@@__Brandon__ Another thing I always thought would be interesting in these kinda games, would be if each team had an assigned spectator (that only saw what the team saw) to communicate with. I did something like this once with my brother and some friends. The extra player has so much more time to really carefully study the battlefield, and spot both weaknesses in the team as well as opportunities. It really changed how the game played.
I actually love that all the units and buildings of the losing team blow up bit by bit at the end, it makes for this big fireworks show followed by soothing silence as you contemplate the end of the game. It's very well done !
Very true. Although it does still confound me on why the majority of players still insist on building their base so tightly packed that it's a one-shot powder keg waiting to go off. Even without the fancy spacing commands, it's not that hard to just build quick lines of wind turbines rather than solid blocks. Or to build your fusion reactors in little groups of two, rather than a glowing mass of 8 with your energy converters and storage weaved between them like a fuse of demolition cord.
@@UnknownSquid I'd imagine the main reason is that if you're in a position that the enemy can take those out then you're still fairly screwed regardless so why bother
Best BAR cast I've seen, I hope devs are inspired by this to make casting more a priority to make it even better. I've been playing this game a little bit here and there for years now, but it seemed so much to learn, and I didn't really feel like investing the time. But by watching your streams and vids, I got motivated and am slowly improving and enjoying the game more, thanks
Thank you for the video!! It would be nice during the openings to talk about bots vs vehicles vs air openings different players are going for, and what type of roles people go for in these bigger games. Even just an explanation of support vs Frontline, and different ways to hold a front would be super helpful!
@@EugeneParallax I hear you, but I think that during the initial sets of videos, I'd rather know what they are doing "Oh X player is opening double metal into bots" or whatever opener, than tidbits about each of the players who are playing. I just felt like the opening 5 minutes, when it's easiest to follow people's builds, wasn't used to set the groundwork for the players lineups very well.
@@TheDeathlyG I agree, but I just think that many viewers might not find it informative, at least not to understand implications for the chosen strategy in context of the team matchup. I actually think it will be a perfect second tutorial video to explore these different tech paths and the advantages/risks they introduce.
really enjoyed this cast, i wasnt sure how well this game would be in terms of casting but everything seems to come together just great, thanks for making great videos
It's a nightmarishly hectic game to try and keep track of every important moment, but at the same time, there's never a single dull moment either. The constant back and forth, and high potential for shock comebacks, have always made the TA/SupCom genre of RTS my favourite to watch by far.
The EMP "missiles" were actually self-detonating spy bots. And if you see a crater this big (and don't see another one just as big), you know that you have missed a nuke. Excellent camera work tho, you got several big events just in time. Also, nice comments: nuke hits base - "well, that certainly not gonna help".
This video randomly popped up on my recommended so I started watching. I noticed an uncanny resemblance to total annihilation so I looked up the game and realized it was indeed a homage game. Now gonna try the game lol
it's neat recognizing player names. and being like "OHhyeah, I have fought these guys some." Including having uhh I think evolved monkey going "Poor soul" on one 8v8 as 3 players shoved three economies worth of spam into my front line.

Winter, I've watched about half your BAR videos (and 99 percent of your SC2 videos) this year (absent permanent twitch sub as well) TL/DR this is SO MUCH BETTER than watching you play 🎉🎉🎉🎉 and it's as fun as watching SC2 pro casts. I stuck with BAR bc it's clearly a great game, but when you're playing (note I've only watched teams) I have little idea what's happening and the huge zoom required means it's just ugly. Like, it might as well be huge Atari 5200 games with nukes. And there's no NARRATIVE, no tactical combat or micro. I mean it may be happening but I can't tell. Game is like "the blobs are making blobs" for 15 minutes and then a commander dies or the beaver dam collapses. Whereas here and now you can zoom in, see the missiles flying and tell a story. Love it!
a lot of the higher ranked players are in europe so you'll see quite a few high ranks playing at european time. most of the time all are welcome to join games with the higher ranks but sometimes we will put a minimum rank lock on the battle room.
