Oh my God! I’ve dealt with constant thumb pain for years from playing guitar and tried all kinds of stretches... but nothing helped. If anything, stretches made it worse. But 30 seconds of working that thumb muscle like you demonstrated relieved the pain. I can’t believe it! I will be doing that every day from now on. I’ve pressed directly on the muscle exactly where the pain is, but never thought to press and pull below the pain like that. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
hello. I am from Iran . I feel both of my hands really better. really thanks. I can not speak well in English . I don't know beautiful phrases for saying thank you . excuse me . but I can just say that you're a real human

guitarist for over ten years here and i must thank you for this crucial imformation. this is especially useful for advanced and marathon guitarist who develop tendonitis from thw fingers to the neck. i sometimes feel tension in my head muscles omg awesome content. im very pleased with the immediate results
Wow, Thank you so much for that, I was freaking out after I felt a springy feeling in my fretting arm from practicing a lot in the last few days and I immediately thought the worst and started looking for treatments... Everyone talks about the symptoms but no one had a treatment!
You sir, did exactly that and just doing it as I was watching the videos helped already and I am now confident I won't have to skip rehearsal or a show to rest!
Thanks!
You are very welcome. I'm thrilled to have helped. Great job by you!
And thank you for commenting.
Best,
Gary C.
Thank you. After watching the video using massage on the muscles on the forearm close to the elbow, and this one massaging the thumbs and fingers, my wrist pain is almost gone from playing a lot guitar. I discovered. from following your instructions that my fingers were sore and needed attention too. I erroneously thought all the pain was from my wrist.
Great! I'm thrilled to hear it.
Thanks for commenting.
All the best,

stephen jones hello, may I ask how is your hand now, are you pain free? Playing??
I asked God for help this morning with my hand pain, and he sent you to me
No joke. Amazing! Thank you so much
INSTANT RELIEF!! Thank you so very much for posting!!
I'm thrilled to hear it. You are very welcome!
All the best,

I don't usually comment on videos, but I tried everything from icing, heat, anti-inflammatory supplements, and splinting for 3 weeks, which were only partially effective. But it wasn't until I came across this video, and did your exercises twice, and the aching pain completely vanished.. Amazing treatment! Thank you so much.
Thank you so much!! I've just realized that I'm tight everywhere from playing guitar. But this has helped massively already. I will be doing it most days! Thank you much love!
This is the second time I watched your videos when I was having problems and I think they are gold!
Nice to hear. I'm glad to know they help. Great job by you!
Best,
Gary C.
First time I have done this and the pain has released thank you so much I have been suffering for 6 months
Ahhh, you are very welcome. I'm thrilled to hear it helped.

This stuff should be tought in schools, especially to any aspiring guitarist.
I agree 100% It should be taught as "regular maintanence" for any serious guitarist. I'm glad it helped you.
Best,
Gary C.
Sooo Sooo helpful! I can't believe how kind some people are by just sharing this stuff - it changes lives. So appreciated!!
You are very welcome. I'm glad you dove in and gave the techniques a try. Great job by you!

Just doing the pinches once with the video let me bend my thumb easily for the first time in weeks! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I don't know what I would have done if I couldn't play any more.
Priestess of Kek hello, may I ask how is your thumb now????
Can't believe it!!!! finally found something that works!!!! so amazing!!!!!!!!! thanks

Gary has taught me so many tricks for getting out of pain. His website is amazing. The videos are detailed and informative, and I can attest that they have saved me from many doctors visits and trips to the chiropractor.
Wow! I thought I was done for, but this worked right away!
So glad to hear it. Great work by you!
Best,
Gary C.
This has been invaluable (video 1 and 2) in immediate relief. I searched all kinds of UA-cam channels and yours worked immediately. I appreciate the very detailed instruction as well. I am not a guitar player, but you can imagine as a magician doing sleight of hand moves, just how "magical" it is/was to know there is hope of not being in pain and more importantly for me, getting back to things that use all these muscles and tendons, just like a guitar player as it relates to control. Totally subscribed! On a more personal level I appreciate your good-will. I know it takes a lot of time to create all this educational content. Again... thank you!
Hello Billy Diamond, That's really great to hear. Thanks for commenting. I hope you'll let other magicians know about www.diyjointpainrelief.com/ (just changed the domain name last week). And maybe I'll see you at The Magic Castle in Hollywood! I've never been, but keep claiming I'll get up there sometime from San Diego.
All the best,
Gary C.
Thank you! I was really hurting at the base of my thumb (the large muscle/tendon group area) after a 6 hour recording session. This really helped to relieve the pain!
Thank you so much! I’m a rock climber and a guitar player which takes a huge toll on my hands and forearms. These techniques have given me immediate relief and now I can do what I love without having to worry about hand pain. Thank you so much! I cannot thank you enough
You are very welcome. I'm glad it worked on those hardworking forearms and hands!
All the best,
Gary C.
This is amazing! It helped tremendously just after 45 min of using this treatment the pain is gone. I also applied this technique to my neck muscles as i am dealing with tinnitus, and the sound went down. Thank you for this, you are a true hero sir!
After years of forearm and thumb pain from guitar and computer use, this has been one of the few successful techniques I've found. Even after just several minutes of the technique I'm feeling my eternally tight muscles release. Thank you so much.
Awesome! Great job by you.
Best,

