This gun is a complete winner. I’ve put 500+ rounds through mine which I’ve had for 3 weeks. Not a single issue. Fits my hand with the 12 rd magazine perfectly. Love the hammer fire. Bought 2 Kydex holsters IWB and outside and I seriously don’t even know I’m carrying it. 3 white dot sights, you really don’t need night sights, it’s for self defense which means close in, 21’ or less. If you must have night sights any gun store will sell you fluorescent paint you can dab on. I have had NO issues with the trigger. This gun is a clear winner.
I look forward to receiving a repaired CSX back from S&W an my wife is eager to take it to the range. I think it will be a great firearm for her.
@@jerrystark3587 what happened to it?
@@yeejay6396 The slide lock pin was far too tightly fitted. It was damned near impossible for me to get the pistol taken down for cleaning; my wife would never have been able to do it. All good now. ✔
I’ve found using a golf tee is the way to go for disassembly. It’s a great non marring tool.
Chamber flag
Thank you! I'll buy a bag of cheap tee's for home and range bags etc
Great idea
I like how you cut out the fact that you have to beat the hell out of the slide stop to get it separated for disassembly. That’s really helpful editing!
Have zero issues with disassembly and don't need to beat anything! If this is a problem for you perhaps you should not own firearms!
I think you're right. I just bought this gun after watching how easy was to disassemble but that pin has to be beaten. I haven't fired the gun because the manual says to lubricate before firing. But this pin thing is a real bummer. I cannot take it apart and I don't want to damage the finish of the gun
@@barefootbob1269congratulations. I cannot release that pin.
@@AntonioCavicchioni I use a golf tee and also used a 762x54 round both work great. Make sure you are lining up the notch there is not much of a margin for error there.
@@barefootbob1269 Thanks
Is it possible that in the near future there will be a tool free takedown revision?
Dude all this time, I've been assuming it was gonna be similar to a CZ in disassembly since the takedown lever is also the pin... And this is gonna sound weird but I want one even more now that it's this difficult to takedown since no amount of abuse and usage will magically release that pin... In the future, they might as well make it similar to a CZ since the lever exits the same on both
NO.
Tool free? Like my 50 year old Model 39 with identical takedown? Except on the 39 the end of the pin is rounded and sticks out just enough you can push it out with a finger while working from the left side. That would've been too easy.
Why in the world didn't S&W design a backstrap removal tool that can double as a takedown tool, and to have it store on the firearm like every other M&P? What a lost opportunity, Smith!
Thinking the same thing!
because that's where the hammer spring is (this is basically a 1911)
My wife recently purchased a SW CSX 9mm. She wanted the pistol because she is able to pull the slide back, which she cannot do with most other compact 9mm pistols.
This is somewhat ironic, because in cleaning the gun for the first time before using it, we found that neither she nor I could press out the slide lock pin using a punch with hand pressure -- and I do not have weak hands.
To get the slide lock pin out, I have to (1) align the slide to remove the pin, (2) clamp the slide with a Quick Clamp, and (3) tap out the pin by tapping a punch with a hammer. What is wrong with this picture???
I have disassembled this firearm 10 times and the pin is still too tight to push out using normal procedures.
I have other pistols, including a 1911, so I am familiar with this process of disassembly. I have never had a problem with disassembling any pistol, until now. The CSX's pin is just too damned tight.
Has anyone else had this problem? 😠
Yes, I have the same problem and I sent it to S&W. Still waiting for them since 4 weeks. Exactly the same problem and the same solution. This is something unacceptable.
20lb sledging mine, slice rods next
UPDATE: I contacted S&W about this issue and, at their instruction, I sent the pistol in for repair. It took a while (over a month) but the pistol came back in good working order. I did not mind waiting for a proper repair and I was pleased with the immediate response I got from the S&W tech support agents.
Good to go! 👍👍
My S & W M & P 22 Magnum is set up the same way.
Thank you for making the CSX with left handed people in mind.
I'd hoped for a performance division option.
If you make a 2.0 make the slide releases about10mm longer, and 12 round only without the spacer,
da/sa would be very nice as well.
great video bud , I"ve watched many videos on this disassembly this one is most helpful
Looks like a cool gun.
