I got one on my Caynon 2.8 diesel its awesome, and a turbo upgrade 😂.
Heres a tip disconnect the battery and take it on a long drive the computer will re adjust for the extra air.
Thanks for the vid!
No problem!
Sounds great
Thanks
Did this to the SR5 4Runner we had before. The top end power definitely increased. That SOUND, I miss that lol but I did a flowmaster flowfx exhaust on the TRD off road this time. I’ll be getting that intake eventually. 😅
Sounds great!
@@TRDJon did the s&b ever throw you a CEL?
That’s awesome
Thanks Ryan
Cai gained me 1mpg over stock on my 23Taco, I’ll take it. I’ve put one on every engine I’ve owned from karts to diesels. Exhaust is next. This is the longest I’ve had a vehicle and didn’t change the exhaust 10k miles. Eyeing the borla s exhaust. 👍✌🏻
Do you have to tune it for the cai
Nope. Tuning isn’t required for CAI.
DUDE! I watched you when I had my 4runner years ago and now Im getting a Taco...low and behold...you got a TACO!!!!
Ohhhhh yea
That sounds a lot louder than I expected but I dig it, a lot. Exhaust still stock? A cat-back might compliment this nicely
It is for a few more days. I'm adding the carven exhaust to it as well
Vids of that are a must 😋
Keep it up brother! 🤙
@@TRDJon did the S&B have any effect on the sound of the carven?
I wonder if you can monitor IAT and MAF on scanner before and after you do CAI to see the difference of the input signals.
You can. I used an Autel to read my live data. But I was not diagnosing that so I didn't pay any attention to those numbers. I am also 100% stock besides my lift kit.
Your trucks computer will learn you’re new CAI and it quiets down quite a bit, plus with an exhaust it will become not noticeable. If you want more performance without a tune get some headers.
Add the Carven exhaust too !!!
Will do this week! I plan on it
better to use stock system and just connect a hose from your cabin AC under dash box to your air engine intakes before the filters of course for a true cold air intake...cheaper too
Would you recommend this cold air intake or the injen version for the Tacoma?
Just installed one of these a couple weeks ago. Def feels quicker and sounds awesome. I didn’t use the 2nd intake like you did on the front. I’m curious if there’s a noticeable difference.
Good to hear!
I had this on my 2019 Taco without the front piece... I thought, less bugs and other crap getting to the filter. I am going to put this on my 2023.
Any update on performance, fuel mpg or getting dirt in your intake tube? Just purchased a 23 Coma and i always buy S&B. Thinking about doing the same but my taco already has a cai from factory. So I'm thinking about just adding a new drop in filter. Really considering not buying. What do you think!
Just get the whole kit. I have one on my Canyon 2.8 Duramax and it's great. I also upgraded the turbo
Very nice Jon the question I have will your truck pass smog certification with this modification ?
I don’t have smog or inspections in FL
@@TRDJon must be nice, I am in Cali 😎
SoCal native. It won't pass visual inspection also you cant run a catch can. @MJones-ed2ir
Great video! I have a question. I want to install a set of hood struts in my tacoma for the ease of opening the hood, but I am worried about the passenger side strut being in the way of my S&B intake I plan to purchase and install. Have you come across this issue or know anyone that has?
I have no idea if they will hit man.
Is it legal in California???
I'm lookin to buy this for my 2nd Gen 🤔🤔
Nice!
Is this a stock ECT or have you done a tune? I’m wondering what my truck will do if I do both
Stock
hey man how would this thing perform compared to the trd cold air intake?
Not trying to butt in but just look at the difference. The TRD is just missing the extra muffler part on the tubing
Thanks for the video. I just saw a video that you took it off and gave it some other UA-camr forgot the name. What was the reason you took it off? Asking because I just purchased one for my 2023 Tacoma v6 4x4.😢wife doesn’t care about the money but she will be pissed if it’s junk.
That was on the 4Runner. I wanted to try the trd intake
@@TRDJon thanks for the reply definitely appreciate it
Will this work if you have added hydraulic hood lifts?
No I had to remove mine I was a bit upset about it because I spent $50 and only had them for a few weeks but I knew if I cut the box it was going to be a disaster.
Did you add the throttle body spacer ?
No
What filter did you purchase? Cotton or Dry?
I did the cleanable one
Cleanable Cotton OK thanks
What’s the difference between those?
Did check engine light on? Mine did and it dies on me every 200-300 miles 😫😫
No it never did. Did you make sure to plug the MAF sensor in properly?
Sounds like vtec
If you remove your exhaust it makes it loud for free🤌🏽
True Story
I have a base 2019 SR5 Tacoma …. I was wondering if this fits ???
If it is a v6 it should
Yes it does it will fit any 3rd gen Tacoma
Is it noticeable quicker ?
Throttle response is significantly better yes.
Curious as to why you have to disconnect the negative battery post. Thanks
You really don’t but anytime you unplug or plug electrical components it’s just safer and it only takes a few seconds to do it. I was a 35 year diesel mechanic for buses in a North Metropolitan area did electrical work on them for 15 years and I would disconnect the negative cable just to be safe or in case I would have to walk away from the job to get parts etc.
@@Mike-cu6gk thank you for the reply Mike. Better to be safer than sorry on those components.
@@AgentJ1984 I just wanted to give you an update they want you to disconnect the negative cable before starting the job and keep it off for 2 hours that will reset everything and you won’t get a check engine light. I did mine yesterday and it took me about 1.5 hours because of neighbors coming over to BS which now I’ll glad it happened because it worked out and I didn’t know about the reset.
@@Mike-cu6gk thanks again for the followup. Good to know the 2hr time parameter
S&B or AFE for a CAI?
Can't go wrong with either. I enjoy them both. AFE has that power scoop though for more air.
No that time has passed, has the computer adjusted itself negating the gains?
He sold this Tacoma long time ago
😂
Could I install this into my second gen taco?
No but they may have one for it
Would you recommend the oiled or dry version of this intake?
Never use a oiled filter.
is this better than the k&n ?
I’ve never used K&N but I’ll say this, I would never run an open air box on any of my vehicles
Does this void the warranty?
probably
no
That sounds nasty . Was gonna go K&N but might be changing my mind.
First!
Thanks Van!!!!!
And let's more dirt in the engine, reducing engine life, but it's yours rock on 🤘
Guess you didn’t listen you the video where I explain that.
We have been running these types of filters on off and on road vehicles for years you are wrong, do some research dipshit
It has a filter that’s the whole point of a filter
ive been thinking about getting a s&b for my 22 4runner sr5 but was wanting to know if you had any check engine light issues or idle problems?
Never
Haha...In the '70's we would flip the air cleaner cover upside down to expose the filter. It made noise and made us feel like it had better throttle response, but it wasn't anything measurable. You prolly think its faster because you're stomping on the long skinny pedal today, when you normally don't. So you wasted your money for views, again.
Cool story man. I guess these new cars are drive by wire too like the old ones you used to drive? Or airflow increase does nothing to a modern NA motor? Sounds good...
Exactly, some got more $$$ than 🧠..but yeah Click bate nothing more!
Waste of $$$$….
Why?
@@jandelahoussaye9834 you already have a cold air intake stock, it will be louder the performance isn’t any better. The only noticeable performance increase will be a supercharger or tune