Would it be cool if players were only able to control a squad of units from first person perspectiv? And switching viewpoints between cockpits when the lead unit is destroyed. Able to switch models/buy more units back at base. You would need 2-3 teammates attacking together to get a diverse composition. Would get the feel that instead of commanding overhead you are more in it like battlefield 2142
Great game, downloaded 2 days ago and had my first game yesterday, this RTS game is soooo good! But then this video also make me question myself will I be able to be this good, because they are REALLY good.
This game is a god damn spectacle with anything more than 4v4, I don't want to be mean but this 8v8 makes Supreme Commander looks like "baby first RTS" :P
slightly faster when you have buildings queued up. The placement allows you to minimize the amount of time the builder is moving around instead of constructing.
I keep seeing players placing metal extractors AROUND metal nods, is there a reason for this? I thought you could only get metal from a nod when building an extractor on it.
The reasoning is that an ex placed directly on the node is easy to kick out blindly, such as with manual area-attack order or bombing runs. Also, when you start the match, placing exes on the nodes will require moving around, while you can place them offset standing still which saves several seconds of buildup and can marginally affect further plays (especially given some builders are not very maneuverable).
In practice, press Z to build your mex and point your mouse toward the desired metal, it'll automatically built it as far toward direction as possible while getting max metal. So this corner building takes pretty much no thought/effort.
Lol. I was so close to posting a comment about this last night, but held off not wanting to be toxic or judge too quickly, but it seems I'm not the only one. I played with MBT last week. Around the 7 minute mark he totally freaked out in chat at the rest of the team for not sending him enough backup soon enough, scribbling a mess all over the map like an angry toddler, and implied the game was over. Then we all rolled forwards and wiped out the enemy. Was a totally one sided match. He didn't even die or get pushed or anything, just had a couple light laser towers taken out. Seriously needs to chill and lay off the chat.
@UnknownSquid seems right. In one game he chastised winter for not taking a starting spot and then demanded winter give him a level 10 mineral deposit which winter had immediately ran out and grabbed with his commander instead of starting at that spot. Good player for sure but ffs.
A great game, but the admins are hyper-active. Just one example from today, as per their mod bot: "(player) has been moderated. Reason: Griefing by destroying your own base even if the game is clearly lost, just resign instead., Restriction: Login" (2 day ban)
the game seems intimidating and i atfirst quit after my first game because i got rockem sockemed by the easiest ai in the game.. but i retried it a few days ago and it seemed .. just so damn good!
Emp is just too strong. Ghost is too broken for what it can do.... wait.... wrong game. Those juggernauts are super menacing though! This game looks awesome , especially from a casted view.
As much as I enjoy BAR games on your channel, I feel like 45 minutes and longer per video is a commitment that makes it harder for me to click on a video. Initially I watched every bar video in it's entirety, and then it got hard and I thought that maybe that's because novelty has worn off and you are not yet knowledgeable enough about bar to provide commentary that would keep me hooked during slower parts of the game. But now that you give that commentary, I realized that maybe it's not the reason. I don't really know the solution or if you even need to change anything and it's simply a "me" problem. Just wanted to give some feedback due to feeling conflicted about it as of late, because I enjoy BAR games, but feel bad tanking the algorithm by not watching every video you make. Thank you for the great content you upload.
the game is good for the battles, must have been fun if ur not trying to win but other than that it was lost pretty fast and for teammates who want to go for wins it was not so fun and a waste of time
Well there is good oppostunities for comebacks, unlike many other strategy games, because you can revive your and enemy units and buildings, and you also can assist your surviving teammates in ways that allows them to turn the tide, such as with some of the bombing runs you've witnessed here. Resources are infinite, and so there's always opportunities to impact the outcome. It all depends on counters and what you may predict to happen in a few next minutes. For example, the river player could've invested into a Flagship, which is more-less a rapid-fire artillery piece that can cover almost the entire map and can whittle down even Juggernauts. There's no telling how it would end up in that case.
Man I would love to see what a coordinated 8v8 game would look like, where the players are all used to cooperating as a team, and strategize together.
With 3 1-minute timeouts per match
@@Veldrin92 I bet 1 minute mandatory timeouts every 10 minutes would increase the strategy level quite a bit. A lot of who can click faster these days

BAR buildings are so volatile that it may as well be They Are Billions competitive: one enemy gets into the base and it's all over.
