YES! I love Anno 1800 and its great to freshen your content up (not to say that I don't love your usual content) ! I'm excited to see what you can create in the future.
not sure if you're on a PC, but if you press CTRL + SHIFT + R, you can get first person view and walk through your city, it's really cool if you decorate the place nicely like you like to do!
Thank you so much for this comment, I spent hours exploring my cities yesterday :D. You can actually ride the bicycles, cars etc as well, though not ships as far as I can tell.
The reason your income fluctuated so much was because you're not meeting your resident's demands fully. If you press CTRL+Q it brings up a statistics screen it brings up what is being demanded (by other factories or your population) vs. what is currently being produced per minute. Also, selling soap to Eli is definitely a money-maker but potatoes are not as worthwhile. Also, steel is a pretty expensive process in the early-game so it's usually recommended to just buy some from traders until you get a more robust economy. That said, I love watching your Cities: Skylines playthroughs so I'd love to see some Anno 1800!
Really nice to see someone play the game with such an unusual building style. A few tips i havent seen people post for first time players: At world creation remove Beryl, she can be too challenging when you play for the first few times. Trade Unions dont inherently boost anything. They need special items to do anything. Placing them without an item means they will just eat up your money and influence. Your population can give you quests too and they are usually very easy to complete. When you spot a crowd with a star on top just click on it. The correct ratio is actually two grain farms -> 1 wind mill -> 2 bakerys: 1 farm produces 1 wheat per minute. A wind mill turns 1 wheat into 1 flour in a half a minute. Which means it can turn 2 wheat per minute into 2 flour. A bakery turns 1 flour per minute into 1 bread. Which means you need 2 bakerys to keep up with one mill. Fulfilling your populations needs for luxury goods is your biggest money source and should have high priority. Silos triple! the output of animal buildings and are nearly always worth it. 1 grain farm is enough to feed 5 silos. The A.I. players on the super small islands are considered "neutral A.I." They buy everything from you and buy specific goods for higher prices than normal (Selling Eli Bleakworth tons of soap is a strategy some people like to use early game) Finding Sir Archibald Blake is important, he is the guy who sells you steal beams which refresh over time. Producing them yourself is considered to be only worthwile once you reach the third population tier. A very important thing to not stress youself too much: when you reach the third population tier, if you own all the DLC, you get bombardet with quests for new regions and other stuff. The only one that is really necessary is the one for the new world expedition, you can save the rest for a point where you got nothing else to do.
Episode 2, please! Tip: there is a tab which shows the production/consumption ratio! Press the income status on the top left ingame and from there you can find the tab for production/consumption ratio which is a huge help to balance the economy. Don't forget to take islands early either, since capturing/buying from an NPC is very difficult unless if you are a much higher "tier" then them!
I would watch a series of you playing Anno 1800 Edit: you dont have to click "patrol route" when you send your ship around the map instead you can just right click where it should move. also I love how you plan your city and it looks really cool but in the beginning you should build blocks of houses and don't focus too much about aestetics since its expensive. I really like this video and would love a series but I also want to see you succeed.
😁😁😁 I literally started playing anno 1800 2 days ago, and now see you put up a video on it🥳 It would be awesome to keep this series going. Just a few tips (if I may) Use ctrl+Q to see statistics of your production line, this helps a lot with balancing the budget. Every anno start has to start with a huge population, so try less decorating(I know it's nice, but not effecient), and it saves on the budget early on. You don't need to set your ship on a patrol rout to send it somewhere, you can rather just click the right mouse button at the spot you want to send it. Combine shift and RMB to chain your ships locations (this helps a lot with exploring) Talking about exploring, you can just right mouse click on any point on the minimap, and your ship will go there. Lastly, do as many quests as you can in the early game for this is an easy way of getting quick cash, and sometimes valuable items/people that you can use in your ships/buildings. If someone don't give you a quest, you can click on any ship with a starbon it, or sometimes citizens in your city gives a quest, just look for the star and click on it. Sorry for all this, but it's just some basics of anno I wish I knew when I started the game. Good luck and keep up the great work
I just got this game last week! And I thought to myself, I wonder if City Planner Plays would get his hand on this one. I would also love to see you try Farthest Frontier!
I love anno and I hope this becomes a series since it would be great for this channel. Anno can be a difficult game but I would love to see your take on it.