Started having a little bit of finger pain and fatigue after practicing some legato licks yesterday.Started doing this for like 5 mins and I already feel better.I'm telling everyone I can, you sir deserve a medal.
Hey Stefan, I'm glad to know it helped. Thanks for spreading the word. Lots of musicians in pain out there!
Best,
Gary C.
Just happened on these videos. Ive been playing on and off in my room for years, and really got into it all again last year in lockdown. I had a goal to Finally master downpicking, and spent ages each nite trying to play Metallica riffs along to various manageable paces with the metronome. Be it from hunched over whilst standing up practicing, or clenching the pick to tightly when picking, practicing, I have developed tennis elbow style burns in the elbows, and my shoulders are very tight. I go to sleep fine, but in the mornings, the shoulders are seriously tight and the tendons initially pop, whilst the tendons at the elbows feel like a forest fire. Once Im out and outta the bed, the discomfort dissolves, but its bothersome. Playing guitar itself, the discomfort isnt really there- it happens overnight. So thanks for the advice here. I hope to try it with some results. Many thanks again.
Thank you so much! I can’t belief how fast this worked. I had tried everything, every stretch people recommended, nothing worked, but 30 seconds of this made the pain go away! I can’t believe it. Thank you so, so much!
You are very welcome. You can do this as occasional maintenance, so you never get to the point where you are in pain. Great work by you!
Best,
Gary C.
Wow! Just after 15 minutes of this i already feel much better. I didn´t think, i can really practice as much as i want to. Thank you! I´ll definitely share this video with my fellow musicians.
Great! Glad hear it. Keep up the good work.
All the best,
Gary C.
@@garycrowley1 I experienced some pain in that big muscle on the pinky side of my palm. First, when i started to do this treatment, pain actually increased, but now, as i continue it's going away gradually. Is that ok? Am i going to die soon?
just started this treatment, already seams to help. I sure hope it takes care of the problem cause I don't want surgery, and I'm not gonna quit playing music
Hey john whats your status now pain free? Did you still play while doing the exervises?
I just started playing a few days ago and experinced pretty bad wrist and hand pain and got scared that perhaps guitar playing is not for me but these exercises helped pretty much immediately. Thank you so much!
That's great to hear. You might want to release those tight muscles everyday as maintenance while your body gets used to the unique new movements that come with playing the guitar. Keep up the good work!
Best,
Gary C.
Unbelievable.... After just 5 minutes, I felt a sweet release from the elbow down to the wrist, and my thumb muscle doesn't hurt anymore when I do barre chords for more than 10 minutes..... Thank you so much! I've also combined the massaging with the muscle rubs (not the freezing ones).
Incredible. I can actually play again!!! Thank you for sharing this with us. Youre a good man, and this has improved my life immeasurably. My most sincere gratitude!
That's wonderful to hear. I put up these videos for all the folks in the world I'll never get my hands on, so I'm thrilled you found them. Great work by you!

Thank you for this!!! I'm a 56 yo guitar player and my fretting thumb has been killing me with pain. I switched guitars for a new band, and the neck is thicker than I'm used to. Now there are times where I can barely play, so hopefully these tips will help me deal with the pain and hopefully cure it eventually.
You are very welcome. Sounds like you're on top of it. You may have to play around with your hand position while playing to not have the issue return. Good luck with the new band!
Best,
Gary C.
Dude you are a true doctor. I appreciate this so much, been playing for 14 years but have doubled down practicing lately + I started weight lifting and I think the compounding result has given me tendonitis in my fretting hand. I feel it the most when barring chords, F shape up and down the neck. It really sucks but this really helps so thank you!!
That's great to hear. I'm glad it helped. Sounds like you might need to do some regular maintenance on those arms. Keep up the good work!
Best,
Gary C.
I am so pleased I found your channel and website. Been playing guitar for an hour or two per day for the last 8 months and my forearms and elbow on both arms have started to hurt a fair bit to the point where I was dreading picking up th e guitar. I’ve only been doing these techniques for 10 minutes but can already feel the difference! Thank you 🙏

