It's amazing how in 2004, DOOM 3 was said to be a bad direction for shooters. If only we'd known what crap that was to come 10 years later, we never would have said that.
Chance F. Collins They said that shooters were heading in a bad direction (Doom 3) and behold what we have today. If you really take an objective look at Doom 3 and compare it to shooters today, I think you may find that they have a lot in common.
***** True. Kinda sad the only shooters that seems the most promising that comes put this year is Halo 2 Anniversary, and Borderlands Pre-Squeal. But their are good shooters that came out in the last few years. Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3, Metro Last Light, and BioShock Infinite. The good ones that come out are too few and far between
I bought DOOM 3 for PC upon its release and still occasionally play it to this day. What an atmosphere and what a great game. I've often wondered if the small number of gamers who knocked it were, in reality, just too nervous to play it. Maybe I'm wrong...maybe I'm not.
Not even a typical nowadays 10min video yet STILL an epic and awesome video. Love your point of views and just the voiceover is sooooo soothing. Thank you for all the videos.
I would love to see a detailed comparison video of Doom 3 on the original Xbox and the original Doom 3 on the PC, there aren't any though. There are many videos comparing Doom 3 and Doom 3 BFG edition but none comparing the original game on the Xbox and PC.
Doom 3 has the awesome coop levels, both 3 and ROE have condensed or changed areas, generally with new walls and obstructions to block long viewing angles (engine limits perhaps). Modding multiplayer to accept more than 4 players results in a crash, both the limited edition of 3 and ROE include ports of classic DOOM which play back .wma recordings instead of MIDI files, although slower. ROE also includes the megawad part of the Master Levels. BFG Edition on 360/PC has Doom 1 and 2 with MIDI files played by GUS patches. Interestingly these are the same speed as the recordings. Doom 2 in BFG Edition lacks it's main titlescreen, instead just showing the intermission picture for the main menu. Doom 1 and 2 both have a secret level that is still present in the BFG Edition version of the game on Xbox 360 and PC BUT the triggers to access them have been removed. Doom 3 on Xbox actually has better shadow detail than Doom 3 PC on the highest settings, though this is brought down a bit by generally less shadows, a far lower resolution, and a lower framerate. ROE on Xbox permanently merged the flashlight into the pistol. Switching to your flashlight has just changed to switching to your pistol, and toggling the mounted flashlight if you already had your pistol out while pressing the button (white button). Because coop was added post PC release, during coop levels there are dialog alterations that are noticeably higher quality than the original singleplayer files. This could be down to the new recordings being in a different studio or recording environment, or simply the quality of the audio files themselves. The original voice actors returned to add new dialogue for their characters, easiest example to spot is the "welcome to the dungeon marine" guy in Mars City Underground, he has newly recorded dialog to reflect the second equipment cache on the wall opening up for player 2. Doom 3 on Xbox also works on Xbox 360, but if you play at a resolution higher than 480p, you'll feel some really intense input lag, I think the 360 has some major issues upscaling original Xbox games, because Halo 1 also runs in noticeable slowmotion if upscaled to 720p or 1080p. ...i feel i went overboard with this comparison lol
I love the graphics, the scares, the soundtrack and everything about doom 3 , It makes me look back to the old graphics and to the new ones on how much has changed with horror games today, I still love doom 3 , 2 and 1
When this came out, I only had a ps2 and this game would of been the only reason I would buy an Xbox. But since I didn't play it, I played Area 51,which this reminded me off, but no where near as dark and scary.
I had this on the first XBox, it was great to get to play a shooter like that on a console back then. A lot of PC gamers didn't really like it, which after playing PC specific shooters of the day after I turned to playing on PCs I can see why. For a console shooter though it was pretty good, the atmosphere was really oppressive and the gunplay was cool.
It's really is an under rated game for it's time, overshadowed by half life 2 which came out that year also which was more innovative back then, now the story or the puzzles are not exactly unique and doom 3 is now the more unique and more-so outside of the box. It's rather funny how time does that to games.
