Can we all agree that Doom is the best pure First Person Shooter (no sniping/no survival-far crying) to date?!? It's so much fun and instead of enemies that hit you anyway even if only one pixel of you is shown, as in call of duty's veteran mode, it's challenging, but not boringly unfair. I hated all that camping your way through any lever. you were always like: where did that came from and you died as soon as you walked around a new corner. My favorite level was in doom 2, I don't remember what it was called but it basically involves you pressing a button in a tiny room, the walls lower, revealing an arena with a crap ton of mancubuses, you kill them, then the walls around that arena lower and there are a ton of arachnatrons... and yes, I know I spelled both of those horribly.
My favourite level is/was E1M3. I remember being a kid and trying to make 100% secrets in it. This was way before internet and walk-throughs. You had to discover stuff by yourself. I was so determined to find them that I pressed the space bar on every damn piece of wall. When I finally discovered the last secret and it led to a secret exit level, for a totally new and secret level I was completely overwhelmed. I didn't even know the game had secret levels! It felt better than finishing the game.
It would be more like a de-evolution, considering how the graphics have gotten better, but the actual game mechanics have gotten more palatable to dribbling cas-- I mean er... "streamlined."
no you cant, because new game contains every single aspect of the old and then some. what Poet is talking about is slow degradation of the depth of the system in ES games that made every game after Morrowind total snoozefest - for example becoming imperial champion in the arena at the level of whopping 4 was the first time i ever facepalmed because of ES game ...
I'm new to the series and I'm 19. Just started playing Doom 2016 2 days ago and I'm having a major blast and I haven't felt this kind of excitement while playing a campaign of a fps game since Modern Warfare 2.
My favorite part of ALL the Doom games was the bosses they brought out in the newest game. IDK WHAT IT WAS but the strafing/quake style/platforming against demon bosses just felt SO DAMN RIGHT! Just wished they made them a little harder. Even on Nightmare, Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind are still pretty damn easy.
While it seems to be listed as such on several sites online, the minimum RAM requirement for the original Doom was not 8MB. It looks like it was 4MB. Systems with 8MB were pretty rare in 1993, 4MB was probably the most common amount of RAM being shipped with new PCs at the time. I am certain I was playing Doom on 386 and 486 systems that had 4MB of RAM at the time. It looks like id software started recommending 8MB of RAM at some point but that was not the minimum.
I tried this game in 2018, because I have a MAC. I grew up playing the original doom on my moms old IBM machine, and even without a soundcard and only the shareware version, it was fun enough that tears of unfathomable joy streamed down my 10 year old face. I was´nt thrilled with the Doom 3, and so I suspected this would be more of the same. I was wrong. I could not believe how faithful this game was to the original gameplay. I thought it was´nt possible, I thought that old feeling could never be recreated, I thought it was my own stupid nostalgia. YOUR GAME IS AMAZING, I LOVE IT. THANK YOU ID SOFTWARE. I LOVE YOU
Plutonia Experiment's Map 11: Hunted. From the deceivingly cheerful and asinine music to sixty of the most terrifying monsters in the game jumping out from behind a corner and laughing creepily, hunting you down in a confusing maze; it's one of the best maps in all of Doom.
+theblindkittysheriff 637 It comes with an expansion on XBox, that's not an episode. It's formatted similarly to how the episodes were formatted in the original Doom, but they're not episodes. One is the regular game, the other is the expansion.
hands down e1m2 is my favorite map in the game, it has multiple large secrets, some of the most interesting architecture, and a unique mix of dark labyrinths and bright well-lit areas. Everything I love about levels in the first doom is right there in that one level.
You say 8 MB is little, but in fact was a lot in those times. 8 MB was not usual, at least for home PCs. Even servers ran with 4 or maybe 8 MB, only very powerfull ones had 16 MB. In fact people bought memory just to play Doom. (Btw, it runs fine with 4 MB already.)
+TheTwinkelminkelson am I the only one that wants a Doom game with the very first original engine?:doom 1993 and doom 2 engine I mean this is pure ART even today
"Halls of the Damned" is my favorite level, for both the music and level aesthetic... Fantastic video, but I'm a liiiiiitle disappointed that Chex Quest wasn't mentioned at all... I also really hope "Doomguy" makes it into Super Smash Bros Ultimate as a DLC.
