style could alienate people who've come to associate that tone with her content. It could also be argued that she's giving the precise descriptions for the large contingent of people these days who like to do something else and just listen to videos.
I ran a lot of DnD games for a while. I remember having a moment at work when someone commented that I had "narrator voice". It caught me off guard when I realized I had been using the same voice to describe a work anecdote the way I might describe the events of a fantastic adventure.
"Nearly 50 year old patisserie mom" and "Trans outwardly furry EDM artist" have to be just about the most separated profiles of human beings is existence, and yet the internet has brought them together. I would've never expected this video in a million years, and I think thats great.
Isn't this the speech pattern of a scientist? Just shifted from impersonal " the cookies were added into the vessel" to instructive "add the crushed cookies to the vessel" like she is instructing us in how to replicate an experiment to see for ourselves that it works/she isn't cheating or manipulating things off screen. Like a form of scientific, empiric/inductive proof. She is a very skeptical and safety/education oriented food scientst (and mom) so that tone is expected. It kinda fits with her whole debunking videos thing too, where she tries their instructions for herself to "replicate the experiment" and prove it doesn't work.
Dollightful also does this. Like yeah man thanks for telling us each step to building a foot long water dragon out of a monster high doll I'll add this to my notes
yeah lol that immediately jumped into my head as well. I feel like in her case it does make more sense though because even if you're not gonna recreate the whole thing, if you do wanna customize a doll and want to do something more out there like giving the doll deer legs or whatever, then I'm sure being able to watch that specific part of the video in tutorial format is a huge help
reminds me of a math teacher i once had. often when teaching a lesson she would pause before delivering the final word(s) in sentences, presumably to give her students the chance to answer the question or finish the thought aloud themselves. except the habit extended beyond when she was actively teaching- she frequently paused near the end of her sentences in more casual conversation with both students and adults. at some point it just became a permanent quirk of her speech pattern
i wonder if anyone has tried to follow along with all her videos. like in the same way theres gotta be at least one person who's done all of the bob ross painting episodes, theres probably at least one person who's done every ann reardon recipe
I would imagine that it's something that has naturally become part of her language. Personally, at one point or another, I started putting a lot of effort into my word choice to give it a mix of flowery and professional. But now, unless I am consciously thinking over each and every one of the words that I type out onto the screen or spew out as verbiage, it is a now ever-present part of my communication.
Have you seen the parody version of her videos? He kinda highlights all the things she commonly does and capture her tone very well. (And it’s made out of love and respect for Ann )
dollightful does a kind of similar thing where her doll customization videos are formatted like a tutorial even though she makes ooak dolls and only like 10% of her audience would actually try to replicate her art
@@mily6664 I'm so happy you get to discover her channel and watch the videos for the first time. They're all super relaxing and her being a food scientist also makes her videos super informative.
What's really gonna cook your noodle is your delivery here is the same as in your vid essays (or maybe that was intentional, I just wanted to quote The Matrix)
Sometimes I want to know the exact follow along steps to making an abomination. What if I hate someone and want to maximize the smell of burned brownie mixture when I break into their house?
Ann Reardon is certainly not the only person interested in miniature things. Sure, she might be the only person cooking in miniature, but for those that are interested in learning how to do that, Ann is there for them. The reality of this world of now 8 billion people is that if you're interested in something, no matter how weird and obscure that interest may be, someone else is also. That person may be on the other side of the planet, but they exist. If Ann didn't make all her videos in a how to manner like she does, she would get bombarded by people asking her how she does it, so she's just one step ahead of that. It may be seen by some such as yourself as weird and unusual, but it's really just very clever, intelligent and creative - and Ann Reardon has truckloads of those traits available to share.
Pretty sure for the debunking videos it’s just to display that she is going step by step to show how the how to recipes are whack. It adds credence to her displaying how bunk they are.
SATIONAL AND INFORMAFETY yes,... get out gasoline park my belvoed.. also love this observation. every video becomes a tutorial. every 5 minute craft debunk becomes a real 5 minute craft
For another channel that does this, try DIY perks. It's not cooking, but it is "performing a bunch of massive projects that no one else would probably do yet presenting it as a DIY project you could do at home".
The video game challenge youtuber Gamechamp3000 has a similar quirk. She will explain arcane tricks and skips like the audience will go and beat Rockman 3 Hitless themselves. I like it tbh
i very much get it because i'm subbed to a ua cooking channel that also does things like "how much popcorn we could get from 1000000 corn", "making a giant kinder delice that weights 200 kilos" and he always describes what they do in an instructional voice, it's almost like a joke with the cooking channels, i think the dude makes giant treats to give them out for charity most of the time tho
Being _entirely_ unfamiliar with either this channel or Ann Reardon (thanks? @ Mysterious Top Secret UA-cam Algorithm) somehow I was expecting this to be a video where the lady in question goes through her day doing mundane activities like making and eating lunch or answering emails or going shopping and narrates it all as if it's a how-to. ...I still kind of want to see that now lol. Silly me.
UA-cam is giving me this below the video description: " AI-generated video summary Summaries are experimental. Quality may vary. Ann Reardon is a UA-camr who runs the channel "How to Cook That". She has a very soothing and instructional tone, even when she's making things that are not meant to be replicated. This is likely because she has been making how-to videos for nearly a decade and it's just become her natural way of speaking. " At the moment I don't feel like forming a cohesive opinion on this information, but now you have it too.
It's just what being a mom does to your speech patterns

