What a joy seeing two people who get visibly uncomfortable at the idea that someone genuinely likes them.
Haha! So well observed and expressed! I love them both for it. Conan is a huge talent and very gifted at coaxing out the best from others, but so often seems to be a bit more humble than is necessary to the point of being shy and it being almost a sort of fault.
Its because they are used to being putdown. John was always belittled by his previous wife.
@@nullakjg767 🤣🤣🤣🐵
This whole "imposter syndrome" wave, and maybe it's even Conan overtly encouraging his guests to display them on the podcast, is kind of a Hollywood humble brag at some point if literally everyone does it.
@@nullakjg767bruv you don't know them. Stop pulling things out of your ass. Out of all publicly available pieces of info about his life, I think the only relationship people sorta can qualify as playing onto his self esteem would be his relationship with his father.
Man this conversation about him and his baby playing baseball at 5 in the morning just made me smile from ear to ear the whole time. You can hear it in his voice how much he's enjoying it. ❤
Genuinely same. Can’t describe the happiness I felt hearing that, so I can’t imagine the happiness it brings him
I’m glad for him
He turned it into a bit! I just saw him live on Dec 21, and he has an entire 5ish minute joke about that story. It’s hilarious and adorable.
When John said "you wouldn't belieeeve how far I can hit a wiffle ball", for some reason I looked up Wiffle ball on Wikipedia, and the first thing I see is "The ball most commonly used in the game was invented by David N. MULLANY at his home in Fairfield, ..."
Helps if you er, you can't sleep
i love how sincerity is like pulling teeth for comedians. it physically hurts them to sit with a genuine emotion and not do a bit to ease the tension.
It's also a matter of getting jobs. If they're not funny, then they may not get another gig.
@@JudithRandall-vz1zki think conan and john are gonna be fine with future jobs
I think that's why Bobby Lee can feel so jarring sometimes
"You are my absolute hero"
You just know it feels *so so so good* to grow up looking up to Conan and then working with him and being his friend
"Now say it again... as a horse."
to be honest, i don't know if i totally buy it. Like when Hader talks about Conan it's obvious he's been a die hard fan for decades. With John, it feels a bit more contrived.
@@PathosConsultingGroup i think john Mulaney is not as animated in his general speaking voice though
@@PathosConsultingGroupI think its genuine. I think was his was the first late night show he did stand up on. And I forget whether it was on a podcast or an interview but I remember him talking about telling his mother about his goals and he said he wanted to be like Conan. And she was hoping he meant he wanted to go to Harvard ...which is obviously not what he meant lol But it does seem like he has looked up to Conan as a comedy writer for a long time.
@@reen4450see that story sounded like a bit to me. It’s a pretty common misdirection joke. We’ll never know, but it doesn’t feel genuine to me
There is literally nothing as adorable and entertaining as John describing baseball at 5:10 AM with Malcom.
The chemical composition of Conan and Mulaney is comedy gold.
YES. Definitely
I mean they were friends pre Liza, so you know, right up there with Bob Odenkirk
It's literally alchemy. Two disparate elements come together to make gold
It's also roughly half cocaine.
both raised devout Catholic
Losing John to drugs would have been devastating. I'm thrilled he has found real happiness.
I love seeing John get as much joy out of being with his son as we’ve all gotten from his comedy over the years. It’s really cool to see and hear him be genuinely joyful knowing his struggles. Way to go John!
My wife and I can't have kids. Listening to these two and John's stories about his child encapsulates everything that I would have wanted in having a child. Also, having been a fan of his for so long and having had some of the same struggles, I cannot help but feel joy for him because how can you not??!!
I hope you and your wife are doing well
Me too, can't have kids. AT ALL. Always whining, needy, dumb and let's be honest, the cuteness wears off real fast.
We didn't ask you to self-describe, but thanks for doing it anyway
Every considered adoption? Most don't for some reason. It's a fine way to have a kid tho.
@@Good_Hot_Chocolatepass
I loved this segment because Im pretty sure Conan is a father figure to Mulaney, and Conan asking Mulaney to be Real at the end is really a dad saying his kid that he doesn't have to act like a clown to be loved.
