Yes I agree. I am a parent of two children ages 11 and 14. I have allowed them to be on their electronic devices for too long. So I have bought my daughter a pair of roller skates and my son is in Taekwondo. It is a significant difference already. Now my daughter desires to take up dancing!! Guess where those devices are at? In my drawer locked. ❤

Best decision ever!! I can't believe the lack of socialization going on with children. No sports pick up games, no neighborhood kids playing together? Catch snakes, bugs lol...chores? Personal responsibility? Kids seem very moody, bored, anxiety? ADHD? No structure, no boundaries. Your kids will appreciate you and your rules. Mine are in their 30s..❤

I’m 26. I grew up on social media. I recently deleted it (116 days to be exact). My brain has never been calmer. I’ve never been happier. I love my body more. I’m happier with my life. I’m getting closer to God. I try & tell other adults just delete it for two weeks if you’re not making any money in these apps & they think I’m crazy. Social media is literally driving lust and materialism

@tristanlang8475 lmao was coming here to comment the SAME THING!! I guess people don't understand that UA-cam IS INDEED social media!! Anything with LIKES, FOLLOWERS, COMMENTS AND SUBSCRIBERS (just like Facebook, tik tok, ect) Is social media. Its an app where you can be social like we are doing now. They just want to keep lying to themselves saying that they aren't on social media. How about don't be in the phone/internet AT ALL. then you can talk

Every once in a while I take my teenage son off his computer, and what I see is a two day withdrawal. After that he finds other things to do and I see change in behavior for the positive. This helps me see just how additive the computer or screen time really is.

This is an important topic, but i think another thing to consider is WHY we spend so much time on social media, is it a distraction from the hardships of life? Ie: spending time scrolling after a long day of work, relieving stress? ex: feeling burdened by student loan debt, price of housing, war, presidential candidates? Yes, social media can be a big issue in mental health but maybe it wouldnt be that bad if people didnt feel so anxious and worried about other things. We need more peace in our LIVES. We're too stressed about other things so we abuse social media.

This is powerful...I feel anger at this situation. Im 64, my children in their 30s. Thankfully they just missed all this. The young people I hire are not prepared for life. The young ladies have spent more money on hair, nails, eye lashes, new phones, nice cars...come in late, xall off several times..then they are being evicted for not paying rent. Our company policy is no cell phones in business areas (Healthcare) and they walk around with ear buds in talking to themselves...of course on the phone in their pocket. Its very difficult to see these young folks as they are not on a path to success.

My son's elementary school requires tablet use (Chrome Books). They give them tablet assignments to work on in class and give required weekly homework, English and Math, in video-game format. I am so concerned that these protocols set up by the school are not the best idea for my young 7-year-old child. I feel helpless because this is a required part of the public elementary school curriculum.

I agree with many things he says. Nevertheless, I believe it is important to teach our children (and adults) to name their emotions and be able to share how they feel. It’s a part of developing emotional intelligence, regulating emotions, and deeply connecting with people. There were moments in this interview when I thought most people wouldn’t agree. I am surprised by some of the comments here.

We can be on vacation and they are so disconnected from having a conversation or enjoying th3 moment because they are consumed by their phones. We are talking about a 40yr old and 75yrs old. Its not just kids. Social media is a drug. How do you point out to adults to stop or point out they have a problem.

Borderline happens in the puberty both genders & what you are mentioned about how teens react in that time frame both genders is exactly how energetic their hidden gifts are awakening, but if you are unaware how to channeling such awakening through their biological process without blending energy healing, meditation exercises & take time off social media, make you sick & feel off balance..
You need to control your mind, be in tune with your heart ( listen ) stay still,be alone to start loving yourself by yourself to build self esteem, to accept yourself,to like yourself without requiring the validation & approval of others! To build character, resilience, intuition, strength,etc..I am working in a project:!I AM! For a summer camp for the youth interfaith as a volunteer service & will use !I Am Positive Thoughts! & Energy healing (Reiki) with simple meditation exercises they can use as a routine,to help with their internal chaos manifesting outside their bodies..Thank you for validating my inner knowledge with scientific evidence, which is require doing spirituality practices, must be balance between science & spirituality..

He can be on tv and his phone the same time😭😭😭 Every year he has to go to mental hospital to be assessed and sometimes he gets hospitalized for 2 weeks or so this year they put him on a 2month doze and these medications bringing strain in my marriage. Especially coz he can't function sexually when taking them. The medication are equally not helping since he's still on weed and alcohol addiction.