I discovered your channel only a few days ago, and literally the first thing i searched is have you have played Anno 1800, and you did not had any videos from it. And yet here it comes. Awesome!
i literally subbed your channel for 2 things: 1: to learn better ways to build in City Skylines. 2: in the hopes you'd one day play this game!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH
Evidently The Phantom of the Opera originally had a full face mask like that, that's why all of the promotional art also has the full face (they changed it after and weren't about reprint everything), but they ended up deciding on half face because it was harder to see emotion the other way. Of course, V for Vendetta came in later and showed everyone that you don't have to see a face at all to convey emotion, but that was their thinking with the Phantom
The joke around 15 minutes in about people in Madison liking the bar reminded me of a great Charlie Berens joke in his last special. He's setting up a joke about how nobody other than people in Wisconsin say bubbler instead of drinking fountain, and he starts off by asking "When you're thirsty, where do you go?" and the whole crowd yells "the bar!". Charlie replies "oh cripes I forgot I was in Wisconsin". Anyway, great video! The game looks pretty fun.
I really loved this video and I'm glad to see the Anno devs went with an old-style Ceasar method of determining availability of a resource to the houses. This video was also refreshing because you weren't trying to cram as much as possible into as little space as possible like a lot of the other Anno 1800 LPs I've checked out.
Please please continue this as a series! Love anno. I am more of a hyper efficiency builder, so love to see your approach on things, in these types of games!
Hey! Love to see you playing things and especially happy to see you with Anno, which I absolutely love. Your village is beautiful, as they always are, however your strategy is not quite ideal. With production chains, you should really have the production building positioned between the resource and the warehouse/harbour - this is to shorten the distance that the horse carts have to move, because there is a limited number of them. Your sawmill being so far away from the lumberjack is just making the horse cart spend longer in collecting the resource - it should be midway between the lumberjack and the harbor or the nearest warehouse. Additionally, population will not be angry about not having a product until you actually unlock it - ie, when you had 100 population, they were perfectly happy without fish because they did not even know it was a thing in their little universe (I know, doesn't make much sense, but true story). So, be careful of growing the population too fast, past a specific unlock milestone before you actually have enough money to buy and maintain those production buildings. Once the need is unlocked, you want a significant part of your population to have their needs 100% satisfied so that they may upgrade - the houses will never fill unless all needs are full. Finally, be careful of building so near the coast - coastal real estate is precious and as time goes by, you will really need it to expand your harbor. Those can become truly humongous especially when you have shipyards as loads of fishing harbors, etc. With that said, your settlement is SO much prettier than all the ones I ever tried. When you reach the point of the game when there are tourists, it's going to be a hit for sure. Just maybe consult some of the production chain strategies - once your population is huge, those become very hard to balance, so better get it right from the start. Source: soooooo many hours playing this game it's not even funny.
After finishing the game (erudits, skyscrapers, all continents,...) I went into creative mode and I had no ideas for creating a beautiful city You just gave me part of the solution, many thanks for your creativity
I'd love to see more of this! I would suggest slowing down a bit and focusing more on the aesthetics since making nice-looking cities is my favorite thing about your channel!
YES.... FINALLY!!!!! Can't wait to watch this!!! You'll love it! Btw you should really group your industries together, the further away your saw mill is to your lumber yard for example, the longer it will take to produce that product. PLEASE FINISH THIS LETS PLAY!!!
Excited to see you play this game Phil. Note, the more citizens that are not working the more money you make as long as their needs are met. It's a weird mechanic imo. You'll see it when you click on your income in the top left tab, it'll show the citizens as a plus and your maintenance as a negative. Each citizen type also gives you higher income. Hope this helps. Cheers!
I watch your videos because I do like them, and also your voice is crazy soothing and stops all the random thoughts I have constantly and helps me sleep.
I really hope this video is successful because I want to see more of this even though this isn't a game that I see myself playing. I can't wait to see what you do with this city!
Oh! I commented you should try this months ago, as I'd be curious to see what kind of city you'd build. I'm so glad you tried it! Thanks for this Phil!
Hoping you continue this as a series! I love your content in CS, but I'd love to see you starting to tackle other games. That way, you don't get burnt out (and the community doesn't either) with the same game.
Oh wow!!! When I saw this I was so glad this morning!!! Because of the console edition that just went out last week on PS5 I was a little sad to put aside a little bit my Verde Beach watch to get some Anno 1800 elsewhere but now that Phil is doing a series (I hope), it's just great! Thx I will enjoy for sure!
I actually started off my passion with urban planning as a pretty young kid with ANNO 1503. I was something like 3 or 4 when my dad introduced me to the game, and although I was not good at all (stayed that way for many years 😂) I never lost interest in planning. Thank you for playing my favorite childhood series!!
Nice to see Anno get some attention! As someone who's more into the sociopolitical aspects of city building, having an option with a historical focus is so refreshing.
This pleases me greatly! I’ve played the other Anno games and have been eyeing this one with hunger. Now I know I definitely want it. I’m glad you seem to like it!
I only just realized U did this Ann1800 video a while back. It may feel overwhelming at first, but everything is well explained within game and U pick up things over time. Your building style is by no means optimal in terms of efficiency, but it's beautiful and unique and I think Ur audience would love to see some other games added to Ur "portfolio". Settings can be adjusted in sandbox mode so it becomes a story driven city builder with side missions and such without real danger from competitors or pirates (easy/creative mode). Please consider making more videos in Anno1800 or even small series.... pretty please ... please ;D
This reminds me of Zeus:Master of Olympus and I love it! Just downloaded the game from steam and after I figure out how to alleviate my traffic jams in cities skylines, I'm here baby
you should 100% do episode 2! AND 3 AND 4 tip: always place the market as close to your homes as possible. this means more happiness and money. also, build a lumber production chain first to get plenty of it. It's the most essential resource. leave plenty of space for buildings that produce happiness for civilians. you want to place these as close to the homes as possible, that's why it's best to place them in the center of neighborhoods. when you unlock a new level of the residence. You unlock a new building resource and build that chain as soon as possible. Also place emergency Servies as close to homes as possible
Thats something i didnt know i would need, but now, i need all of it. Anno is a Masterpiece and with all the seasons includet a garantie for thousands of hours of fun. I love the game because it feels so german, so detailed and precise.
This video got me to buy Anno 1800 and I'm really glad I did. It's a good mix of city building, RTS, and management-sim, with some nice QoL features (i.e. warehouses accessible anywhere on the island and residents don't have to travel for work). The game looks really good, too
Have had this game in my library for so long that I can't even remember when I bought it. LOL Was a huge fan of the original Anno and played it for hours. Then they went futuristic and I lost touch. Excited to get back to this one. But CPP, you're literally the best preview-master-guru-gamecityplanner on YT. I love that you do rehearse things before you jump into providing a preview of the game literally down to how to say Schnapps. LOL Thank you for the awesome videos.
I see other have already given you good tips like the Ctrl+Q menu, but as you enjoy ornaments and making pretty neighborhoods etc, here's a shortcut I'm sure you'll appreciate: Ctrl+Shift+R puts you in FPS mode on your island so you can walk around and admire your village.
Fun Fact: If you press Ctrl + Shift + R, you enter the game world in first-person wherever your mouse was pointing. It's really fun to explore your cities like that.
I saw another youtuber I follow start playing this and immediately wondered if you'd be interested in a game like this. So imagine my surprise when you released a video! I would definitely enjoy more of this game from your perspective, that's for sure!
You should have started a game with unlimited money and no pirates. That way you could have focused more on beautifying your town, rather than efficiency and upkeep.
My first idea starting out into the video: finaly a beautiful realistic city, not a min-maxed megahub. Your approach is so wastly different to the other yt'ers which i watch Anno at... they all maximized efficency over their game experience... you go for realism, beauty... a slow approach. Love it. :) I mean... in Anno 1800 at the end every city looks beautiful anyways. But you know what i mean.
Yes! Please stream this. I love that you’re trying new things out and keep doing what you like doing. I’ve also love to see you play civ on a stream or actually anything. Keep up the good work.
as a british person it's really fascinating to see this application of USamerican ideas of what makes a good city - car (horse and cart?) focussed, aggressively divided single-use zones, little driveways for every single building....
I think you misunderstood some concepts: - the Bread supply chain is not 1-2-1 it's 2-1-2 - the trade union only gives you bonuses if you add specialists
I've never heard of this game and I may go download it now haha. I'd love to watch you keep playing this - but next time please don't forget to include the brief city tour (to take inventory of the things we've done)!
31:36 - i think you get it wrong. Soap is produced for 30 minutes, and tallow 1 hour. So you need 2 rendering works and 2 pig farms for each of soap factory.
This is one of my favourite games and I love to see you playing it! This makes me so happy. :) I also really enjoy your building style. This game is perfect for building beautiful little worlds.
Really loved this! I hope you can make a series for this, too. I really love that you take the time to decorate. I've seen so many plays that just uses dirt roads all around. Dirt roads are not decor! lol
I recognize how late I am, but I kinda hope you continue this playthrough. You got me excited about Cities again, and this is my favorite city builder of all time - maybe only eclipsed by Anno 2205 (Just because I'm a sucker for the scifi aesthetic)
PLEASE tell me you're going to do a full series on this game... This video clearly got a lot of attention, and I would love to see your perspective in a game with a wider objective range than Cities Skylines. Hope to see more soon! Cheers!
What’s the likelihood that we get an Anno series? I really enjoyed this video when it came out and have been hoping for more! Also, just love all of your content… so good!
God, i have had countless of hours in this game, perfecting supply chains and building huge cities. It will be awesome to see what you can make out of this game, as it is a beautiful game with so much detail and possibilities!
I love me some Anno! I've been playing since Anno 1602! I realize this is a sponsored video but if you're open to trying out new games I feel obligated to mention Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic. It's still in Early Access but it has you designing everything from housing blocks down to sewer and waste removal and all the industry connections in between. I'd really like to see you give that a go!
It wouldn't be your city without the occasional fire. 😂 I really like that you can see the wind blowing across the wheat fields. Such a little thing that adds so much. That was a lot of fun! I wonder if I have any more funds on Steam. 🤔 Thank you!
This is amazing! I’ve watched a lot of anno gameplay from different creaters but it can be very overwhelming with all the content this game has to offer. I really enjoy your simple style (just as in CS)and that you are focusing a lot on decorating and cosmetics. I hope to see more anno from you.

I literally started playing anno 1800 2 days ago, and now see you put up a video on it🥳
It would be awesome to keep this series going.
Just a few tips (if I may)
Use ctrl+Q to see statistics of your production line, this helps a lot with balancing the budget.
Good luck and keep up the great work
One of my favorite game series of all time. Been playing since 1602. Please do more of this series!! There is SO MUCH to this game. Love it!
I just got this game last week! And I thought to myself, I wonder if City Planner Plays would get his hand on this one. I would also love to see you try Farthest Frontier!
I love anno and I hope this becomes a series since it would be great for this channel. Anno can be a difficult game but I would love to see your take on it.
i have hundreds of hours in anno 1800 on the PC. i LOVE it!!!!! i was SOOO excited when this video popped up! thank you Phil, you will love this game!
I discovered your channel only a few days ago, and literally the first thing i searched is have you have played Anno 1800, and you did not had any videos from it. And yet here it comes. Awesome!
I loveeee this! The way you handled the newspaper is definitely the start of a new CPP persona lol! Really enjoyed this so much!
i literally subbed your channel for 2 things:
1: to learn better ways to build in City Skylines.
Bro instantly made an american suburbian nightmare
The joke around 15 minutes in about people in Madison liking the bar reminded me of a great Charlie Berens joke in his last special. He's setting up a joke about how nobody other than people in Wisconsin say bubbler instead of drinking fountain, and he starts off by asking "When you're thirsty, where do you go?" and the whole crowd yells "the bar!". Charlie replies "oh cripes I forgot I was in Wisconsin". Anyway, great video! The game looks pretty fun.
Just finished clocking 300 hours after picking this up during the winter sale last year. Super looking forward to an Anno Series
I really loved this video and I'm glad to see the Anno devs went with an old-style Ceasar method of determining availability of a resource to the houses. This video was also refreshing because you weren't trying to cram as much as possible into as little space as possible like a lot of the other Anno 1800 LPs I've checked out.
I wished he crammed as much as possible for his starting village then make a proper town while slowly upgrading the starting village
After finishing the game (erudits, skyscrapers, all continents,...) I went into creative mode and I had no ideas for creating a beautiful city
You just gave me part of the solution, many thanks for your creativity
God I love the Anno games. And seeing you play them is even better
I love how creative you play! Most people play more focused on effiency.
Well deserved that you got that sponsoring. Would be really cool to see you getting more into Anno, you do have a unique approach to these games.
Watching your build fences and evaporate your money was hilarious haha
I hope this will be the start of a series. An Anno 1800 version of Verde Beach.
Much love from Germany
Yay! I love that you're playing Anno! You should try 2077 sometime!
Cheers!
Please continue with Anno, you are only scratching the surface of even the basics of the game. Really fun video to watch!
as a fellow Philip (Not to be confused with the creepy old guy named Phillip), I appreciate the lover of horses reference
I’m so happy you’re playing this game. I love this game and your gameplays so. Perfect combination
I think you'd enjoy the ctrl+shift+R hidden feature that lets you walk around your town
Are you aware there are quests in the first person mode, you can only complete them in first person mode
@@jeeleal5084 those quests a cool, after you complete them you can pee everywhere you want to do firework! Only in first person mode sadly
I watch your videos because I do like them, and also your voice is crazy soothing and stops all the random thoughts I have constantly and helps me sleep.
I really hope this video is successful because I want to see more of this even though this isn't a game that I see myself playing. I can't wait to see what you do with this city!
You are Gorgeous.
@@StanHowse Hello, thank you! You're very kind ☺
This is absurd. I saw this on sale and went to youtube for a let's play, and my FAVORITE city planner gaming youtube channel uploaded this yesterday!
Play this more. Make it I to a series. This was super fun to watch!
Please consider making more videos in Anno1800 or even small series.... pretty please ... please ;D
Hoping to very, very soon!
The game looks really good, too
Yes, please keep building in Anno. I just bought it after watching you.
Have had this game in my library for so long that I can't even remember when I bought it. LOL
Was a huge fan of the original Anno and played it for hours. Then they went futuristic and I lost touch. Excited to get back to this one.
But CPP, you're literally the best preview-master-guru-gamecityplanner on YT. I love that you do rehearse things before you jump into providing a preview of the game literally down to how to say Schnapps. LOL
Thank you for the awesome videos.
Olbrich Beer Garden?? That place is my favorite! Love all your videos! As a Madison resident myself, always enjoy your tidbits about home 🙂
I see other have already given you good tips like the Ctrl+Q menu, but as you enjoy ornaments and making pretty neighborhoods etc, here's a shortcut I'm sure you'll appreciate: Ctrl+Shift+R puts you in FPS mode on your island so you can walk around and admire your village.
youve done this beautiful game justice with the video! please dont stop with this series!!
This is amazing! I'd LOVE to see a series with this and things like Transport Fever!
Fun Fact: If you press Ctrl + Shift + R, you enter the game world in first-person wherever your mouse was pointing. It's really fun to explore your cities like that.
Keep building! I had this game on my wish list for a while and immediately bought it after this. Would definitely love to see a little mini series!
I saw another youtuber I follow start playing this and immediately wondered if you'd be interested in a game like this. So imagine my surprise when you released a video! I would definitely enjoy more of this game from your perspective, that's for sure!
You should have started a game with unlimited money and no pirates. That way you could have focused more on beautifying your town, rather than efficiency and upkeep.
i'm a total efficiency builder in anno but you can totally build like this, love it
My first idea starting out into the video: finaly a beautiful realistic city, not a min-maxed megahub. Your approach is so wastly different to the other yt'ers which i watch Anno at... they all maximized efficency over their game experience... you go for realism, beauty... a slow approach. Love it. :)
I mean... in Anno 1800 at the end every city looks beautiful anyways.
I think you misunderstood some concepts:
- the Bread supply chain is not 1-2-1 it's 2-1-2
- the trade union only gives you bonuses if you add specialists
I didn’t know I needed this!!! Thank you for playing Anno! This brought back so many memories!
Least efficient Anno Player I have ever seen. Great idea to place the sawmill as far away as possible from any Warehouse or Lumbershack.
Love that you're playing this!!! Btw, ctrl+shift+r will let you walk around the city in first person!
I also really enjoy your building style. This game is perfect for building beautiful little worlds.
Really loved this! I hope you can make a series for this, too. I really love that you take the time to decorate. I've seen so many plays that just uses dirt roads all around. Dirt roads are not decor! lol
My prayers has been listened! Thanks for making this video!!!!!! Please make a huge series like verde beach.
Love Anno 1800, one of my favorite games. Excited to see where you go with it!
I have been trying to start this game but I am not the best at city planners. So it is great I can watch you play.
I'm so happy to see you dip into Anno! Take a look at Anno 1404 as well, amazing game!
Have been playing all games of this series since 1602. Its amazing and I am happy you gave it a try! 🎉😊
Yes! OMG, I was just playing the game and wishing city planner would do this game. It was like I just manifested this video into existence.
Incredible video!! I’m about to go and buy Anno 1880 now, this game play looks absolutely breathtakingly and addicting!!
Pros: cool game with cool mechanics!
Con: it’s 60 dollars
