This was a great breakdown, in particular the speculation on the workings of the energy shield was very interesting. The oscillating magnetic field is a clever idea that doesn't have anything glaringly physics defying about it, and explains the invisible unless interacted with personal shields. The magnetic field strength required to destroy incoming projectiles would be enormous, but considering the incredibly powerful magnet technology we see through the halo series in the MAC weapons and fusion power plants it seems fairly plausible. However it doesn't really explain the opaque shields created by jackal point defense gauntlets, covenant portable shields, and other large scale covenant shield systems. My theory is that these shields use a high energy plasma medium like previously hypothesized. This would explain the constant glow, and extra resilience compared to personal shields, as the plasma provides actual mass to slow down the projectile and better conduct heat into it. Shields used on Covenant spacecraft could also use this same mechanism, which would give them their incredible resilience, and create the shimmering bubble effect that is sometimes described in the novels when a Covenant spacecraft shield is active.
@@thyholynoodle6282 It doesn't necessarily need to, a hypothetical energy shield, or any protective system that is paired with another armor layer, like a Whipple shield (a thin sheet held apart from the hull or main armor plate, sometimes used to protect modern day spacecraft from debris impact) just need to absorb enough of the projectiles energy that the armor underneath can deflect it, either by slowing it down or causing the projectile to break apart and spread its energy over a wider area. That being said, with the absurdly powerful magnets and plasma technology in the Halo universe it would be fairly easy to create a plasma bubble with a magnetic field strong enough to redirect most projectiles easily, and contain plasma hot enough and heavy enough to vaporize or halt any projectiles that get through. In general armor is not designed to outright stop a projectile, just direct its energy elsewhere.
Would the shield containing a plasma medium also explain how shielded ships are able to drop small sections of the shield in order to fire their weapons? Because in this video, he talks about how a shield using only an oscillating magnetic field would go down across the entire shielded area if breached in one location, and it seems to me (who's taken one year of high school physics) that a shield using those principles wouldn't be able to only drop a select section.

Whoa, the explanation of the shields was particularly amazing. Sure it was a total rework of how you explained the Mjolnir armor shield, but it felt so much more complete, and made more sense. These MDBs never cease to amaze me
In theory then; couldn't this entire system be defeated by a ferrous projectile with an internal capacitor bank? By using inductance to cause a massive feedback loop, you could charge, discharge and recharge the capacitor using just the own shield's EM energy. So long as it was embedded, the shields wouldn't be able to recharge. And if the pulses were strong enough/frequent enough, you could even cause catastrophic damage. Excellent breakdown btw; even though it's one of my least favorite vehicles.
And this is partially why a 1 klick long "super-stack" Super-Mac such as the gun on Cairo Station can kill even a covie 5.3 klick long CAS-Class Assualt Carrier. That and a 3000 ton projectile is fired at 4% the speed of light with an impact force of 51.6 Gigatons equivalent to a blast force greater than 1,031 times that of Tsar Bomba. Its been stated more than once how important the UNSC gaining MACs during the years of the insurrection prior to the Human-Covenant War were and was one of the key aspects of the amount of fierce resistance humanity was able to throw up at the covenant in the face of overwhelming annihilation and genocide.
There was nothing better than getting a Hannibal Mantis and breaking that bad boy out during Warzone Firefight, knowing that you were going to own each round.
The shields magbetic field may be used to hold a small amount of plasma, creating a plasma wibnow as a gas barrier. Small solid particles could also be injected into the field the moment a larger field change (like a procectile) is measured, actingblike a high speed particle jet helping with shredding projectiles and disipating heat.
I'm not a physicist, but from what I know of armor and ballistics, it seems to me that having a physical medium, even if it is a high energy plasma rather than relying solely on the magnetic field strength (which would also severely screw with your onboard electronics as well) would significantly lower the energy cost of the shields, albeit at the cost of not actually being able to regenerate them once the field cage is broken due to the plasma leaking out.
I would love to see the Mantis in action in an animated series or live action, would be nice to see the marines messing up brutes w/out the help of spartans
As for the neural lace, I have my own theory on the matter, one which is based on the setting of Battletech, a franchise largely dedicated to mech combat. In Battletech, the pilots of these battlemechs, commonly refered to as Mechwarriors, wear large, often bulky "Neurohelmets", devices capable of reading brain signals in a non-invasive fashion, in a particualar, those of the inner ear area. While gyroscopes and the control computers of a mech can keep it upright and balanced, the neurohelmet enables more mine fine control as well as indicating to the on board systems when it is acceptable to be off-balance. This allows the mech to operate beyond its technical limitations, such as side stepping an attack or throwing its weight into a punch (Yes, battlemechs tend to end up in fisticuffs), all the way to impressive piloting feets such as performing a handstand. For reference, the mechs we are talking about are in the weight range from 25 metric tons (Light mechs) all the way to 100+ metric tons (Assaultmechs). Going back to the Mantis, I believe that the neural lace performs a similar purpose, allowing the pilot to have better fine control and the mech to be considerably more agile due to it not being limited by the more linear logic of mechanical sensors and control systems. Im leaving the reference page for the Neurohelmet in this comment, should you wish to read more about it, or just the Battletech universe in general (something for the Lore Core series ^^). www.sarna.net/wiki/Neurohelmet
Well not to dis any of this because as usual this was amazing and well thought out and researched... the only major thing of note I herd was that we NEED TO GET THS MAN TO 100K ASAP PEOPLE. HUP TOO DOUBLE TIME, SEND TO ALL FRIENDS, COWORKERS, ENEMIES, AND YES EVEN THE DREADED FAMILY. WE NEED THIS DONE NOW.
The militarization of police already exists in the real world, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that the UNSC would supply a couple of Mantises to law enforcement on human colonies to fight off any local insurgencies. Edit: There's also the fear factor of having a heavily armed mech with its weapons pointed directly at you.
The funny thing was I was watching different vid of his then watched something about what our future projects and half the list was from fucking halo. For example space elevators, Dyson spheres “onyx shield world,” halo rings but not really.
With humanity having to play space gorilla warfare against the created i wonder what will happen to ben and the rest of midnight facility are they all just gonna starve to death
Fusion does not have to be of deuterium. There are other fuels that can be used depending on the fusion reactor design (Helium-3, Tritium, and Boron I believe (know it is something that starts with a 'b') are the most commonly proposed fuels in addition to deuterium for fusion). In fact, some of these actually work better than the D-D reaction (D-T is one suggested reaction).
I have a lore related question in regards to the mantis. Is there an in-game or canon explanation as to the reason why the mantis in Halo 4 is a single fire missile system, while the Halo 5 mantis is a multi fire missile system. I understand that the mantis from H4 had a multi-fire mode (holding the trigger until all fired), But I am curious as to why the single fire mode was 'removed' from the vehicles' capabilities.
Nice breakdown. I would love to see a battle of Mantis vs Warhound Titans from 40K. The Mantis would have a advantage if piloted by Spartans but with humans it would be a great battle.
The mantis is canonical 5.7meters. It would be a better match up. if it went against a 40k dreadnought which is 3.7 meters. Since they are closer in size. But I agree with your sentiment it would be cool.
@@thecruzking in that case a Knight would be a good match size wise for a fight as they as 9 meters. Or a Dreadnought but a Contemptor as they are larger in size then the standard and more powerful.
Funny thing is that the MJOLNIR is a mobile suit. Tomino originally wanted a power armor for Gundam but the execs said they want giant robots. Why would a huge humanoid mech moves and fights as if as they're infantry? Tomino's inspiration for MS is none other than from Heinlein.
Is space frigates possible? I've designed some, and one designed ( fictional I must remind, but still possible.) Is where it uses space x star ships, a ion engine, at least 4 to 5 solid space habitats, and one inflatable habitat that can be rapped around with a exoskeleton. For direction control, control thrusters, and the same technology that causes the iss to rotate. Then of course you have artificial gravity which could be obtained with magnetism.

