Not sure about the 24-30k kms per year logic. Petrol cars cost ~ ₹8 per km whereas EVs cost ₹1-2 per km. So even in the worst case scenarios it takes 50000 kms to make up the extra cost (including savings from service costs). Considering mass market owns cars for 5 years on average, one needs to drive not more than 10-12k kms per year which equates to ~1000 kms per month. Karthik sir the way your spot-on about 400's traction control and wheel spinning problem is .....Uff!. Here's the story. One of my friend got a XUV 400 from the first batch last year. One night he got into an accident with a Range rover. I'm like its a different league car...why? He said the acceleration was so exhilarating he felt confident racing that car. Hi, so I was seriously considering the EL Pro 39.5 KWH. I have beenn driving for about 11 years iin Bangalore now, and last 2 years have been Tigor EV, so I am familiar with EV driving too and I love how effortless and smooth yet powerful the EV driving experience. So I'm very tempted to go for another EV. I do have some questions - When you say XUV 400 feels incomplete even after the 2024 update - is there a safety concern in using the fast/fearless drive modes in city or on the highway? And if I understand correctly, Fun mode is more than adequate/punchy for the city, but on the highway it may limit your overtaking opportunities due to the cap on top-speed. But if your highway driving style is not rushed, but more laidback and if you overtake only when there's enough room and time in a steady/linear fashion than bursts of speed, would you still feel there's an issue/limit in using Fun mode on the highway? Or is there again a safety concern on using even the Fast mode on the highway, even if it's for overtaking? And in the city if I want to overtake in quick bursts (when I'm rushing to beat the traffic/signal etc) does the fun mode have enough power for that without a safety concern?
Was really attracted to the XUV 300 ... a friend who used to drive a Mitsubishi Outlander now drives the XUV 300 and praises it a lot ... now I am a bit confused how he is so happy with the XUV 300 after having driven a Mitsubishi Outlander
Hi Shumi and Kartik.. I'm planning to buy a new car which is automatic (not an amt) and the shortlisted vehicles were Nexon, 3X0 and Brezza.. Now to get a decently feature loaded variant of these cars I will have to set my budget to 13-14L.. so I thought of going for the punch ev lr.. which will be approx 14L on road here in Bangalore.. that's when I came to know that Mahindra is offering a flat 3L discount on xuv400.. which effectively makes the onroad cost of top variant 15.4L..with d Ready stock and delivery in 4 days .....considering the discount and vfm quotient.. do you guys think it's a good purchase?
10/10 for the quick summary. One thing I would point out is that the text prompts are way too quick to just glance at what's written in them. Look around the 15 mins timeline. Maybe a small tip would be to split the screen to show both the hosts and the info at the same time.
Bought the XUV400 EL Pro two weeks ago. Have owned and driven a Tesla model Y for over a year so I have lived the life of an EV owner. The space inside is just very practical and the performance of the car in “fun” mode is adequate. It makes a lot of sense to drive this car here in Bangalore with adequate charging infrastructure. Finally, I actually like the light steering wheel for a city car like this. Really helps be nimble in this stop start traffic. Where I feel they still have to do a lot more is the QA on the units. My drive mode switch was faulty from the time of delivery and is still not fixed. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt however i am patiently waiting for them to fix it with new switches. The OTA with CarPlay and adaptive reverse guidelines are also still just promises with no ETA Adrenox is no where close to being a finished product in itself, for me, this has been the biggest let down. ( remember my reference is a Tesla)
@@anshumanrathi8272 I am easily getting 250-270 when I drive calmly. But that instant acceleration never gets old and that’s when my range gets affected.
@@nithin4683 still would not exchange with any other ev in the market as I am quite satisfied with the car on a whole. The only thing that is a major let down has been the lack of communication and accountability from Mahindra on the car play stuff. All I get is the feature is coming “soon” on X as well. Feels like a bait and switch

Great episode. Regarding the last point that Shumi mentioned on an alternative way of replying to comments - one option can be to use a Natural Language Processing model to group similar questions together and answering them once. The same can be done for feedback (both positive and negative, especially positive). The added benefit is that viewers will have all the questions and answers in one place.

