It's been really awesome watching you pick up this game and gain mastery. The epic scale of TA based RTSes has been leagues above all the other typical games in the genre and it's never gotten enough attention. Thank you, thank you, thank you for playing, streaming, and posting VODS of this title, as someone who's been a fan of TA since the Spring open source version in 2006
Yeah, the genre is massively under-appreciated. I think it's jus too overwhelming for most players to learn. Still, should be popular to watch, at least. Far as I'm concerned, Planetary Annihilation is the most impressive RTS ever made.
Hey winter, thanks for showing us this game. I have fallen in love with it and even tried my first few casts on it. You're the best man, can't wait till you're the primetime Stormgate streamer
@@jamyorday But why? That's so similar to BAR. It would just be re-learning a bunch of stuff to arrive back where he started, but with worse controls. The only other game in this genre that would different enough to be worth it is Planetary Annihilation.
@@catbert7 they are pretty similar! But the 4 different factions offer much more variety in units, I find the battles are bigger in FA, don’t get me wrong, I’m playing BAR a ton right now and loving it! I think I just want to see his opinion on that game
Winter, I absolutely love this game's content. Please keep it up and occasionally post tip videos like you did 3 days ago! (Beginner Tips & Starter Build) Keep having fun!
When you press f2 while you try to construct, it will tell you where you can actually place that building. That map is different for every unit you select and every building you try to place.

You might benefit from setting your light spam on maneuver or roam instead of hold position. Alot of the time they were sitting in bad positions while enemies moved near them. Hold position is great for early game micro but it weakens you in the late game spam.
Lol that enemy hill on the bottom was a real pain :D You know that t2 missile bots or t3 shivas can reach that spot, shiva also has 1300 range i think which is highest range of towers.
Definitely checking this game out. I tried Supreme Commander and the other one but they both felt a like a bit much. This one seems to have trimmed some of the fat and things get going right away.
generaly ull only want 4-5 metalmakers per advanced and never stop building more energy, the more metal u get the more energy ull be consuming too. u can also put the slider for conversion further down for a metal boost
I've tried FAF after BAR. It really feels inferior. Not bad at all, but a bit obsolete if it wasn't for the nostalgia for the people who still play it.
Have you played much BAR? It's better than FaF in pretty much every way... Cept maybe the ferry command functionality. I can't stand how air units ai in FaF are utterly broken at scale. They can't even fly properly less than 10 minutes into the game regardless of performance overhead... And the stupid fighter micro that players have to do at high levels to achieve anything is lame and defeats the whole purpose of how air should function. Don't think those problems can ever be fixed with that engine, and BAR doesn't suffer that fundamental air issue.
@@kirktown2046 better waypoint management, race diversity, and as you mentioned, ferry. Air is a little janky in BAR too, bombers especially, I take your point though
@@atrtsh Good point on the waypoint management. Though it's pretty good in BAR, SupComm lets you delete orders and move queued build positions which is really nice. Bombers in bar having no vision seems pretty balanced, they become MUCH smarter with vision from scouts or loitering gunships/fighters.
Amazing! Out of interest, why do you keep giving the same units move commands over and over again in quick succession? (At least that looks like what you're doing?)
I love when people focus on apm. In reality it's from this: 44:26. Just look at this, he did 0 actions for 25 seconds, he just spammed move for this jugg and this did nothing. And apm countered a lot of actions. Who cares how fast you clicking mouse or keyboard when youre still doing nothing. APM is very bad indicator of skill, literally useless. It's important to be fast. Faster you are doing certain tasks - you're better. But more clicks to do same things - you're not better.
You know this but construction turrets and building units costs energy which cancels your metal income from metal converters which again slows down your building speed. This is why after finishing a reactor you shouldn't make even more converters and instead make more generators. A constant overflow of energy is needed or your whole thing shuts down. It is basically like being supply blocked in sc2 but worse. Also doesn't the unit spam lvl up your enemy units crazy fast?
There is never a good reason to overflow energy. If you're overflowing, you should convert it, reinvest it, or store it. Ideally T2 convert it... or share with teammates. Construction spend both metal and energy based on what they're building, they don't magically cause more energy drain than the unit/building requires. You'd have to have a really unbalanced economy for it to feel like supply blocking. Veterancy, though pretty cool, isn't usually something that obviously wins or loses games, but spamming t1 units often does. For most units it's too hard to hold onto the vet and keep them repaired, everything tends to die and get reclaimed... Res bots will NOT retain the veterancy of the units they raise. [Edited, resbots don't retain veterancy, only capture does.]
@@PeterRudesindus You're saying overflowing energy is good and I don't understand? xD None of the top players overflow when ecoing. You simply use the Energy Conversion slider to control when fabricators eat energy.
@@kirktown2046 If this was tic-tak-toe, you wouldn't understand that the game was about placing 3 marks in a row. BAR is more complex but you are on that level of not understanding the game.
@@kirktown2046 Okay let me do the thinking for you. Imagine that the game was a farm and your goal as the farmer is to expand the population of your livestock. You do that by buying more food with the money you make from selling said livestock. Now what would you do if you want to use the income from the livestock to also build a house? Well according to you, you would just invest half of your income each year into building your house even if that means not feeding 50% of your livestock. (The livestock are your metal converters/extractors, the money you are investing into building your house is energy and metal) The actual smart thing to do in this situation is to just build slower and not starve your production (your livestock) of materials (food/energy) so that you can continue to use the income of your livestock to build at a slower speed instead of crashing your whole economy and basically supply blocking yourself. lol So to sum it up, the reason why there can be no balance between energy and metal is because you need energy to make more energy. Your goal is to always be on the edge of barely having an overflow but still ALWAYS having it. Always have enough to Invest into your livestock so you can pay for more houses. Never let some of your livestock starve because that will slow down everything.
I love the game so far, and love the content. But holy hell is it hard to follow what's happening. Maybe cause I'm watching on my phone and everything is so smol?
Never enough BAR videos man. Keep em coming!

I like combining jammer bots when pushing or to cloud building positions. Then it’s easier to stack AA under the jamming

I would have given that one guy one solar panel and one mex to shut them up lol.
If you're this into BAR you should give FAF a try, suspect you'd really like it. The races are less symmetric and it's much more diverse