***** fans of mediocrity. There the people who hate things because they are so good. Like how people hate The godfather or Overwatch because of their critical acclaim
This was the most 'complete' videogame of that year. And a perfect video game.... No challenge. It earned the perfection medal from the halo series' multiplayer with its "story". How the f$&k do you do that?!
The titan realm is my favorite cause of the backstory, not to mention the ending being so satisfying, but I'm excited for doom eternal rn it looks even more robobust
Although it was made by fans, brutal doom is an amazing tribute to the original 2 dooms and a perfect replacer for people with low-key computers that cannot run doom 4
The DOOM 2016 game is not actually a reboot. It’s a sequel and does not ignore past events. The way he was trapped on a sarcophagus or whatever was from the lore and canon where the icon of sin or some demon brought a building down on him, trapped him in a sarcophagus, the icon of sin layed the responsibility on Olivia Pearce, the main antagonist of DOOM 2016 to keep him contained. However, they must’ve taken off the sarcophagus lid to do some research or something when the demon attack happened, leading to the deaths and evacuation, however the Doom Marine came to consciousness when the demons attacked and then the game happens.
Please research the difference between reboot and remake. There is a difference. Like 2008's Incredible Hulk is a reboot and not a remake while Resident Evil Remake is a remake.
War will never stop as long as there is sentient life, due to a universe of infinite possiblilty people will have different opinions resulting in conflict. And yes you just heard that from fucking shrek.
I don’t know if it’s my favorite level... but rather the level that elicited the biggest emotional response from me. Doom 2. Map 27 (I think). “Monster Condo”. I will never forget that first time walking into the room with all of the bodies hanging from the ceiling. As a kid, it absolutely terrified me. To this day, I still get uneasy when I play it and I’m 35.
I beat Doom 3 dozens of times over the years. I remember buying it day one in 2004 at Best Buy. Never have I once heard it was a prequel to the first two Dooms.
Raven Marine After the mostly horrible reviews I thought it's gonna be trash, but the Doom movie is surprisingly watchable. It's not great or even very good, but if you need to kill 2 hours, it's easily worth the time.
Oh man, me and a buddy made so many maps for this, we almost spent more time making the, together, and apart from each other, and then mostly showed them, and then spun off on each others ideas and ramped them up and went more technical and complicated, fake making 3D maps with teleporters to rebuild buildings we knew etc. Then making loads of maps together, then with a few more friends multiplay them, with the dial up modems and or networks.

Alcohol poisoning 😂😂
i'm sorry,i'm not rich.
Well i lose cus mt internet is bad, making it buffer every 5 seconds for like 10 seconds.
Agreed. Great level, especially challenging at Black Metal difficulty, available in BrutalDoom mod.
one of the best lvls ever!!! doom 2 is a great masterpiece too, killing thousands of enemies is the best!!
Kip Higginson *mancubi lol sorry. grammar nazis are here!! XD
WiresTheRoboWolf AJ OMG! I'm also a grammar nazi! how did I not get that!?!?!?!?!
Kip Higginson lol
My favourite level is/was E1M3. I remember being a kid and trying to make 100% secrets in it. This was way before internet and walk-throughs. You had to discover stuff by yourself. I was so determined to find them that I pressed the space bar on every damn piece of wall. When I finally discovered the last secret and it led to a secret exit level, for a totally new and secret level I was completely overwhelmed. I didn't even know the game had secret levels! It felt better than finishing the game.
4:47 - selling through the internet in 1993?
yes
I mean
It had multiplayer so
Maybe internet was there.
cmon not a single word about Brutal Doom? The best Doom mod out there.
nah, the best Doom mod ever made is Columbine High School :)
Mike Zap Pence ahahaha, no, it's HDoom ;)
@@mr.cup6yearsago211 lol true
its wild to think about gaming and how it evolved in such a short amount of time, the great experiences they create, everything. Truly mind blowing.
evolution of The Elder Scrolls
It hasn't really. Just better graphics and smoother mechanics.
It would be more like a de-evolution, considering how the graphics have gotten better, but the actual game mechanics have gotten more palatable to dribbling cas-- I mean er... "streamlined."
