  • In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves reviews (and mini-torture tests) the (super-leaked) NEW Smith & Wesson CSX, or "Chief's Special X". Is this just a metal S&W Shield Plus? No - it's also hammer fired. And single action only. And smaller. And lighter. And holds more ammo. You know what, just watched the damned video.

    Trends work in cycles. I hope this gun is successful because I like hammer fired metal frame guns. We're spoiled for choice with polymer striker guns, but if you want a hammer, you've not got anywhere to go. I hope this gun takes off ane revitilizes the hammer fired market.

      As someone who prefers the 1911 manual of arms, a gritty 8# trigger with a Glock safety defeats the entire purpose of single action. It's an abomination. S&w has been going down hill since they stopped bluing guns. It's sad to see how far they have sunk.

    • @bannedbycommieyoutube5time920
      @bannedbycommieyoutube5time920 2 роки тому +15

      @@zdub8438 apparently you didn’t watch the review in regards to the trigger. It was not 8 lbs. He showed it was 5-6 lbs once he had a couple hundred rounds through it, which is acceptable for that particular guns use (concealed carry). It’s all about application. You could probably polish it or go aftermarket (eventually) if you wanted to make it better. The trigger “dingus” is also irrelevant for the guns use. Concealed carry is up close, center mass, fast shooting. It’s not a target gun.
      Smith and Wesson still makes some great guns. Accurate, reliable, the finish/treatment they use on the M&P series is fantastic from a durability perspective, good ergonomics, so your shrill reaction to this gun is unwarranted.
      We are in agreement though that old school Smith and Wesson firearms are the best from a materials used, beauty, and craftsmanship (example - old smith and Wesson blued revolvers, 5900 series, etc). Frankly, if we could go back in time I’d love it. However, to not recognize the pros of the new stuff and calling it junk is being very closed minded, particularly for carry guns that are exponentially better now from a size, weight, caliber, and reliability perspective.

    Quick overview, it’s absolutely great. Remember it’s for CC self defense. That’s 21’ or less. You don’t need night-sights because you should be point shooting in that situation NOT aiming with sights. Especially if in low light or darkness. You’d be blinded by the muzzle flash. It’s very accurate, fits my hand, medium size, very well. I’ve even seen a guy with large hands shoot it no problem. No trigger issue for anyone who knows how to shoot. There’s 12 rounds in the mag so expect it to be a little tight. Love the 1911 style safety. If it was good enough for John Browning it’s good enough for me. I was never comfortable cocked and locked striker fire but this hammer fired external safety I have complete confidence in. Also there are some really good Kydex holsters made for this gun both IWB and OWB type. So in summation, 👍👍.

      I agree, I love DA/SA pistols with a decocker. I wish there was more options for concealed carry in that format.

    Aside from the single action trigger (that James was not impressed with), S&W is catching up with Sig P365. I love me some S&W stuff though, and this one looks pretty sweet.

    Great review James as always. Slide/Hammer bite are a major concern for me. Single action hammer fired pistols must have an extended grip safety or I bleed. I'll stick with the Shield 9mm and Sig P365. If S&W would like to make me happy They'd re-introduce the 3913,my favorite 9mm pistol.

    I like SA guns with a thumb safety. (gimme a break...i'm old) and normally I would be all over this but I know damn good and well as soon as I get one an optics ready version will be released. Also that trigger needs to lose it's dingus and be skeletonized.

    Great Review. I have been to the range with my new CSX. Agree, the false reset isn’t a issue when shooting. My CSX trigger is getting lighter but it still too heavy for me. Would love for someone to review the CSX with the XS DXT2 Big Dot night sights. I think even after a year they are the only replacement night sights for the proprietary CSX rear sight.

    At first I was thinking about its design as a "deep cover" or even as a great back up gun for law enforcement, so I didn't like that you couldn't attach optics or a light. After thinking it over though, it may just end up being perfect (after night sights are added) in an ankle holster or elsewhere as a backup gun for LEO or when you when you want a true pocket pistol.

    If it shoots anything like the P938, I think it'll be a great gun. I love the idea of a slim gun with a low bore axis. They shoot comfortably and the capacity would finally make me consider it over other carry options. Night sights would be good though.

    I'm very curious what the CSX becomes after it goes through the same product evolution as the Shield. A 2.0 version, CORE treatment, a slightly longer slide, higher capacity version, etc. And I don't see any way they offer a sub-five pound trigger from the factory on a carry gun.

    I'd like to see this design upsized... Like I understand I am essentially asking for more 1911 variants but I honestly would just like to see what S&W could do if they wanted to put a double stack single action only that isn't a super expensive triarc or nighthawk custom. Want 10mm too.