Whoa, the explanation of the shields was particularly amazing. Sure it was a total rework of how you explained the Mjolnir armor shield, but it felt so much more complete, and made more sense. These MDBs never cease to amaze me
MDB?
@@Alligator81 most detailed breakdown
Man I love this series. I can't wait for you to do the CAS, CSO and Infinity/Eternity :)
This hypothesis is the most realistic that I've heard concerning shields. Noice
Wow the energy shields make so much sense now.
You're Videos like meditation in my most loved Franchise 🙂
Just the breakdown of the armour and its make up. lends to your research and intelligence. Well done!
That mantis look like one of the mech from mech assault
Looks close to a Cougar to me, maybe a Squished Vulture?
Cougar and or definitely one of our 2 round bois. Though it somewhat has some resemblances to ragnarok
Damn I want a mantis to roam around in more than ever.👊💥🤘Another excellent breakdown man.
A nice vehicle. Seeing a Gauss Cannon Mantis would be a very scary sight.
Yes! I’ve been waiting for this one!
This channel is so underrated.
Yep old saying: shot the feet beneath out, joints
Great video. Can we please get a cyclops breakdown next
Installation00 are you going to do a detailed breakdown video on autumn class heavy cruiser in the future.
That's Metal Gear!? It's already active!
Great video man
It’s a metal gear with low rocket capacity.
As a wise man once said, "Armor for my armor"
"His name is freckles, because of the red dots on his face"
I would love to see the Mantis in action in an animated series or live action, would be nice to see the marines messing up brutes w/out the help of spartans
Mini Metal Gears
It was always werid how the Halo universe never invested in mechs

Halo 4 on PC!!!🥳🎊🎉
Everyone who gets to tinker with the Mantis: "MORE ARMOR!"
WE NEED THIS DONE NOW.
yay! another video
oh man the explanation of the energy shields is genius, its too bad the power requirements are beyond us as of now, at least on a small scale.
Great video keep up the good work.
M-Metal Gear?!
mantis man
*Spookston viewers has joined the fray*
Ah yes a man of culture
I like the new energy shield theory, it makes more sense to me
John-117 is also a MechWarrior
A more accurate view is that he is a cyborg.. which is what alot of people forget what spartans are..
I’m wondering why law enforcement would need a heavily armed mech for riot control
Best part of the video was seing arbi doing arbi tingz at 13:13
Makes me want to play Halo 5 again.
The funny thing was I was watching different vid of his then watched something about what our future projects and half the list was from fucking halo. For example space elevators, Dyson spheres “onyx shield world,” halo rings but not really.
I kinda hope we could drive the Mark II (D) Mega-Mantis. It looks like an absolute beast
Something that would be amazing is breaking down the Hawk from halo wars
With humanity having to play space gorilla warfare against the created i wonder what will happen to ben and the rest of midnight facility are they all just gonna starve to death
*guerilla
@@derrickwarner1 well done you're not dyslexic now have anything useful to say?
8:06 "Freckles!"
Awww I was super hoping you’d go over that massive looking Mantis that Johnson could call in back in HW2... but I guess it’s not canon or something?
Full on UNSC mobile suits when?
I would honestly love a banished mantis
The mantis wasn’t based off of the Mjonir armor as construction for Mjonir started in 2512 the Mantis was introduced in 2408
Speaking of mechs, if you would break down some stuff from the battletech universe that would be awesome
Most detailed breakdowns are fucking bingeworthy
Stand by for titanfall
Mantis?! I thought he was called Freckles?
So anyway "I started Blastin!" stomp stomp stomp
