- If there's one sherrif you really don't want chasing your ass cross country, it's most certainly Buford T. Justice of Texas. The reason for this is simple, once he's after he will not stop!
This is the best of Jackie Gleason's character Buford T. Justice in the huge 1977 smash hit film Smokey and the Bandit!

Only Jackie Gleason could play Buford T Justice. No one else.
Ecacta Mundo Sumbitch... Lol😅!!
“The god damn Germans got nothing to do wit it!” One of the best lines of the movie 🤣😂

I totally agree
You sumbitches couldn't close an umbrella had me in stitches.
Oh, you sounded a little taller on radio 🤣
"No way... no WAY that you could come from my loins." Absolutely one of the best lines in any movie. RIP
And right after when he said "Ima go home and punch yo momma in her mouth " 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Jackie was too damn funny!
"As soon as I get home the first thing I'm gonna do is punch your momma in the mouth"
Truth!
Poor Junior 😂
First thing I'm gonna a do when I get home is slap your mother.
Jr: "Daddy look, there's an alligator in the road"
Justice: "that reminds me Son, i gotta call your mama "
Lool
I had the opportunity to meet Hal Needham(Director and Writer of Smokey and the Bandit). Needham told me that 85 to 90% of Jackie Gleason's dialogue in the movie was Ad Lib. He said they never knew from one minute to the next what was going to come out of his mouth and it was always hysterical. A True Comedy Genius.
He ad libbed most of his dialogue when he did the Honeymooners as well.
Burt Reynolds said that his dad was a cop and he remembered everythign he and his friends always said was "sum, bitch" He told Jackie Gleeson this
Daddy, he had a lot of friends............ If they would have cremated that sum' bitch I could have been kicking that Bandits ass around the moon by now...........LOL.
And that's why Jackie's known as The Great One.
And they reckon Robin Williams was the king of adlibs. Jackie was one of the true comedians. I love these movies. But only the first 2 the 3rd one was rubbish.. Dom Deluise was gold in the 2nd movie.
"Im gonna barbeque your ass in molasses" i nearly pissed myself wen he said that, wat a pure genius Gleason was

“I happen to have my young son in the car (40 year old man 😂😂) & I don’t want to hear that kind of language!” My goodness..Jackie was hilarious 😆
"I'm in a high speed pursuit!!! Don't you hear good???" 😂😂😂
Nobody could have played that role any better.
I couldn't agree any more what a great outstanding job he did miss them both today
He made up most of lines for his part. He read the script and told the director, "I got this" and just made up his own lines as he went along.
Harold Ashley l
@Mag Dump lol, I can see that
Samuel l Jackson will play Justice in the remake no doubt... Cardi b - frog etc etc u get it
Jackie was a legend!. He stole the show in these films.
"You sounded taller on the phone" .LMFAO
Absolutely stole these movies
Jackie Gleason is great actor and very funny
And in the Honeymooners
Tim Dumoulin Agree!!! Sum bitch !!
There is no way , no way. They could ever make movies like this again. The classics. Comedic Genius
The woke brigade would make sure that it would never see the light of day
I love the Diner Scene where The Bandit is calmly messing with Buford and Buford doesn’t even know they guy he’s talking to is the guy he’s chasing. It’s honestly my favorite scene in the movie.
“Diablo sammich” was pure gold!
This can't be touched.dont ever try to remake this.
Totally agree. Too many folks played their role perfectly on this
I completely agree. You can't improve on perfection. Anything else will be subpar quality.
U right. There are many movies n shows that should nvr hv bn remade...but this 1 mos def cant b touched...nobody pursued their man like BUFORD T. JUSTICE. but he nvr recognized bandit whn he was face2face w him was golden
Al Connolly all those scenes were from the original movie.
They will make an all female reboot.
“Let me have a Diablo sammich and a Dr Pepper, and make it fast! I’m in a got-damn hurry!”
Where is the can? I gotta take a squirt!
I tried google a couple years ago but didnt get a definitive answer as to what a diablo sandwich is.

