Bad lore is not uncommon. Many games have lore that is downright awful. But I can not think of a game that started off so good and then completely lost it's way to the tune of a triple A budget. When it comes to lore, @Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege is a very strange case. It's wonky, ineffective, and fails to reach it's audience. But before it's sharp decline, it had a promising beginning. In fact many still look back on it's old direction quite fondly. So what went wrong? This is how Siege's decision to abandon it's roots in favor of appealing to a non existent crowd caused it to write the most pathetic and forgettable lore in modern gaming. I'd be interested to know of a modern game that spent so much money on such a universally ignored universe. #rainbowsixsiege - Ігри
I always find it funny to imagine all the fans paid for tickets to watch a building, because there’s no indication they can see what’s going on inside the stadium building
This is hilarious
Best case scenario, you watch the game via the cameras inside the building. So you physically went to a stadium to watch the game on a screen.

Probably my biggest gripe, besides the tourney revealing the identities of Rainbow Operatives, was Operation Chimera. Doc was somehow allowed to make a decision over his head, that nearly resulted in the whole world getting infected and turned, just because he disapproved of a nuclear device being used to stop it.
Some of the operatives are humanitarians, when they shouldn't be, and it's stupid.
Rainbow Six Siege is a game where most of the time I thought smoke's gas was the same as the white masks.
Fr. I figured they had an insider telling the white masks what rainbows next move was.
It would have made sense since in the Rainbow six book, the operators could never find leads on the people they were trying to track down until some guy working as a third party whistleblew on their operations.
I believe it was theorized that smoke is a rainbow operator but infiltrated the white masks. Was never confirmed or denied because they literally did nothing with the white masks since launch

I always loved the idea of an full length siege campaign were you would fight the white masks and could play with your friends, but sadly we probably won't get that and if so it would most likely be it's own spin off game to get more money out of the franchise
Okay it's absolutely delusional to praise the old singleplayer content this game had. The AI was braindead and the atmosphere wears off after an hour or two of gameplay. It was one of the least engaging PVE modes I've ever played and it doesn't even teach you how to deal with multiplayer operators, which is a huge missed opportunity. They absolutely didn't communicate or work together to take you down, they either stood still or beelined for your location, magically knowing where you were at all times.
There were a handful of 'neat' things like the suicide bomber guy and the nitro cell nests, but that's it. There was no dialogue, team, story or anything. The university map that was gassed was a really cool place- and then they add in the same dumb, repetitive boring enemies.
Absolutely missed the mark, and that's probably because they decided to shoehorn some offline content in for people without stable internet or willingness to play PVP at the last minute.
I was gonna say this is some INSANE revisionist history. No way anyone actually played the OG terrorist hunt and thought it was “competitive, scary and immersive”. No one ever played those besides for getting renown and the sake of the achievement lmao. Almost every single level had terrorists that would never even realize you enter the building or even try to shoot you
Even though I loved T Hunt mode, I gotta agree. This is really remembering things wrong.
i cant believe the "Rainbow 6 start a paintbull club" was canon, i thought it was some noncanon for fun event just for the esports or something 😭😭😭
I remember seeing the map description for the stadium and just thought "Oh, they use it for training, that's funny." Little did I know that was a major canon event for the entire game.
I feel like this was the biggest issue for r6, making stadium canon. If they needed a canon stadium, they couldve just made it an abandoned but polished stadium with no one there. It would also coincide well with the original lore for multiplayer being operators practicing against each other. And i feel like they shoulda just made a separate game for the pve and the story itself
I thought the White Mask group were the main threat, but the Multiplayer aspect was a War Games practice across various locations.