Thanks for making me cry before breakfast! ❤
i could watch john mulaney do impressions of his son for DAYS. he's so naturally funny and a joy to witness
Conan has this smile on his face listening John’s stories about his son. He is so happy that John’s in a good place
Well, I confess, I just teared up when I had the thought that we have those people who conducted that intervention to thank for these stories about him with his son.
John probably has such amazingly funny stories with him and his son. I could listen to him for hours just telling us about their adventures.
John Mulaney is a gift to us all. I once ran into him and Neal Brennan on the street in Montreal - it made my night! I’m delighted that he is finding fatherhood so salutary.
My favorite part is the genuine offense that Conan takes to John asking him not to do a bit.
John has cemented his place as one of the absolute best CONAF guests. There are very few people who make Conan laugh harder. He's hilarious but he also wants to engage in deeper conversations, while still doing bits. Simply magnificent. No wonder he's been on three times now, such amazing chemistry.
It's CONAN, not CONAF. wtf
@@jpm199 name of the podcast
@@jpm199 a
@@VeronicaAlvarez-cn5pz Then wouldn't it be "CNAF"?
@@DrDolan2000 the O is his last name
Conan and John are both so enmeshed in bits, they just can't stop.
My nephew used to stare out the window and wait for the garbage truck for hours. I hope garbage men know how admired they are by that demographic.
They do for sure. Garbage men smiling and waving back at my kid made me think 2 year olds loving them is the best part of a generally thankless job.
My cat too!
that 'heoahoehe how kind' from John was such an amazing lightning fast way of destroying a kind and genuine moment haha
John Mulaney is my favourite comedian. He’s smart and witty but also slightly unhinged and I really understand and relate to that energy. Love all of his specials but his last was perfection.
Conan’s word to John and knowing that he was his idol growing up is something so special for John.
So good.. He's even funnier now that he's sober.. 🧡
I bet that was a real worry for him, but it's part of his makeup to be funny and creative; the drugs had no bearing. He says he's a boring interview, but I had a really good laugh.
I think its more the fact he has a wife who encourages him now instead of one who belittles him and constantly managed him like a child. It seems like olivia munn loved john for who he is and his previous girlfriend was always trying to turn him into someone else. Thats the kinda relationship that makes you want to relapse.
@@nullakjg767 don't forget, she had to put up with his drugging and behaviour for *years*.
@@KimBouchard...true, but he had to put up with her neurosis and anxiety. They were not a good mix together 😢
"someone having the wrong impression of me... that can be hurtful". Man, that hits. Generally in my behavior online, I can absolutely handle someone thinking I'm unfunny or I'm dumb (bc frankly most of the time, I am), I have a MUCH more difficult time handling someone thinking I'm a jerk.
back in the old days of the internet we'd reply, "jerk" but you take the fun out of it defining the joke. Way back you'd get tea-bagged. way way back in the day the kids with the first cable modems would send 1024K pings to your 56K modem but that's illegal now. Jerk is such a fluid word.
Well, he DID knock up a movie star behind his wife's back after she supported him through rehab. People don't like him because what he did was incredibly scummy.
@@BuildinWings a) strictly speaking, I was quoting what Conan said, and b) how do you know that's absolutely true? essentially it's celebrity gossip, which is not always the most dependable. I mean I understand Mulaney now has a child with a different woman than who he originally married, but beyond that...
@@kevinw712 He DID have a baby with someone from rehab that he impregnated before his divorce with Anna was finalized. That is 100% factual and well documented.
@@kelseyjenna9248 well okay, that's fair. I'm just not necessarily taking it for granted that that happening before a divorce was legally finalized that it means he did something immoral. As I understand it, that process can sometimes take a long time. a lot would depend on how his first wife viewed it
That was a really nice interview. You can really feel the affection. John is so funny, I'm interested to see where his comedy goes now that he's no longer got this sort of nice boy image.
Wow. Two comedy legends and seeing that they're human, aren't fearless is reassuring. How could anyone not like them.
