Thanks for this. Can I use UV mapping to render a plain version of a 3D object/polygon surface? What if for instance have water splashing inside an upright cylinder and then export the vertical skin of the cylinder as plain image to be played/shown on a real/physical cylindrical screen? (so it looks like there is water inside), thanks
I'm just starting UV unwrapping in C4D and it does seem like the functionality is limited although you can usually get there with some manual effort and workarounds. I can't understand why there aren't axis handles in the UV view for the move/scale/rotate tools and instead you have to manually type in transform values and "apply". Ridiculous. What I did find helped a bit was using the quantise and snapping functionality for the move tool, which makes it at least easier to use the tool and still constrain motion to one axis. I am hesitant to start learning yet another piece of software just for unwrapping though so I'll stick with C4D for now. I'm confident Maxon will improve their UV toolset at some point.
Yes. Our UV tools need improvement... which is an understatement. Maxon knows that, and they are actively working to bring better, faster, great tools in the future.
Cinema has a worst and uncomfortable UV tools of all 3d software. Look at maya UV tools. tons of functions and not devide to UV selections and 3d selections. Use togather selections in 3d and UV. Maxon must work fix this Cinema UV tools
Your tutorials are so useful for me and also fun to watch! Thank you!
Wonderful! UV tutorials are always welcome.
thanks Luke! Always my pleasure
Are you planning for a R19 uv tutorial to show the new ways of doing this?
Excellent ! thank you Athanasios.
I am not good at English but you make me understand. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the another nice UV tutorial.

yes, but Cinema 4D has me :-)
Thanks for tutors. will hope to news features in UV tools and modeling improvements like maya.
yeah this is cool but no thanks. I'll gladly use a third-party unwrapper until maxon comes up with something more sensible
And which one do you use? Thank you.
Totally lost me when you went into the uv editor. Got way off point with changing views and not explaining why you were doing things.
this tutorial doesn't apply since S22 as the whole UV workflow changed. I am planning to do the same technique using the latest UV tools in C4D...
