I played this without having played the previous games and really enjoyed it because it made you feel like a deadly hunter. You weren't hiding, waiting for enemies to finish patrolling, you were waiting for the moment you could destroy a group in one silent swoop.
Sam Nate Don't get me wrong, I realise it was dumbed down from what I've seen of the original games, I just think that, even though it's not a great Splinter Cell game, it's still a good game overall.
I prefer pandora tomorrow and the first game haven't played chaos theory but it's on my radar. Double agent was pretty cool and black list was a mix bag. We need another pandora tommrow or chaos theory from what I've seen is the right direction.
James Somogyi Chaos Theory, in my opinion (and most of the Splinter Cell community's as well) is the pinnacle of Splinter Cell. If you still haven't played it, please do so. You're doing yourself a disservice as a gamer in general if you don't at least give it a try. If you liked Double Agent, then you'll absolutely love Chaos Theory.
Thank you sir I laughed my socks off at your rhetoric. You are one clever, and funny guy. Oh and thanks for all your reviews. I Always watch them when I see you have reviewed a game. "give me a hint what to do" LOL!
I rented this and enjoyed it. Also maybe because I am in Scotland but I never once saw advertisements, I hear after I have played it that they are everywhere but I never noticed them. Hmmm maybe they are only in the US version? Or I suck at seeing adverts.
My Splinter Cell Dream Game: Chaos Theory meets Blacklist, with open world or even semi-open world, way more guns and gadgets to choose from, as well as carry. More options for suits/outfits, but definitely keep the 'Ghost' vs 'Panther' vs 'Assault' rating. I LOVE that! Also, more side missons, maybe a cool addition to the goggles, other than just sonar and night vision. Maybe an option to change the sonar colors. That flourescent yellow/pink/orange gave me a headache after awhile. And more options for the weapons. Such as to silence any and all, keep the several options on the sticky cameras like in Blacklist. One more thing, make it extra long. I'm talking, like "Fallout 3 long". Oh, and one more thing, you should *_definitely_* be able to fuck Grim.
This reminds me of Mirror's Edge for some reason. I think it's the way the game holds your hand and tells you what to do and where to go. It looks pretty cool!
love the review.. hey mark you should record some playtroughs of this games, it will be awesome to see your gamplays with comments. thumbs up if u agree
did anyone else have this problem where they complete the game and then later when you pop in the disc it says they cant find any save game and you lose all your progress and cant play a level without restarting the game.
I love how in so many games there always seems to be barrels of explosive liquids around enemy encampments. "Alright guys, we'll set up a guard post here, and store all our gas right here...next to the mounted .50 cal."
This, at first play, was so different from Chaos Theory that I immediately made up my mind that it wasn't as good. However, the more time you put into it, the more you realize that it is very much different from the previous sp entries but it also has great stealth aspects. Instead of a whistle you get a silenced pistol which you can shoot anywhere to attract enemies to that location and also a warning marker when an enemy shines a flash light on you.
@kvj1989 if you notice in the title sequence it says "classic reviews" AND "modern reviews".....if you check out some of the other vids on this channel there are ALOT of classic game reviews
@12martin12rojas Not exactly.. i would say ME 1 is the x360 equivalent not considering the genre but the quality, and the fact that they are both parts of great franchises exclusive to consoles
Although at first the original concept of the crowd stealth version appealed to me, I'm having fun with this one. And Conviction's take on Rainbow 6's terrorist hunt is totally addictive.
@limitsora69 thanks for the reply. I wish the single player campaign was longer =( but in light of the other modes that you mentioned it does add extra length. I just feel like lengthy single player campaigns is like a myth nowadays.
@GoldenOne2435 Not really. The only one Conviction has direct ties to is Double Agent, and even then, it summarizes the relevant points. Its very standalone.
See splinter cell conviction was my last favorite splinter cell game It had sams true voice The new fisher seems to be more serious Not like the old Sam. I hope in splinter cell 7 they change it back!
I didn't have any problem with the new voice, sure it isn't the original but it was great work and I don't see anything wrong with Fisher being more serious. He's a former Navy S.E.A.L., what do you expect?
Blizz Förster Omg, they fucking better make another Splinter Cell!! Blacklist was great! They finally got back into the Chaos Theory days and suddenly they're done? I dont think so. They need to do at least 1 more. Maybe even 2 or 3. Chaos Theory 2 would probably fly off the shelves and be in the running for game of the year if they would just get their heads out of their asses! It's all right there in black and white: this is what we all want and love. This is whats going to sell out and make SC great again. DO IT!!!
I haven't played this game yet,but it looks like it's just a simple over-the-shoulder shooter now,not that much stealth involved, and i have watches Let's Plays,Theo ld splinter cells where stealth games, you only used your weapons as a last resort, and here you get infinite pistol ammo? correct me if i am wrong,as i've said already,i haven't played this game, but i have seen one video where the pistol ammo bar shows 18/- ammo
@gyarreto I took about 7 hrs on it in the middle difficulty for the single player, but maybe I'm just really noob. Its not open world and you can play the game again when you're done to earn achievements that grant weapon and suit upgrade points, so you have better weapons for multiplayer.
