My personal weird theory/hope for Payday 3 was to see all the old operators switch to contractor roles and have the younger gang take their spot. Beyond that I could see Dragan becoming The Butcher and filling her role and having Wick come back with Keanu actually in the role would be amazing.
Seeing keanu in payday would be great since I exclusively play wick in PD2 and I wouldn’t mind if the continental also returned as a contractor role with a lot more heists since pd2 is essentially set in wick’s universe,
Seeing Sydney take a mainstay role would honestly be music to my ears, as much as her voice wasn't (at least, after 3 hours of of consistent loud play)

Houston can be the fourth member since Having all the original 4 and Houston in the mix, it seems like a third wheel kind of deal. - I do hope they explain Wolf's departure in Payday 3 if the original gang return.

Having Wolf depart from the main crew get houston finally fit into the 4 main member crew. It also works because of the fact that Wolf and Hoxton had a buddy kind of relationship with "hoxtalious" and the like... It can be replaced by Houston since there is still that dynamic, except on the negative side. Maybe Houston and Hoxton can finally warm up and respect one another as an arc in Payday 3.
I really think that if Houston is going to make a return, he's going to be taking Wolf's roll. Just like how Houston took Hoxton's roll at the start of Payday 2, he could just be the next Wolf until Ulf returns
It would make sense. Houston's role as the "ghost" of the original crew makes him a bit out of place. Making him the technician next game brings back the original 4 positions (crew chief, muscle, technician and sharpshooter), and Houaton's tech background with ECM's and tripwire and such makes it a transferable skill set