Thanks a ton guys! I came across this video at such an opportune time that I can’t believe its true. I took a TD of the XUV 400 just yesterday (26.08.24) & fell in love with it. Of course, I had done my background research but there’s only so much that we commoners can analyse an automobile product (unlike the experts that you guys are). I had almost decided to bite the bullet but after listening to this video, I would definitely like to wait for the “EL Pro Max” update to jump on to the EV bandwagon. Thanks once again ❤
Man - what an exhaustive, smart, and what felt like a truly unbiased detailed analysis of an EV!! Absolutely enjoyed watching this. Love the clean, no non-sense (no unnecessary background score) approach of the video. And your summarising skills are off the charts! I could have simply watched that section and got my answers! But loved the entire video!
Suggestion..dont know if anyone pointed it out or not...the sudden camera changes from shumi to kartikey and vice versa .. doesn't look stable...try to keep the camera such that both fit in a single frame.. looks really good
44:55 The top end XUV300 Turbo Petrol AMT costs about 70k less on road Maharashtra than the XUV400 EL Pro single tone 39.5KWh. That's about 1500/month difference in EMI. Or about 15 liters of petrol (that will take you about 200km on the Turbo Petrol) 250km in 1 month is all it takes for it to become economically viable in month#1. How do you say that it will take 100km/day? And remember that this is for a larger car than the XUV300. Do explain this one.
@@ajayrathore8704 Correction: the ICE price is for the Diesel. But then it just increases the breakeven point from 250 to 350km / month! That's still much much lower than Karthik's estimate of 2000-3000km.
If you take any car in 28% GST + 15% (or 22%) cess, it's EV counterpart would be definitely better. Only in case of sub 4m sub 1.2L engines, petrol would be competitive
@MotorInc, @Shumi, Guys, the lengths you go to to reply to almost all comments is insane! It has always been a huge differentiator and something I love and respect you guys for. And so I have absolutely no problem believing its becoming dofficult/messy... Huge respect to you guys for trying to think of a way to keep interacting with us. Hope you can find a solution where we can still interact but its not hectic like crazy for you guys...
Here is one topic I would like you guys to talk about. The lack of 7 seater SUVs with side-facing third row seats that come with an automatic transmission. Why is this important? Because I own a TUV 300 AMT version and I'm finding it incredibly difficult to replace it. Side-facing third row seats provide an independent door for third row passengers to get in and out of the car without disturbing second row passengers. When you have a single passenger on the third row containing side-facing seats, that person gets to stretch their legs like they're on a bed. In conclusion, I would say that unless you put tall people in them (you shouldn't be putting tall people in any third row to begin with), side facing third row seats are superior to front facing third row seats. An automatic transmission option on such a vehicle provides added convenience. The only vehicles that offer side-facing third row seats anymore are the Bolero, Bolero Neo and the Scorpio Classic and unfortunately, none of them provide an automatic transmission option anymore.
As a current owner I'll say they r right in saying that its sort of incomplete but for the price it offers what I was looking for although they could've added 360 cam and ventilated at the least
Your Video Editor is amazing. Your discussion or the research are seriously good but i think behind the scenes efforts also needs to be appreciated. Good job Summary 10/10
There is one point of the review where I have a different point of view and maybe that is because I am an EV owner is that it is an economical decision. Be it cost of charging and also the maintenance cost overall they are much much cheaper than ICE vehicles. I would definitely want to hear more as to why Kartikeya feels that they are a lifestyle decision and not an economical one.

Most of the people who are buying an electric vehicle today, are just buying it for the experience, for a city car it is fairly economic, just have a blast for a commute of 150km per day and just forget about the fuel prices with acceleration this quick, plus the cost of service is just about 2k and I know soke people who had bought nexon back in 2020 and they have done upwards of 75k km and there is no major part change including the tyres, they don't give broader tyres so that we can get more range from the ev

