The best way to set up the Studio 22 is to use the clean channel for crunch by which means you don't to compromise the overdrive channel settings as much. Turn up the volume and turn down the Master and bass. For a cleaner sound you can then back off the guitar volume a bit. Having a treble bleed in your guitars helps here too. It's the best compromise you can find for 3 sounds in a live band mix. The Rock settings in the manual are a good start. An EQ added to the loop can help pull out some of the boxy mids too.

Man gotta give it to the peavey for keeping up with a boogie. Peavey solid states are really the shit if we’re talking abt usable amps in the real world. Sound as good as anything out there, affordable, can be easily upgraded. My dream is a mki boogie but a bandit 75, teal/silver stripe is all you’ll ever need.

Ty for the demo. Just got a Peavey Studio Pro 40 for 20usd. All I had to do was clean the pre amp pot. Awesome amp, way happy I picked it up! The fuzz/distortion sounds are heavy. Light overdrive is nice, and cleans sound so good with my pearly gates and jazz SD pickups. Gonna try my dimebucker and noiseless fender single coils tomorrow. Mine came with an Eminence made round back speaker. No xlr out but it has trs unbalanced out.

Nice! If you’re using an IR loader pedal, then the unbalanced 1/4” is all you need. Old Peavey’s have a distinct sound, but the cleans are where they really shine.

@Chucksguitargeekery first time hearing about ir loader pedals. Very cool. I'm assuming you run your rig like normal but line out to the ir pedal then to some powered monitors or mixer?

I was at a famous music store in the early nineties. The owner, who was anti Peavey had a used Encore 65 for sale for $225, He took my brother and me into the amp room to demonstrate how much better the Mesa Boogies were to Peavey. He put it up against a 22 cal, a Son of Boogie and another combo. The PV smoked them. Even one of his employees poked his head in saying how good it sounded. At that the owner hooked up a $2200 simul class and it beat the $225 PV.

They are so similar that the Peavey clearly becomes the winner considering PRICE, size and reliability.

I just bought a used Peavey studio 112 for my daughter so she didn't ruin my nice tube amps... but now after watching your video I'm really curious to try it... just got it today and haven't tried it yet... Great video man!

I will say, the speaker that came in mine left much to be desired. I was running it through impulse responses in this video. But, I did put a Scorpion in it and it made a huge difference in the room.

@@Chucksguitargeekery ya I just tried it and with the sick speaker it sounds pretty bad...

Great video! :D I think they both sound pretty good, and I can't tell which I like more. The Mesa sounds like it has a bit more of a dark sound...more body...but the Peavey seems to have some higher frequency thing going on...I'd probably just record both and blend 'em. :D

Love those 80's Peaveys. That thing sounds great. I used a 400BH for many years and it was such a reliable amp. Big but weighed pretty light.Yeah, lost that about 3yrs ago... 🙄 Isn't the '+' the one with the graphic..? Cheers for the demo, I just got my 22+ back from the shop after almost a year (pilot light failed, new output valves) In the meantime I used a L6 flextone ll xl and when I got the boog back it just looks so small! 🤔😄 Is what it is. I missed those big Bluesy clean tones that are so easy to get. Paid 200 for it over twenty years ago. What did you say your guitar was, Peavey, or Ibanez..? I think the mods sound great 👍

Speakers matter too, like the Stock Squareback PV 12 (Eminence) vs the British VK-12 (Green Frame) That I swap out in my PV SP-40 made a tonal difference, the "Darker" VK12 vs the "Brighter" PV Squareback (Both awesome speakers and well AGED) -- turned out to be a keeper amp for me.

Well excecuted, good sound quality. I’m tempted to buy one of those peaveys for shits and giggless. If your boogie does not boogie, check the tubes. Or maybe you have. That’s one of those amps where sound really deteriorates and loses it’s grunt when the valves are shot. You’re though, that’s not really a 2ch amp, but it still has both nice cleans and great mini mk3 lead sound and it delivers that even at low volume.

Great demo! I'd be curious to hear how they stack up close mic'ed rather than using the amps' outputs. I had a 22+ (non-eq) several years ago and didn't really gel with it either. I have a Peavey Encore and a Backstage Plus that I really dig but keeping my eye out for a Studio Pro. Can't judge a book by its cover.

Honestly, in the room through their own speakers, both sound kinda small and boxy.

Is that a sqaureback in your studio pro? You never mentioned but man that amp sounds so good

I actually have a scorpion in it. But, for this video, I sent both amps through the same impulse response so it’s comparing just the amplifier part.

Nothing wrong with either. I’m always impressed how Peavey sounds great recorded but still for the most part gets little respect.

It’s honestly the best clean tone out of all the bandits I’ve tried. I have an Eminence Swamp Thang in mine, it really is probably the best pedal platform amp I have.

Killer chops. Boogies sound indistinguishable from Fenders at living room volume. Their amps only starts to show the magic when dialed upward of 12 noon and beyond. A 22 wide open is really Santana territory.

Did you read the Mesa manual for the amp? It tells you how to balance the volumes on the amp and makes basic recommendations for tone settings. Once you dial a Mesa amp in it really sings. But it will take time and effort depending on the guitar you play. I played Peavey for over a decade and a half. It was all I ever owned but none of them hold a candle to my Mark III. They are dull and lifeless by comparison, even Peavey tube amps I've had I ended up selling them all.

Love your demo format. I can skip ahead and back. I way prefer the peavey sounds you are getting. I have a classic VT. The peavey sounds seem to be way more useful against many styles. You dialed in great tones very easily and the amps natural tones IMHO much better. Mesa good for some things, don't get me wrong but not my flav