100% I want to do contracts for duke and as Kknowlley said they might make small references to the supernatural even if they go a more serious route and if they do Duke could have the gang still supposed supernatural objects as well as normal paintings.
I wouldn’t mind payday 3 being an alternate telling of the story after payday the heist with a darker more serious tone. That way they don’t have to worry about all that convoluted nonsense they created
heavily scarred houston: am i criminal? *takes out cigar* criminals have feelings *lights cigar and smokes it* i lost those a long time ago! *payday 3 title card plays over heavy metal*
Yeah, I really want it to be a world-trotting crime wave with heisters from more varied locations with maybe Duke and Jiro becoming contractors and winding up getting the gang into wars with the yakuza and other groups with less of a Payday 2 secret thing in the background and more of a massive war for supremacy as the greatest gang in the whole world where you regularly come to blows with groups other than the cops, sometimes even teaming up with enemy factions to fight off sting operations and stuff like that.
I really do hope Jacket returns in PD3. He's my main and I'm kinda sad they didn't do that much with him after his release, though that could've been partly due to how you actually unlock him.
@@thedripcritic9379 Then maybe Tony from Hotline Miami 2 could take his playable role, he is actually melee oriented in his game of origin unlike Jacket who's a generalist while wearing the Richard mask. They could give him a unique effect if he uses his bare hands, like head blows doing more damage or being able to knock enemies down & insta-[oof] them (trying to dodge UA-cam's no-no word filter here). It would suck to not keep a Hotline Miami character in a playable role.
@@hsemicolonc I would love that but I don't think Tony of all characters would get in. I'm placing my bets on, if not jacket returning, Richter. He's incredibly crucial to the plot, killing Jackets gf and putting him in a coma, getting Evan to do things, and all that. Not sure about perk deck though.
@@thedripcritic9379 Richter would be a really cool pick, maybe his perk deck could be stealth oriented since his mask's gimmick in HM is starting with a suppressed Uzi. I picked Tony because he's a HM 2 character & the leader of The Fans, which are the only characters in that game which carry on the 50 Blessings aesthetic besides Martin Brown & Jake (Jake would also be a really cool pick for a HM 2 character but he's barely in HM 2 & he's not really all that popular or recognizable). The reason I think it's gonna be a HM 2 character is because of theming since Payday 3 is assumedly a sequel & not an alternate retelling. Son could also be could also a really great pick, they let Wick wear sunglasses as a "mask" so I doubt Son lacking any sort of face covering in HM 2 besides said glasses would prevent him from getting in. I have zero clue what his perk deck would revolve around though since he has three "modes" in HM 2.
I think the only character endings we need to concern ourselves with being Canon are the film of the beach scene. Namely, Dukes, Sangres, Jiro and The Four. As you said, the text ending is basically fan service. But we should assume that Bains transformation is Canon, and thus it makes sense that the beach scene is too.
I'm rooting for bobble head bob To become playable with a perk allowing him to not even need a mask and perfectly blend in and pretend to be a hostage but actually help out the gang
I wouldn’t put lion’s gate to ask him if he wouldn’t mind becoming wick a couple of more times to join in the heisting group, I mainly play wick and the VA for wick in PD2 was pretty good, and I kinda got use to hearing that version of wick, and maybe with wick’s return is the continental weapon packs and continental tailor packs, guns and clothing designed for members of the continental, think a 2 piece suit with the standard detection risk, but armor stat of a higher price of armor but with limited durability (example, 2 piece with some basic body armor, once broken the armor doesn’t get repaired)
The PD2 VA for Wick said he’d return in the Anniversary livestream, so John Wick as a character is most likely coming back in PD3 in some capacity, but it’s still gonna be the PD2 VA and not actual Keanu. Would be really cool if it was though.
My number 1 Hope is Sokol returning, his whole point of originally being a mostly thrill seeker on the side is perfect to bring him back as another heister, especially with him being one of the youngest of the second games crew
For people watching this video now, there have been some interesting things happening since then. In an anniversary stream, Overkill confirmed a) The OG Gang (Dallas, Chains, Hoxton & Wolf) will return b) PD 3 is set some years after PD2 in a newly technologised New York
That's good to know. Apart from the OG gang coming back (and Vlad as a contractor, he's great,) there's not many characters that I want to see return. I mean maybe one here and one there, but I think the game will work best with a new crew and a new story. And the OG gang could be like the mentors passing the torch to us, the new guys.
@@shreknskrubgaming7248 i honestly agree with you. many of the heisters from last game felt like filler, especially ones like joy, sangres, sokol etc. so it will be a pleasant surprise if heisters are kept to a minimum, as to put in as much effort for every heister that will be added onwards so they don't have the same bland voicelines like payday 2 (sniper just ate a bullet, took the medic to the hospital etc)
Y'all talking about the returning heisters, but can we please talk about the returning contractors? Personally I would love more heists from the Continental, Vlad, and Locke I'm pretty sure Locke will return in some way, Ian Russell has good relations with Overkill, and I can see he loves to voice and act as Locke
I remember wanting more heists from the Butcher, but I've heard the news. "We should work together more often" line from Scarface Mansion heist hits different now
@@jockeyfield1954 I get chills at the idea of his "announcement-trailer" being much like his "game-trailer", only it's someone like Dallas or Chains slowly going through the safe house, and reach their answering machine. Message from a heister (possibly even a previously confirmed returning one), then a message from Aldstone, then the third message is just... *"Do you know what time it is?"*