Shame to see such a capable company leave a developing country which has such high potential. I unfortunately am not able to find the brochure online anywhere but I might have the physical copy of it lying somewhere since the time I bought it 😂 if you anybody wants it, do reply I’ll scan it and drop a g-drive link.
Agree with what all has covered....i am one of the Beta testers of the car😅 love the car...but really disappointed that the car became outdated in a single year with pro model launched......one issue with the car is lack of accessories.
Low was also used by honda amaze diesel automatic 1.5 i-dtec and it means that it won't go to higher gear and in mahindra it means Low speeds and if you try to go high speed it will just leave you stranded when ever you leave the accelerate peddle with that pull of regen. As far as the previous owners are concerned, I have many friends who have bought the "pre feature version" the good part was that they got a heavy discount on the top end variant at that time(long range model) many of them got it for around 16.5 lakhs including the fast charger and fair deal of accesories
Mahindra's NMC chemistry vs Tata's LFP chemistry which is better as per your vision?? I also heard that in Mahindra's upcoming born electric cars they are using BYD's Blade Technology Batteries. Have to see. In blade technology batteries there will be a gap between each battery cell with which if one cell gets effected it doesn't pass on to the other cells.
In my view Mahindras NMC is better than Tatas LFP because , 1. Mahindra uses the battery of Farasis Energy which is a brand in worlds top 10 battery manufacturer list. Whereas Tata haven't yet properly reported the company they use. 2. Nexon EV has a large number of battery replacement got within the last few months where none of XUV never did a battery replacement. 3. If Tatas LFP is of a good quality why can't they offer a good period of warranty like BYD does. 4.LFP is a testing technology it's still not that stable as NMC. So BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Premium cars of Tesla,Volvo,Kia,Hyundai all uses the same NMC as Mahindra. After these scenarios I think XUVs NMC is obviously better than TATAs LFP. But still actual LFP technology of BYD which is gonna be used in future BE series of Mahindra can be better than current NMC of XUV400
@@HkJ3708Tata uses GotionGX cells Battery replacement is a last resort solution for errors which can’t be resolved at dealer level, since replacement offers fastest turnaround time for issue resolution because dealer cannot open battery due to tool and worker lacking Nexon EV has sold 100k+ unit so obv purely statistically, even if both xuv and Nexon have equal issues, more number of nexons will be affected BYD LFP is gold standard of LFP Next CATL Qilin LFP Tata LFP is nowhere close to them, that much I agree BMW Mercedes etc make performance cars for which LFP adds extra weight which is undesirable Further, for these luxury cars, cost is not an issue for their buyers but for budget cars it is. Most of these western EV makers have colder climates where NMC works fine while for hotter climates, LFP is suited due to its higher operating temp range of 60°C compared to NMC which is good till 30°C only
@@HkJ3708 Your points are far from the truth - 1. It's mahindra that doesn't report which batteries they are using. It's only media reports that claim it's either LGChem or Farasis. No official work. Heck they didn't even acknowledge theirs were NMC batteries. Only when someone dug up their submission to some govt authority that it became clear that these are NMC batteries indeed. Tata, on the other hand, is fairly transparent about the batteries. From what I remember, theirs are mostly CATL LFP batteries now. Top of the line. 2. Nexon EVs have been sold in very high numbers. XUV400 even removtely doesn't compare with the number of nexon-evs on the road. So there are visible battery failure cases in the media. OTOH, there has been a battery burning case recently, which, to Mahindra's credit, was handled very reasonably by the company. Also, if I am not wrong, the earlier nexons which are facing hv-critical issues, are NMC battery based Nexons. LFP has been introduced by Tata fairly recently. I might be wrong though. 3. Don't understand this. Tata, like most manufacturers, offers 8yr 160k km warranty on the battery. That's industry standard across the world. Who care what BYD is offering really!? There are youtube videos of owners runnig 2L and 3L kms on older nexon-evs now, without much battery degradation. That's more than enough for most of the car owners. 4. LFP is very well established now, and in fact NMC is on its way out, in favour of LFP. Let's not claim misleading things. And yeah, I am an Xuv400 owner myself. Yes, I bought one couple of weeks back, despite all the negative talk about the car. It's a fantastic car, as long as you know what you are getting into. Both Tata and Mahindra offer excellent cars with good tech and some niggles. Take your pick.
@@shreyas.kulkarni I dont think your facts are right. Tata has always claimed they use LFP and also still they have all the complaints. Somehow XUV is far reliable and dependable than Tata. Last friday my friends Tigor got critical error and Charging issue without any reason and SC said dont wash the vehicle and dont drive through any water wich is illogical and also the prob was water content inside HV components 😂. Whatever you say Tata is never trust worthy. Also I would say not only Mahindra all other brands Citroen,Mg,Byd all are better than Tata.
One important thing that's missed in this otherwise great discussion was the battery pack chemistry used in XUV400 and its difference with what we get in Nexon EV. XUV uses Ni-MH (also known as NMC) type battery pack, which is cheaper to produce, have less longevity (charge cycles), self-discharges even at no use (for longer durations) and less secure overall as it is more likely to experience thermal runaway. On the other hand, Nexon uses LFP batteries which is indeed less environmental friendly (contains toxic elements such as cadmium) but in the vehicle they can perform better even after years of abuse and after many charge-cycles. .They don't discharge without a power draw for longer durations and is a safer option as well.
I am glad you guys have put a caveat on buying an EV. I whole heartedly agree with it. EV is only for rich people. Poor and middle class people ahould.not touch EVs.
@@motorinc EV? Hell No. I don't drive extensively anymore. Now it's more city drive and occasional long drives. EVs just doesn't feel right especially coming from Tatas and Mahindras. Will wait for more choices in hybrid cars in the future hopefully in 2-3 years time. Hybrid revolution is coming....😊

