12:10 i love the mental image of martin short on conan's show, marty making his jokes and conan just sitting at his desk trembling with rage, barely holding it together. all of a sudden he snaps, lunging forward. he then proceeds to tear martin short's leg off with his bare hands and beat him over the head with it.
Imagine being a waiter and serving Mulaney and Conan and they laugh at your jokes. You're probably riding high on that for a month. But then you find out they're still thinking and talking about your jokes months later. Somwhere out there, this clip made some waiter as happy as he's ever going to be.
Oh no hun. That's just a regulat person calling out abuse, past and present, while not standing for the gaslighting. Connan, whether you like it or not, is an ass.
It's a small window in a performer's career when your wit and physical abilities are at there peck. He pecked for four decades. From the 70's into the 2000's. Amazing talent. Much to look back on. Marty is still great. Conan click baited me.
Nice to come here after listening to the podcast and seeing how John leans back after Conan comes after him at 1:45 with a “oh, so we’re doing this huh?” expression. 😊
I like the idea that someone's a huge Conan fan, and they watch all his videos, and the only thing they appreciate about him is that he's tall. Just clicking on video after video, like, "Look at him. What a specimen."
Ernest Borgnine was married to Ethel Merman for a month. That marriage was famously one of the shortest in Hollywood history. I think that was what Mulaney was referring to. In "The Poseidon Adventure" Ernest's character was married to Stella Stevens.
what I love best about the martin short insult compilation is how conan starts breaking the second martin begins a compliment because he kows what's coming.
John Mulaney was so angry about Jack Albertson’s turn as Grandpa Joe in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” that he completely purged Albertson from “The Poseidon Adventure.” Savage!
Ive seen Conan in person when he was in Israel and when he stopped to speak with people on the street he listened very patiently and respectfully. So yes hes capable of not being an a hole
Sona had it wrong. Yes, both Ernest Borgnine and Shelley Winters are in THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, but Shelley Winters' husband was played by Jack Albertson (from CHICO AND THE MAN and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY). Borgnine's wife was played by Stella Stevens. Oh, and Borgnine and Winters were never married. But Borgnine was (very, very briefly) married to Ethel Merman, whom I suspect you were confusing with Ms. Winters.
The look of bewilderment from Mulaney at the end of the clip 😂 Does anyone else come back to their favorite interviews here and notice things they didn't before. That's why I love Conan 😅
Mulaney is so often so on point and so over the head of everyone -- most of what I have seen him do could have 'take a minute' applied to it -- his way of doing stand-up is utterly unique.
John brought up Nate Bargatze. I would love to see him on this podcast! It would be like when Conan speaks with Jim Gaffigan. Comedy masters but different styles.
Come on, Conan!😄 In the Posiden Adventure, Shelley Winters' character, Belle Rosen, is married to Manny Rosen, who is played by Jack Albertson. Ernest Borgnine's character is married to Linda Rogo, who is played by Stella Stevens.
I can't read through all the comments to search for duplicates...that's work...so I will say Shelly Winters was NOT married to Ernest Borgnine in The Poseidon Adventure, he was married to Stella Stevens in the movie. Here endeth the correction.
I'm delighted to see that John Mulaney just hanging out is way funnier than John Mulaney doing pre-written comedy. And I'm saying that as someone who LIKES his comedy.
whenever Conan and others start talking about references before Sona was born, is it possible to get either a split screen on Sona's face, or a small screen of her face in the corner of the clip so we can see the utter annoyance/frustration/confusion/etc. she goes through in real time?
Oh my god I loved Jones Restaurant in the east village tiny hole-in-the-wall place that served polish food for like no money, there was a gas explosion like... 5 years ago or so maybe more in the village and the place has been closed ever since, it was so damn weird hearing mulaney mention it
It’s the ones you care about, who you’re allowed to say mean things to. But, not too mean. There’s always a line you shouldn’t cross, and most people can figure that out.