#We haven't got time for that crap# Only Jackie Gleason can shout like that and make me laugh 😂 😂
Justice: You want somthin'?!
Junior: Hushpuppies, Daddy!
Justice: We got no time for that crap!
Me: LMAO 😂
Can never ever get tired of watching this movie. Every role was perfectly cast and perfectly portrayed.
I watch it every time it comes on
I put it in the DVD player at least once a week.
Honestly same, this is actually my favorite movie…
And the greatest movie of all time according to my dad lol
The entire scene where the auto transport driver takes off the car door. Justice’s rant is absolutely hilarious! Followed by his reaction to Jr. holding “the evidence “ in his lap…
“There is no way…no waay…” 😆😆🙂
“Put the evidence in car.”
“But Daddy…”
*”PUT THE EVIDENCE IN THE CAH!”*

I always wondered who that Japyneese feller was.
They couldn't of picked a more perfect person to play sherrif Buford T. Justice than Jackie Gleason!
It's said that Jackie was great up until a certain time then he would be drunk and they couldn't film him till the next day.
I heard Burt Reynolds wanted him for the part !
If that's true , that's another brilliant Burt Reynolds move for the hapiness of us all !
Ralph Kramden, Buford T. Justice, and Minnesota Fats, his best career roles.
@@brianhoule3219 It's true, Burt did want Jackie to play the part. When Jackie read the script though he thought it was garbage, but he was begged to do the part and agreed to do it only if he could swear throughout the whole movie. And he does swear a lot including saying the F word which was dubbed over by Henry Corden, the second voice actor of Fred Flintstone. When the TV version came out in the early 80s, Henry Corden dubbed over all of Jackie's swear words and also when Jackie says "What the hell do you know?", it's Henry's voice dubbed over because Jackie said "What the fuck do you know?"
@@AlfredHawthornBennyHill That line of Jackie's "what the hell you know?". Always wondered why all the versions were so obviously dubbed!
One of the greatest films ever made.. a classic that will never get old..
Always
can't bet this. bearly get better then this
No shit
My favorite movie of all time. Ever
The first time I ever watched this was when I got sick, and I saw this on the TV, I thank God every day I was sick that time, otherwise I never would have come across this masterpiece!!!!
RIP Jacky Gleason you truly were the Great One!
For my money, Jackie's finest performance. Just brilliant.
"Did you see that? They ran right through our road block." "You sumbitches couldn't close an umbrella."
😂😂😂😂😂
You know it's a great movie when 4 generations can watch it together and laugh everytime. RIP Burt, Jackie, and Jerry. Buford can finally kick bandit's ass around the moon lol.
Damn...He had a lot of friends didn't he?
Fourthgear88 Don’t forget about Pat McCormick (an American actor who portrayed as Big Enos Burdette) passed away as well.
More like kick his ass around the pearly gates
👍No doubt!
hey don't forget Fred is up there too
Should have won the academy award for that performance😎
3:56 My favorite line, and especially the Bandit's laugh as well as him saying,"do the letters 'F O' mean anything to you?"
“There’s no way that you could have came from my loins, when I get home, I’m gonna punch yo mamma right in the mouth”. Lol
My favorite line😂
Nobody and I mean nobody could have played Buford T. Justice like Jackie Gleason. Lots of great lines, but I think my favorite is "I'm gonna baw be que yo' ass in molasses!"
What I wouldn’t give for a full sized stand up of Gleason in that scene. His face was so red I thought his head was going to blow.
My Favorite Was J,R when I get home I'm going to Punch Your Momma Right in the Mouth

"Apprehend that horse's ass for wreckless driving!" That part kills me at the end.. LMAO!
It took my brother, to say that our father looks and act like Buford T Justice. My daddy was also a sheriff too, here in New Orleans. Daddy couldn’t stop laughing, he even looks like him too. They can go for twins🤣🤣🤣. RIP Daddy and Jackie Gleason.

