This is absolutely the best repair video I have ever watched on you tube.
I don’t know this guy but I would give him all my repair work. Extremely professional very very good video. Thank you for such great information.

This is the only video I can find for the later model year 3rd gen 4runner of the gas tank being dropped!
    Thank you for posting this

Doing this on my 96 4Runner only as precaution. 476,000km and the original pump still works flawlessly, but I'm worried about getting stranded off road when it finally goes. Not a pleasant job on jack stands. Some different connections and bolts than on mine. My tank bolts were 12 mm and the strap bolt was 14 mm. The high pressure steel line connection looks different too. The way this guy does it is the way to go. Lower the tank and disconnect hose at the top of the tank rather than the rear. The rear smaller hose pipe (by rubber filler hose) is attached by a 12 mm above the cross rail and is hard to get at and probably corroded so it will either break or skin your knuckles. The anti lock rear sensor wiring harness passes over the tank and is connected to the top by a plastic clip. I couldn't get it to release without damaging it, but you don't want the wires to break as you lower the tank. I've wire wheeled the whole top area and am painting it while it's off. I don't imagine I'll ever be taking the tank down again in the remaining life of the truck....although mine is mint underneath and shows no signs of giving up yet. Just incredible trucks these 3rd gens.

Definitely different from my 97 4runner. And its best to undo the wiring connectors from the access panel under the rear seat. Still great video.

Such a stupid ass design. Why put the pump access cover on the top? They should have made a bigger access cover under the backseat to complete all work from the top without sropping tank and getting carpel tunnel.

You still have to drop it cause of the hard lines running out the top