? But you could say basically the same thing about Doom
no you cant, because new game contains every single aspect of the old and then some.
what Poet is talking about is slow degradation of the depth of the system in ES games that made every game after Morrowind total snoozefest - for example becoming imperial champion in the arena at the level of whopping 4 was the first time i ever facepalmed because of ES game ...
Yeah, but fuck it, we can mod. :)
0:41 Who knew that a bunch of jackasses could change the world?
"Those who believe they can change the world, are the ones who will",quote from Steve Jobs.(the 2011 movie,or 2012)
I'm new to the series and I'm 19. Just started playing Doom 2016 2 days ago and I'm having a major blast and I haven't felt this kind of excitement while playing a campaign of a fps game since Modern Warfare 2.
Watching this video makes wanna play all the doom games again!
Map25 ; Barrels of fun. One mistake and your dead, which brings me joys of laughter.
Wasn't it map23?
+Doom シ Oops. :p My bad.
Map 25: the bloodfalls a bitch to beat on nightmare
I love Suburbs... Tons of demons suddenly spawning right after you grab a suit. Fun as hell.
My favorite doom level is from
The first doom and it’s called house of pain
I like the whole. inferno episode
Doom 3 is ass tho
I played house of pain through a classic map in doom (2016)
I love it to but I like gate to limbo
House of pain is literally the entire game
From the deceivingly cheerful and asinine music to sixty of the most terrifying monsters in the game jumping out from behind a corner and laughing creepily, hunting you down in a confusing maze; it's one of the best maps in all of Doom.
doom is a masterpiece...plain and simple
My first DOOM that I played was DOOM 3 it was great.
I wouldn't call the new DOOM a "reboot" considering it is heavily implied in the story and codex that you're the previous protagonist.
SomeDudeOnaCouch No. You play as the Doom Slayer, not Flynn Taggard.
Aranea Imperatrix In which Doom 64 was the prequel to DOOM 2016.
james wolfsbane I wouldn't say confirmed but the end of DOOM 64 transitions pretty smoothly to DOOM 2016.
I looked it up, and the doom slayer is apparently the same person as fly
Im probably wrong but the wiki said they were
My favorite level in DOOM is ether doom 2 E1M15 or Argent D'nur in doom 4
Doom 2 e1m15? What are you talking about doom 2 doesn't have episodes
PartyCrasher04 yeah it does👍
theblindkittysheriff 637 it doesn't
Half-Life Scientist on Xbox it does
+theblindkittysheriff 637 It comes with an expansion on XBox, that's not an episode.
Do anyone remembers the level Barrels o' fun?Man i hated that level soo much,i got stuck in it for a long time
Warrens, my favorite Doom level :)
That level really caught me off guard the first time I played it
EagleOfLight&Darkness Oh yeah but as much of a challenge it was, it was alot of fun!
***** I agree :)
DOOM 2016 is one of my favorite games ever
I've played the original DOOM on the original PlayStation.
i played it on xbox
Okay
I've played DOOM without mouse - on arrow keys - that's how it should be :D
@@janisvindavs Play'in deathmatch in '94 on Compaq 486DX/66 over Novel 10 Base 2 LAN, arrow keys and good times.
I played Doom on a 32x Mega Drive (genesis)
The Tower of Babel. God that was an amazing level fighting my fav demon. the cyberdemon.
idk why, but in doom 2016, it took me like 30 tries to beat the cyberdemon
You say 8 MB is little, but in fact was a lot in those times. 8 MB was not usual, at least for home PCs. Even servers ran with 4 or maybe 8 MB, only very powerfull ones had 16 MB.
In fact people bought memory just to play Doom. (Btw, it runs fine with 4 MB already.)
Yeah, I ran Doom on my 386DX 33 MHz 4 MB RAM just fine! ;) I don't why he says that it required 8 MB. Most people I knew had 4 MB at that time.
Am I the only one who prefers doom and doom 2 over the newer ones. 😁
It's okay, I kinda do, too. I love Doom 3 and 4, but 1 and 2 are bae. :V
No, I do as well, but I still love Doom 4 anyway.
You are not alone, my friend! :-)
+TheTwinkelminkelson am I the only one that wants a Doom game with the very first original engine?:doom 1993 and doom 2 engine I mean this is pure ART even today
FuNnn RevVviewSss
Well, John Romero recently released a new map for it, I think that counts.