You say this like generations before had phones and yet we didn't. We paid attention, we had teachers who taught, we had parents who came to school functions and participated in their children's lives. Yes there are always exceptions to this but I general I knew I had to pass and my daughter also knew that. I locked my daughters phone so she couldn't use it during school hours except to talk or text with me. She basically carried around a calculator because all the other functions were turned off. Bring back classes that engage children. As a female I still had to take shop and males had to take home ec. Teach life skills

I am part of Gen-Z and last year I recognized that spending so much time on social media and watching TV everyday was having a negative impact on my mental health. When I was spending time on my phone, I began to notice that after say an hour had passed, whichever problems I was facing at that time in my life suddenly felt so much worse than they had felt before the screen time. My confidence to resolve issues was effected, my emotions were heightened after prolonged exposer to screen time. Primarily because screen time numbs and distracts us. Preventing us from regulating our emotions. I've now cut out off social media amd addictive games from my phone and my mental health has improved drastically

I believe social media is very dangerous I am 41 and it has most definitely effected my mental health
I have had to take very long breaks from it
It's very sad I wish Facebook was never invented to be honest it stresses me out glad I grew up without it so it's easy for me to take breaks more people need to be outside connecting with nature and exercising I believe social media is addictive and they have done that on purpose to keep us disconnected from ourselves families and our lives
It needs to be stopped and a warning put on it
I grew up being playing outside most of the time and yes I did have a Nintendo but it was a positive influence on me not like social media being a negative influence on others and making people think that they need to compete with one another and all the drama and stressed that it brings
I hope people wake up and see this all before it's to late
    Praying for this AMEN 🙏

I still find it hard when I listen to such great wisdom addressing the power and lack of ethical responsibility that Meta and other social media companies actions constantly show. However, not many great influencers or wellbeing CEO's, with power like you Jay Shetty or also you Jonathan Haidt, will leave social media platforms to make a difference. Stop using them, hold them accountable, by leaving in numbers. I ask you to be of service to our children and show leadership.
I am a small business owner that was on Instagram and Facebook, I always felt a sinking feeling about the platform, a terrible gut feeling with being connected to it, especially once having children. So I left and survived, actually thrive now. It would be great to see you both lead by example, create the momentum to exodus these companies, to evoke the change that is needed.

Come on get a grip .. it’s not just the teenagers that are addicted .. I’m like yourself .. I was only on stupidbook oh sorry Facebook 😉back in the day and came off it realising how toxic it was 10 years ago and never looked back… I ain’t even got the WhatsApp app.. I don’t wanna be involved in virtual group chats I wanna chat and hook up face to face ! UA-cam has been around for an age now and it’s hardly addictive, hardly harmful, nobody’s influencing and being narcissistic unlike the other platforms in my opinion .. I’ve been sniggered at for not using a smartphone at my age but I’m happier lady since I got my little Nokia for out n about with zero apps /Wi-Fi .. yes I’m on UA-cam on my iPad .. but that’s kept strictly at home .. it ain’t in my pocket = not addictive! We are of a small minority not using these toxic social media platforms … I’m just hoping one day the world will cotton on to our way of thinking . Rant over !!

I’m sorry I’m gonna be so blunt with y’all. So for me personally growing up, I am apart of Gen Z (for those who are wondering I am 22) and I think it’s irresponsible to blame TikTok for a mental health crisis. That’s not only going on in America but globally I’m going to tell you my story and why I was part of that statistic of people. Who wanted to die my story starts with the loss of my grandfather in 2013 not only was the Internet going on and the world was booming. I was also struggling with accepting that my grandpa had cancer stage four and it took a massive toll on me while I did love the Internet and was obsessed with it. I also really cared for my grandpa and watching him slowly die killed me. It wasn’t until 2016. He passed away Because of the cancer and that’s when I became more depressed, and I couldn’t stop harming myself because I was afraid I was going to lose my grandmother even to the point where I knew I had to hospitalize myself out of my own safety to prevent me from doing something that I couldn’t take back. As a 22 year old, what makes me so depressed and anxious is how lousy and lazy these people who are 10 times older than me have completely failed us, but I knew who my grandfather was and I know what a proper man looks like somebody I can respect and listen to, he was my rock and my heart, even though Still mourn for his death. I hate when y’all will literally look at everything else to blame because kids are depressed and anxious.. it feels like y’all aren’t even listening and that’s why children are depressed and sinking into technology. it took me so long to find proper help and support and I was one of the lucky ones had somebody to depend on. Now that I am older and investing in things that really benefit me, I can now speak for those children the same children who are suicidal and depressed. I can now be there beacon of Hope.

30 year old, feel like old Gen Z/young Millenial. It was nice having my flip phone in middle school because I could ask my mom to bring me things that I forgot or tell me who would pick me up. But using my phone in class was enforced, like if the teacher saw it, they took it

I can't help but notice the amount of gender-biased language used by this writer. Not a big fan of the phrases "girls choose to sit together to talk about other girls", Or "schools are more designed for girls, who sit in the class, learn and please teachers'..