this is good
i know right
Agreed
Our household loves Ann! She’s a calm and comforting watch. Really love her presentation style.
holy cat talkshow boy

Ann Reardon is one of my favorite UA-cam cooks, I highly recommend "How To Cook That" to anyone looking to up their baking game!
This makes me think of Big Joel talking about how Doug Walker always pauses for a beat too long after a joke
ann reardon is just,,, so good to watch
i wonder if anyone has tried to follow along with all her videos. like in the same way theres gotta be at least one person who's done all of the bob ross painting episodes, theres probably at least one person who's done every ann reardon recipe
It’s an Australian speech pattern lol
I was not aware of this lady but she seems very very sweet.
i'm so glad you have given us another channel
I would imagine that it's something that has naturally become part of her language. I have this same explanatory tone of speech go on inside my head whenever I’m doing any semi complicated task.
Another channel, this is a blessing
Have you seen the parody version of her videos? He kinda highlights all the things she commonly does and capture her tone very well. (And it’s made out of love and respect for Ann )
Oh it’s actually a girl
dollightful does a kind of similar thing where her doll customization videos are formatted like a tutorial even though she makes ooak dolls and only like 10% of her audience would actually try to replicate her art
i really should check out her videos, they seem super calming
oh shit turns out shes really popular and her channel just flew under my radar, thanks for the introduction!
@@mily6664 I'm so happy you get to discover her channel and watch the videos for the first time. They're all super relaxing and her being a food scientist also makes her videos super informative.
I cannot wait to sculpt my own Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature themed cake!
hearing you casually say "sational and informafety" like that made me feel seen
i like to imagine the instructions for obviously bad things are just very sarcastic
"sational and informafety" lmao. i recognize that from a UA-cam Poop but I forget which one. I suspect DaThings made it
This was very pleasant to watch

It's obviously to seem as neutral/nonbiased as possible when recreating hacks. It makes her appear more credible.
Are you telling me you aren’t following along to every Ann video? I love her sweet and patient instructional tone, don’t critique it 😔
Clicked on a video about one of my favorite youtubers to find out it's from another one of my favorite youtubers :0
that was amazing
SATIONAL AND INFORMAFETY yes,... get out gasoline park my belvoed.. also love this observation. every video becomes a tutorial. every 5 minute craft debunk becomes a real 5 minute craft

3:45 bluey moment

FUCK someone beat me to it
I wanna cook with a functioning mini kitchen!
UA-cam is giving me this below the video description:
