Actually, what was not stated explicitly, ideal second island should have grain, hops and red pepper because after beer, red pepper is next resources which is must have. With grain player can do beer (with hops). And with red pepper one can make ingredients for artisans food. Also potato are nice to have, because player can make basic alcohol on island satisfying farmers and workers needs fully. Which means after a while such island is perfectly stable and no point in coming to it ever again. Also i find clay to be tertiary on second island. Another thing - it can actually be beneficial to have for example all bakeries in one location - that depends on people/items inside unions. Thank you so much. The Devs really should pay you for this and put a link to this video in game. You cleared up every aspect of production I was confused about and also shed light on many features I was unaware of. Thank you sir.
**HUGE** Tip: The number one thing that will waste your time as a beginner is banging your head trying to figure out how many consumer goods you need. Sometimes it's crazy unclear -- for a huge population of 4000 farmers and 4000 workers for instance, you need a whopping 14 schnapps production chains and 11 fish production chains, and yet just ONE soap factory. Needs per resource vary *a lot.* For that reason, it's insanely helpful to have a basic needs calculator on hand to assist while you build a sense of how many resources your population will need, so you can play more proactively, and less reactively. Here's a great tool for just that: glkwhr.com/anno1800helper/ It's been enormously helpful for me, for instance, to aim at the resources needed for 2000 farmers + 2000 workers right from the start of the game. It means you can proactively build the fisheries (or anything else) you need for that target population up front and forget about it, moving on to the next thing.
Among my friend circle no one plays Anno 1800 or a city building games as deep as this. I always used to have a knack of finding casual yet satisfying games which would give a role or suite me a taste to grind for without any competitive gameplay. Anno 1800 was a pure fit. When i started playing, this game felt like a mess. The tutorial felt not enough to get along the gameplay to best the AI builders but once i found this guy's channel, the whole game felt that it made so much sense and a guide or tutorial must be so on point like this video for beginners. You made it beautifully simple and on point without wasting much time for players who got introduced new to this franchise. Hope you have a brighter future ahead mate. I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Keep up the good work. Subbed you.
One of my BIGGEST things for this game is unlike others is I REALLY feel like you need to smash out some research on how to build your resource spots as efficiently as possible otherwise I get frustrated feeling like I wasted space or something x,D
Just bought the game and after watching so many videos this is by FAR the best guide. It’s short concise covers everything I don’t know it’s just perfect. Thank you!!
UI and trading is worse if im my opinion. UI too big and making trade routes is way more time consuming since ships cost influence points, I am at a point in my campaign where I have negative influence after going to war with the strongest ai opponent. I have 50 million gold but I can't buy anything since I need influence points to buy the important stuff. If I would lose about 5 clippers my game would be basically over since I can't buy anything back after I lose it.
I am got to agree with a lot of other viewers here, your presentation is defiantly unmatched! Now I want my videos to be this excellent! They are good but yours are at level over 9000!
good god. This explains why many of my production chains are so inefficient. I've been using the mindset of Anno 1404 thinking that every factory requires two primary source of natural goods. Kudos to you.
Posting 4 years after the video released. Thank you for this wonderful tips. I've watched many videos and NONE of them answered my question so thoroughly and easy to understand as this one
This is just awesome. I have played at least four Anno games over the years, starting with 1503. There has never been a tutorial with these games. Thank you for producing what Epic should have. They should pay you just for all of the people you are keeping from rage-quitting. You need to understand what this game is looking for in order to succeed at it. And I have to say I wish they brought back the color-coded warehouse overlay. Thanks to your video I can see they have developed a rather sophisticated replacement for it -- the blueprint mode -- without explaining how it works. Thankfully you came along and made this very professional video. Thank you!
I have not bought this game yet. It has me intrigued. I have watched several introductory videos. This is the best organized with the best presentation. Thank you. I have more to learn before I commit to buying this simulation. However, you brought me closer to making the purchase! I subscribed to your channel.

This was so helpful. I recently started this game and I made an entire mess of my first island. I built way too much stuff too quickly which ended in my famers leaving, my workers revolting and buildings on fire. Ditchwater was really living up to its name lol. I decided to try again after I figured out what I did wrong. So far, it's going much better than before ha ha.

The number one thing that will waste your time as a beginner is banging your head trying to figure out how many consumer goods you need.
Here's a great tool for just that: glkwhr.com/anno1800helper/
It's been enormously helpful for me, for instance, to aim at the resources needed for 2000 farmers + 2000 workers right from the start of the game. It means you can proactively build the fisheries (or anything else) you need for that target population up front and forget about it, moving on to the next thing.
absolutely the model every UA-camr should use-concise, well explained and no useless chit chat...thank you for this excellent guide!
Thank you!!
What an amazing game, it took everything good from 1701 and 1404 and made it better!