Hope they come out with a version with a better grip and trigger soon.
Nice little firearm
Wish I see this B4 my purchase...a gun I can't clean is a gun I don't need
I like how it’s pretty much a 1911.
So the first thing you do when you buy a new firearm, take it home, field strip it, clean it, oil it, & reassemble it. The tool you need to line up the take down pin, is the first thing the salesman/saleswomen took out of the pistol, the CHAMBER FLAG!!!!!. Put the big ear flat into the chamber, it is almost an exact spacer to line up the take down pin. I tried for 4 hours Saturday evening to field strip it so I could clean and oil it. Once the flag is in, you barely have to move the slide back while pushing the pin, Viola the BIG CLICK that you want to hear happens. Never throw that flag away! From any gun you buy.
Thank you. Introduce a part that is going make the mag release ambi.
Just got this gun. 4 stars because in 2023 after more than 100 years of the John Brownings master piece, the 1911; S&W makes a pistol that requires tools and a vice to properly clean and inspect.
At least it's all metal instead of Tupperware and has a hammer and safety to carry in Condition One. As it should be.
I figured out how to field strip this gun FINALLY! The popping of the pin and aligning the barrel was the only hiccup I had.
where did you align the slide?
Love this little 1911-style pistol, makes for a damn good concealed secondary sidearm; or even a primary sidearm if total concealment and high capacity is what you're looking for. It'd be nice if I could field strip it as quickly and easily as my M&P, but it only takes a few more seconds. "Tactical Tightwad" did make a good point in regards to the tool storage, though.
1 thing I notice right away from this video is the fact that they completely skipped over the part where he have to line up the slide before punching the slide stop out. They edited that part out and went straight to him punching it out. This is low key dishonest because they know it's not an easy task lining up the slide 1 side, hold it there, then punch it out on the other side. Shady tactics from s&w.
You were not paying attention they absolutely did not skip over it at around the 1:20 it is addressed. I can't for the life of me understand all the whining about this not like you do it 10 times a day. God people let it go! If you can't handle it buy a different gun.
Agree 100%
addressed but not shown
I fought with my new CSX for 3 hours trying to get that pin out the 1st time. It was so frustrating I would've returned the gun if I could've and stuck with my P365. I finally stumbled on the idea of jamming the orange "flag" plug in the ejection port gap to hold the slide in position so I could use both hands to fight with the pin. I eventually had to use a hammer with the punch to get it to budge. On reassembly I discovered the hole isn't aligned fully straight through when the slide is in the prescribed position! My slide has to be back farther... about half the width of the hole... in order to have everything aligned in order to replace the pin. I scribed an almost imperceptible mark on the right side of the slide over the center of the pin so I could see when the slide was in the proper position on the side I'm working on.
This is very similar to the takedown of my 1973 Model 39-2 except on the older model the rounded end of the pin sticks out far enough that you can feel the nub and push it through while facing the left side of the firearm. Tool free disassembly! Whoever designed this tool required method of takedown should be banished from firearm design and be employed flipping burgers. IMO!
S&W really cheaped out. My Sig Sauer P365 came in a hard sided, cushioned pistol carrying case with three 12 round magazines. The CSX comes in a cardboard box and requires a tool for takedown that's not supplied. Cheesy! No regrets because in a world of cookie cutter Tupperware CCW firearms I wanted a metal single action weapon with a hammer and safety to be carried in Condition One, the way God intended.
I was able to disassemble mine no problem after my FFL showed me how to do it. It's not rocket science.
So how soon before a CSX with the Federal 30 available?
So… when is the Performance Center version with day/night trijicon, rail, optic cut, and premium trigger coming out?
I too am curious. Buying as is. But if it shoots as well as I keep hearing, I would pay a substantial amount more for a performance center.
@@Catgat37 Now having some range time with one, IMHO it is a better shooting experience than one might expect from dryfiring it, or from some of the videos. Perhaps they’ve made some improvements for the first ones, but I’d still love to see one with a cleaner trigger break, and reset.
Did you snag one, and if so your thoughts?
@@JeffinTD I did buy. After 300 rounds, I really didn't like it. Ended up getting traded.