@@smoketinytom at first i thought the multiplayer aspect were actual terrorist situations

I don't understand why AAA games are so allergic to realistic / "mil-sim" type stories. The same thing happened with the MW reboot, they'll pretend to be serious for about a few months until they start adding in zombies, dabbing emotes and Snoop Dogg skins. It's not even that "realistic" games aren't popular, games like Arma and Tarkov are huge. I'm just so burnt out with how unserious most stories are in games now, it's sucks all the immersion out.
grit and seriousness diverts from the norm and that scares companies. also the masses who still watch twitch streamers for some reason and gravitate to valorant/overwatch (the big leagues of subsidised art direction in favor of e-sports) magnetise towards cartoon graphics and atmospheres with hyper-developed character personalities, who in turn generates fanbases whose only logical conclusion is fanart and porn. and cosplay too maybe, but that's probably still just porn. the answer is porn and money.
for obvious reasons, because they don’t make as much profit doing so. Microtransactions make fuck tons of money in live service games, and you can’t sell generic mil sim cosmetics, because the consumers don’t care for that. They care for flashy, over the top, colourful etc, that shit doesn’t blend with mil sim. That’s why Snoop Dogg is in CoD, it makes money.

I love seeing small channels explode ( not literally )
Truly hard work pays off
I don't really buy that the stadium plot was to make the story more escalable. What I think happened was that they realized making a game about anti-terrorists is inherently political, and they needed to tip toe around a lot of stuff to avoid offending anyone. They want to keep the game as apolitical as possible to attract more players. Think about the backlash they could have gotten if they had released any of the Russian ops now with the Ukraine war going on. Or what if suddenly one of the units featured in the game gets involved in a controversial situation like violations of human rights? Then an ignorant news station could run a segment about the game that let's you play as them. That's why they stopped featuring real anti terrorist units in the Operator's background.
Deimos is an attempt to go back to the anti-terrorist roots, while keeping the conflict mostly internal. He doesn't really follow any political agenda, his whole motivation is focused on Rainbow itself.
I try to explain this all the time, this is a perfect way to describe this.

I played on and off until the australians came out, tiny dude and lady with the weird hexagon spike traps. Game was reaching league of legends levels of character bloat, but without 1. the uniqueness and 2. being the right genre for it. I need to say that, in regards to the stadium, having all the operators live together in one location has got to be the worst security risks I’ve ever heard of
The biggest security risk is the active broadcasting of their locations.
I mean in the original book they had two teams of operators living in military baracks at herford airbase so this isn't too far off from the original. After all they had to be ready to fly out whenever a major terrorist threat was going on somewhere in the world so they can't just be flown in from who knows where before boarding the plane together.
@tipiet560 It couldn't be further from that? A barracks wouldn't have live spectators and a broadcast of what's going on. Plus, I'd assume it's much harder to find a military base housing these individuals than a literal studio people visit to watch.
@@theldapperapple2382 I didn't say anything about live spectators or a broadcast lul? I just told about the original book and that the operators are all stationed in baracks at hereford base. There are obviously no spectators or broadcasts because THEY ARE FUCKING CTU OPERATORS.
@@tipiet560 Whilst true, at least they wherent living together in a very public area where any terrorist could attack
Dude the article 5 cutscenes and original operator videos were so badass. After your operator walks out of the decontamination tent, grabs his gun and rejoins his teammates as the music swelled.
"Fookin Lazer sights.."
Remember when Rainbow 6's lore was about stopping a terrorist group from chemical bombing universities?
Yeah... now its whatever this is.
The whole tournament thing can work if instead of being a public event it's a private event which is used to recruit new operators and test their skills, you can have drama between the old and new operators and if still want audience you can have military guys cheering their buddies
So Deimos just wants the counter terrorism unit... to do their job and kill terrorists? But instead of like acting as an advisor to Rainbow like Zero, he just hunts them down and kills them to I guess prove a point that they're all pussies now?? It's funny how they wrote a villain who's main point is correct but his actions make no sense in relation to it. Deimos was a major missed opportunity to really dig into the morality behind a covert counter terrorism unit with no government oversight.
If I could rewrite him, I'd make Deimos believe its dangerous to have CTUs exist unchecked, and decides he only trusts himself to run a Rainbow esque unit. So his goal is to essentially cannabalize every non-government CTU and for-hire groups like Nighthaven until hes the only one running what would basically be his version of Rainbow. So he'd first try to recruit anyone from other CTUs including Rainbow and Nighthaven, and those that said no or disagreed with his vision had to be eliminated.