I played the first three splinter cell games on the original Xbox awhile back. Can anyone tell me how this one is in relation to the previous ones? I loved the stealth factor in the games, and when it came to full out combat, I wasn't really interested. I liked the levels where I could make it through the entire building by planting sticky cameras and sniping people from far away with my night vision on. I hope this game isn't too weighted in the combat area.
I have to say Chaos Theory is still the best when you look at the whole package, but the single player content on this one is the best. I played all the SC games except for Double Agent, but I think Im gonna pop that one in soon.
I like Chaos Theory the most because it improved upon the series in so many ways. Since conviction/blacklist stray away pretty far from the original formula, people didn't like that, but in Chaos Theory it added many cool little aspects to the game. It added multiple pathways, secondary objectives ( I don't think the older ones had these) a knife, and the level design was fantastic; each level had some kind of neat little way to interact with the environment (for example, cutting open the back
of a tent with your knife.) Yeah, Sam did look pretty weird, gotta admit, but at the time the visuals were a huge jump from Pandora Tomorrow. It did make killing enemies easier with a sniper rifle and shotgun, but only in the levels where absolute stealth wasn't forced were those weapons available. Plus, there was cooperative play for the first time in the series and improvements to Spies vs. Mercs, which added a lot of replay value
I played through the original Spinter Cell and Pandora Tomorrow using the first model of the xbox controller. That takes skill. BTW, I knew Mark would never use stealth when I first saw the link to this vid.
My personal favorite is between the original and Chaos theory. I think PT overall is good but there were certain levels that I really hated (mostly the jungle levels.) I guess I could see some people didn't like it, but I'm just adding that it has an epic steelbook!
@ScarletSnake Yes i agree! Went i heard she was still alive i went "WHAAAAA?!", that was the main setup for both this and Double Agent!. Made me not really care about the story, i felt cheated because that was the big emotional plot point of the series. I hated how they completely revamped the gameplay mechanics and smooth controls from the earlier games. It did not feel like Splinter Cell at all. I liked the "mark and execute" concept though.. I just wish it was in a better SC game!
i had heard that there wasn't much stealth in this at all. Now, as a part-time gamer who is just about to finish 'Blacklist', this will be my very next game. And I want STEALTH! I mean, every time I read a thread or a commwnt section about any Splinter Cell game, 99% of the talk is about stealth and how much each game has. My point here is that the people who make these games should know that we want stealth. Not a little, not sometimes, we want a lot, a ton, all the time! Without stealth then this is nothing more than another FPS, Call Of Duty type of game. When we go out and buy a game, we pick up Splinter Cell for one reason: *STEALTH* So then why do the makers of splinter Cell games try to steer away from stealth on occasion? I even heard that Double Agent had little to no stealth at all. They really need to give us what we want, something like Chaos Theory meets Blacklist.
I like the aspect of being stealthy and at the moment i have no real stealth games, so I keep on playing splinter cell Double agent and Conviction demos. Alot.
You can be stealthy in this game. Look up and SCC stealth playthroughs. And this game is a Splinter Cell title, whether you want to acknowledge it or not.
@uglylikesin just because you can get through it without being silent doesn't mean that you have to be loud. Me and a friend went through the entire game without being detected and the game was rather fun.
@zelinski23 you CAN play this game like the old splinter cell in fact you have too. You still have to be stealthy in this game. You can't run an gun. The only change is that now you can be aggressive+stealthy or quiet+stealthy. That's the beauty of this game and I prefer it that way because in the old splinter cell you had to hide every time and couldn't survive a simple firefight. That style was getting old. But the same light and dark mechanics are still present with every other stuff and new.
i settled for the IGN review because i didn't think you would do a SPC review man! I WAS WRONG! but IGN review was pretty fair... i guess :P good rating
@P0mt3 LOL, thanks. But is it bias to demand perfection from people who had enough time to be prefect? Or are we going to settle for just better graphics and same old same old? We don't want gimicks, we want substance and real thoughtful gaming.
@SamFisherCell, just because you have been a fan of both series for years doesnt mean you can decide what someone else thinks of a franchise =p its purely opinion if you like the hitman franchise more than splinter cell
Yes, co-op is more fun! I play 42 games on XBOX 360 with my friend every weekend! I bashed the door open screamed "THIIIIS ISS SPARTAAAAAAA"!!! We are making (a) TAS Resident Evil 5 with unlimited ammo. It's very hard without saves!!!
annnddd you were correct :/ bummer. They REALLY should consider a deluxe edition of Blacklist packaged with Conviction. Either that or release it as a PSN download when Blacklist launches. I know that's just wishful thinking...but that'd be fantastic
This looks way better than Double Agent. This looks like it might be the best one. Some say Chaos Theory, but I think I've played that one too much. Double Agent (at least for the PC) was... uninteresting. The first two are kinda... to restricting maybe. When you've played Chaos Theory the first two feel obsolete

