Good videos you have going on there now pete I've watched a good few of them now. Painting now for a good 20yrs now and for some reason the start of this yr i joined up to a spray course and i must admit i was sceptical but 1 month later brought the exact set up you had and set on getting it to work. The work speed is night and day, Masking up i already knew for a good while and that again time wise its really worth it. Out of curiosity how much faster was it with the pressure roller as compared to a 15 inch rolling manually? My production rates per hr would be 15-17 m2 per hr with cutting in tops only, And less for the hsl . Depending on job size ill still roll but id say 100%trim then mask up then walls to finish. I must admit, on the last house i just finished, had i not had my sprayer id really would of lost my time, deep cornice 2.7 m high ceilings not good and i kind of underestimated the time taken when i did the quote. As for times, one room i did with new plaster lids and walls 13 mins. walls only cut in and roll manually 2nd coat 30 mins.😐 But in all honestly the amount of effort used and how much less taxing on the body its really noticeable.
Hi Chris.. thanks for your feedback, I’ll always get back to you with any questions you may have and do my best to help.. you’ve made a great investment in your kit that will work hard for you.. you’re spot on with your approach and sounds like you’re on the right track.. my advise would be to always spray ceilings and woodwork.. like you’ve found, so much quicker and less taxing on the body, and you can’t beat the finish.. regarding a pressure roller, they become faster on the bigger jobs, and certainly handy for exterior work / render etc.. in this video I just wanted to present an idea to brush and roll walls up on the ceiling, then mask the walls to spray the ceiling.. I just showcased the pressure roller as an option, plus I’m a fan of using the technology.. you’re work rate, cutting in and using a roller is impressive.. might be worth trying a manual process on the walls, masking off the walls, then spraying the ceiling last.. it is quick.. be interesting if it’s quicker than your manually cutting in 👍 ..great to have your input on the channel.. keep in touch my friend.. regards Pete
@@PaintHQ I think these days as a painter and decorator you kind of have to be always looking ahead and how to improve the system of our works, again yes i can cut in pretty well but if i can speed up the process with neat lines then why not and have a go, with a good working system helps and improves this. As for the system you mentioned there ,i take it trim 1st, mask up walls ,then mask up to lids then lids finish, but wouldn't the drying times with the walls and lids be tricky when masking up though? And how do you fine the purple 3m tape dose it blead though or is pretty Sharpe? 3m blue works pretty well I've found, also using Q1 yellow and soon Q1 green. Also after watching your job on the hall stairs and the landing video had the exact job. So i set about finishing all of the woodwork inc staircase spray style, and man i think from now this is the way to go ,mask up 1800 psi and off you go 👌. 36 yrs old and still learning 😭 keep up the good work dude👍
Hi Chris, you’re very wise with your thought process.. regarding the order and drying times.. so for all spray including sprayed walls (you could back roll if preferred), you’re looking at least 3 days (not incl any prep days.. Day 1, woodwork.. day 2, walls.. then day 3, ceiling.. so each day the substrate is dry to take the masking up.. I rate they process on a HSL, spraying walls up on to ceiling, then only needing a ladder once to mask cut line and protect walls, the ceiling can be sprayed from the ground and all going well the masking can be pulled down from the ground also.. if you wasn’t spraying walls, this process is common, again not incl prep and more work on day 1.. day 1, ceiling and woodwork, then day 2 the walls can be cut and rolled.. regarding tapes, I need to give the 3M tapes a run out.. so far, I’m a fan of Deltec.. Gold for masking cured woodwork.. then Purple for masking emulsion (ceiling cut line or feature walls).. I use Q1 general purpose (cheaper production tape), on the hand masker.. if I’m masking a critical line, such as cured woodwork, I’ll use Deltec Gold on the hand masker.. well done on your success with spraying a staircase 👏👏👏 ..I know what you’re saying, I’m learning all the time also.. thanks for the support brother.. regards Pete
