    is he holding on to his sleeve with his left arm while he wraps his leg around?

    • @AntonZwijsen
      @AntonZwijsen  4 роки тому +9

      You can either grab the sleeve or wrap your arm around uke's arm just like in Kanuki-Gatame. The latter is the only option in a no-gi situation of course. However, this direct kanuki-gatame-like grip can actually dislocate the elbow joint while you are in the air, so be careful with this. That's why in-the-air I loosen up a little bit towards a high sleeve grip.
      In this variation it's also easier to maintain the kanuki-gatame-like-grip during the 'flight', as you give yourself some more space by entering sideways: ua-cam.com/video/oNAFToKOcCI/v-deo.html

      connect hands using gable grip or a similar grip and slam to guard. if he is good, he will land properly (on hand to back) and you will have to stack him to rip the arm out. slamming is hard because he is already low to the ground and pulling you down, so you likely won't be able to lift him up. all you can do is "fall" more (unless you're a serious lifter and have great balance).

    How long did it take you to do the flying armbrad

    • @AntonZwijsen
      @AntonZwijsen  5 років тому +6

      Hard to say how long. Just keep trying until you can. It's best that you first practice a normal Ude-Hishigi-Juji-Gatame starting from a guard position. If you've mastered that, then try the Hikomi-Waza version. Then try the flying version with a partner who keeps standing up and you just hang in it and go back again. If you try it immediately, you'll hurt your back. Only then try a full flying version.

    Is that Brazilian jiu jitsu or just jiu jitsu???

    • @AntonZwijsen
      @AntonZwijsen  6 років тому +8

      Great question. The short answer is "both" and the long one lies in the history of the martial arts.
      Personally I practice Japanese Jiu-Jitsu (as well as several other Japanese martial arts), more specifically the style developed by Den Edel and Boersma (who are in fact Dutch). It is in fact pretty similar to the old Kodokan Jiu-Jitsu.
      But of course this technique is seen in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well as in many other martial arts.
      A specialist in flying armbars is Judo world champion Kashiwazaki Sensei, with whom I've once had the honor of meeting with, and he is a Judoka.
      Judo and BJJ came forth from older Jiu-Jitsu styles of course (that's why the answer is 'both'). It's very likely that other martial arts around the world have developed this technique as well.
      It is al just a matter of classification. I'm actually starting a website where this classification will become clear. More info soon!