+Tortoise Of Legends You haven't played the previous ones?No wonder you like this game.Very dumbed down and definitely not for hardcore SC fans.
Sam Nate Don't get me wrong, I realise it was dumbed down from what I've seen of the original games, I just think that, even though it's not a great Splinter Cell game, it's still a good game overall.
Yeah it's a good game, but not for someone who has been with the series like me.But I respect your choice.
I prefer pandora tomorrow and the first game haven't played chaos theory but it's on my radar. Double agent was pretty cool and black list was a mix bag. We need another pandora tommrow or chaos theory from what I've seen is the right direction.

Awesome review , loved every second of this .
Thank you sir I laughed my socks off at your rhetoric. You are one clever, and funny guy.
Oh and thanks for all your reviews. I Always watch them when I see you have reviewed a game.
"give me a hint what to do" LOL!
Splinter Cell was an xbox exclusive game..it always was untill Blacklist
"Lemon juice, lemon juice, it's good for you, good for you..."
@uglylikesin
hmm
i havent played a splinter cell game before
and this game looks quite good to me
would you recommend buying it?
I rented this and enjoyed it. Also maybe because I am in Scotland but I never once saw advertisements, I hear after I have played it that they are everywhere but I never noticed them. Hmmm maybe they are only in the US version? Or I suck at seeing adverts.
@Pendry007 you asking if can play single player co-op? then the awnser is no. there is a special coop story mode
i love his hilarious reviews!
My Splinter Cell Dream Game: Chaos Theory meets Blacklist, with open world or even semi-open world, way more guns and gadgets to choose from, as well as carry. And more options for the weapons. Such as to silence any and all, keep the several options on the sticky cameras like in Blacklist.
One more thing, make it extra long. I'm talking, like "Fallout 3 long".
Oh, and one more thing, you should *_definitely_* be able to fuck Grim.
@gamer56595857 cant you get one one in the "extras" thing?
is the online play only co-op and thats it? no everyone againts everyone or teams??
@AwesomeNub well i assume you can match make and i know you can play it on single player with the A.I.
how do you change Sams clothing?
I think it might have been up (or down) on the D-pad.
@gyarreto you got other offline and online modes
He really summed up the story pretty well.
I just love the beginning. *throws grenade*
Solider: You know what, Fisher?!
BAAAOONG!
did anyone else have this problem where they complete the game and then later when you pop in the disc it says they cant find any save game and you lose all your progress and cant play a level without restarting the game.
@santiainen who gave you english lessons? btw inecom could you do a review about rainbow six vegas 1 or 2?
I love how in so many games there always seems to be barrels of explosive liquids around enemy encampments. "Alright guys, we'll set up a guard post here, and store all our gas right here...next to the mounted .50 cal."
Should i get this game?