Additionally, and this part is slightly in the current lore but I would focus on it more, he actually wants covert ops to be, you know, covert. So the whole airsoft olympics thing very much pisses him off. Ok in a perfect world the stadium just would be scrapped entirely bc its obviously stupid as shit but it was already there before Deimos so I gotta work it in. He wants his CTU to be impossible to track for tactical efficiency, especially considering he's going to war with other CTUs, hence why he kills anyone that knows about him and doesn't join the cause.
To tie his motivations together and make his beef with Rainbow personal, his backstory could be an op that went wrong and his whole team was killed. They were like family to him, and they died because whoever was running Rainbow at the time (I like the idea the leader is just called Six) didn't listen to his input on the op. Something like maybe he wanted to keep the op quiet but Six communicated with a local government for information, that info got out and led to an ambush. Then he has specific motivation to run Rainbow the "right way", seeing Rainbow as his white whale and ultimate goal of his crusade. While he initially reaches out to some ops about joining, maybe swaying some Nighthaven ops, his undisclosed goal is to kill Harry. Maybe he frames Nighthaven for Harry's death, causing a civil war between the two teams so he has less ops to contend with, leaving only the best ops alive and very open to join a well run CTU after their's was destroyed. He'd be the only one left for them to work for.
You need to be hired
Bro I would love this game again if this was the actual lore
Only thing I really disagree is your proposal for his background motivations, mainly because the Six at the time would've been either John Clark or Domingo "Ding" Chavez - who were HIGHLY competent at their jobs and both ran Rainbow like clockwork until a bad apple in Vegas nearly compromised the team's existence.
I would maybe work Vegas into the story - with Gerald's team or family killed due to the data leaks, or have his team killed due to higher international bureaucracy (maybe some high level bureaucrats secretly compromised their operation as part of some deal, or were trying to force them to let some terrorist go).
I would even add some consequence to Harry setting up the fucking stadium and essentially publicizing Rainbow's existence so there's actually some credence and threat to his desire to turn operators against eachother/to his side and more clear reasoning to Deimos killing him (I can imagine a lot of family-oriented operators supporting Harry's death if his actions led to terrorists targeting them or their loved ones).
Maybe even imply that he had some backing from various government and military leaders because *publicizing your covert international CTU is VERY bad and you become a loose end*. So now Rainbow is contending not only with the threat Deimos poses, but debating if he operated within their mandate.
And all this, while being much more compelling than the current lore, would also be a lot more Tom Clancy.
Its more spectacular when hes killing people plus it lets you interpret him as either the bad or good guy, not saying that this is the better way to write him but im assuming ubi's intentions
@@CheekyLad_ True but atm his motivations are pretty weak and it's even weaker considering he's currently training with them when his whole reason for hating current Rainbow is they became a circus performance publicizing their training exercises instead of being the professional, stone-cold troops of his day.
They really should have stated that Deimos is just a gameplay aspect and him playing along with their "training" is mostly non cannon. Heck they could have just hired a double for him and basically say "Hey, we think this is how this guy will operate. Play with/against him just so you guys can dip your toes on be ready when you fight him for real" Instead of basically saying "Yeah, this is the real guy. Why is he participating on the activities he hates so much? I dunno- I mean... It's some super secret reason, yeah. He's totally a 5head gigabrain and it is all part of his plan."
That’s such a smarter idea
It's not like I want to participate in your stupid airsoft olympics B-baka!
At this point who cares about this games lore or about the game itself.Fk it.Theres literally skins of rick and morty, master chief and other goofy anime like women operators and people still cares about lore.Jeez.

Nope thats a lie. The developers definitely expressed that this is the real Deimos@@mc85it26
as a long playing siege player and certified diamond gamer, the lore is such a hit and miss. Sometimes its insane, sometimes it makes no sense and is confusing as shit. Like, the CGI's that get released once a year, those are incredible, and literally have so much potential for a proper story, and an insane TV/streaming series.
I dont think its the worst lore in modern gaming, but it definitely took a weird turn that can still be rectified in later instalments.
though one thing i'll add is that the multiplayer is completely separated from the lore, as evidently shown with Zofia's withstand passive being removed (because she is a mum) and much later being implemented in Rook's armor. Zof/Ela's concussion sponging passive was removed too as well as a few others, like Echo being invulnerable to Dokkaebi.