This was simply fantastic every minute I played this game, I remember feeling my heart racing and wanting to run and hide playing it which is why i love it so. Limited ammo and having to switch between light and gun made this a scare thriller I will never forget. :)
+Pkmnglitchr It's a first-person shooter which starts out with a Cherokee garage mechanic named "Tommy" whom is abducted by an alien starship along with his girlfriend and grandfather. It's a mixture of Native American culture, survival horror, and sci-fi. There's actually a reboot of "Prey" in development set to release next year, it was announced just this E3 at the Bethesda press conference.
Doom 3 is such a good game it doesn't feel like doom at all it feels like more of a horror game because it's a scary game but I don't mind it like that I enjoy the game.
It was a remarkable effort porting doom 3 to the original xbox this was the reason i asked my folks for one for christmas that and the chronicles of riddick.
It bugs me how people slam this game cause of the graphics nowadays. It's a goddamn remake of a game that was running on the same engine as the metroid prime series. The fact that the lighting is advanced even by today's standards is a technological feat in itself. Plus it's a helluva lotta fun. Really reminds me of the original doom and metroid prime.
It is pretty amazing that they got this running on the original xbox back in 2005. Too bad the original Xbox died too early, i had lots of fun and memories with friends on this system. Not so much on next gen systems though, i want split-screen back. It is so much more fun to play on the couch while sitting next to a friend than yelling in your headset all the time against a computer screen.
Id like to know why iD decided to change the shotgun design to a straight rip of Quake 2's Shotgun. I swear it looks exactly like it, but in high res and less blocky.

Richard Vasquez That's one reason. The fact that it's able to play DVD films, had free online play, and the success of its predecessor had. Its software lineup played a big role, too.
ReviewCaterpillarUSA Oohh right, I forgot it had not only online, but it was also free. And the DVD movie player added was a big step up for its time due to the other consoles before that. I forgot all about those.
This game is kinda the black sheep of the franchise but I loved it. Then again, from the name and the pic dark places must be my kinda thing. ... Tried to make some maps for it but always would get bored with the one I was building and start a new one. The possibilities are endless but working with bsp can get really tedious. :(
nice! i just started doing a play through of this game and wanted to see if any one else was playing it, and sure enough the greatness of classic game room play it, great review yet again guys!
at 2:24 did you read the panel on the door what it said it shows the Hell symbol and then it says 'Malcom Betruger' if you look at it closely this was like an easter egg.
Then just get yourself the Brutal Doom mod ( if you haven't already) and it'll turn good old Doom into what this game should've been. But yeah, I agree, this game was a total letdown compared to the original.
I'm in the same boat. I didn't hate it and I thought it was very pretty when it came out but the game itself just didn't do a whole lot for me either. This really should've just been a new series I think.
I had the same problem. I love the original 2 games and still play them occasionally to this day, but Doom 3 just seemed to be all about the graphics and cheap jump scares which got old quick. Maybe someday i'll sit down and finish it.... maybe.
You should get Doom 3 for PC and try out the wide variety of mods, espeically Sikkmod, Turbo, Double, Dungeon Doom, Wrathchild, Endarchy, etc. The one I will recommend to my grave is Fragging Free, if you have the Resurrection of Evil expansion then this mod is a must have because it takes everything from classic Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament and Serious Sam and throws that all into the Doom 3 engine for an amazing, fast paced, large, hard as nails Doom experience - I highly recommend it. There are tons of mods out there that really make the Doom 3 experience much more like the classic Doom you know and love.
it includes doom 1 and 2,but can I play them online and get achievements from them, just like if I buy them on xbox live arcade?and can i play new "No rest for the living" doom 2 campaing? Thanks, and nice review
I still don't get why people love DooM 3 so much. I played it many times, too, because I had nothing better to do, but I still don't like it. "Beyond awesome"? Why? Is there any reason to play it again? It was quite intriguing when it started and the story was awesome, but they failed to add into the game, instead the entire story was acutally only part of the disks you can read and hear. And it all started to look and to be the same at some point. It wasn't even scary, it was boring. They made a good job with the graphics, no doubt about that, I give 'em that, and the story could have been so great, and the grme is very long too, wonderful, but they failed almost entirely with alternations and game play that makes really fun instead of just being spooky. The only real memorable level was Hell itself. I wish the game had taken place on Hell for more levels, but it's just one level only, what a pitty.