@@Catgat37 That’s too bad. Hopefully you didn’t take too much of a bath.
@@JeffinTD not as much as I have on other firearms.
Why are a lot of M&P 10mm having issues with hotter loads?
There are only two things S&W needs to do with this pistol to make it perfect. One, offer it in 30 super carry. This pistol and 30 sc are made for each other. Second, provide two 15 round mags, not one 10 and one 15, NO, two 15 round mags. Then this would be the perfect ccw or edc, take your pick.
I was kind of interested with the new caliber but after seeing the ballistics and then finding out it’s a SAO gun and now you can’t field strip it without a punch? What were they smoking at S&W when they thought this up?
Any idea when these will be sold in NY? Why not box them with 2 10 round mags?
That sucks man.... You live in a communist state.
I was surprised at how tiny this pistol is. I'm saying that as a small ass dude. For me it'd be the perfect carry... It's like almost the size of a .25
Looks like a great weapon. I always liked the Shield texture and then they changed to the sand paper texture. I have friends that have to wear different holsters and clothing for comfort. Other than the sand grip Smith and Wesson are great weapons.
S&W version of a micro 19 11 in 9mm
Make a performance center one with a better trigger and sights
Need one in .40
I need a 45 acp CSX with tritium night sights in my life... Please and thank you 😊
A laser light rail would be nice
Lmao in every review of this gun I’ve seen people are bitching about the difficulty of field stripping this and it’s literally easier than a 1911 😂😂
I never understood why you stick your finger in the chamber to check to "see" if the firearm is unloaded!!
Same here.. that is totally IRRELEVANT PERIOD..
Idk bad vision. I never understood it either.
It's simply a secondary measure to be absolutely sure the firearm is empty. It's also the best way to verify an empty chamber in low light conditions. Just keep your opposite hand far away from the slide lock and it's not unsafe at all
The very last frame of the video, you’re missing the word “have.” It should say, “Always refer to your owner’s manual if you HAVE any questions.”
I have 6 S&W firearms but this one I'll pass on.
💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I just bought my CSX two days ago. I've been trying to get that disassembly pin out for two days. What the he'll is the matter with S&W? I love the gun, it's a beautiful firearm, but I'm not shooting it until I know I can clean it. Probably going to need another person to 'tap' out the pin while I align it with the mysterious notches.
Oh, and by the way, this video is useless! The most important part, aligning the slide with the impossible to see notch, is missing from the video. Instead we get a 1 second view of the "notch"
currently jack hammering mine out as we speak, will not move at all, done plenty of pins and bushings on equipment, about to break out the slice rod
Your video indicates the slide should be near fully open to remove the pin. The S&W manual shows it nearly closed and pushed back a 1/4 inch. otherwise interesting video
Smith & Wesson can you please give your knives better steel. I love your knives. But 8CR13mov just is not good enough. Please make knives with D2 Steel. Or at least 8CR14mov. As a knife user and as a knife collector I would really like to see much better materials used for your knives.
Not field strippable without a tool. That invalidates it for me.
could use a knife or tac, can’t tell me you don’t got one of those😑
You never showed where the slide aligns with the pin....
Ain’t no field strip about it.😂
If you stick your finger in the chamber and slide moves forward. You just injured self. I never understood why you stick your finger inside the chamber. If you take a simple chopstick and put down barrel. Then Danielson doesnt possibly injure finger. We need to evolve and use are brains moving forward. Ill stick to my chopstick
@Evan put your finger in the chamber and send the slide forward. I would love to see how my logic is flawed. First time i heard having common sense is flawed. So send the slide forward on your pinky. Then try it with a chopstick. Just let me know which one feels better. Been doing this for along time, good luck
There is no gage mark on the slide that positions it correctly, for the punch-out of the ambi-slide-lock pin, to start take-down. The nib on the pin that must be aligned with the cut out is black, in a black hole, in a black slide. So, the frustration is immense to line it all up while holding the slide against the recoil spring. Smith should have cross-drilled a hole in the recoil spring guide rod to accept a paperclip wire, and act as position-gage, and hold the slide in proper position, while the ambi-slide-lock pin is pushed out.