Gary!!! I have Tendonitis plus some Dr's say Carpal Tunnel(no clue how I could have gotten that back in my 20's) it never made sense. My wrists and hands go numb especially when I wake up. Outstanding advice , guidance and miraculous help Sir. I was under the impression that with my increased playing in the past 6 months since my arrival in West Texas, that I had the onset of advanced arthritis in my left hand hand, finger joints. Having worked through your expert advice and routines it is immediately improving. I cannot thank you enough Gary music means so much to me and the lovely fiends I entertain. God Bless Sir. Paul Oughton West Texas ( Formerly South Yorkshire, England)
Paul Oughton Hi Paul, That's great to hear! Thanks. I've rescued many a panicked guitar player over the years. And, of course, it's the really dedicated ones who end up with problems because they play so much. I'm glad to know my videos helped.
All the best,
Gary Crowley
I hope this works, I am a musician and unable to use my left hand for the most part. Afraid the other hand may blow out. I'm trying this out. Just bought a "kingbrand" wrap and therapy kit...trying anything. Thank you for this , I had no idea how much my thumbs hurt!
Thank you 🙏 I’m getting older and this is much better than ibuprofen and Aleve regimen.
Glad to hear it. Keep up the good work!

You are very welcome. I'm glad it helped so much.

I guess I overdid it with practicing a new piece last week and now my Index is beginning to hurt the same way my thumb did two years ago shortly before tendonitis was diagnosed on it. I'm going to try this and see if it helps. Fingers crossed! (Yes, pun absolutely intended)
thanks for the help feeling less pain and tight already. I will keep this up daily.
👍 That's great to hear. Keep up the good work.
All the best,

Utterly fantastic. I've been having pain in my hands for a while now and this has almost completely taken it away. Going to try again tomorrow (the essence of successful self-massage seems to be a lot of experimentation with your own particular pains) and rest for a few days.
Can already notice a huge improvement in the feel in my hands.
I'm very glad to hear it. I agree, you've got to get in there and start feeling what works. Great job by you!

@@garycrowley1 Thanks for your reply. So far "Effortless Guitar" by Adrian Farrell seems promising for injury prevention too.
What great advice, Gary. I never had any issues with my playing, but for the last couple of years, I didn't play so often. Then I got some free time and began to play a lot. I developed quite a bit of pain and thought I would not be able to play. This helped immediately. Thanks so much!!

Thank you! I'm a fiddle player and have been having pain in my thumb and wrist on my bow hand. Worked with your techniques during the video and it's already feeling better! I'll keep you posted!
Thanks Gary I get lots of pain in my hands and wrist from typing and I've started doing your exercises and noticed a huge difference! Thank you and look forward to future videos :)

@@garycrowley1 thanks again! This is probably too much to ask for, but I do have one followup question - how many times a day can I do this release? Can I overdo it to hurt myself? Thank you so very much!
You can do it as much as you'd like. If you over do it, you''ll just be a bit too sore to work on yourself for a day or so. When my wrist is hurting from doing to much bodywork I'll work on it throughout the day many times until I get everything released. You can work on it before, during and after you play.
Best,
Gary Crowley
@@garycrowley1 thanks much!
Thank you so very much for this, you are saving lives good sir!
I have had tendonitis for 2 months now that goes from the beginning of my palm (where its the worst) to my index finger, probably due to bar chords.. The excercise you did at 2:25 looked like it was going to be extremely painful but it actually felt pretty good.
Just work at the level you can relax into and that's generally the pressure people describe as " good pain." Sounds like you're off to a great start. Keep up the good work!
Best,
Gary C.
Thank you, the muscle between my left thumb and index finger was very painful from playing a lot. I just did as you instructed and it feels relieved. I'll see by tomorrow for sure, but at least for now it's relaxed. Thanks again.

I stayed with my thumb support on breaks and before and after gigs sometimes taking pain pills and it worked when I was younger but after playing guitar for 70 my strumming hand was so painful I told my agency I would need to be replaced do to my injury. the problem was I had two years left on contract and I had borrowed funds from my expense account for the coming tour buying vintage guitars so I had know choice but to tuff it out or default so I took the injections. this worked but it was only a bandaid having to repeat the injections for the rest of my time with the agency. after performing your technique just once.I started plying with know pain. I need to donate to your channel as my way of saying Thank You ??
Hi Max, You are so very welcome. I love helping someone to keep playing an instrument that they love, but I love even more being able to help someone keep their job. Keep up the good work! Doing these techniques as maintenance even when there is no pain is always good for a professional musician. And if you do want to donate, I do appreciate it. Here's my donation page, www.diyjointpainrelief.com/donate.html