Conan's such a big fan of Marty that he's decided to emblazon his name on every post. John Mullaney, Hillary Clinton, Meryl Steep, Michelle Obama, Lorne Michaels, the ghost of Norm Macdonald, they are all "Martin Short" from now on. Interesting choice, but who are we to question Cones?
All comedians have the capacity to be mean, but not all choose it. For example, Conan, John, Kristen Wiig and Maria Bamford are some of my absolute favorites. Their brains can trek any wormhole, so I know their wit can slice and dice, but they don't. With any given scenario, each can straight away come up with 5+ jokes/improv bc their brains have that capacity. They target themselves in a lot of their comedy, bc they have big hearts that go with their big brains. Mean is easy. It's like checkers or tic-tac-toe. To be able to make everybody laugh without making anyone cry is next-level chess mastery. I've seen Conan pummel Joe McHale, but that's the nature of their banter. Make no mistake, though, even then Conan did not fully unleash. With great power comes great responsibility.
Did anyone ever correct them about the Poseidon Adventure? Ernest Borgnine's wife in the movie was played by Stella Stevens. Shelley Winters was married to Jack Albertson.
Conan should just start every podcast playing Brutus's song from Robin William's Popeye movie. I'm mean. I'm mean, I'm mean, I'm mean, if you know what I mean (girls chorus: He's mean he's mean he's mean) It's a very deep and moving song. It's so soul touching that I actually typed all that out.
The “doesn’t he know that Conan could tear him limb from limb” comment is pretty hilarious but very confused that they all thought the UA-cam commenter was serious.
Last night I dreamed I ran into John Mulaney (no idea how) and was telling him how my younger brother is a huge Steely Dan fan, and he invited my brother to go to a concert with him. They did and had a blast. Afterwards, my brother invited John to go fishing with him some time, and John was like, well, okay, this was nice, bye, and left. Lol. I was a bit disappointed when I woke up because I would've loved to have seen John show up in those big wader pants they make for fishermen, and my brother would've been like uh, you don't need to wear that; we'll be in a boat. Lol. Some dreams end too soon. X)
No, Sona is wrong. Shelly Winters and Ernest Borgnine ARE both in The Poseidon Adventure, but they are not married it it. She is married to Jack Alberston (Grandpa Joe) - I remember bc they played an old NY Jewish couple, like my grandparents! With whom I was staying when I watched this move as a kid (I think on the Disney Channel? weird). This movie was so upsetting to me at the time, I was enthralled and remember it forever. Ernest Borgnine did play a cop. Sorry Sona!
I went to rehab too, and the woman who had authority was like “This is active listening!” Except the way she demonstrated it was, repeating words back into the face of the person she was “listening” to. She acted almost as offended at my suggestion that she didn’t know what she was talking about as all the parents at “parents’ weekend” at rehab in Montrose, Houston, TX did
This same woman was lecturing us another time and my friend Keven said “I’m trying”. And she walked up and held out a pen to him, and said “Take this”, so he did, against her zero resistance, and when he did she like…tapped her brain, “…See how easy…?”

and rips his hands and uses it as an ashtray afterwards lol
Martin Short looks different
He went overboard getting work done
Growth spurt and Botox
Conan tore him limb from limb, stretched both sides, then reattached him again.
@@EtoCobra this is my favorite explanation
Martin is just SO good at impressions. His Mulaney is indistinguishable from the actual actor!
Imagine being a waiter and serving Mulaney and Conan and they laugh at your jokes. You're probably riding high on that for a month. But then you find out they're still thinking and talking about your jokes months later. Somwhere out there, this clip made some waiter as happy as he's ever going to be.
It's also in LA too where no one's a waiter, everyone's just bringing you food or coffee until they hear from their agent.
❤
"So I am the waiter that made Mulaney and Conan laugh and they are still taking about it"
"You got the part!"
If he's an aspiring comedian, his confidence must be made of adamantium now
That’s exactly what I was thinking! I really hope that waiter sees this somehow
Desperately want to see an episode of this podcast with John Mulaney and Bill Hader on at the same time. ‘In a word… chaos’
And lots of strange voices! 😜
that would be amazing
And invite David Letterman.
It would have EVERYTHING!
Add in Nick Kroll and you got yourself a hit!
5:00 the way Sona openly laughs AT Conan is ruthless. It’s so genuine and so directly at Conan’s expense. 😂
Oh no hun. That's just a regulat person calling out abuse, past and present, while not standing for the gaslighting. Connan, whether you like it or not, is an ass.
"Keep it up, Short, he'll be using your hands for ashtrays."
I lost it 🤣
I love Mulaney's 1950s Chicago gangster
John's lucky that Conan showed restraint; he could have torn him apart limb by limb.
I was confused by this comment ..and then continued watching the video lmao
I like the fact that Martin Short watches his own greatest hits from time to time.
It's a small window in a performer's career when your wit and physical abilities are at there peck. He pecked for four decades. From the 70's into the 2000's. Amazing talent. Much to look back on. Marty is still great. Conan click baited me.

Ernest Borgnine was married to Ethel Merman for a month. That marriage was famously one of the shortest in Hollywood history. I think that was what Mulaney was referring to. In "The Poseidon Adventure" Ernest's character was married to Stella Stevens.
The forearm joke still works !!!
You’re right & Shelly was married to Jack Albertson. Chico & the Man
You are quite right. The "Poseidon" storyline was that a cop (Borgnine) had married a hooker (Stevens).

Gourley ignoring Conan when he asks for the laughter edit, is what I live for.

I don't think anyone has ever been as mean with heart as Mr. Warmth himself.
We still miss you Mr. Rickles.
John Mulaney was so angry about Jack Albertson’s turn as Grandpa Joe in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” that he completely purged Albertson from “The Poseidon Adventure.” Savage!
Conan absolutely MUST be talking about Jimmy Fallon at 9:07, whether he realizes it or not. And he's 100% right
Fallon's not lobotomised, he's just drunk all the time
It’s amazing how people will jump at any chances to complain about Fallon. Imagine someone in your mind completely rent free. It’s so weird.
I would absolutely die happy the very next day of being in a room with John, Bill Hader and Conan.
With Bill Burr, because Norm MacDonald has passed but my god we miss him.
Yes, Hader, Mulaney and Conan.
Sounds like a star studded intervention
They are my favorites ❤
Seriously though could Conan and John just do a podcast every day for us?
Conan, John, and Jim Downey just shooting the breeze for an hour a day. Nothing crazy, short and sweet; just a casual hang. Life would be complete.
Conan O’Brien doing an ad read for a podcast is so surreal to me
In my imagination both of these colossuses despise each other, and yet are playing a very complex game of mental chess.
I was looking in the comments to see if someone would comment on the relationship-I see Conan looking jealous.