If you’ve never used an airless sprayer before, spraying ceilings can be a good place to start.. Try this.. 👉 First brush and roll the walls, no need to cut in, you can brush wall colour up onto the ceiling. 👉 Next day, mask the cut line, protecting the wall using a 3M Hand Masker and 99” plastic.. Then airless spray the ceiling.. it’s quick, efficient and less taxing on the body Vs using a roller.. Plus the finished result is amazing.. you can do it too 🎨💨

Hi Gareth, I currently use Toupret Quick Fill In the ready mix for general / deeper fills and Fine Surface filler, (also ready mix) for anything less than 1mm.. I also keep a powder with me, Toupret TX110 which is a rapid dry, and no limit I believe on the fill depth.. hope this helps buddy.. let me know how you get on.. regards Pete
Great video pete thanks,I'm interested in the line fed roller as most houses I paint are occupied either with people or lots of furniture etc,the roller obviously has less overspray so less masking?is that the reason for using and does it put enough paint on the roller and how does it compare to a normal say 12inch roller being dipped into a scuttle?is it less fatiguing do you find, are you strictly a graco man?the wagner sf23 with heated hose looks amazing and seems to spray well even at 60 bar but its big money of course
Hey Edmond.. thanks for your input.. yeah a Pressure Roller adds another dimension to how you can tackle an internal painting project.. in this video, I’m actually using a small 4.5m hose, so it’s a nice compact / small setup, with paint from the hopper feeding to the roller head at the pull of the gun trigger.. just 500 psi of pressure is needed and short trigger pulls and paint seeps through the perforated roller sleeve.. once you master the technique, it’s just like using a standard roller and methodically rolling out in long strokes.. because there’s no dipping into a scuttle or tray, it’s cleaner too, there’s no risk of heavy paint on the edges to cause track marks.. don’t get me wrong, in my ‘manual’ painting days, I enjoyed the methodical process of using a roller and you can quickly build up speed.. but these Pressure Rollers certainly come into their own when having to roller large projects 👍 ..you have paint in demand.. you could run a longer line and the sprayer / paint could be in another room, or on another floor.. I do love the Graco brand, but I love spraying and the spray technology out there.. The diaphragm pumps by Wagner, such as the SF23 are great machines and I’ve heard all good things about the heated hoses and the science behind heating paint to lower viscosity 👌 ..I ran a survey on my UA-cam channel on heated hoses and the only negative seemed to be the cost.. it’s certainly an investment 👍 ..Hope I’ve covered everything my friend.. always happy to answer any questions if I can.. regards Pete
Another outstanding performance there Pete 👌🏻 I’m not sold on the them jet roller things tbh. Hi Allan, I always appreciate your feedback.. I get your dilemma, there advantages to either, I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on the Jet Roller to do a comparison video.. an advantage of the Jet Roller is you get a Cleanshot as part of the package, plus an in-line contractor gun (which is a bit more comfortable and would be beneficial when using the pressure feed).. plus you can use ‘off the shelf’ roller sleeves Vs the perforated sleeve required for the Pressure Roller.. advantage of the Pressure Roller is 100% no risk of overspray (just like a regular roller).. which makes the Pressure Roller very attractive for using on exteriors, such as render.. the Jet Roller is less overspray but not zero.. less because you can dial down the pressure and not be concerned about the perfect fan / tails.. because you roller over to finish.. some make a valid point that you could just simply back roll, which I get.. but my opinion is these accessories do quicken up the process and for me.. I like the using the technology 😆 ..all the best my friend.. regards Pete
Hi pete. I'm looking to buy a 517 tip for spraying masonry paint on pebble dash. I have the rac x guard . Which 517 tip should I get? the blue or green. I thought the green might help with overspray but then I was worried it's only for fine finishing and would not be productive? Any help be great thanks mate and I hope your keeping well.