Another fantastic guide! Looking forward to some of this stuff for imperator!
You are VERY good at making a clear and helpful guide. I subscribed :)
This guide was so clear and void of bloat that it should be included with the game. Good job :)
100% should be in the game, the tutorial in game is awful
Every once in awhile there is a guide that is just perfect
Thank you for this guide it is quite comprehensive and understandable.
Outstanding review. So happy I saw this before I spent $60 on this game. Great work and thank you!
Mate this guide is amazing, you taught me so much as I've just started to get into this game, very well done :)
Started playing this game in the free week and it's amazing thanks for all the tips you cleared up some stuff I had doubts about.
Even though this is 4 years old, as a new player i appreciate this!!!
great video! im always afraid of tutorials telling me the BEST way to play. but you did a great job just explaining the mechanics and stuff.
I've seen many hours of gameplay of this game already and I learn more out of this video than all those suckers combined. Thanks!
Thank you!
One of the best guides to a game... ever. Clearly explained, not too long, covered the main mechanincs. Awesome work.
Dude... You've explained this much better than the pop tips in the game itself. Amazing job!
This should be part of the start menu of the game.. its that good. Amazing guide mate.
I don’t own this game nor do I plan to start something new, but I liked this video haha.
I have not bought this game yet. It has me intrigued. I have watched several introductory videos. This is the best organized with the best presentation. Thank you. I have more to learn before I commit to buying this simulation. However, you brought me closer to making the purchase! I subscribed to your channel.
Just bought this game few days ago and this guide helped me a lot! A very good and friendly video for those newbie who don't understand the mechanics of ANNO.
Just got this game on black Friday and have been playing with a friend. Loving it so far! Thanks for the info. Super helpful!
2:08 Bread, Sausages and Beer? Is this Bavaria?
It is a German Developer! :P
@@RepublicOfPlay Its so good seeing Blue Byte making such great work with Anno. I remember them from great Settlers games and now we know the new Settlers might be something special, just like Anno 1800.
And schnapps. Don't forget about the schnapps.
Heineken dan
Best guide on youtube by far. Not to in detail but enough to get you on the right path.
Just started playing yesterday and this is a great guide. Thank you. Well edited and organized.
I really wish I would've watched this before I started my first game. Great guide. Thank you
Thank you so much for this guide! I've been playing for days trying to figure it all out and your guide will make playing it so much more enjoyable!
Thanks for this really good beginner guide. Please make advanced and expert guides too, maybe topic-specific, like production layouts with pros/cons (most don't have space for trade unions), tips and tricks for playing on very hard difficulty, quests, expeditions, items, multiplayer tips, etc.
i finally bought this game the other day, i am completely addicted and mad at myself for waiting this long. this guide helped a lot. im doing well in campaign but im at the artisan tier, and im hemorrhaging money but i fixed it now, thank you
Hey Darren... I didn't know you had two channels ... can't put to words how happy I was when saw you made a video on that ... thanks and lots of love ❤️
Thanks! I dont upload to this one anymore though, I left reviews and guides to do playthroughs
Man... Bente's a pro @ this game with all those top tips!
Amazing video thanks. Ive been stumbling around blindly never being efficient! This video set me on the right path!
I just began this game,I had to restart it 4 times . Thank you very much. that flatuating happines. Also i was creating a 1:1 brick thingis.
47 AI's disapproved of this video due to buyout. This is one of the best tutorials/guides to this game I've seen so far!
What a useful guide. While there are many great Anno guides this one is actually more concise and informative for a beginner such as myself. Recently purchased Anno on console.
This is super helpful. Thank god people like you exist. 👍👍
What a precise, clearly spoken tip guide. Thank you so much. This explained a lot of things I was missing.
One of the best guides ever seen! Very well put together, I wish all guides was like this. This video is easily worth a subscribe!
Thank you so much for this guide. Watching this I think I will just restart the campaign and see how I can do better. Awesome job. Thank you.
Amazingly concise video, and I'm not even finished watching yet. Nice job.
i just started playing and i was so lost, I've played RTS games before but man its been a while, and this helped so much, thanks man
Great tutorial. Excellent explanations, no fluff, and straight to the point. Thanks.
SHITTT i just buy it the game and and made this quick search for some tips and guides, and u was able to put everything in just one video YOU'RE SUCH A GOD MAN HOLY SHIT
Thank you for this truly useful primer. I've been hemorrhaging cash, and now I can see why.
One of the best guides I have seen for any game
i thought i was pretty good or at least ok at city building....then i started anno 1800....and needed this video x) thank you very much
Started several weeks ago on Anno 1404, then caught a couple videos of yours on 1800, and now own the game. What a great tutorial video!
I wish I could say the interface was intuitive but, on that note it is not impossible to figure out.
I just wish there was a way to make the mini-map slightly bigger.