I think it was confirmed that the multiplayer is just entirely simulation. Anything lore wise that was in game is/was non canon or very, very brief.
Deimos being added to the playable characters only really makes sense in the idea that the multiplayer aspect is entirely simulated.
It's so weird how I can have this immense connection to a multiplayer competitive FPS like siege, that has no sort of in depth and captivating story/campaign. I loved the old R6 titles, I played Vegas and Vegas 2 for hours and hours, both campaign and multiplayer. I genuinely would love to see Siege expanded on into a proper story mode game in the future with the current operators, hell, even diving into Harry's era of Rainbow and the downfall, and continuing on from there. It has so much potential and it would be a shame to see it go to waste.
Ubisoft already had the perfect building blocks with the white masks and still butchered the story to move on to public airsoft olympics.
One of my questions back when I did situations and T-hunt was "How do they have Thermites explosives? Isn't it supposed to be unique?"
And Ubi could have added this in the story by making the White masks a constant threat even if their numbers fell.
One thing I feel should have been made were RAID operations. Potential large map (similar to outbreak size where both defender and attack ops are suited to objectives) with a larger team against White masks, and possible bosses posed by high ranking White Mask operatives. This could work as bombers were already tanky, eating headshots at times, so you make these targets tankier or have a tricky mechanic. And one of these targets could be an engineer that is replicating Rainbow gadgets (Thermite) for the White Masks.8
Great ideas. Unfortunately Ubisoft is allergic to those
Baffled by the arena thing entirely. Dude saw 1 anime with a tournament arc pop off and was like yeah I'll do that
“It worked for Hunter X Hunter it can work for us as well!”
- The Writers, probably
I was under the assumption for a while that it only existed to bring hype for the esports invitational, but didn't have any correlation to the lore itself like Extraction
Which, I mean, tragically Extraction has a pretty good story (that I remember) but was abandoned by Ubisoft (as far as I'm aware)
So go figure ig
Its like if the Rescue Heroes stop doing their actual job and saving people to do a special training all the time
Or if GI Joe decided to host a field day and just let Cobra do NFT scams or whatever petty scheme they've cooked up for this week's episode.
@Calvin_Coolage exactly you could call deimos Commander Cobra of siege
And the same with the Decepticons
@@beatit2464 And then Cobra Commander and Destro would occasionally train with the Joes because they agreed
You fail me yet again Starscream
Yo, rescue heroes was my shit.
Gregor in a video talked about how he thinks Ubisoft wanted to distance themselves from the military aesthetic because of far right groups associating themselves with it. Then he really liked Solis’ design hinting Rainbow going back to their tacticool military sci fi vibe.
Deimos seems a little silly being the anime villain of R6 but I love his gadget being based off the hornet drone NATO forces actually use!
Thankfully the only exposure to the lore i ever get is occasionally when i start up the game there'll be the audio of a cinematic playing but i am just looking at a the menu background texture until i press a button to skip it
The moment that made me drop from the lore were when the ducking writers decided to pick up a elite anti terrorism unit and make them fitgh themselves in a damn stadium, where literally ANYONE can go in and watch their tactics and strategies, like you know what I will end this comment here before I say a lot of bad words.
"where literally ANYONE can go in and watch their tactics and strategies"
The internet:
Harry: “Hey guys, I have an idea to show the whole world our own tactics!”
T*rrorists: “I see this as an absolute win!”
@PINESMALL_NOTREAL so glad Harry is dead 😊
bring back john clark
I believe canonically only siege staff or smth could watch the event, but it’s still very risky
@@absolute-golden Why tf would they need a stadium for their own staff then!?
I miss the old r6, when it took itself serious. Nowadays I'm fighting fuckin pickle rick
Yeah, I thought the games entire draw was that it was more grounded and serious than CoD or BF. Now it's just another shooter.
What sucks is that it sells. It all works still, so the machine continues to push on.
its still crazy how far sledge threw thermite with one shove lmao
Its the same thought process they probably had when they designed ghostrecon breakpoints story; who thought that sending ALLL ghosts, an elite unit of anonym soldiers with no identity who gets dropped when discovered, send to a small island?! ONE squad would be suffice, but not ALL of your extremely secret task force!
