By popular demand, all thirteen of the original Story of Payday episodes rolled into one. The early episodes have been remastered to fit more so into the style I settled for on in the later ones. Nothing has been gutted, simply touched up, with new episode transitions being recorded to create a more natural storytelling style. @@DragonFang253D If there's no universe where these two make sense in a game like Payday 2, then you're going to have to explain how Jimmy, Jacket and Scarface (WHO DIED), even Wolf, a video game developer who went schizo and picked up a gun to pursue a life of crime which he was just randomly, remarkably good at, first. This game is the most unserious thing ever made lol, part of the fun of it. I am glad that Payday 3 is returning to the serious edge of PD:TH though.

I find it funny that Bain specifically has to mention to Jacket *not* to horde the audio tape, as if to imply that Jacket's audio tapes are actually apart of a bigger horde. A dragon hordes gold, while Jacket hordes audio tapes.

That's not wrong, everything past and including Alaskan Deal was done by one writer who had to scramble around and tie up the lore together. Everything before that - basically dart throwing.

Part of me hopes payday 3 will have these same supernatural, conspiracy cover up themes as payday 2 had later in the story. The events after Alaskan Deal felt like something out of an Indians Jones movie. Not that I’m complaining about that.

I love that the failed loot box system was included in the storyline. Given a reason for it to exist, a reason for it to fail, and a reason for why the system is the way it is now.

@@gamingjolt9621 During CrimeFest there was a new microtransaction put into the game where you could buy safes (loot boxes) for special weapon skins and blueprints, some of which gave stat boost. The community felt betrayed by the devs who said that microtransactions would never be a thing in payday 2. As a result, the lootboxes were taken out and you can now earn the weapons by just completing heists and getting really lucky or trading in the community. Kknowley put it into the lore when he mentioned Vlad's weapons that he started giving out for free around 1:34:50.
My favorite detail that I learned on rewatch is he’s directly referencing Valve seeing as the “deal in fancy weapons” and are the largest criminal organization based in Seattle”

No matter how tailored your pc will be to payday 2, some maps will still run at 15 fps. Payday is just built different.

He is so fucking comfortable playing the villain, he absolutely loves it and he's just.... Terrifying if you really let him showcase the ability to play the villain.
I almost want to see Esposito play the usual villain that he does so well, but is actually a good guy.

The story went from Ocean's 11 series of heists to Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid series' level of batshit crazy.
I have a couple theories.
1. Vlad is the scribe king, and his watcher is his brother in law, which is why he keeps calling the payday gang in to get him out of trouble.
2. With the dentist dead, Bain's reincarnation is him ascending to the now empty throne of the healer king, which he immediately begins work healing society.
I wonder who Bain's Watcher will be. Duke seems to be the best for the job but he might want nothing more than needed with this whole Watcher and King business.
@@Dragonspirit223 I'd think maybe Locke? Locke would easily be able to take over Crime net, he'd just need to be able lead the gang at that point. He has the abilities to help secure crime net, he has the knowledge and ability to get things done, he could have contacts left and could probably gain more. He'd take his place pretty much, and probably be smarter about keeping his location and such safe.
With regard to Harujdin being Vlad’s watcher I doubt, as in such a case Harujdin would be a lot more calculated and careful, and some of Vlad’s voice lines in Stealing Xmas hint towards a request at “accidentally” pushing Harujdin off the tree. I think he is more of a comic relief character than anything else.

Hardcore (named Hardcore Henry in some countries) was such a wild movie, I recommend watching it if you like unique and well made action movies (it's filmed 100% in first person), i'm still amazed that according to payday2 lore it's set in the same world as John Wick, Reservoir Dogs, Left 4 Dead and Hotline Miami. Jimmy was such a fun character in that movie and is my favourite crossover Heister.
Don't forget Point Break and Scarface.

One of the things I like about Jacket in this game is that despite being a guest character he is still a very active character in PayDay 2 like being on lots of promo art and how despite being part of his own game he has become part of 2 game communities (the first time I ever heard of Hotline Miami and Jacket is because of Payday) instead of being important for a little bit and just being forgotten. It really feels like he was integrated into the story instead of forcefully being jammed in there by the devs.

They introduced TELEKINESIS, and about 3.2 seconds after that introduced a FUCKING CLONE ARMY. TO GET RID OF THE ONE GUY USING TELEKINESIS.
And my favorite part of that? It is all detached, from the actual story surrounding the dentist, and his quest for immortality.

Truly the greatest heist the Payday gang ever pulled off, no money they ever achieved could buy off the mind heist of the president himself. It takes about a session or 2 per level. The last game mission they did was the basic gold bank heist.
They managed to stealth it... just! Much to the bored of the barbarian.
I'm adding some custom generic dungeon crawling as well to mix it up a little, kinda of content to create and expand a safe house.
Find dwavern forge etc to craft new and better gear.
Instead of just buying it from bane.
Last week they found some plans in one of the bank deposit boxes to the where abouts of an ancient wizards tower which they are currently working their way through, with the goal to find "blue prints" for some new gear

Your explanation to why the special guns didn't catch on in the universe was 10/10, I love that idea as the reason those micro transactions didn't catch on.
It’s basically the Payday equivalent to what happened in real life, too. Lots of people dropped the game and vocally denounced Overkill until they finally made the skins fully available to free players.

You should do a challenge where you play payday 2 according to the lore, difficulty ramps up according to the story, starting normal with the basics, up to death sentence when Zeal team is introduced, play as the characters according to each heist group, ai filling the slots of the other characters in each heist, with corresponding guns and perk set, do each canon heist in order, would be a fun watch

the story of this game reminds me of COD Zombies. starts off with a fairly understandable basis of bank robbing, but suddenly descends into magic, and the illuminati
if you were there back before the white house when we were decrypting the coffers dude, it was like being at the launch of origins back in the day with people figuring stuff out. really missed out if you werent there.