I have always said as a millenial we got to see both sides of the coin with real life and phones.
I 100% stand by the fact that smart phones are not good.
My daughter is 6 and i dont allow tablets, smart phones, and she needs to play and socialize.
I dont distract her at dinner, outings, and other things by throwing a tablet in her hand.
In turn she is very creative, very social mannerable, she is very emotionally regulated. She knows how to articulate her feelings and wants better than most adults.
And on the topic of being over protective we had to take so much shit as kids because our parents made us. Being around family members who were critical in a unconstructive way, taking away our voice, because we were kids, and not supporting us in thinga that were our genuine interest. So i try to to balance a bit of what i was given in a healthy way, but also provide exposure for nurturing.

Ok I have to address something here. The maximum security prison system comment he made is hilarious 😂. If you think that every single maximum security prison in the us is giving their inmates 2 hours a day recreational time or yard time. That’s a false statement I been in jail where you were lucky to get that a week let alone every day. Also I think every state and prison is different

    SAVE TIME, READ THIS
Here are the important things mentioned in the video along with the time stamps:
    * Jonathan Haidt, a researcher, professor and author of the book "The Anxious Generation" is interviewed by Jay Shetty about the mental health crisis affecting kids [00:01 - 01:00].
    * There has been a global synchronized collapse of mental health which began around 2012 and 2013 [01:00 - 02:00].
    * This mental health crisis is much larger than anything seen before and it is affecting most kids [02:00 - 03:00].
    * Jonathan Haidt argues that the cause of this crisis is the rewiring of childhood caused by smartphones and social media use [03:00 - 04:00].
    * Kids themselves are saying that social media is bad for them and they feel trapped using it [04:00 - 05:00].
    * There is disagreement among scholars about the link between social media and mental health but Haidt believes the evidence is strong [05:00 - 06:00].
    * Haidt offers solutions such as delaying when kids get smartphones and making schools phone-free [06:00 - 10:00].
    * Parents can advocate for phone-free schools by talking to the school principal and there are resources available to help them do this [10:00 - 12:00].
    * Haidt also suggests that age verification should be mandatory on social media sites to prevent children from being exposed to inappropriate content [12:00 - 14:00].

I'd argue that age verification for access to porn is currently absurd. You can just press a button. I would have liked for the interview to dig deeper into the mental health effects of early exposure to hardcore porn for boys, and its link to addictive behavior and depersonalization. I once tried to block all porn from my phone and couldn't be done. Even google blockers are just ridiculous. We should be protecting boys from this as well. Reliable and unavoidable age verification should be the norm online.

I want to say a couple things, when I was young in the late 90s, early 2000s, my mom was very vocal about stranger danger Online, I would never use my real name or age, I would always use a Male name (see username lol), and I was never allowed to use social sites, like club penguin. I feel like this moral panic around the internet has waited way too much! And this was before smart phones! This was only when we had a family computer in the living room.

I think trigger warnings in a lot of cases are kinda silly because exposure is good for healing, but I feel the need to warn people about this one. Around 56 minutes (not sure exactly because I can’t go back and listen again) he mentions, with specifics, a video containing extreme animal abuse. I had trouble getting through the rest of the day, had to take a benzo to sleep, and woke up this morning from intense nightmares related to what he mentioned. So if you’re sensitive to these things, I recommend not watching past that time. Just a heads up.

What do we do with the seed? We burn the seed, a burning desire to be free must be lit inside. The fire inside must remain for as long as it takes to light your way, consuming any seed we missed. Scatter the soil to extinguish the flames. In time due time thoroughly till the soil. Let all that is dead fertilize and enrich the new crop. Generously plant and diligently water your carefully chosen seed. Take time to pull weeds insuring your delicate seedlings take firm root, providing a glorious harvest with plenty to share.

I was thinking about the claim that new technology is causing an epic mental health crisis. We as humans are causing our own demise. I was old enough to recall my mom said it was claimed the radio caused young people to be exposed to many topics and their minds will be unable to process this. Then during my growth it was children were watching too much television. Then when my children grew it was too much computer time now it's cell phones and soon AI.

This has been a weirdly awkward video for me Jay. I must say I agree on most of what he’s saying here and the overall message of kids being off smartphones completely until a certain age. I don’t agree with the overall tone and energy this guy gives off. I don’t know if it’s just he’s not for me. But I don’t vibe with his energy very well. I have to say that he’s not mentioned anything about the positive things that you can do through some of these platforms.