The story justified it with the fact that Peter Miles actually set them up to die
@@chriscormac231 Even dumber when one guy was able to do that, it doesnt fit left and right if the ghosts are as unique as they were made out to be
Plus the ghosts looked like they got their gear from Temu
Ubisoft has basically looked at the lore team and went: "yeah we'll just make new operators, you just do... whatever makes you happy..."
It's important to keep in mind that the first Rainbow Six novel was about trying to stop terrorists from releasing a lethal virus at the Olympics.
For some reason, the writers thought it'd be a good idea to have the world's most dangerous task force in public, showcasing military tactics all under one roof at their own Olympics. Terrorists could literally just study Rainbow's tactics, or even better just kill all of Team Rainbow in one place.
Insanely stupid writing, even for Ubisoft. And then, there's Nighthaven...
The idea of making a PMC such as Nighthaven having any level of technological competition or sometimes being technologically superior to Rainbow is simply INSANE. John Clark said how difficult it was to get stuff to Rainbow, and even their heartbeat sensors were donated by the government or something. But nope, let's just see these bum-ass mercenaries outplay Rainbow like they're nothing.
Not to mention with those Olympics, Ding even thanks to himself about how what they do isn't sport and would never be shown at the Olympics.
@@roningfroggy Ding and the other Rainbow members were literally undercover during the Olympics mission in Sydney. If I'm right, not even the Australian Police was to be informed that someone carrying a vial that cointained a lethal virus was around. Nobody even knew Rainbow were there. But nah, screw the novel, let's see Mira and Ash duke it out with a bunch of bums watching it from a stadium stand.
they could've just explained the whole gameplay part by it being training
It’s a shame that modern Tom Clancy games can’t live up to the 2000s ones. At least when it comes to the writing.
I think that Deimos killing Harry is representative of the devs attempting to go back to a more grounded story without the stadium and games bs. Ever since Harry was killed off, they’ve had a more direct story of Keres versus Rainbow, but I can’t be bothered to learn about it past the surface level because there’s no gameplay content to experience the story in.
Yeah, imagine if they made proper Rainbow Six game instead of shit like Extraction.
The "Harry" arc was the worst period of this dogshit franchise. "We should hire a psychologist to run an international anti-terrorism organization" what?
@@hermitgreenn Because the thing you need the most during an operation is love and team bound, not tactics or actual skills haha
That cinematic gave me a ray of hope, and then next season came out packed with more cringe. Yeah, fool me twice ubi
Story is still gonna be shi. Same devs.
Tbh the graphics for siege kind of went down over the year aswell as the story. Tactical shooter goes downward into anime drama levels of writing
Not the graphics, it was the lighting which i do wish they brought back
the lighting was so damn good before, ALSO NIGHT MAPS RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Which is funny that an anime game collab arknight treat R6 character better in that game than Ubisoft ever did. Probably help that Arknight developer is a huge fan of the game
@@robertspeedwagon982 Night maps werent great since you could easily see the attackers in windows and some skins made it hard af to see attackers too

That moment when the non-canon zombie event and Gatcha game crossover had better writing than the main product.
since when do we use the word "lore" interchangeably with "narrative?"
Ever since the "narrative" has become barely existent
For a lot of video games they are synonymous tho. Games without clear stories or campaigns don't exactly have much of a difference for the two words since its narrative isn't exactly the easiest thing to find.
Like yes siege has a narrative, but no one normal is going to have access to what said narrative is without jumping down the entire rabbit hole fr
When people talk about narrative they usually mean story happening in gameplay, and lore is outside of gameplay. Both are related terms, but yeah, the narrative is trampling all over established lore.
@@lagg1e I mean we're also getting into the very real conundrum where lore (all the background and world building details), and the narrative (the actual structured story) are going to be only found if you're really curious. So in this case you're kind either completely in the rabbit hole, or completely out of it
Team Rainbow in Arknights has a more serious story with a more realistic tone. And that story starts with Ash, Tachanka, Blitz, and Frost getting Isakei'd into a world where they have to fight magic mutants along side a talking lizard man and cat girls
He was a good Doctor.....