I just watched a 4 hour video for the story of a game I never played, and didn't even think had a story.

Ive played for 400+ hours and to be honest I didnt either
90% of the community didn't care about the story cuz all we needed was queueing up Razormind and the memes , but the story is so damn hyperbolic as the game progressed and somehow its acceptable despite how damn out of control it got and honestly , I dig it. I love it when games have wacky ass lore and somehow succeed in making it consistent with each time the story progresses
I think my favorite part of all this is that the Dentist's failure is his own damn fault.
If he hadn't engineered Hoxton's arrest, the gang wouldn't have pissed off so many powerful people, wouldn't have had to expand, and thus wouldn't have recruited the only man on the planet who could help them break the cycle.

@@gingerinajacket8519 I agree Bain's death is also his own fault, but I think there's a bigger cause than that: He never trusted his only real allies with the whole story, and thus when his demons came home to roost, he was left to fend for himself.
If he had told the gang the whole truth from the beginning, they probably would've made sure he was a bit more protected, or at the very least been way more careful during heists.

Keeping people at arm's length is a feature, not a bug of a life of disrepute, and while HE may be seeking a nobler goal, I can think of at least 3 people on the team that the only read you can get on them is "crazed gunman".

The level of loyalty they have for him is not the kind you get keeping someone at arms length. You don't send four guys to fix a mess started by god-like aliens if you're keeping them at arms length.
Bain trusted them, he just wasn't as much of a leader as he should've been.

For the new people in the back, I'm talking about when those safes you open that have weapon skins in them. Those used to need a Drill to open. You pay for that specific drill like it was a key in CS:GO or TF2. This was a big deal because the devs had outright promised that the game would never have microtransactions, but Starbreeze, the publishers, pretty much forced it in.

One of my favorite tricks when going infamous is to run a DS Four Stores and hope for a ATM. If there isn’t one, restart until there is, or just hide in the store and let your AI handle the cops. I usually get at least 30 right of the bat.

I came back to this vid a year later and I’m still daunted by how a game about clown faced expert heisters, a man in a chicken mask, a clone and the H3 Couple ended up fighting biblical giants and a dental major. What an odd but beautiful game
something worth noting is Mercy Hospital is also the first crossover map in Payday as it is the same hopistal you fight thou in Left 4 Dead 1's No Mercy campgain (the layout is even the same as the hopistal part of the campgain) but what's funny and notable about that the mission implies the Payday gang stop the virus and prevent the Zombie outbreak.

My headcanon for the masks being what they are is that they shape themselves to be a symbol of the current protectors. When one dies and another takes it's place, the symbol changes

OvenCake well, considering reincarnation and immortality are canon (True Ending, The Dentist.) it’s not too much of a stretch to consider the masks themselves change based on the current design through some magic sorcery.
The fact that this is 4+ hours and not a single part of it is padding and all flows in a incredibly well is freaking amazing. I loooove the payday lore but ive never been able to completely follow this so truly thank you! ive even played on some of the last maps and ive never notised the giant smoke monsters in the background so seeing them really just made me go "OH SHIT!"

I know I’m super late to this party but about the kings.
I had a theory that the 3 kings of the Kataru were actually originally the 3 Tamil kings who ruled by conquest over much of India. My thought was that maybe in this timeline, the nephalim (or however you spell that,) originally came into contact with the Tamil kings, providing them with life extending technology and so on. This idea sort of made sense to me what with all the references to history and mythology from many cultures. Plus it would explain how they’ve been around so long.

Payday 2... what an absolute treasure of a game. Uniting the franchises of John Wick, Hotline Miami, Point Break, Hardcore Henry, and Scarface all at the same time without making any characters feel shoe horned or hamfisted. It just astounds me how they were able to cross-promote with so many franchises. Plus the inclusion of Ron Perlman just for fun. It makes my heart vibrate with joy. Also, since Payday as a whole was based on the movie "Heat" which happened to star Al Pacino (with the Scarface VA being personally hand picked by the man himself)... god damn. This franchise is such a love letter to the spirit of 80's, 90's, and 00's action flicks. It makes me wish I was born a decade earlier. I desperately hope all of these characters return in Payday 3 just because they fit so well into the meta of "unhinged badasses decide to do crime together" I fucking love it

My personal theory is that the masks in the chest are actually meant to be the ones you get when you complete the secret (the ancient ones, not the "Secret Dallas/Chains/Wolf/Hoxton" masks), but for some reason, Overkill just put in weathered versions of the default masks in there, probably since the secret ending masks were likely made well after Henry's Rock was released.

I find it really interesting how the first White House vault riddle seems to be referring directly to Wolf, as he was a regular civilian (humble man) who was tempted by the life of crime (wicked path) after his company collapsed. I'm guessing the sword would be either the payday gang or just his explosives and stuff. I tried looking for connections to the other heisters but I can't really make out anything. I looked up a guide and apparently there are 13 riddles and a quick Google search shows there are 22 total heisters in the game.
I love that John Wick universe AND Hardcore Henry universe are all intertwined. I truly believe these guys have a massive healing factor through cult or science made and albeit not on purpose.
It is confirmed cyborgs and more so it would explain the times they can tske multiple bullets without dying.
Imagine how nutty it would be if the payday crew was in the next John Wick movie. I would deadass scream.

I like the idea that the secret ending is the canon ending of Payday 2 but that Payday 3 takes place in a universe where they failed and thus have to rebuild from scratch. Starting off as small time heisters again as they've lost their power and influence in a world controlled by their enemies.