Hi Mick, great to hear from you.. I’m well thank you 🙏 ..I’d go for the green LP 517, the low pressure technology will serve you better Vs the production / higher pressure blue tip.. Also, could a smaller size tip work, ie a LP 515 ..a .015 will have less material flow, if it suits the thickness of the paint, you may gain more control.. when spraying pebble dash, try a lower pressure (you may get tails), see how the paint lays on the rough texture.. you may need to back brush the first coat.. then also try a higher pressure, just to see how that strategy works for driving the paint into the rough surface.. trade off is more bounce back / overspray.. but it’s worth trying both strategies as to which works for you in terms of speed and ease in which to complete the job.. let me know how it goes, Hope I’ve been some help.. regards Pete
Another great video thanks. What's the time scale on a job like that one? I'm trying to get my head around how I'd work it. I know with brush and roller I can do a room like that in a day and a half if it's minimal prep required. That'd be mirka over everything, toupret filler and 2 coats on all. I love using my sprayer, just trying to get used to using it more!
Hey buddy, thanks for the feedback.. I know what you’re saying, with drying times etc it’s about working out the order.. here’s a couple of scenarios.. a standard process with as you say minimal prep and looking to spray everything .. is this.. spray woodwork.. mask off and spray walls up onto ceiling.. mask off walls / cut line and spray in ceiling ..(so 3 days).. it can be lowered to 2 days, but you can’t spray everything.. it’s common to do this.. spray ceiling and woodwork on day one, then day two.. cut and roll the walls manually.. the spraying part in any scenario is much less laborious and taxing on the body and you won’t get a better finish.. I would always spray ceilings and woodwork and advocate other to do that.. It’s just a trade off then with drying times, (and if a sprayed finish on walks is practical) ..do you spray everything.. spraying everything (and possibly back rolling) would certainly be beneficial on bigger / multiple room projects 👍 ..Hope this helps my friend, keep in touch.. regards Pete
Thanks for the great reply (as usual). I certainly love the spray finish on ceilings and woodwork, soooo much easier on the body, faster and better results! Not really ventured into spraying the walls too much. Did a new extension in all white the other day (no woodwork). Spray finish on the ceiling, back rolled the walls (first time doing it). Was pleasantly surprised at how quick it was, and also how much easier on the body it was!
I usually try to always spray ceilings and closets then trim on day 1, and then do walls with a roller. (this is assuming you're doing a whole house). I haven't found a way to conveniently do walls yet with a sprayer, and find these innerfeed rollers too slow for my taste, and the jetroller (the one that sprays directly under your roller nap impractical but slightly faster). It's also a heavier setup to me for little added benefit. I'd rather use a 14" setup and rip through the walls with it that way.
How do you like it I have a Titan jet roller where it has a spray head where it just spray right onto the roller but it does make some overspray or I can adjust the sprayer to spray on the wall basically like back rolling but I'm looking for something a little bit easier how do you like the injection roller The crush or pressure roller My system's about $400 I can buy this thing at Home Depot or Lowe's for $99 Just let me know Thank you Nice video
Hey buddy, great to hear from you.. I’m acutely a fan of the Graco Pressure Roller - clean up is not too bad, but does take a bit longer because you have to flush through the inner feed holes.. you do get quicker, and it’s worth doing because the replacement Graco sleeves are expensive.. naturally with a pressure feed roller, there is zero overspray.. great for outside work.. i like the Jet Roller, there is a bit more of a technique to master - you do need to shoot just below the roller head, only on the down stroke.. also lower the pressure (tails are ok), that way overspray is minimum.. clean up with a jet roller is quicker Vs pressure feed, and you can use regular sleeves 👍 hope this helps my friend, keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙💯
I run a similar rig I have a 395 but the next general hopper. Oh it's about a gallon and a half paint self priming, actually brought it to a machine shop and have the tube made longer so when I fill it it's further away from the machine. Sometimes I put it on my hand cart that way I can have my partner roll it around when I paint the same way with you just not sure on the Greco pressure roller versus my Titan jet roller.