It's kind of funny that it also still does world building for Arknights, namely what happens when someone dies of funny rock cancer (Oripathy). Also how Team Rainbow's firearms work compared to how they work in Arknights, and the potential shitstorm that could cause.
I only know of Arknights thanks to some fanart...is this legit the story?
@@DakotaofRaptors yeah, in broad strokes that is their story in Arknights. And in like 6 months that story is getting a repeat and we're getting a second story where Doc, Ela, Iana, and Fuze are trying to find the lost four; also get Isakei'd to the same world; and get caught up in civil unrest in Not Cuba and have to fight terrorist dog boys
@@DakotaofRaptors yep it is. And it's better than what Siege lore is nowadays.
so the devs made “Deimos” as the evil personification of the OG players who wanted rainbow to go back to its original form yet they have the guts to make him bad and then turning him into a just a regular airsoft operator.

to call seige an insult to tom clancy is an understatement
When they first introduced the stadium tournament stuff I didn’t know it was actually part of the lore tbh. I thought it was just a cool event and that the cinematics were just for promotion and wasn’t actually happening in the story.
Arknights made a better story regarding (some of) the operators than Ubisoft themselves. They even care more about the IP of them being a counter-terrorism unit
I would bet my money that Blue Archive has more self respect than Siege
It's a shame they gutted Rainbow Six: Patriots to make this game.
They could've just had an evil global organization that would only show itself and become vulnerable if Rainbow provoked them publicly, yanno, making the super smart but narcissistic top guy angry enough to get sloppy. That could've been an excuse for an arena. But instead of a regular sports arena, it would be themed exclusively to make fun of the organization by name or any info they have.
They could've had Rainbow "disguise" themselves, wearing flashy outfits as their aliases in public. It would've helped if there were a lot of comments by the characters about the whole thing being stupid, there being no going back, it being against everything they stand for etc. Then learning to roll with it and just enjoy the nonsense of it. Imagine how cool it would feel, seeing them finally go back to plain black outfits as soon as they got something they could use to start actually bringing down the evil organization. Saying stuff like "back to the deadly bullets, yet it feels like going home after a war". :D
I still remember when I thought the 6 invitational was just the last match of the real life Tournament with details from the lore (I didn't watched it). I found it really hard how this can be Canon (look where we are now).
You can tell by character design when the story shift happened as well. You cannot tell me that those that designed and wrote ops like Glaz and Kapkan are the same people that designed Sens, Junkrat and Roadho…sorry, Mozzie and Gridlock, Osa, Azami, Fenrir, Kali, Amaru, Iana, etc…
At least they're getting back on track. Solis, Deimos to some degree I guess.
Oh God, Osa and Sens are the worst. Literally characters made to pander to a specific agenda. They would never get military training anywhere in the world, and even if they did, it certainly wouldn't be enough to land them a spot in the world's "best counter terrorist unit".
@@choppergunner8650 bro gridlock weight like 2 tons, and is inside the best antiterrorist unit of the world, like wtf
@@Dervitox yeah. Rapelling would be literally impossible (her body weight + all the equipment she carries would break her fucking back). And Aruni is literally handicapped (Capitão is handicapped too, but I guess losing an eye is definitely better than losing half a body), yet R6, which started out as a somewhat realistic game, wants us to believe that this woman can punch through wooden planks, can run at top speed and fire guns, all with prosthetics? Fuck off.