Jackie Gleason was the greatest. This character will forever be iconic. His insults to his son still crack me up to this day.
Yeah he definitely stole the movie. No disrespect to Burt Reynolds, Jerry Reed, or Sally Field they were all great too..but Jackie was just on another level with the comedy.
4:58. "Put the evidence in the car!!" That facial expression was just genius. I can only imagine how many takes Buford and Junior had to go through with Junior cracking up each time..
And don’t play with yourself. You can THINK about it, but dooon’t do it! Lmao
It wouldn't look nice on my highway.
RIP John Herbert "Jackie" Gleason.
Jackie Gleason was the first to suggest No Nut November.

The look on Sheriff Branford's face right after Buford T Justice says "you sounded a little taller on radio" is absolutely hilarious!!

I have probably watched Smokey and the Bandit at least 100 times back in the early 1980's as a kid on HBO. Still one of my top 5 favorites of all. Hard to believe Jackie Gleason has been gone for more than 30 years now.
Why didnt you watch it in the 70s when it was RELEASED ?
@@theodoreritola7641 I was 5 when it was released. My first memory of watching it was 1981. I also eventually ended up buying a very nice and well cared for 1977 T/A.

I was 10 years old when my mother took me to see it & I loved every minute of it! When I cussed like Jackie Gleason my mother just laughed & laughed but I knew I could only say those words at home. Unfortunately
It's impossible because today's "comedy actors" are talentless
It’s too politically incorrect which is why I’ve lost count as to how many times I’ve watched this movie. First time watching it was at a drive-in movie theater in 1978. Absolutely a classic.
Smokey and the Bandit and Every which way but Loose were a rites of passage for fathers and sons everywhere- they don’t make movies like that anymore.

The dinner scene was Gleasons idea. He thought that there should be a scene in whcih the bandit and smokey met. Gleason adlibed the entire dinner scene, and it is funny as hell!
Love that chemistry between Jackie and Burt reynolds ,May they both make each other laugh up the great Beyond .R I P.
Mr. Gleason ad libbed almost all of his scenes, actually. That was the only way they could get him to do it.

Sheriff Justice misunderstood.
He thought Sheriff Branford was referencing the Germans when actually Branford was informing him he was out of jurisdiction and the fact he was a sheriff was not relevant, "germane" to the situation, pursuing the Bandit, in his territory..
The humor of it all is, Buford thinks he's the cat's pajamas, yelling at Branford "The Goddamn German's got nothing to do with it"! when actually he's simple minded knucklehead that doesn't understand the word germane..

That Pontiac went through so much hell where today's cars can't survive after the first stunt.
I bet there was more than one car used!
I think 2 or 3 were used.
Patrick Brennan there were way more than that wrecked.... there were more than 51 cars totaled in the first 5 episodes alone according to the original car builder
@@zerohourdrift I actually got to see one of the "real" stunt cars that a guy had gotten ahold of at a car show in Lewiston Idaho years ago an according to the owner they destroyed close to about 400 '68-'69 chargers for that whole series. I normally would've been skeptical of his claim but he had loads of authenticity paperwork and photos, pics of it in the back lot in Burbank CA where they took what was left to sit and rot. Boss Hogg's elderado and a group of Rosco's lebaron patrol cars were also there. He showed me a big stack of paperwork that he had to sign per Warner Bros lawyers to be able to purchase it stating what he could and couldn't do with the car and if he breeched any of it that they would Sue him into Oblivion. He stated that he almost didn't get it and took a lot of time to convince them to allow the purchase being that they wanted all left over cars crushed rather than sold for obvious liability reasons. The car he had was pretty thrashed but was still cool and one of just a few left that was actually still somewhat complete. Oh and he walks over to the driver side door and opens it and says, " as you can see the weren't welded shut" lol.
John Asbach yeah I had heard the same, that somewhere around 400 were trashed for the show. It’s sad, and drove up the prices of the cars, but we got such a great tv show from it😂