I just finished playing through the game for the first time today on Xbox and I have to say its easily my favorite DOOM game. The game is very well paced, has awesome sound/lighting, and very good scares. It is long but I consider it part of the challenge. And I personally love the logs and audio recordings. They were fun to listen to while I blasted away at some demons.
I just finished playing this game again. I really think I'm going to buy the BFG hd remake. But this is still one of the BEST games and fps games ever made. Ahead of it's time it made the staple for what the future of gaming needed. The lighting and story telling hold up really well. Can't wait for Doom 4.
I personally like the original over the BFG edition. The lighting and flashlight are better in the original. Not having the flashlight in your hands makes it to easy. Plus there is less darkness in the remake and they give the player way to much ammo.
the doom series is one that has never let me down. i remember playing through this whole game in one night taking turns with a friend having a great time. now doom 2017 has been killing my free time.
I was digging around the hard drive from an old PC I found, and this game was on it and the resurrection of evil add on. It works perfectly. I played it and it was awesome.
You can now get the exact same thing with the Doom 3 expansion and Lost levels with the BFG addition across all platforms. I am sure you already knew that though. Great review, I just wish you went into technical specs and such a little more. I read somewhere the graphics were a little toned down from the original PC release and levels where a bit smaller due to the limitations of the Xbox. Things like that would be great in future reviews!
I have to say the Doom 3 is one of my favorite FPS games of all time. It's a game that I have played time and time again. The first boss that you fight in hell in order to get out of it was really challenging. The creepiness factor was intense. The comment of Doom 3 being like a combo of Bioshock and Dead Space. Dead Space was defiantly creepier, but Doom 3 delivers it well. The fact that the xbox game has Doom one and two is just a well added bonus. Good job guys!
i bought a disc of it and it down work it says "You need to attach an xbox 360 drive to play original xbox games" what's that mean? how do i work it? Reply please
I have the Resurrection edition and I play it on my 360, and I'm pretty sure there's just a little bit of lag in the controls. Am I the only one that notices that?
You just earned another subscriber. How? Well, you put together great work and most specifically I was looking for some kind of information as to what the extra content was on the Collector's Edition for Xbox Original. You told me it had Doom 1 and 2. That was the seller. Thanks Lord Karnage! :)
@RichHodges17 Assuming you can make that kind of comparison, both games were still designed to run on SINGLE core machines running at half the clock speed.
@JuCstin how so? not everyone has time to spend on it. i myself am in college and i dont really even have time to spend on my xbox, let alone modding games on my pc.
Limited Collector's Edition of Doom 3 on the original Xbox also included Ultimate Doom, and Doom II with single player campaigns, split-screen co-op, or deathmatch [2-4 players]. Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil is also available on the original Xbox and doesn't require Doom 3 to run. So the main difference is that BFG has enhanced graphics, enhanced sound with more horror effects, a checkpoint save system, support for 3D displays and The Lost Mission, No Rest for the Living (Doom II) expansions.
@EnigmaHood I was never a fan of DooM 3....I guess it's cuz I'm so into retro stuff. I hope it's closer to the original and is also made Grindhouse style...isn't THAT a good idea?
Does doom and quake have a tipe of relation with eachother? Cause in d00m 3 i saw the BFG 10000, and the main character is mathew kane just like in quake 4 Mmmmm
+Dick Buttkiss Si, and why not?? Should that math test have been a breeze?? I'm still reeling from it all this time later, gotta go play some Doom 3!! Ahh, that does work, my stress is gone ;)
Is there any way to play the original Doom, or Ultimate Doom, on this version? I've been trying to find out, but I can't find anything about it, which is probably a bad sign.
Not sure if you’ve found out by now, but there’s a special limited collectors edition of the game which comes with ultimate doom and doom 2 in the extras menu. It’s an awesome version to have!
