    Here's the breakdown:
The MC1R gene controls melanin production. In people with brown, black, or blonde hair, this gene functions normally.
In redheads, a mutation in the MC1R gene leads to production of pheomelanin instead of melanin, resulting in red hair and fair skin.
This same MC1R gene is somehow linked to pain receptors in the brain. The mutation may affect how these receptors respond to anesthesia.
    Studies suggest redheads:
Need about 20% more general anesthesia for surgery.
Are more resistant to local anesthetics like lidocaine.
May be more sensitive to certain types of pain (like heat and cold).

I am a redhead born in the 80's kid of the 90's living in NZ I was not exposed to anything Conan until internationally internet gave me small clips. The dude is hilarious. But yes the redhead gene is that we have a higher pain tolerance and things like painkillers/numbing shots take longer to affect us. I have been to the dentist to get a tooth pulled, they gave me the legal max amount of shots and I felt everything. So they had to break up the extraction into 4 sessions over 2 weeks to pull one tooth.
Even in normal surgeries, the doctors had to race through procedures cause within half an hour of the mask coming off my face and being wheeled into recovery I was awake and able to pull myself to sit up and then within an hour, I was ready to walk. I'm not Wolverine no super healing, but drugs I need a lot to help with any pain and if I'm saying I'm in pain my 7 is a normal person's 9 or 10. I've broken bones and it's taken up to 2 weeks to get checked out cause it felt mild. Wasn't until I saw fingers growing a bump and turning purple that I was like "Well that don't look right."

Gorley’s Tom Cruise analogy was perfectly put. Conan dismissed it but the point is valid: both will fully commit and go to the most extreme lengths to entertain.

No wonder they meshed so well with that car ride parody video, which could potentially have been the dullest thing ever. Full commitment on both sides. 😂

So, now that Conan has, again, gone to that extreme, on hot ones, the universe should naturally bring Tom Cruise and Conan together, on Conan's podcast to discuss their common drive to entertain audiences to the utmost! Or, even better, Tom Cruise does Hot Ones THEN Conan's podcast? OR! Tom Cruise, Sean Evans and Conan eat hot wings on Conan's podcast! Yes?! Lol

You had the best interview on Hot Ones. Something about your face being bright fluorescent red while you're covering your pain and acting arrogant was one of the highlights of my life. Then again, I shouldn't be surprised. I remember you coming out on Late Night physically ill and yet you still did your job. We have nothing on you. Thank you!

The ending of hot ones and how Conan entertained everyone is what made me a real fan of his now. Now because of that hot ones video alone im definitely gonna check out his newest project. Idk why I never thought Conan was funny until now but man he is perfect right now. I do love hosts but I'm glad seeing Conan in the spotlight and shining. He deserves all of this amazing glory for his contributions to comedy.

@@CJT49 I have a specific measurement of what makes a good interviewer by if I personally would like to be interviewed by that person. Sean Evans tops that list as he really gets in depth with a guest’s interests and doesn’t just focus on what they’re doing, but he also elevates whatever the guest is promoting.
