  • lack of space time to drop the tank. reason why I cut the top. really don't feel like paying $700 for a complete genuine toyota new pump/sending unit and $500 labor plus for a shop to drop the tank and switch it out.

Rust proof the cut edges, seal the enclosure, cover with a sound deeding material and your good to go.

I can promise you this took 3 times longer than just dropping the tank. That's a mess dude.

When rust is a problem it’s best to not drop the tank

@@konradjaworski3222you’re right, you shouldn’t cut giant holes in your floor if you fear rust.

@@FIVEVEEZEEthat’s not what I was talking about lol, just because you can drop the tank doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be able to put it back in the car, cutting a hole in the floor in that location won’t lead to rust if you seal it properly

@@konradjaworski3222 you’re right, it’s much easier to seal a giant hole in a floor than it is to drill and tap some threads.

Car companies= now how do we make a menial task as changing a fuel pump more senselessly complicated ?
Engineers= yeah lets make it soo they gotta remove a skid plate and drop the tank

I have the same job ahead of me. I've had the same thought, but I can't see how this job can be done on 3rd gens without dropping the tank. All of those hard lines with connections on top of the tank can't be accessed through the hole. Did you somehow get it to work?

I'm thinking of cutting a hatch like yours, was the long metal fuel line able to come out of the hatch?