Hey whats up I am from the future what do you think about it now
I’m so happy that you can play this on doom eternal 😀
Only been up for less than 3 mins and there are already thumbs down. Do people not watch the whole/majority of the vide before judging??
They do not.
It's called haters. Everyone has them
The random dipshits that dislike Doom in general, will dislike the video SIMPLY because it has to do with Doom. That's exactly what it is.
***** fans of mediocrity. There the people who hate things because they are so good. Like how people hate The godfather or Overwatch because of their critical acclaim
+Cresh you would think christians would praise this game, seeing as your destroying the armies of hell
This was the most 'complete' videogame of that year. And a perfect video game.... No challenge. It earned the perfection medal from the halo series' multiplayer with its "story". How the f$&k do you do that?!
The titan realm is my favorite cause of the backstory, not to mention the ending being so satisfying, but I'm excited for doom eternal rn it looks even more robobust
my favorite doom level is Lazarus from doom 2016
Knee deep in the dead.
Dimitri Petrenko knee deep in the doot
Doot doot.
Right now I am absolutely hooked on doom 3
Doom 1 is a very good game. It is VERY good!
Mr Goldfish yeah 1 was awesome
Mr Goldfish doom predates john wick with the rabbit thing
I got to play it quite recently via Doom 3 BFG Edition. For a game from the 90s, it was surprisingly easy to get hang of the mechanics!
Yes you are very correct
I always re-watch this video to hear how you explain the evolution of doom and the background music...am still here 2 years later
Mine is the first level of Doom 1
But I do love the last level of Doom 4
No spoilers 😉
Although it was made by fans, brutal doom is an amazing tribute to the original 2 dooms and a perfect replacer for people with low-key computers that cannot run doom 4
My favorite level is Abandoned Mines on Doom II! I still remember watching the demo play on the game when I was a kid and was amazed.
No.
Please research the difference between reboot and remake. There is a difference. Like 2008's Incredible Hulk is a reboot and not a remake while Resident Evil Remake is a remake.
Good video..
However, Eye-terations? Dafux?
It's pronounced "It-erations"..
I’m looking forward to doom eternal.
WELL BOY DO I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU
@@najdatmz WELL BOI I HAVE BETTER NEWS FOR HIM
@@gayahhbihh ancient gods right?
Watch RetroAhoy's video. It will never be topped.

Fun fact, ahoy used to be a pretty big cod bo2uber.
Now that I've played a little and watched this video, I'm excited for Doom Eternal
whats with the tiny pauses?
War will never stop as long as there is sentient life, due to a universe of infinite possiblilty people will have different opinions resulting in conflict. And yes you just heard that from fucking shrek.
+Jalen Williams and did you see that girl? She was looking kinda dumb with her finer and her thumb in a shape of an L on her forehead
+Dr. WeWe *finger, sorry guys :(
he just speaks like a spack all the time
War... war never changes.
Don't know about your cookies though.
Everyone here is talking about Doom. While I'm here sitting and thinking about Heretic.
Everyone is talking about Doom, you're thinking about heretic, and I'm fingering by b*tthole.
holy FUCK I wonder why people are talking about doom
I don’t know if it’s my favorite level... but rather the level that elicited the biggest emotional response from me.
Doom 2. Map 27 (I think). “Monster Condo”.
I will never forget that first time walking into the room with all of the bodies hanging from the ceiling. As a kid, it absolutely terrified me. To this day, I still get uneasy when I play it and I’m 35.
I beat Doom 3 dozens of times over the years. I remember buying it day one in 2004 at Best Buy. Never have I once heard it was a prequel to the first two Dooms.
people not even talk about DOOM movie :P (i know we have good reasons but still :) )
Rule number one of the doom movie: NEVER mention the doom movie.
You just had to dig up that corpse huh?
Raven Marine it's a good movie! Stop acting like it's trash
Good Idea... I'm gonna watch Doom!
Then making loads of maps together, then with a few more friends multiplay them, with the dial up modems and or networks.
doom is my favorite game
What do you think is going to win FPS of the Year: Battlefield 1 or Doom
Maybe modern warfare remastered
overwatch?
COD 4 remastered, absolutely
id like to say doom but mw remastered is going to be so sick
Battlefield 1=remaster , Doom=remake. I say Doom