It's fun to come back here now that we're so close to the release of payday 3, cause now we get to speculate on who the extra two characters are going to be.
Man, I really want to see Jimmy return. I know it's unlikely, but he is legitimately my favorite character. Maybe we could someone other than Coke Jimmy, maybe Colonel Jimmy or Hunter Jimmy.
i honestly don't think they will be ditching the supernatural so much can be built and so much can be built onto what overkill has created, but i wouldn't be too mad if they do.
in my opinion, the super nature must not be at launch, passing mentions are ok but full blown supernatural stuff, because if the game has to catch people up on what happened in the first 2 games, then yeah that will push people away fast, I feel like the slow burn approach like the did with PD2 would be best, start out with the standard bank robbery game we know and lover, ramp it up, bigger and better jobs, till it spills over and we can dive right back into super natural shit
I say they ditch the supernatural stuff and lean more heavily into the tie ins. We have Gus Fring’s actor and like 4 separate missions where you can cook meth, just give us a breaking bad reference, give us Jesse as a heister so we can make the “Jesse, we have to cook!” jokes all day long.
@Blitz Man How is coke jimmy the only standalone? In the DLC trailer he appeared just after one of the normal Jimmies killed himself like a planned suicide... but then again it has been a while since I watched the movie so I could be missing something.
You know who would be cool to see as a heister, Bobble Head Bob because he was just kinda there but he even kinda became part of the gang but I think he was the bartender from what I know idk but I wouldn’t mind to see him lol
tbh he should have been in the fan service ending that told us the paths the members went, where even the gang is bobble head bob will cross paths with them, his destiny is to be there for the gang, hell I wouldn’t mind seeing him as the crew’s preplanner since the dentist is out of the picture
Dragan may appear as a proxy for the Butcher, or he may join the crew to go against the Gang that killed her in game character, if they decide to go that way.
Honestly i'm hoping they make her character die in a blaze of glory or something like that, it'd be better than just not mentioning her IMO. Considering she was the one who introduced the scarface dlc it'd be a cool narrative parallel to have her go out the same way scarface did and have the gang avenge her just like they avenged scarface.
@@denizmergen418 yeah, West Nile Virus, it's a hell of a thing. I do hope that her in-game character is mentioned in why she vanished, like killed on a road of glory, better writing than just her not being mentioned.
I prefer dragan becoming the new butcher, she was the one to send him to the payday gang, and they seems close, I think their plan was if she was to pass suddenly, like if a client killed her or suddenly illness dragan would take over as the head and continue trafficking, and once learning of his old gang coming back together, he meets up with gage and starts selling guns together to the PD3 gang
New heist: “Clovers castle” some shithead took over clovers castle while she was away, so now you have to take it back, sort of like Scarface’s mansion :)
I like rust and jacket the most, jacket could and id main him, but id like rust back even if hes just giving us a mission, man I just want the mask back at least
I genuinely think Joy may come back based on the fact of the timeframe in which payday 3 is taking place. Overkill already said that a lot of the heists are going to be more modern based and joy herself is a very modern character, it would make sense for her to be more important in payday 3.
I have a theory or idea where Richard/50 Blessings joins the game as a contractor Richard speaks like Jacket, but him being supernatural and all he speaks through the tape recorder clearly and freely, no cuts, rewinds or replacement words due to limited speech, as if the tape recorder is his actual voice. He gives more violent jobs involving taking down other rival criminal organizations.
I really want Jacket to return I've never played his original game but he is one of my favourite characters in Payday 2 so I would love to see him back
If Bobblehead Bob doesn’t return in some capacity I’ll cry. I’d love to see him as a coverup for the Payday Gangs safe house, his bobblehead company took off and a store of it serves as the new safe house
One thing I would love to see in payday 3 but don't think is likely: having Dallas be the first contractor and having his yacht be the location of the stealth tutorial heist
I definitely do feel that some of the ex-heisters will return to the game as contractors, especially the older heisters that were beloved by the community.. Dragan has a very high chance imo, and Jiro, if he returns at all, may be someone who returns as a contractor and act as a connection to any Yakuza, with or against. There's also always the chance that some other, younger, heisters come in as contractors too, though probably less likely.
After seeing the original four heisters retire in the ending, I assumed they'd be succeeded by the young guns that were recruited over Payday 2. Houston seems prime to repeat Dallas's life choices, Clover was explicitly Hoxton's protege, and Sokol seemed like he had a tech know-how that mirrors Wolf.
Honestly, I'm excited for the "blank slate" with only the most beloved and canonicaly sensible characters tor return from payday 2. It provides a blank slate to introduce a whole new plethora of distinct and loveable characters
I know this is a 2 year old video, but I would love to see Sokol return, his backstory and lore being expanded upon in 3 is necessary, he is the youngest heister, still, he'd be in 30's now. He is an athletic freak of nature and generally too smart for his own good ... if Payday 3 decides to go the weird direction payday 2 went, Sokol should become the first of the "new" payday crew, if that makes sense.
My immediate thought is that it'll be a mostly new cast, in a similar vein to hotline miami 2's "The Fans". I imagine some characters will come back, but that's the idea I think that they'll go with.
@@hunterdramora @Hunter Arthur If you can't defeat them because you don't know the difference between bulletproof and blastpoof, might be worth joining them instead.