I love his interests with his son. Such throwbacks. When my niece was young my brother would take her to some of the worst basketball courts in NYC to play ball. Would leave her in her stroller on the sidelines where the smell of weed wafted over. Of course she’d get some sun. My SIL was beside herself. My niece just turned 30. Everyone still lives in NYC. My brothers loved following garbage trucks on their bikes in the 70’s.
So much energy flow -- their regard for each other makes both the hilarious and the touching moments possible
One of the best guests / pairings - really genuine, good chemistry. Would love to see John back on the show soon!
The non bit moments are lovely, but, it's nice when they bookend those with bits. It feels honest and true. ❤
"My parents poured all their anxieties into me in a good way" said no one in therapy sessions.
didnt he just mean that because parents care for their children he's just able to worry about his son instead of himself, which in a way has to be relieving?
He meant his anxieties now come from having his son, which can be a good thing. You must not be a dad lol
Congrats to the 2 of you … what a great treat . Two fine funny guys talking about real life .
This was my favourite part of an already amazing conversation
Aw what a great ending in this interview!
Lol John telling Conan that he considers him to be an absolute hero was great-Made me smile and immediately think of when he was on Conan’s show and when Conan asked if he could do a Lorne impression he instead jokingly jabbed at Conan by saying Lorne always told him that he was the best Irish-American writer SNL ever had without doing an impression of him and after he had already flipped it to get Conan to do his impression🤣
I love how the most time and space to speak was when John was talking the little joys of wiffle ball and garbage truck with his son. But anything else serious, got too uncomfy for them not to constantly interrupt and joke around. It's a good dynamic lol
John is absolutely the most brilliant mind and the most precious human! Thank you for this!
Love that you guys are sharing more videos! It would be great if you released the whole recording- with your ads inbetween- than having to track down the recordings over different days. Great podcast!
you're not understanding the fact that they rightly still want there to be actual podcast incentive. it's so basic it's blinding. so sick of seeing this comment, from peeps who don't get that being a genuine podcast and not youtube-centralized is the goal.
@DanielBoonelight well they don't care because they don't consume it as a podcast. Or all their podcasts they do consume are really long form and tied to UA-cam. Etc. It's a valid request from the consumer perspective that if it was on UA-cam we'd click and it's too much effort maybe to go to the actual podcast area especially if for us podcasts are audio only things and this is so visual
@@VioletEmerald but, *again* , that only sees it from the single, myopic youtube-consumer perspective and not *their* perspective. did you even think that they may be payed better from podcast model? that the salaries involved depend on the podcast model thriving? regardless of their reasons, they obviously exist. conan is a HUGE brand and cooperative. they aren't just throwing out content not having boards think about every damn aspect of their model. can you for once think, 'let me try to see why they might want what they're doing, and actually give established bodies credit for their own decisions." this isn't rocket science. it's like, two chess moves of thinking. not one, like some second grader.
@DanielBoonelight of course I thought about how they are choosing strategically and hoping to make more money this other way. I'm not sure it's working for them if so many consumers are lazy these days and won't go off their preferred platform even if it's UA-cam though
I love John. I choked on my drink when Conan said his thank you was a bit
The sweetest talking about his little boy ❤
Truly Love how you fan each others flame.
I’m so happy to see John doing so well and so happy 🥹🫶🏼 God bless him and his sweet family. I hope he does another Netflix special soon!
this was a joy to watch and listen to ❤
Love these 2 so much! Glad they're actual friends ❤
You two bring joy, that's all i have to say about that.❤❤
Everyone should be able to go through a recovery style program even if you never touched a drop. The deep wisdom and openness to experience people come out with is something to behold. We all run from our emotions in some way, we just don't all use chemical poisons to do it.
I could listen to John Mulaney talk about playing “Base. BALL!” with Malcolm for hours ❤
What a wonderful interview
Thanks, Conan. What a treat. l love you both.
His short stint in the Bear was amazing.
That awed silence watching ______ at the grove caught me off guard and made me spit out my coffee
Man, I think they were already going through Olivia’s cancer diagnosis too. I hope they have much easier times ahead ❤
please upload the Dartmouth conversation between Conan and John !
Love these two
Greatest clip ever. I immediately had to listen to it again on the pod. "And we're just two morons..."
