  • Phalen's Test, Reverse Phalen's Test, and Tinel's Test are three simple carpal tunnel tests that you can do at home to see if you have carpal tunnel. I'll also show 2 more easy carpal tunnel tests to help you rule in or out if carpal tunnel syndrome is causing your wrist and hand pain. These 5 carpal tunnel tests are the ones I use to help diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome in patients at the office. If you have positives with these tests it increases the likelihood that carpal tunnel is the reason for your symptoms, but doesn't rule out that it could be another condition causing them.
The biggest symptoms to look for in carpal tunnel syndrome are pain and paresthesia (tingling or burning) in the palmar surface of the hand and wrist (primarily) along the distribution of the thumb, pointer finger, middle finger and inside portion of the ring finger. The median nerve is what partially supplies this area of your hand, and if it's compressed or inflammation is crowding the area then carpal tunnel syndrome should be suspected.
If you're finding that Phalen's Test, Reverse Phalen's Test, and Tinel's Test are creating pain or paresthesia in your hand or wrist then it may be time to seek treatment for carpal tunnel. The good news is that many cases of carpal tunnel will improve without carpal tunnel surgery or shots, and conservative care like a chiropractor or PT provides will help the condition resolve. Simply getting an adjustment wont likely resolve it, but carpal tunnel exercises, soft tissue work, dry needling, and temporary lifestyle modifications are great options to try.

@@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab I have a question, I notice tingling on my left hand during biking , is riding on the hoods of a road bike handle bar better than flat bars ?

Thanks for checking out the video! A lot depends on where the tingling is on your hand and what's causing it. I would suggest seeing a chiro and getting it diagnoses properly. I typically tell my patients to modify activities that aggravate the complaint or bring the pain 3 points higher on a 0-10 scale. A comfortable handle bar position is likely to vary from person to person. Best of luck!
