  • In this easy cooking video, I cook a frozen T-bone steak in my Instant Pot Ultra 60 pressure cooker. I cooked the steak for 1 minute on the pressure cook setting and released the pressure manually. Then I switched to the high saute' setting and seared the steak for about 1 minute on each side.

Good try. I've been wanting to try this too. I have a frozen ribeye that I'm testing tonight to add to Philly cheesesteak meat. Since I have the meat already and it's a small steak I thought I'd try it. Thanks for the video.

Don't know how I lived without this for so long! I make dog food for 2 of our dogs ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg (we have 5!) and it is so much quicker in this. Love having the inner pot stainless so I can use my immersion blender right in it without worrying about scratching. It makes potatoes great and fast! Still working on the vegetables, first time came out great, second time I did different ones and they were a little too mushy. Just need to adjust the time. I highly recommend this pot!!!

Thanks for the info! I am always getting offers for these “Instant Pots” to review on my cast-iron Cooking Channel. I prefer my steak cooked on cast-iron, or on the grill. Hard to get a good sear in one of those things. Thanks I think I was led to this video for a reason!

I agree! I love to cook steak on my stove top cast iron grill. I actually prefer that over my charcoal grill!

I just did it and it was very close to doing it on the grill never frozen. A surprise for sure, but if you think about it pressure cooking at 10-11 PSI forces the moisture in and the pressure alone thaws it. Mine was thicker and was also more rare when with 1 min of pressure. I sauteed it for 2.5min each side and it came out delicious medium/medium-rare and nicely seared. Thanks for posting this! Turned out way better than I originally imagined.

Watching you release the pressure was very satisfying.

I tried this with a thick, 50% defrosted steak. Low pressure for 2 min (the IP Ultra doesn't have a medium setting). It came out rare and was pretty good after browning on saute setting. But a skillet still works best.

Pretty good experiment Jim..some come home from work and it's all frozen...thicker steak would of been more tender eh. Very nice

Nice video! I’m going to try this with a NY strip on 0 tonight and preheat the cast iron while it’s pressurizing to sear once it’s done.

TosTinMan EasyCooking it was just okay. By the time it hit 0, it was already at about medium rare, so I wasn’t able to get a good sear on it or it would’ve overcooked. It may theoretically be possible to get the timing right, maybe pressure cook on low instead of high, maybe go ahead and quick release as soon as it starts to pressurize. But ultimately, if what you have is a frozen steak that you’re bound and determined to eat that day, I think it’s just best to quick thaw in a ziplock bag under cold running water and then cook it via a more conventional method.

I purchased a NY strip steak at a restaurant & didn't eat it & brought it home. I froze the steak & want to reheat it in the instant pot. How do I reheat it so it will still be juicy?

Just dump it in with about 2 cups water and seasonings and cook it for 15-18 mins per pound or per inch, then add 10 mins since it’s frozen. Should be juicy and tender and cooked through (the way I like it).

I gave it a thumbs up for showing us what not to do if a rare steak is what we want. Maybe pressure for 0 time then brown.

    • @TosTinManEasyCooking