Jacket has a higher chance than you think, because the Payday universe has... a bit of an odd relationship with time and history. The explanation I've heard, which makes the most sense to me, is that Payday 2 Jacket and Hotline Miami Jacket are alternate universe versions of the same person. If Hotline Miami Jacket had been born 10-20 years later, in a world where there was no Russian invasion of Hawaii and no nukes set off in California, he'd still have the same sociopathic tendencies, a similar hatred for Russian mobsters, a military background, and a love for the 80s aesthetics that give him his iconic looks. As for the chicken mask, call it a bit of universe cross-contamination. Whether or not 50 Blessings exists in Payday 2 is up in the air. What I'm most curious about is whether or not whatever shadowy organization The Dentist was heading will rear its ugly head. And whether or not we'll see more goats.
I really like the idea of the PD2 heisters coming back as contractors while a new set of characters come in and wear the original crew's masks. If the secret ending's rumors turn out to be canon, I can see Hoxton giving us jobs that involve us robbing casinos that are acting as competitors to his Golden Grin. Maybe even have a classic heist that is just like PD2's Golden Grin heist. I can see Chains taking Gage's role as the weapons dealer. Dallas alongside Locke can take over Bain's role. I don't think Wolf will come back at Payday 3's launch, however I can see Overkill bringing him (or someone similar to him) back when they do yet another 'Wolfpack' DLC like they did in both PDTH and PD2. Since Jacket started his own gang back in Miami, I can see him giving us a new heister based off of a different character from the Hotline Miami games (maybe someone from 'The Fans'?) as well as a couple jobs that involve lots of killing. Since Sangres is now the boss of the Yakuza, I bet he'll have some jobs for us that either involves us helping his gang (such as moving contraband while dealing with rival gangs) or just straight up have heists in Japan. As much as I love Sydney, I really doubt she'll be making a comeback. If we are to consider the Hardcore Henry movie happening after PD2 but before PD3, then Jimmy is definitely not coming back. As for John Wick, unless they make another cross promo event when John Wick 4 comes out, I'll doubt he'll come back since he'll still be on the run. As for everyone else, I don't have anything to say about them.
what about houston? the rumors say that he opened a bar and did deals with government officials and criminals, he's bound to be a contractor if his rumor is canon, besides, he takes a very good leader role within the payday gang, he may even make his own plans and have backdoors available for each of his contracts in case anything goes wrong. besides, if we get him as a contractor, we get to hear houston say "oh, and remember: donacdum"
I hope they have Hoxton, Dallas, Chains, Houston as playable characters, and a few new ones in the beginning. Then whichever one isn't in the party (the original 4) they get to be the one relaying information. Then if there are 2 then the other 2 gives the information. Also have radio chatter about stuff they've done in the past with one another.
I doubt Ulf will come back, but if they can find someone who can scream as good as him then I'm good. Seriously, Wolf's awkward and (almost) paranoiac voice/lines are the reason he's so loved.
I hope they do something similar to borderlands 1 -> 2, where the old crew are relevant characters in the plot and story, but you play as an entirely new crew, maybe the old crew are NPCs to play alongside you, in the background so the getaway vehicles or as mission unlocks/assists. Edit, just remembered how hopeless bots were (Lilith) in the Bunker/Angel in BL2, hope they do not put characters you admire walking about uselessly while you do all the work.
Ye, it'd be cool to see contractors interacting with the instructors like Locke again. Would also like to see multiple instructors too if possible, but maybe that's too much? One is okay too
id say this is the wrong way of thinking the actual questions are: can it be sold? and can it cause hype? imo it will end up like this: sydney, jacket, joy, duke, hoxton, clover and john bad movie are 100% due to the sell value bain, dallas and vlad are 100% just for the hype value
Another thing about jacket its that the twitter acount of payday twetted a question about how well they made jacket and how many persons played as him, so i have the theory that they asked that to know if its going to be a good idea to ad him to payday 3
I hope if Jacket is added they also add different tapes for different voices... mostly because I want the Microsoft Sam mod to be official, and would fall in line when he threw his tape player into Bain's grave.
The way I was figuring it, I thought Locke and Duke might be the ones to send the crew on missions and give intel, with both of them basically taking over Bain's role and giving different types of missions, with Duke maybe being less story oriented jobs and more challenge style jobs, high security, get in get out, and stealth centric
I hope they go with more grounded story line in Payday 3. Classic heists from Payday: The Heist are my favourite, because how unique they are and realistic.
It would be cool to see Captain Winters return either as a heister or a contractor. Overkill introduced this character but hasn't done much with him story-wise, and has always kept him in the background. It would make sense in the story that after being duped by the Kataru, he would want revenge and join up with the Kataru's biggest enemies. It would be interesting to see him working with the gang he tried so hard to take down. And if we can't have him back as a heister, then having him back as a mini-boss would work too.
One of my favorite ideas for if we were to get a new cast with the old masks if Dallas were to have a son that he left to the mother to raise. And after learning about his father's leadership of the payday gang he attempts to make the paycheck gang (we all like the idea of the paycheck gang)
If we get another hotline Miami character, I would want Tony yeah, I know what happened to him but what if he survived the attack and went on to join Jacket and the payday crew
What about biker. Yes he was a old drunk and prolly died in the second game (Miami was nuked. I'm not joking) but if he is still alive. That could give him a chance to join
Think about this, Gage is able to walk now, He is still young enough to run, jump and crouch. Maybe he could return as a playable character.... Just saying.