Would you recommend the BFG edition on xbox 360 even though. I have the original xbox doom 3? I do like the game and its one of my all time best shooters, plus it scares the crap out of me.
The BFG Edition is worth it for consoles but NOT for PC, if you are thinking about getting the PC version then get normal Doom 3 instead. The BFG Edition has achievements and it comes with Doom 1 and 2 so if you really want the 360 version then I highly recommend you go out and buy it.

Hadn't seen a game review From gameclassic room in a long long time! This was awesome
@frankieboie And if your PC can't run DOOM 3?
@DSand8269 i think they work with gasoil
You can select to play it the old way or the new way.
Is there any cacodemons?
@hualni
Updated graphics? Go and do a 1080p fix on the PC and the game look almost as good as the modern shooters.
do you need an xbox live update to run doom 3 on the 360?
can i just pick it up and play or do i need to make my 360 backward compatable
i bought a disc of it and it down work it says "You need to attach an xbox 360 drive to play original xbox games" what's that mean? how do i work it? Reply please
Whats an HDMI cable?
I have the Resurrection edition and I play it on my 360, and I'm pretty sure there's just a little bit of lag in the controls. Am I the only one that notices that?
so this game is playable on 360 Slim Black 4 gb version?
You just earned another subscriber. How? Well, you put together great work and most specifically I was looking for some kind of information as to what the extra content was on the Collector's Edition for Xbox Original. You told me it had Doom 1 and 2. That was the seller. Thanks Lord Karnage! :)
@Sageintraining1 If you want to search stuff for Original Xbox Use -360 in your query. Also works in google, ebay etc...
Can't wait for the BFG edition!
I can't wait to get DOOM 3 BFG Edition!
he said it was on the xbox 360 as well right ?
you downloaded it from a paguina or you bought the game?? I downloaded it if you link porfa DIS
@morph611 Is coop alive on pc bro?
I never really played any of id Software's games. How good are their games, cause I've heard a lot of good things about them. :)
"It keeps you on edge the entire game"
Yeah because you couldn't duct tape your flashlight onto a gun... LOL
@EnigmaHood
I was never a fan of DooM 3....I guess it's cuz I'm so into retro stuff. I hope it's closer to the original and is also made Grindhouse style...isn't THAT a good idea?
This wont play on my xbox. everytime i try to play it it says to redownload it from marketplace
wait a min does this mean you can play doom 3 from the xbox on the xbox360 is that what he is saying ?
so ehm... where can you download this?
i mean for xbox 360
havnt played this CE yet but i just popped it in and say yu can only play the FIRST doom how do yu play the second? beat the first?
The first time the lights go out I had a heart attack. Creepy.
Does doom and quake have a tipe of relation with eachother? Cause in d00m 3 i saw the BFG 10000, and the main character is mathew kane just like in quake 4
Mmmmm
Doom 3 is da best for aleving a high anxiety day!! Works that adrenaline outta your system and transfers fear away from reality :)
+Charlie Wood so after your 6th grade math test by the way you type?
+Dick Buttkiss Si, and why not?? Should that math test have been a breeze?? I'm still reeling from it all this time later, gotta go play some Doom 3!! Ahh, that does work, my stress is gone ;)
how do you play this on the 360?
I just got a used copy of Doom 3, and am loving it, thanks for the review.
@Sageintraining1 Type in "Xbox Original". Have you tried that?
Would you recommend the BFG edition on xbox 360 even though. I have the original xbox doom 3?
I do like the game and its one of my all time best shooters, plus it scares the crap out of me.
The BFG Edition is worth it for consoles but NOT for PC, if you are thinking about getting the PC version then get normal Doom 3 instead. The BFG Edition has achievements and it comes with Doom 1 and 2 so if you really want the 360 version then I highly recommend you go out and buy it.
Thanks for the reply, I have brought doom bfg on 360 and I am very glad I did, its very good and scarier than ever.
@lazywhiteguy they are john carmarck said that they were working on it back in 2007 at quakecon...but the realese date i dont know :/
do you need to play 1 and 2 first to understand the story?