Second, when I looked at the pin retainer for the ambi-slide-lock pin on the right of the gun, after removal, there was absolutely no lubrication for the three balls and split washer spring. I used the Lucas Red and Sticky E-P Lube packed in there to assure that retainer would never be dry again. One should not have to beat that pin out more than the first time.
Finally, cocking the hammer to full back position will take the hammer spring out of action which is also pressing the slide forward along with the big recoil spring, and reduce the frustration level, somewhat.
It has been suggested that one of the legs on the molded plastic (red or orange) chamber flag supplied in the CSX box, will do well for a gage to align and hold the slide in the correct breakdown position when one of the legs are inserted in the "round in chamber?" inspection port. I tried that. and it seems to position the slide properly to push the slide lock / release pin out.
It would be nice to see the CSX in 30 super carry in gun stores, I can't find it anywhere.
Ditto. Unfortunately it doesn’t exist yet.
I'm sticking with the the m&p shield. nice gun but no thanks
can't remove the pin to disassemble the product the salesman at the store told me easy to operate he must have gotten a kickback from the manufacturer to sell this product.
1:03 .... *"you're gonna need some kind of punch"* that's where you lost me. i'm out
It need a better trigger. The trigger for it feels like a smartphone volume button. Terrible. Make the trigger Iike the Sheild plus and many will be sold.
man it looks like you're going to neutralize Atomic Bomb .
My revolver broke after 26 shots, no return phone call after a month. I don't beleive in s&w quality anymore.
1) Please release a textured and finished hand grip, not this prototype that you have. With the small palm swell, firearm looks like crap and is way too slick.
2) Please fix the trigger to make it crips, light pull and NO FALSE RESET!
3) Please make a 10 round magazine THAT FITS INTO THE FIREARM!!! and make the 12 round magazine WITHOUT REMOVABLE SPACER!!
4) SW armour coating is far far inferior to the Sig Nitron coating... please figure out a way to stop the coating from rubbing off in 2 months! My shield plus is 3 months old and it looks like I've been using it for 6 years while my p365 looks brand new after 1.5 years of heavy daily carry.
Think "Field Striping" one thinks Ah, no tools needed, which is typical.
Field stripping is firearms terminology for the act of disassembling a firearm to the greatest possible extent without the usage of any extra tools. A disassembly that uses such tools is called a detail strip, but this is less common than a field strip, as the latter is usually sufficient for most cases.
Field Stripping a firearm for a solider is needed to quickly clean, and inspect his firearm. Having to dig out a "tool" to do so puts you at more risk than is needed.
Take the M-16/AR-15 for example. It was designed to be taken a part "in the field" with OUT tools in order to replace parts, clean, clear dirt. Need to change the sights, you can use a cartridge. Need to clean/inspect the buffer tube, same thing.
S&W, don't use the term "field strip" for this handgun!
should you need a 20lb sledge to drive that pin out? it will not move one bit..........
J'en un.
Double action would have been very nice.
Tool free disassembly 👎
I refuse to purchase a modern firearm that requires a tool for basic field stripping. Not a fan of carrying cocked and locked for a CCW. Too much manual manipulation in a stress situation to disengage a safety and cock the hammer. I'll pass
Fair comment about needing a tool to disassemble.
Out of curiosity, why is a cocked/locked single action a problem? You probably wouldn't think twice about keeping a round chambered in a striker fired weapon, but manually dropping a thumb safety is a deal-breaker for you?
@@gui-texzan7477 Yes it is a deal breaker for me. The same as carrying a 1911 is a deal breaker for me. For those that like that style of carry, fine. People need to carry how they are most comfortable. I also don't carry a striker fired as it's not my preference. I prefer my carry to be hammer fired DAO or DA/SA.
The disassembly procedure has me turning away on this one. Cool gun but not for me
This video makes no attempt to show "HOW TO" properly line up the left side of the gun. Might have been to tough for him.
2 things 1) disassembly is a lot slower the my Beretta 92fs 2) I'll be more interested when (and if) Smith and Wesson make this in .45 ACP
No thanks
This gun sucks. Making it a pain in the ass to field strip means people won't do it.
No thanks.