Not gonna lie if they add an open world mode to PD3 I'd be stoked. Probably not but would be cool.

He does have a professional gang of top quality thugs. Maybe he's a contractor or the players could play a character affiliated to him.
@@gabrielho1874 He could sell jobs against Russian gangs or something, allowing a possible excuse for Nightclub returning
They even tried to get Clover more involved with the Gang with her almost inclusion in the live action car heist trailer.
clover is probably the only character not of the main 5 (dallas, houston, hoxton, wolf, chains) who i really wish will come back in payday 3

Duuuuude if Keanu voiced Wick in Payday 3, that would be insane!
Personally I really like the idea of the Sangres, Clover, Sydney and Sokol crew seen in the newer content being a separate gang you could play as
Yes
My number 1 Hope is Sokol returning, his whole point of originally being a mostly thrill seeker on the side is perfect to bring him back as another heister, especially with him being one of the youngest of the second games crew
For people watching this video now, there have been some interesting things happening since then. In an anniversary stream, Overkill confirmed
a) The OG Gang (Dallas, Chains, Hoxton & Wolf) will return
b) PD 3 is set some years after PD2 in a newly technologised New York

And now we have all 4 og characters coming back. I say Houston and likely Joy come back. Perhaps Sokol returns.
It would be interesting if there were more contractors you could play, like Jimmy
I am hoping too, but jimmy died in Hardcore Herny
The jimmy we know
@Blitz Man like the jimmy we know the coked out one and the other Jimmy's died
@Blitz Man But even if there was a non-hive-mind Jimmy out there, how do we know they’d turn to crime? Each Jimmy clone has a different personality.
@Blitz Man How is coke jimmy the only standalone? In the DLC trailer he appeared just after one of the normal Jimmies killed himself like a planned suicide... but then again it has been a while since I watched the movie so I could be missing something.

tbh he should have been in the fan service ending that told us the paths the members went, where even the gang is bobble head bob will cross paths with them, his destiny is to be there for the gang, hell I wouldn’t mind seeing him as the crew’s preplanner since the dentist is out of the picture
I'd hope so much that Jacket makes a return, even though chances are low. Would love to hear his quotes with the new device he has.
Im a little saddened theres no way bodhi is coming back
I wouldn't say "no way", since his voice actor is Hoxton's face actor, it's moreso due to him being a Point Break crossover.
This aged like milk, all 4 originals are confirmed to be returning

And now we have Payday 3 and Joys back here. I honestly think the devs are gonna try and bring back everyone if they can.

I have a theory or idea where Richard/50 Blessings joins the game as a contractor
Richard speaks like Jacket, but him being supernatural and all he speaks through the tape recorder clearly and freely, no cuts, rewinds or replacement words due to limited speech, as if the tape recorder is his actual voice.
He gives more violent jobs involving taking down other rival criminal organizations.
I really want Jacket to return
I've never played his original game but he is one of my favourite characters in Payday 2 so I would love to see him back

If Bobblehead Bob doesn’t return in some capacity I’ll cry.
I’d love to see him as a coverup for the Payday Gangs safe house, his bobblehead company took off and a store of it serves as the new safe house
Would be interest to see this Bobblehead Bob idea play out. ):
One thing I would love to see in payday 3 but don't think is likely: having Dallas be the first contractor and having his yacht be the location of the stealth tutorial heist
Nice. More payday content. Good stuff.
That would give Sangalez a chance to return as the muscle

I know this is a 2 year old video, but I would love to see Sokol return, his backstory and lore being expanded upon in 3 is necessary, he is the youngest heister, still, he'd be in 30's now.
I really want Tony from HM2 as heister for PD3
I hope they have Hoxton, Dallas, Chains, Houston as playable characters, and a few new ones in the beginning. Then whichever one isn't in the party (the original 4) they get to be the one relaying information. Then if there are 2 then the other 2 gives the information. Also have radio chatter about stuff they've done in the past with one another.

Personally for me, I wouldn’t mind a grounded story line, but they set up so much with the supernatural that they must bring it up eventually
I think Sangres has a good chance of returning as a contractor because of how he is a yakuza leader in Japan and still in the crime business
One of my favorite ideas for if we were to get a new cast with the old masks if Dallas were to have a son that he left to the mother to raise. And after learning about his father's leadership of the payday gang he attempts to make the paycheck gang (we all like the idea of the paycheck gang)