I think automobile companies should start thinking of launching retro vehicles with tech Gizmos inside and am feeling there is a big market for such retro looking vehicles! Unless it's me going thru a mid life feeling😂
I've got my 10 paise here - 1. Automobile manufacturers need to stop being as juvenile as cell phone makers, atleast when it comes to their naming conventions. If I were to walk into a dealership today and start getting bombarded with Pro, Pro Max, Pro Mistress snd what not, I am walking away with my money in my pocket. 2. EL is probably comparable to the Nexon Long Range, EC will probably go up against the Nexon Medium Range. 3. L Mode - Lazy Mode? 🤔 Considering its a single pedal driving mode 😂😂😂 4. This is why Shumi is a legend in my book, "Oh sheet!" 😂😂😂 10/10 for that crisp, masaledaar summary. I sincerely hope Mr. Anand Mahindra watches this and does the needful.
36:20 what Karthik is saying is exactly how a deflationary economy works. If something/everything is going down in price, it makes more sense to hold on to your cash and not buy. If everyone starts doing that, companies drop prices even more to get sales and that feeds the vicious circle. Thankfully the ICE cars are going up in price while EV prices are coming down. So at least there will be some people sitting on the fence with each price drop who will opt for the now-cheaper EV instead. This will continue till ICE cars are jo longer viable sellers and then EV prices will finally start their inflationary journey that the *mature* ICE cars are on now.
A while back there was a media blitz of many prominent channels doing review of Nexon Vs 400, all of them recommended Nexon at the end but it was quite evident that they were really promoting and making a case for 400 by giving it more air time in the video. You didn't just give an honest review but also talked about EV purchase dilemmas which needs a deeper conversation. My everyday commute is 70 km, 5 days a week, will EV make sense?
Definitely go ahead brother. I drive around 2,000kms a month. Now I'm at 12,000km exactly after 6months. In my calculations by 5years I would cover the car cost entirely. 😂 I drive Tiago EV. Go ahead.. 👍
Late to the party but I am someone who drives 80 kms minimum a day for 6 days a week with a cng vehicle. I don't think the premium charged by Ev's make any sense because the cost of ownership is so high as compared to the car I own, it doesn't make any sense to me. Given I live in Gujarat, I usually don't face queues for CNG pump at all for the 95% of the time. Would surely a comparison cng vs EV on cost metrics sometime in the future.
Kindly review Tiago ev as i was looking for review Tiago ev of this kind but not found one on UA-cam. Isn't it best affordable ev available in india? We need to hear your opinion on tiago ev also.

Now to get a decently feature loaded variant of these cars I will have to set my budget to 13-14L.. so I thought of going for the punch ev lr.. which will be approx 14L on road here in Bangalore.. that's when I came to know that Mahindra is offering a flat 3L discount on xuv400.. which effectively makes the onroad cost of top variant 15.4L..with d
Ready stock and delivery in 4 days .....considering the discount and vfm quotient.. do you guys think it's a good purchase?
10/10 for the quick summary. One thing I would point out is that the text prompts are way too quick to just glance at what's written in them. Look around the 15 mins timeline. Maybe a small tip would be to split the screen to show both the hosts and the info at the same time.
Amazing perspective. I think it's about time we talk about all of the EVs under each segment in India.
🙏🏾 Thanks for the suggestion!
The OTA with CarPlay and adaptive reverse guidelines are also still just promises with no ETA
Adrenox is no where close to being a finished product in itself, for me, this has been the biggest let down. ( remember my reference is a Tesla)