Most Siege characters are a joke nowadays. It's literally characters made to fit agendas, and not characters to fit whatever's left of realism in Siege. Gridlock's supposed to combat "fat shaming", Kali's bio is literally about "the woman, oppressed by nasty men in her society, built her own mercenary army", Thunderbird is supposed to represent Native Americans, Flores is supposed to represent gays, Osa is trans, Sens is non-binary/toaster/whatever the fuck... like, when you watch roadmap reveals, you see that operator's country flag and you'd start to imagine how the operator would be. I always imagined that the Croatian operator would be some huge dude, with 200 pounds of muscles, probably a veteran of the Yugoslav Wars, scarred by the experience, probably lost his family to terrorists, joined the anti-terrorist squad to prevent more innocent lives from being taken, and not "they/them grew up in a place full of toys and had identity crisis when a teenager". The absolute disrespect to what the fanbase used to be, combined with excessive uses of unnecessary rebalancing of operators, weapons, "give an ACOG to this weapon, take it away from that weapon", "give him C4 instead of barbed wire, give her frags instead of flashbangs", taking maps in and out of the map rotation, and always remaking them to the worst possible designs that would make an architect kill himself, always pandering to Pro League as if the average player is as skilled as they are... that's what made me stop playing Siege altogether and said "fuck it". Never playing this piece of fucking trash ever in my life.

What's almost worse than bad lore is amazing lore that is hidden in convoluted ways or behind challenges that require sweaty levels of dedication to find.
Not necessarily 'phenomenal' but a good example is call off duty zombies. I love the idea of the hunt and the Easter eggs and that hunt should give you something awesome if you put in the effort to find and complete it but I'm pretty sure most of the fan base only knows the entire story from expansive 4 hour UA-cam videos, vaguely know the story from short bullet point videos, or know some of the story and then some made up stuff from chatting in lobbies/games.
That said, it was fun as a kid playing World at War and sifting through all the made up stuff to try and decipher the actual story. I miss those days of gaming. When the kid at school told you they played as a hidden character in Mortal Kombat and you had no idea if they were lying or telling the truth and you wouldn't find out until years later. Yeah, turns out they were full of shit.
Nah cod zombies lore is peak, mostly because half of it is just the result of multiple lead developers all using LSD over the course of 10 years.

I grew up with R6 Vegas and Vegas 2. The switch from a grounded story of an anti-terror group stopping terrors to E-sports was like going from GTA 4 to Saints Row 3.
At least Saints Row 3 isn’t anywhere close to sieges level of cringe tho
5:50 is that true tho? The R6 cinematic shows that this attack is the first one that the White Mask did, the reason why R6 was reactivated to handle that exact reason. Basically where it all started, lore wise
Ever since Fortnite and battlepasses became popular, the story which is true for other games as well is where games pursued the live service model which was when cosmetics and quirky characters were emphasized over realism and integrity.
Yeah all these live service games have the worst lore in gaming and I am so fed up with it. People need to call this out more. The lore DOES matter and gamers deserve better. I want the next generation of gamers to have storys as good as halo to play. Not this fortnite slop. Cause thats what it is, its slop and lazy.
Oh I don't even give the story any thought. There IS no story. It's literally just whatever improvised bullshit they can think of every couple months that doesn't completely derail the improvised bullshit they've come up with so far. I've never seen "Assassins Creed 2" level-lore from a live-service game.
Story in modern halo is ass aswell.
They could’ve just had the White Masks funded by a rogue state of Whateverstan lead by a charismatic dictator and have them be the main villains for awhile.
Or have Aurelia funding them to have both the White Masks and Rainbow at her beck and call.
Or they can stayed with monsters but more scawy

I love your voice and this video is really entertaining. Great job!
Just to talk on my thought for a reboot/recon for the lore would be:
-keep the idea of the paintball traing place but make it more of a seculed training facility so operators can practice situations.
-add in an internal strife that can split the team due to the amount of peace they've aquired
-and maybe add in another group that had infiltrated rainbow political head to try and bring down rainbow.
(Idk what epse to write so maybe add in your own ideas)
Imagine if instead of a stadium it was all based around intense training in a covert kill house training ground somewhere. Surely someone thought of that instead to be more grounded and achieve the same thing

This is why you have to do something to make PVP be actually about fighting bad guys, not just "practice". Ghost in the Shell First Assault (RIP) launched with a feature where the enemy team showed up as having different models to your own team. Ubisoft's own Ghost Recon Phantoms (also RIP) did somewhat the same thing with the enemy being ex-Ghosts having red lights instead of the Ghosts' blue to explain why they had the same gear. There are ways to write it such that the multiplayer can be canonical operations against real enemy forces.
