- I sewed a pair of Megan Nielsen Ash jeans and a pair of Dawn shorts, so I am doing a comparison review in this video to make clear the differences between the two patterns.

I really love your videos. You get the information across in a very concise and clear, easy to follow, dialogue. Even though we are on the the opposite sides of the size spectrum, I get a lot out of your fit adjustments. I also appreciate not having to listen to a lot of drama or personal chit chat. Keep up the good work.
thank you so much for your kind words. it really means a lot to me. ❤️
I actually love how shorts turned out and how they look on you !!!
thank you! i did end up wearing them quite a lot last summer.
I just looked up the alternative waist construction and was very excited. I will remember to reference going forward. As a quilter, I thought I liked stitch in the ditch. But as a garment sewest stitch the ditch on a waistband is a totally different ball game. your logo is bar none. I enjoy you channel, Sara.
glad i could help. yes, SITD on a curve is very different and it used to cause me endless frustration. i think you will like the alternative method.
I really love both your jeans and your Jean shorts! Your Jean shorts look amazing with that top you made! I cannot speak to either one of these patterns, because I have not made them or own them. The only jeans I’ve made were the ginger Jean and they pull on Jean. But I do love the results you received from both of your jeans! Thank you so much for sharing your details!
thanks, Myra!
Hi Sara - Yes! I have made the Ash jeans 5 times, I believe. It's become a go-to stretch pants pattern, and I've learned a few things along the way: Thou shalt not interface the waistband with stable interfacing! being chief among them haha. That pair doesn't get a lot of wear. I do the zip fly a little differently, my main fitting adjustment is a little off the top of the front inseams to reduce fabric in the front rise, and I will absolutely backstitch to secure my topstitching 😁Like you, I like how the smaller 'assemblies' are done first, then the front and back legs put together. I have since gotten the Dawn pattern, but haven't tried it yet. I think because the Morgan jeans are my go-to non-stretch pattern (5 of them as well) and I'm slow to break in a new one. Wonderful video, thanks!!
thank you, Lynn! yes, i never add IF to jeans (except where buttons/buttonholes go). i think it goes back to a craftsy class i watched years ago by Angela Wolf who said that RTW manufacturers don't use IF, not even high-end ones, so why would we? glad the Ash is working well for you.
Your videos have the best content and I love your delivery!!
Thanks so much, and I'm glad you enjoy it!
Fantastic reviews, Sara! I am amazed at your altering skills! 💗
thanks! i am definitely not all the way there yet but i'm getting better.
Thank you for sending me the video to watch - excellent tip on reducing the thickness of the flat felled seams as my sewing machine has a tough time with denim in particular.
yes, it can be very tricky working with thick fabrics. hopefully it helps. thanks for watching!
excellent construction! love your topstitching!
Thank you very much!
Great video! I have been excited for you to post it as I have been wanting these patterns.
i hope my video was helpful to you in making a decision! thanks for watching.
Fantastic makes, the stitching along the yoke on your Dawn shorts is so beautiful, I like the use of the classic levi-inspired pocket detail too, it's a wonder what top stitching can do, they look great! It was nice to hear you talk about how you persevered and worked out the fit for both makes, and I like your honest review of both! Thanks for sharing Sara.
thank you! i have come around to really enjoying topstitching. it's very satisfying to do it well.
I am curious to know how you liked the button placket on your Dawn jeans. Does the front flap gap open on top showing the buttons beneath? Suggestions?
i don't think that it does. i haven't noticed it anyway.