Even know I don't know John personally I am genuinely happy that he is so happy ❤ He is such a positive human being all together
Love them together!
I’m so happy John’s happy. You can see the difference in him and the amount of joy he’s found in his family. If I were him I’d say “Hi I’m John Mulaney, I’m your father” to Malcolm every morning just for the serotonin hit. Lol.
Truth.
My grandson being born changed my world.
It took me this long to appreciate the world on that beautiful of a level, our children's point of view.
John looks so much better. Hang in there John! Robert D. had a tough, tough go of recovery and look at how he has landed.
KCB! 😊👍 Thanks T CoCo! 🥰🎧
OMG I need to watch this entire podcast. I'm laughing so much I'm crying.
I like this "lived life a bit" Mulaney with real stories and not just like confidence, and performance.
John Mullaney fan... He was the funniest comedian. Since he has had Malcolm he is even funnier!!! I love that he loves being a dad.
The guy who swore he would NEVER have kids has a kid. So happy for him ❤
Ditto everything that Conan said about John! And Conan, you are greater than people know (yet).
John is such a great guest and funny human being !
John is insanely funny😂
Was that courteney cox line at 8:30 thought up on the spot, or is that a bit? Genius.
Why isn’t the full video released anywhere?
John Mulaney: "(...) no, do a bit actually."
Conan (in my mind) answering: "PAAAATER!!! Pater..."
Pity. Missed opportunity. Kidding. Great chemistry, this illustrious RPG community😂
Yes, this is a great interview!
Love these two ♥️💪♥️
Plz do a show with these two every week
2:53 is why we need the whole podcast in video form
Not a bad interview. I’ve watched it twice ❤
0:56 did not expect Jeff Ross to be name dropped I’ll tell you that much
So strange that a lot of us worry about what others think about them and the second they say something nice to you it's somehow painful lol
I really wish they'd update the session in it's entirety; I understand the reasons for breaking it apart but it would be nice if there were playlist per session.

Tell John that Malcolm wanting two whiffle bats, one for each hand, will continue as he discovers other things like rocks and small toys. My son always took two Hot Wheels cars, or two action figures (he called them "guys") everywhere, one for each hand.
Man hearing in background while working, thought it was the guy from Barenaked Ladies! Woo ooh woo, it's all been done! 😀
6:55 / 7:26 To see Conan's rapt attention as proud Dad John relates his exploits with his Tiny Person--the Cuteness Quotient is off the charts. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🥰🥰
Congrats to John on upgrading his hair from LEGO PERSON to POMPOUS DOUR.
I have a hard time listening to podcasts but if i can watch them like this? I mean I'd watch all day, especially if John Mulaney is on.

John being a basic human is actually very interesting ❤
“How do you really deal with it? Don’t do a bit.” And … Conan dies a little bit inside.
Hey - this isn’t rehab, John!
When I was in rehab, I couldn't stop doing bits and I was called out on it. .. a lot. 😂
@@heyelliew I have a feeling that John likely was, too.
Someone finally said it. Having kids removes the pressures of your current being 'cause you have to spend time on your kids...

these two could do a show the way Steve Martin and Martin Short have done. prob not the insults, but they have good flowing chemistry
2:22 💯
Yo! I just realize Conan podcast is almost as BIG as Joe Rogan when he was on UA-cam and its Awesome.
Garbage truck! Brings back amazing memories!
I can bet a lot of money that at the end of the clip Conan is quickly taking off his headphones just to stand up and hug John as soon as recording is over.
0:25 looking scrumptious btw
Garbage trucks are something. Just seeing the big dumpsters being unloaded too.
"I´m gonna wrap this up"
Wait...what? No! I could listen for some more hours easily
It's true though. That father bit was awesome.
Being a father felt to me like finally my brain was in full adult form. Before that you have all the cognition, possibly the best you'll ever get, but you waste most of it bc you don't know what matters and what you can drop entirely.
🤣 0:31 - 1:05 it doesn't Change
Mulaney was laser focused on Conan. Like he wanted to telegraph something other than comedic anecdotes and say he was staying strong and conquering his demons.
That's just John existing. He's like that everywhere and anywhere.
That's why he's so awesome!
