    The directions for the ERP say idle at 1200 RPM for a MINIMUM of 10 minutes (Which should start after the engine meets operating temperature). For their $330 kit that's used by shops they recommend 3000RPM for 45 minutes. FOr this can, I've found that idling at 1200 RPM for 30 minutes gave consistently good results for oil consumption caused by stuck oil rings. Followed by new oil/filter run for a few days/few hundred miles and then a new oil/filter change for the normal cycle of 3000-4500 miles

      How do you idle at 1200 without sitting in the car with your foot on the gas?

  • @WisconsinDIYGuy

    I did this kit 2 yrs ago on a 2012 prius and replaced PCV valve. I had been using 1 quart in less than 500 miles. Probably due to listening to the 10k oil change interval recommendation. The kit reduced it to 1 qt per 1000 miles for a few months then consumption increaased again. So now i use seafoam in oil and gas tank and flush motor every oil change w standard motor flush from Oreillys. It only controls it a bit. No permanent fix. Replacing or cleaning the pcv valve is only temporary too since the cause is carboned up rings and EGR system. Use swivel long handle w deep socket for PCV valve.

    So, 2 years on, how is this faring? Would love to hear. My prius consumes oil above 110 km/h. It's been doing that last 2 oil changes. So as long as I stay below 110 roughly, it doesnt consume ANY oil. So wondering if I should do the above

    Hi! Thanks for the good information. I have a question. Should you account for the additive when refilling the crank case with oil, or put the whole four and a half quarts of oil in with the additive.

    • @SidewaysGts
      @SidewaysGts 2 роки тому +4

      I know this is an old comment but for anyone else who may cross and be curious:
      Add the additive first, then add oil until "full". In general, you dont want to overfill the crankcase/oilpan. Hope this helps. Cheers!

      I bought the rulline 350ml catch can and screwed the PCV valve into the out. That's where I moved it to , this way I can just unscrew it and vlean it out. I comes also with a 1/4 nosel that screws into the engine block and the I cut the U shaped hose that connects the PVC to the intake and put in a 1/4 connector. You can remove the air box and reach under to get to the PVC without taking off the intake manafold

    Is the hybrid BG MOA, EPR and 44k a different formula than the regular BG formulas, or do they both contain the same formula with a "hybrid" label to increase sales? Not to sound cynical, just wondering if the Hybrid line is the exact formula with a higher price tag?

    If you Prius owners change your oil every 5k miles or every 6 months you would never encounter this issue. I have 200k on my 2010 prius, zero oil consumption issue. I highly suggest to do a full EGR , EGR cooler clean and Full Throttle body and intake manifold cleaning and replace your PCV valve at least every 100k miles. Your Prius will be very happy

      I performed this as preventative maintenance as oil consumption and carbon build up around the piston rings is quite common on the 2010-2011 models. No oil consumption at 102k (roughly 15k after the maintenance)

    • @AmazonasBiotop
      @AmazonasBiotop 4 місяці тому

      @@HEVTech1Another and better way to prevent the ring build up and sticking.
      Is just to change oil more often in my opinion. Then you get the sot out and have clean oil that then can keep the oil rings also clean. Otherwise it is like trying to clean with dirty oil full of sot. That is impossible.
      It is like mop the floor with dirty water and try to get the floor cleaner..than the water is.. That is Impossible 🙅
      The recommended manufacture oil service intervals are proven to be far to long. And are there only to serve them and not the buyer.
      In short they make sure that any issue fall outside of warranty window. But they got their buyer in competitions against other car manufacturers..
      In other words if car manufacturer A say oil service intervals at 1000km and car manufacturer B says 1500km.
      And everything else is the same.. Guess whichever car the buyer choose.. 😂
      So the plan is:
      Sell a car but make sure that the oil consumption should develop outside of the warranty period..
      Job done. 😢

    Here in Russia we use en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyl_sulfoxide which is a very cheap and you can buy it in a drug store. It is a very strong solvent and can easily dissolve all deposits from the piston. But be very careful with it, as it also removes paint from engine oil pan and other internals, which can clog up oil passage. Again! Be very careful with paint inside the engine!

    NO NO NO. the oil is burning because of the PCV valve is side mounted on the bottom of the engine and recirculates back to the intake where it get burned. The only solution is to move the PCV to a higher position so the oil can go back to the engine and install a oil catch can " see oil catch can videos

    • @jafinch78

      Yes, that's my plan. I purchased the hose... though prefer to fabricate a metal tube from the original PCV Valve location to besides the EGR Radiator/Valve area where the PCV Valve will be relocated. I started making a video on I think... or at least posted on my FB. Though I got paranoid about having a rubber hose from the PCV stock location to the new location. My plan is to match the metal used at the stock location to prevent corrosion potential issues as well. Once I move forward on that plan... I think I'll be OK with installing what I've invested in so far.
      Might be rings as well since can get up around the pistons if the rings get stuck most likely my guess is due to not changing oil enough or more likely running with low oil for longer intervals.

      some of these do have ring issues, you can install 10 catch cans, and it's not going to solved the problem of oil consumption. The prius like the same years Scion TC (which burns nearly a qt every 6-800 miles right out of the factory. The only solution for this is to replace the rings, which should be done n paid for by toyota. The prius benefits by keeping the egr system clean, but some of them just burn oil period. If that is yours, then ring replacement is most likely the only solution

    As far as contaminants on the oil side... Only use High Quality Synthetic Oils ( Amsoil ), Amsoil Filters (or WIX) and MotorKote Hyper-Lubricant at 2oz per quart...
    Change before 10,000 miles ALWAYS... Also, don't buy off brand gasoline as it contains several different additive packages... I personally use only Shell Products in my area... I also use a MotorKote fuel additive every 3rd tank or so... 2 oz per tank !!!!!

    First of all good video
    Second of all, no offense but putting the empty can in a bag and then in the trash means theres a sealed flammable mini bomb in the landfill now.
    This is straight from the material data safety sheet
    "Waste packaging should be recycled. Incineration or landfill should only be considered when recycling is not feasible. This material and its container must be disposed of in a safe way. Care should be taken when handling emptied containers that have not been cleaned or rinsed out. Empty containers or liners may retain some product residues. Vapor from product residues may create a highly flammable or explosive atmosphere inside the container. "