Hey eh is this an open world game ? so can you still play after your finnish ?? and is the Campaign seriously that short ?? 5 hours ?
@DarkPeppaZ Oh, the guy from Uncharted lol... Ok, thanks... But isn't he, like, an adventurer, and not a super spy (except for that Museum Level) ?
@kvj1989 if you notice in the title sequence it says "classic reviews" AND "modern reviews".....if you check out some of the other vids on this channel there are ALOT of classic game reviews
Have they made the NES version yet?
mark i love to just lay back and watch some of your reviews
@timayyNYC 5-6 hours,
never gets old though
and multiplayer is another 5 hours
so 10 hour game
add Deniable Ops and you have a 12 hour game
@dcj991 so does he like gun games?
microsoft paid for exclusivity rights on this game
@contracts47 thats not a problem its a design choice...its meant to be more stealthy than guns blazing
nice discovery on Lemon juice song there. I had to check that out when I play on 2nd run. Thanks!
@12martin12rojas Not exactly.. i would say ME 1 is the x360 equivalent not considering the genre but the quality, and the fact that they are both parts of great franchises exclusive to consoles
Oh and by the way, did you ever play the first two games in the series?
@DarkPeppaZ Who the hell is Nathan Drake?
thats your opinion but i dont like the beatles so how do you feel?
Although at first the original concept of the crowd stealth version appealed to me, I'm having fun with this one. And Conviction's take on Rainbow 6's terrorist hunt is totally addictive.
can someone tell me how long the single player campaign was?
Haha The lemon juice song ftw: D
good review as always
@limitsora69 thanks for the reply. I wish the single player campaign was longer =( but in light of the other modes that you mentioned it does add extra length. I just feel like lengthy single player campaigns is like a myth nowadays.

I passed this game for 6 hours on the XBOX 360. This game is the best of the Tom Clancy's!
I played the first three splinter cell games on the original Xbox awhile back. Can anyone tell me how this one is in relation to the previous ones? I loved the stealth factor in the games, and when it came to full out combat, I wasn't really interested. I personally liked the slight "open-world" feel to Chaos Theory and Double Agent, it's what kept me replaying missions to try different stuff
This or Alpha Protocol?
Does anyone have an official answer to why Ubisoft got rid of Sam's knife?
awesome i been waiting for a review of this ..wanna know if its any good,
@001blackwing i know but it is only 6 months untill the rights are back to ubisoft because it is a timed exclusive.
I'm really excited that this is coming to Mac on October 19!
I played through the original Spinter Cell and Pandora Tomorrow using the first model of the xbox controller. That takes skill. BTW, I knew Mark would never use stealth when I first saw the link to this vid.

For Christ sake, fisher. The mission is over!

AlphaDeltaXray double agent had plenty of stealth sections you could even play it all non leathal if i remember correctly.
@slosha69 How are they evil?
@Muscledeth2201 no, the splinter cell books were wrote after the games came out
"I think that the Vectrex sucks!" lol You my man, have a great sense of humor :D
@Cryroth its been officially announced for ps3. ubisoft said it will be out in 6 to 10 monthes
you should definitely review Double Agent or Chaos Theory next. Those games are awesome
it is
I like the aspect of being stealthy and at the moment i have no real stealth games, so I keep on playing splinter cell Double agent and Conviction demos. Alot.

you should review the ps3's hd rerelease of splinter cell, Pandora tomorrow, and Chaos theory.
@Elephantintheroom01 lol. what the hell does hitman to do with stealthness? almost nothing, lol
I still have fond memories of playing Chaos Theory online for the original xbox :D
Well i think its understandable storywise that Sam does not focus on stealth as he used to be, he has nothing to lose anymore
@zelinski23 you CAN play this game like the old splinter cell in fact you have too. You still have to be stealthy in this game. You can't run an gun. such a fun game...the infiltration mode is hard though, get seen and that's it, thank him upstairs they put checkpoints on it
looked great. Think i will have to give it a shot.
i settled for the IGN review because i didn't think you would do a SPC review man!
I WAS WRONG!
but IGN review was pretty fair... i guess :P good rating
Marc must have the best Job in the world, with so much spare time to play all those video games.
yeah i loved the controls from double agent because they seemed to flow with the game
Thank you so much for this gameplay !!
I own this game on PC and i have to say...its my favorite Splinter cell
Jason Bourne meets Taken , I like it !
@dukee155 you might need a monster pc to play it but on the other hand its cheaper for pc
Am I the only person who's a hardcore fan of the old ones but a hardcore fan on this aswell?
"Wait a second that's a conspiracy!"
"Well, it's good enough for me."
annnddd you were correct :/ bummer.
Very nice review :D
haha you are my favorite reviewer! your so funny! keep it up!
@DaMineSweeper Your friend is the son of Andrew Ryan?Awesome.
God damn it! It's not available on the Vectrex!!!