Hi Pete hope you're good and was waiting on a new up load thank you. I've ordered my gx21 with hopper kit from sprayman also ordered a cleanshot and a 25cm extension as I've noticed those are meant to help. I'm kind of scared and excited to try haha. My first job is a 1 bed apartment where walls and ceilings are one colour. The ceiling are around 3.5 meters how would I go about spraying something that high? Would you recommend a certain size extension?. Also is it just a 60 gun mesh I'd need for emulsions? Does the gx21 have another filter on the unit or is it just gun filter. Thank you and keep up the good work
Hi Callum, ah nice 👍 you’ve purchased some great kit there that will serve you well 👏👏👏 ..Regarding the filter, you’re right a 60 mesh in the gun is right for emulsions.. there is a small onboard ‘manifold’ filter that the video below will explain further.. it is a little impractical and some people choose to remove.. I’d rather not make that recommendation to you, it is a last line of defence to protect the pump, I’d hate something to happen.. you wouldn’t need to access it every time (it is a pain to get at Vs a ‘bottle’ manifold filter), but it would need to be checked periodically Graco GX21 Filter. Installing The Sprayman UK Manifold Filter ua-cam.com/video/a-Q3Y9TEBqM/v-deo.html Another option you can do is strain your paint into the hopper.. I use the Trimaco ones from SpraymanUK.. or a fruit and veg net / bag from Aldi will work 😆 Regarding ceiling height, from your description it’s about 1 metre above standard ceiling height.. depending on your height (I’m tall), I think the 25cm extension, coupled with your arm reached up and keeping a 12” / 30 cm distance from the ceiling.. you should reach 👍 .. One tip for you when starting out airless spraying.. move relatively quick, you can’t comprehend how quick paint can be released.. don’t panic if you miss a bit or you’re questioning coverage, you can soon fire a bit more over.. its easy when starting out to put too much on.. also watch out for the ceiling / wall cut line (top of the wall).. when spraying all one colour, it’s possible to get a heavy area because it’s getting hit multiple times (ceiling plus walls).. Hope this helps and covers your points.. good look and keep in touch, I’m happy to help and advise any way I can.. regards Pete
Thank you Pete you're a legend. I'm 6ft and will give it a try and if It doesn't reach I can just run out and pick and extension up I'm sure. I noticed you use an extractor? Would you recommend me getting one and I'm assuming you just position it in the corner of a room you're working in and put the hose thingy out of a window?. Thanks Pete
Hey Callum, you’re very welcome 🙏 ..height wise, it sounds like you’ll be fine buddy.. an extractor is very useful, especially with a lot of fine finish spraying, when ‘dust’ in the air could be a problem.. a HSL for example.. even more so if spraying with Air Spray / HVLP.. you’re right. you can set them up in a convenient spot and run the ducting out a door or window.. the ducting is 5m and you can buy additional 5m lengths and join them 👍 ..keep in touch buddy.. regards Pete
Hey buddy, I get what you’re saying.. they do clean up very well.. I’ve used a longer nap on an exterior, performed great 👍 .let me know how you get on, keep in touch.. regards Pete

@@PaintHQ thanks so much pete I'll get the green one and let you know glad your keeping well buddy. Thanks again
You’re welcome anytime 🙏
I'm assuming spray over 3 days isn't 3 full days, more like half days for a couple of them? Could potentially do 2 properties at once?
You’re doing great my friend, your thought process is spot on and have truly embraced spraying 💯.. well done, keep going 👏👌👍😆 ..regards Pete
Hiya buddy, what tape do you use with the hand masker?
I’d rather not make that recommendation to you, it is a last line of defence to protect the pump, I’d hate something to happen.. you wouldn’t need to access it every time (it is a pain to get at Vs a ‘bottle’ manifold filter), but it would need to be checked periodically

Another option you can do is strain your paint into the hopper.. I use the Trimaco ones from SpraymanUK.. or a fruit and veg net / bag from Aldi will work 😆
Regarding ceiling height, from your description it’s about 1 metre above standard ceiling height.. depending on your height (I’m tall), I think the 25cm extension, coupled with your arm reached up and keeping a 12” / 30 cm distance from the ceiling.. you should reach 👍 ..
Thanks Pete, speak to you on the next upload buddy and will keep you updated on how I get on haha
unfortunately the sleeve’s of graco are to expensive and very poor quality.
I got the sleeve’s for outside hope that quality is better!
Hey buddy, I get what you’re saying.. they do clean up very well.. I’ve used a longer nap on an exterior, performed great 👍 .let me know how you get on, keep in touch.. regards Pete