The only thing that is a major let down has been the lack of communication and accountability from Mahindra on the car play stuff. All I get is the feature is coming “soon” on X as well. Feels like a bait and switch

Honestly, the real things addressed.! Kudos team! I have driven it around 20,000kms now and it was just so simple to figure everything out in first 200kms, I am not sure what all other influencers are promoting without these real touch points. Just love the reactions of Karthik when Schumi asks about EC, EL and L-mode. I can totally relate to him as this is the same reaction I have when I go to customer discussions where you are always asked about the things you did not prepare or thought its important.
Now we want to know more about what you do! 😁
Amazing all your videos are so good its close to perfection even by international standards I just love them.
Thank you so much 😀!
Your Summary was brilliant... just that after the summary you still had some more left to say 😅
Wish you guys take on the manufacturers for After Sales Service too...
Why don't you guys start something like the JD POWER thing
Great episode. Regarding the last point that Shumi mentioned on an alternative way of replying to comments - one option can be to use a Natural Language Processing model to group similar questions together and answering them once. The same can be done for feedback (both positive and negative, especially positive). The added benefit is that viewers will have all the questions and answers in one place.
Thanks for the suggestion Agastya! Awesome!
I'm at 12,000kms in exact 6months.
My experience is I won't go back to ICE in future if I have a choice.

Thank you for taking the time to share @microbiologykidwai9260! Do let us know once you've got it.

Dear Sir, is it wise to get 10 months old manufacturing car if getting discount on a tune of 2.5 lacs. Variant is slavia 1.5 tsi mt ambition model

44:55 The top end XUV300 Turbo Petrol AMT costs about 70k less on road Maharashtra than the XUV400 EL Pro single tone 39.5KWh. That's about 1500/month difference in EMI. Or about 15 liters of petrol (that will take you about 200km on the Turbo Petrol)
250km in 1 month is all it takes for it to become economically viable in month#1. How do you say that it will take 100km/day? And remember that this is for a larger car than the XUV300. Do explain this one.
Good point actually. I am also interested in knowing this.
@@ajayrathore8704 Correction: the ICE price is for the Diesel. But then it just increases the breakeven point from 250 to 350km / month! That's still much much lower than Karthik's estimate of 2000-3000km.
Exactly I also did the same calculation. If you are driving 300km per month, you are breaking even. At 500 km per month, it's a no brainer
If you take any car in 28% GST + 15% (or 22%) cess, it's EV counterpart would be definitely better. Only in case of sub 4m sub 1.2L engines, petrol would be competitive
But then you are also getting a lower class product compared to seltos and cretas of the world.
Thanks for being with us in these conversations! Means a lot.
In conclusion, I would say that unless you put tall people in them (you shouldn't be putting tall people in any third row to begin with), side facing third row seats are superior to
front facing third row seats.
10/10 on the summary and watching the whole empirical conversation about a vehicle is EL Pro Max.

Alright! Thank you!
So have we. If they do, it will be awesome.
In my view Mahindras NMC is better than Tatas LFP because ,
@@HkJ3708Tata uses GotionGX cells
Battery replacement is a last resort solution for errors which can’t be resolved at dealer level, since replacement offers fastest turnaround time for issue resolution because dealer cannot open battery due to tool and worker lacking
Nexon EV has sold 100k+ unit so obv purely statistically, even if both xuv and Nexon have equal issues, more number of nexons will be affected
BYD LFP is gold standard of LFP
Next CATL Qilin LFP
Tata LFP is nowhere close to them, that much I agree
BMW Mercedes etc make performance cars for which LFP adds extra weight which is undesirable
Further, for these luxury cars, cost is not an issue for their buyers but for budget cars it is.
Most of these western EV makers have colder climates where NMC works fine while for hotter climates, LFP is suited due to its higher operating temp range of 60°C compared to NMC which is good till 30°C only
@@HkJ3708 Your points are far from the truth -

ICE cars are also getting discounts now. Great time to go car shopping!
A while back there was a media blitz of many prominent channels doing review of Nexon Vs 400, all of them recommended Nexon at the end but it was quite evident that they were really promoting and making a case for 400 by giving it more air time in the video.

Late to the party but I am someone who drives 80 kms minimum a day for 6 days a week with a cng vehicle.
