      Haha! So well observed and expressed! I love them both for it. Conan is a huge talent and very gifted at coaxing out the best from others, but so often seems to be a bit more humble than is necessary to the point of being shy and it being almost a sort of fault.

      This whole "imposter syndrome" wave, and maybe it's even Conan overtly encouraging his guests to display them on the podcast, is kind of a Hollywood humble brag at some point if literally everyone does it.

    i love how sincerity is like pulling teeth for comedians. it physically hurts them to sit with a genuine emotion and not do a bit to ease the tension.

      to be honest, i don't know if i totally buy it. Like when Hader talks about Conan it's obvious he's been a die hard fan for decades. With John, it feels a bit more contrived.

And I forget whether it was on a podcast or an interview but I remember him talking about telling his mother about his goals and he said he wanted to be like Conan. And she was hoping he meant he wanted to go to Harvard ...which is obviously not what he meant lol But it does seem like he has looked up to Conan as a comedy writer for a long time.

    I love seeing John get as much joy out of being with his son as we’ve all gotten from his comedy over the years. It’s really cool to see and hear him be genuinely joyful knowing his struggles. Way to go John!

    My wife and I can't have kids. Listening to these two and John's stories about his child encapsulates everything that I would have wanted in having a child. Also, having been a fan of his for so long and having had some of the same struggles, I cannot help but feel joy for him because how can you not??!!

    I loved this segment because Im pretty sure Conan is a father figure to Mulaney, and Conan asking Mulaney to be Real at the end is really a dad saying his kid that he doesn't have to act like a clown to be loved.

    John has cemented his place as one of the absolute best CONAF guests. There are very few people who make Conan laugh harder. He's hilarious but he also wants to engage in deeper conversations, while still doing bits. Simply magnificent. No wonder he's been on three times now, such amazing chemistry.

    John Mulaney is my favourite comedian. He’s smart and witty but also slightly unhinged and I really understand and relate to that energy. Love all of his specials but his last was perfection.

      I think its more the fact he has a wife who encourages him now instead of one who belittles him and constantly managed him like a child. It seems like olivia munn loved john for who he is and his previous girlfriend was always trying to turn him into someone else. Thats the kinda relationship that makes you want to relapse.

    "someone having the wrong impression of me... that can be hurtful". Man, that hits. Generally in my behavior online, I can absolutely handle someone thinking I'm unfunny or I'm dumb (bc frankly most of the time, I am), I have a MUCH more difficult time handling someone thinking I'm a jerk.

    I love his interests with his son. Such throwbacks. When my niece was young my brother would take her to some of the worst basketball courts in NYC to play ball. Would leave her in her stroller on the sidelines where the smell of weed wafted over. Of course she’d get some sun. My SIL was beside herself. My niece just turned 30. Everyone still lives in NYC. My brothers loved following garbage trucks on their bikes in the 70’s.

    Lol John telling Conan that he considers him to be an absolute hero was great-Made me smile and immediately think of when he was on Conan’s show and when Conan asked if he could do a Lorne impression he instead jokingly jabbed at Conan by saying Lorne always told him that he was the best Irish-American writer SNL ever had without doing an impression of him and after he had already flipped it to get Conan to do his impression🤣

    I love how the most time and space to speak was when John was talking the little joys of wiffle ball and garbage truck with his son. But anything else serious, got too uncomfy for them not to constantly interrupt and joke around. It's a good dynamic lol

It's a valid request from the consumer perspective that if it was on UA-cam we'd click and it's too much effort maybe to go to the actual podcast area especially if for us podcasts are audio only things and this is so visual

      @@VioletEmerald but, *again* , that only sees it from the single, myopic youtube-consumer perspective and not *their* perspective. did you even think that they may be payed better from podcast model? that the salaries involved depend on the podcast model thriving? regardless of their reasons, they obviously exist. conan is a HUGE brand and cooperative. they aren't just throwing out content not having boards think about every damn aspect of their model. can you for once think, 'let me try to see why they might want what they're doing, and actually give established bodies credit for their own decisions." this isn't rocket science. it's like, two chess moves of thinking. not one, like some second grader.

    Everyone should be able to go through a recovery style program even if you never touched a drop. The deep wisdom and openness to experience people come out with is something to behold. We all run from our emotions in some way, we just don't all use chemical poisons to do it.

    Tell John that Malcolm wanting two whiffle bats, one for each hand, will continue as he discovers other things like rocks and small toys. My son always took two Hot Wheels cars, or two action figures (he called them "guys") everywhere, one for each hand.

    It's true though. That father bit was awesome.
    Being a father felt to me like finally my brain was in full adult form. Before that you have all the cognition, possibly the best you'll ever get, but you waste most of it bc you don't know what matters and what you can drop entirely.

    Mulaney was laser focused on Conan. Like he wanted to telegraph something other than comedic anecdotes and say he was staying strong and conquering his demons.
