- Lesson on clinical examination of carpal tunnel syndrome including Phalen sign and Tinel Sign. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition involving the median nerve of the hand becoming compressed and causing characteristic signs and symptoms. Compression of the median nerve can be due to a variety of causes including injury, overuse, or arthritic changes. Tinel’s sign and Phalen’s sign are two clinical tests that can be performed to assess whether an individual has carpal tunnel syndrome or not. In this lesson you will learn how to perform a clinical examination of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome using Tinel's sign and Phalen's sign.

Thank you!!
Thanks for this video!! 👍🏻❤️
You're very welcome! :)
Good clear explanation of performing those tests .
Great video. Appreciate how you explained this is a simple to understand way for us lay people.

Everyone has carpal tunnel.

Thankyou !
I had that plus tingling in my elbow joint and pain in my neck. Thought it was cubital tunnel syndrome. Got a nerve study and it turned out to be carpel tunnel. Great surgeon made the incision and the base of my palm along one of the lines so that the scar would be hard to detect.
wow, are you fine now?
Thanks
Is it the patient must do extension position while doing the tinel's sign ?
go on ❤
What If I have pain in the middle of my wrist on the top and not on the bottom??
same
What if wrist and forearm are numb only, with little pain? I did test one and got the tingling sensation in the thumb. Nothing with test two.
I did this yesterday after watching a short, obviously my hand/s went numb, had some pain in my right wrist, but i mentioned how i wear a splint to bed and it's completely stopped me from waking up in the middle of the night with my arm in severe pain. Except after doing that test, it happened for the first time in 6 months last night. Now my hand and wrist feel like I'm back to square one 😭 at least i know it's probably carpal tunnel.
My pinky and the two fingers closest to it get a numbing burning sensation when I am typing a lot.
cubital tunnel affects those fingers,,,,hope you are better
Correction thumb, index finger and lateral half of middle finger are supplied by the median nerve (not the ring finger). Also, this video demonstrates the 'reverse Phalen's test and not the Phalen's test which is done with the palms together as in prayer position. If either of these 3 tests reproduces symptoms of radiculopathy (numbness, tingling, pain) along the above mentioned 3 fingers then this could be carpal tunnel.
My two left finger tips burn. And other times those fingers get super hot and get very sensitive. Luke warm water feels like boiling water what could this be?
What does it mean if I can't put the backs of my hands together?
The hands are sensory reflexive areas that connect to vital organs and other areas across the body, so to everyone dont just focus on your hands, look at the whole picture. Look up a hand & feet reflexology chart
My right hand hurts sometimes with shooting pains and sometimes my fingers get num or tingly. What does that mean? And I'm 13 btw
Mine too and I'm 14 and... I searched it on Google and it shows repitative stress and then I came to UA-cam about the repetitive stress and it shown me that it's a cause of carpal tunnel syndrome.......
@@angelpriya1955 why me😥
Yea have symptoms in 2 seconds great
I just woke up today with a pain in my wrist but no numbness, tried doing this and still no numbness, what is going on?
what if i only feel tingly in my thumb? Nothing else
There are several tips for exercises to lessen carpal tunnel syndrome pain
Do stretches - the pain is casued by tension in the nerve
Seek the advice of experts as it can lead to permanent damage
(I learned these and why they work on Dariks pain destroyer website )
Im a dental student and i am.getting positive resutls. I dont want to do any surgery for this. Is there any way i can still work but also not make this problem worse?
has the condition improved?
@@user-wb2yv7ll9d yeah it has, I gave it some rest and then tried to adjust my work in a way that puts less pressure on it

I need some help you guys: so test 1 gave no result, but the pain I'm having in my wrist is so bad I can't even do the second test and can't fold my 2 hands anywhere near this far. I've been having this problem for over 4 years now and it comes and goes. Now it's at its worst, and it's starting to cause occasional numbness in my elbows. Please help if you know anything. Thanks :)
Ypu should go to a doctor
Have you considered seeing a chiropractor about this.
Does a heat/burning sensation happen with carpel tunnel? Only happens on my index finger on my left hand.
I've got this too!
I can’t bend my wrists like you do, to do the test 😢
My arms and hands have been going numb a lot lately and it happens with small movements. I could be grabbing a napkin and it’ll go numb, I have a lot of pain when I sleep, it affects my sleep bc of the pain, it hurts a lot and I always have to wait it off so I can fall back asleep. I don’t put pressure on it and it goes limp and I’ll drop stuff. I. Concerned I have it but I’m only 16 so idk what to expect. My mom has it but she didn’t get it till she was 30 . I rlly hope it’s not the case
you should see a doctor
some guy once Coronavirus has settled down, I’ll go to the doctor. im not going to risk a deadly disease for some painful numbness . i think it’s better if i just wait and hopefully I’ll get a better perspective at a doctor’s office . I have a high pain tolerance so im sure i can handle the pain for a couple more months :)
@@haleyvargas658 ok but you just be warned ignoring carpal tunnel can lead to permanent nerve damage
@@haleyvargas658 check out thoracic output syndrome it could be your neck muscle impinging the nerve that causes hand numbess weakness pain tingling..there are exercises on UA-cam you can try see if it alleviates your symptoms atleast..
Mark O'Hanlon I’ve never heard of that, I’ll look into it, thank you :)
My wrists hurt watching this video
Thanks for the video.
But the palm is spared in carpal tunnel syndrome.only the lateral 3 1/2 fingers are affected.
I did these two tests but both came out negative.
Im 21 but my grip strength is incredibly weak, and there are some moments where I could not even open a bag of chips or twist a bottle cap open.
Another thing i notice in my hands is that when i try to clench my fists, i can feel a tickly(not tingling) sensation in the center of the back of my palm, also I cannot forcefully clench a fist because of the tickly sensation.
What could i be having?
Same here my friend, I am 21 also. It might be repetitive strain...I hope..
Some type of peripheral neuropathy. Try to get it checked by a doctor as soon as possible.
same here do I have wrist tendinitis?
bruh same
Same can someone give a clear answer
what about the pinky
.... Both tests unfortunately worked for me. Pretty sure I have it 🥺
Hey it's better to know what you have than not knowing it. I've been experiencing pains in the wrists for years now. Pain comes and goes, but now it's worse than ever, so bad that I can't even do anything close to bending my hands that far because it hurts so much. Symptoms say CTS, tests say no. If you know anything about this, please help:)
same...
are u doing better
My right hand below my thumb has been hurting for a week....idk why but I don't have numbness....I stepped on my hand trying to do an escape room last weekend (don't ask) and ever since my hand has been in pain and I cant grip things very well....
by the sound of it, you may have a scaphoid fracture. If the pain persists over several days, an X-ray may be beneficial.
@@aodhanzoid8046 i think its actually from pushing my thumb in too hard trying to pop my thumb...
Welp, I think I got it
Don’t have that!!
i got this from playing pubg
